@Crimsonorblue22 Emmert just continues to make a fool of himself....has to be the dumbest person in a ceo position over a billion dollar product and can’t even call the champions name correctly

Tarheels Game Thread • Apr 05, 2022 03:38 AM

Alpha guard won us 3 games....creighton, providence and tonight

Rock chalk remy

Tarheels Game Thread • Apr 05, 2022 03:03 AM

@DCHawker at this rate let ochai shoot until he misses

@RockChalkinTexas bacot clearly hurt...don’t care no asterisks for titles

Tarheels Game Thread • Apr 05, 2022 01:02 AM

@wissox he bailed on the layup too when he blew by his man on the break

He’s okay will be tough and rebound...his defense on Davis is fantastic so far

The Also Ran Game • Apr 03, 2022 02:39 AM

@Kcmatt7 unc by far

Hobbled bacot vs Dave yes please

Wilson vs manek - gotta run him off the line Manek hits with a hand in his face

Och vs love 1 nba matchup

Black vs Braun - who is better may determine this

Harris - Davis - can Harris lockdown rj who’s been awesome all tourney

Let’s do this it’s our year!!!

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 02:26 AM

@tulsajhwk I’ve praised ochai for his work
Dave for 1 foot
Harris for doing what I didn’t think was possible

Not sure what crap? Duke is full of nba players and we have Och. Saying that isn’t some earth shattering negative news.

Monday I’m psyched but tonight’s game I wanted because we are the better team. Monday we won’t be but it’s 1 game not 7 we GOT A CHANCE MIGHT AS WELL WIN IT ALL!

@Jethro Wilson needs to get him into foul trouble early otherwise he’s gonna hurt us Monday...the goofy white guy who can’t miss in the title game crap

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 01:36 AM

@tulsajhwk we haven’t lost its 1 game anything can happen. We gotta play our A game and need them to play their C game.

They shot horrible from deep still scored 37 this half. Size and physicality between both games is evident.

We were on fire from deep to score 40 and go in stretches of poor offense. We absolutely can’t do that against Duke

The longer Unc hangs in this the tighter Duke will be

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 01:22 AM

@tulsajhwk trob for his Mom year
Danny’s last year I thought it was destiny

3-5 more minutes I don’t know Uk always had an answer much like we did for nova tonight. They cut it close but our better players made more plays.

Duke tomorrow a whole different animal. Dave will go from tallest to 3-4 tallest on the floor real quick.

Wilson better be ready to flop every time banchero touches it and hopefully the ncaa refs we had tonight are no where near New Orleans

Matt Scott Appears To Be Done At 247 • Apr 03, 2022 01:20 AM

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 01:17 AM

@mayjay yes, said some earth shattering troll stuff as you can see

Dave against size - let’s see how he does hope he dunks on the entire fraud Duke team

Remy carrying us to avoid round of 32 choke

Harris playing like an all American tonight (the same Harris I said COULD never lead us to a title which still stands because remy has and played more minutes the entire tournament)

Us playing 5 on 8 tomorrow against Duke or heck Unc....refs love the east coast and ncaa will be hell bent if we win a title.....screw them all ncaa is a joke and butchered the tv contract..Emmerts a clown

As u can see major troll right here

Heck even posted I ate crow......

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 01:12 AM

@tulsajhwk anything can happen in 1 game

It’s gonna be 5 on 8 that’s the hill to climb plus they have better athletes and nba talent....it’s 2012 KU - UK again

This team has more weapons though offensively

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 01:05 AM

I trolled by saying Dave was bad - he was
Bill favored Harris - he admitted he does

That Harris can’t lead us to a title - he can’t without remy we aren’t in the final 4 game we’d lost to creighton in round of 32....

Harris did lead us not as the lead guard but stud defense and he hit three’s he had cojones that we’re huge and played like we’d never seen offensively besides the MU game

His on ball d with 6-6 reach he’s so quick with his hands that even now when he gets bodied he’s learned

Guys have flat out improved but not sure that calling the team who was good but had major holes is trolling

This team Self has said isn’t as good so his expectations weren’t high. He wasn’t tight like normal and look the guys played better

It all flows together and makes sense but just because I don’t have red and blue glasses 24/7 and see more negative than positive doesn’t mean I’m a troll

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 01:01 AM

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:33 AM

@bskeet this run is 100% changing it
Bracket lined up we avoided teams with major size and here we are

We play health creighton with size who knows
Even healthy nova

Duke or Unc will be biggest team we’ve played in 6 games

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:32 AM

@Kcmatt7 you mop and win a title and carry us yes - I don’t care how bad you were 3/4 of the season

He’s on one effin foot

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:32 AM

Dave against Williams or Bacot tomorrow...can he have a repeat performance?

Puke • Apr 03, 2022 12:25 AM

7-1 Williams will give Dave problems - he’s the size Dave can’t score over and Dave was a BEAST TONIGHT

Jalen meet your nba version Paulo - good luck hope you D him up like Svi on Bagley

Where we win:
Och goes off like tonight

Braun the same can’t wait until second half but he was huge let em hang

Remy stay hot from deep

Hope they miss

Last but not least Harris just shut down roach. Harris played like an all American tonight can’t believe I’m typing that.

That story was a tear jerker and yes, he isn’t a score first but I see what Self sees

Rock chalk they are 1 game away win or lose what a season for a team I loathed and has now stood up in every way .....they AINT SOFT!

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 11:14 PM

Bill what are u doing.....Colin ain’t taking a break gonna let them back in 5-0 run again after we’d answered their run. Stupid

I’m eating crow • Mar 31, 2022 02:49 PM

Had us losing to Creighton

Bill’s played remy more than his pet

His pet has played outstanding defense

Wilson is at his best

Ochai, Braun and Remy have to carry us

Bill needs to quit forcing it to Dave on crucial possessions

How do we beat nova?
Wright will slow us down defensively stopping our stuff like he does when he has time to prepare. They will show us something new defensively.
We don’t guard the three we guard inside out just like we play. Teams always shoot the 3 well against us Nova will be no different we can easily lose this game.

If we get past Nova it’s Duke and we lose by 8-10 as it will be like 2012 KU where we were just overmatched by UK nothing we can do the boys overachieved and had a fantastic season - proud as we can be.
We will start the game throwing it into Dave who is awful against height and 7-1 Williams will completely shut him down.

How we win?
Wilson makes Banchero go 2/13 and pulls a Svi on Bagley type game
Ochai, Braun and Remy average 18-20 a piece and we shoot lights out

Duke is playing their best and has a top 3 draft pick who’s Jalen on steroids and a footer we wish we had. We gotta play perfect to win and flat out hope they miss shots

Big 12 regular season AND post season

What changed
1) the real pg played - compare stat lines tonight it’s not even close (pts, rebounds, assists, to’s)
2) Wilson is being assertive need Braun to as well
3) Bill actually leaning away from his tendencies why it took all year no clue

Self still doesn’t like remy he’s acting so immature worse than the college kid. Remy’s been encouraging, always positive and when he finally plays well he tries to hug self and self blows him off. Remy scores self never claps, fist pumps nothing been like that all year but the little hug thing showed who was the $i&$ there

We are getting beat and they are shooting 20% from three

Tcu just grown man’d us just like usc...we will go 5 losses in a row in the ncaa tourney by double digits at this rate.

2020 obviously screwed us

When Bill brings back McCormick and starts him and Juan next year might as well not watch because Och will be gone and this team minus Och is scary to think about

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 09, 2022 04:24 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

I said take last 3 games Harris was good in two. My point was to say what does Joe have to do to get more minutes? When he and Harris were on the floor we took care of the ball plus those other players you mentioned magically quit turning it over. Can you put two and two together? Harris isn’t an attacking play making guard he passes it to the post and around the perimeter. When the shot clock gets down to 15 he doesn’t create for anyone and then puts those guys in must make play situations and yes, they turn it over. People act like he’s aaron miles which completely disrespects miles. He’s a poor mans tharpe who was the worst pg under self and we are in for the same tourney fate. No goalposts moving goal was to point out he should have played more.

I hate per 40’s they are an awful analysis for guys playing spot minutes. You noticed I didn’t bother to use that and say well if Joe plays 30 minutes not 15 he turns it over 1 more time but scores 8 more points. Pers showed Clemence is the best and we know that’s not true. Pers only works when comparing guys playing legit minutes.

Comparing a 2021 drake team and results based on one player and that role to the 2022 Kansas team and that players role here was somehow worse than your pers comment.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 09, 2022 02:09 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 what’d he shoot last night and what about Joe?

I already outlined we turned it over 3 times in Joe’s minutes and had the best control of the game with him in.

I’m advocating for him on that night to play more. If that’s for Harris fine, for Braun fine.

Harris out of the main 6 players had the worst +/- but I’m not surprised.

Win as a team lose as a team but the ceiling is no better than sweet 16 with the minute distribution right now.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 09, 2022 02:07 AM

@jayballer67 my Dad was drafted by the Red’s too he was a lefty pitcher.

I had to text him to make sure he wasn’t on some KU message board arguing with me lol. He’s probably much older than you and not good with technology anyways.

Your point I don’t agree and here’s why.
If you are battling for a position with another guy and playing time and that guy makes the bonehead play you made but stays in the game.....how’s that sit with you?

When you have the better arm, better 12-6 curve but you only get a few opportunities and if one night you get schlacked well good luck. But if the other pitcher does he still stays in the rotation.

The leash and who gets said leash by trust is the issue. Yes, coaches do play favorites they are 100% human. Bosses play favorites, parents, ect everyone does.

Coach talks differently about Harris than he does remy or Joe.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 10:18 PM

@jayballer67 feel free to do that for the last 3 games it includes some good ones from Harris.

If you don’t think the 1 mistake and your out or if you take what William deems is a bad shot and you’re back to the bench in the noncon doesn’t effect a player’s psyche it will prove you’ve never played a sport at a competitive level where the coach either instilled or didn’t instill confidence into you

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 09:41 PM

@benshawks08 they said shut down och and Braun. Braun had some big moments and runs his mouth like always instead of finishing.

He’s normally great at rebounding but that goose egg is bad. Also he was atrocious defensively on Allen who had a career night. He and Wilson couldn’t stop them at the elbow it was brutal to see no in game adjustments by William on that action.

We won’t agree; if you switch Joe and Harris this team is definitely improved. Confident Joe and long leash Joe is everything we need in a lead guard. William needs to check his ego and worry about winning a title. It’s been 10 years since a final four W.

Funny we started to ā€œhit our strideā€ as other posters have said yet that ā€œcan’t quite figure outā€ what changed these last 3 games.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 09:17 PM

@benshawks08 as proven in my post we turned it over less with Joe on the floor.

The narratives that Harris is a great defender (he’s not teams go right at him) and he handles the ball well (he doesn’t he has the weakest handles of all guards if you watch him dribble and handle pressure it’s awkward and he’s not strong) don’t hold up when looking at the toughest games.

Sure he is good against bad little 10 teams and non con.....against tier 1 d1 athletes he’s exposed.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 09:13 PM

@benshawks08

Did you or any other homers on this board watch the game without thinking Harris as the second coming of Frank???

It’s when JOE AND Harris share the floor was my point but we can analyze it all below.

Harris is a SOLID and i means SOLID backup pg (this isn’t sarcasm I am being 100% serious here). He plays starter minutes that’s the issue. Not his but the man who controls minutes.

https://kuathletics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/1990141.pdf ↗

We turned it over 15 times in the game to their 6 and Texas wasn’t playing any pressure defense. Same issue has been mentioned with our rebounding problems..... Braun looking at you with 0.

Dave an absolute beast on 1 leg. He isn’t a legit KU big but he earned respect busting his tail while injured in the most physical game of the year.

Back to the web link:
Joe in at 14:59 for the first time and ran offense fine with no turnovers until Harris back in at 13:40

Harris and Joe played until 9:45 with no turnovers bedsides 1 on Joe

Joe in at 6:07
Braun turnover 4:53
Och turnover 2:49
Joe our 2:25

Harris turnover 2:06 and we know how the next 2 minutes before half played out

Joe in 12:21
6:49 Joe out no turnovers the entire almost 6 minutes the time we built the lead the most and looked the best both offensively and defensively

Three turnovers while Joe played one being his own. 12 when he was out.

Switch minutes and I guarantee we’d win the game. Does it mean other guys couldn’t have performed better sure but 38 minutes to the guy who coach has said should play 25 shows coach is full of crap on his speech to the media.

Defensively because Joe can stop ball and puts pressure on guys. Offensively because even with 4 on 5 he attacks.

@kuballin10 said in Tejas Game Thread:

Can someone explain the end of game through Self’s eyes?

Dave is on one leg, been great but the physicality and whistle swallowing on our end was evident.

Self thinks get a shot closest to the basket and that’s Dave even though he’d gotten clobbered missed and we’d all been mad why it wasn’t pick and roll with Ochai bringing it up and Braun popping.

Other option: elevator screen action
All eyes were on Och all game I’d run the play for him let Wilson fake the screen and roll to the rim....layup.

Texas would be focusing on Ochai the defender following him all over than having to stop, pass him off and go oh crap I need to switch in which he’d freeze for a second. Works every time

In the biggest minutes guys are over aggressive on D....backdoor plays and little slips will win 90% of the time.

William calls these during the game but where coaches make their impact is those late game situations when your players can’t manufacture a play on their own.

Prioritizing though the closest to the basket yet guarded Dave shot versus top 10-20 pick having the ball in his hands is 100% why we’d deserve to lose.

  1. I agree there probably had to be something better to end the game but having Och bring the ball up is NOT it. He's shown over and over again that is not his game.

  2. If the elevator screen decoy idea worked every time why would any team run anything else ever?

  3. The initial play call to get the ball in och's hands worked perfectly and a tad more loft on och's pass and dave is dunking.

  4. I got really confused reading you call self William because I thought you were referring to Williams (the former coach) and could not figure out what point you were trying to make there!

  5. In one thread you are criticizing Self's play calling to end the game because "where coaches make their impact is those late game situations" while in another you say, "Plays dont score the players do Guards win in March." Curious...

I'm actually glad we lost another close one coming down the stretch because it can refocus the team on the importance of execution. We'd had a nice little stretch of playing well to end the game and some of that can come down to luck if everyone is honest. The luck of that bank 3.
The luck of that Harris pass being tipped in. A rebound bouncing over a guy who had the better position. Missed calls this way, a charge/block that way. Etc.

I'm also glad we lost this one rather than the baylor game on saturday (though winning them both would obviously be ideal).

1) och scored 3 times driving hard right beating his guy off the dribble and the help coming

2) och isn’t a good lob thrower but William knew he is the only guy who could beat his man off the dribble

3) William must draw up a winning play when his players can’t make one. Players must execute said play. That’s what William banks on. It’s why mid major Harris plays over Joe because he’d claim he doesn’t know the entire offense.

4) the oh $h$t tight end blocks then leaks out backside works every time at the goal line. Same for any double screen and have one guy fake and roll. Cant run it every time but you save it for certain situations. When it’s ran it works but if you run it every play down then no off course it’s not gonna work. You hardly ever run it or run it once/twice a game element of surprise wins.

5) Goal is a title, little 10 is a nice stepping stone but this team will lose the way it did last night against a good athletic team in sweet 16. We constantly turned it over except when Joe was in the game. Because our pg doesn’t attack (what I praised him for at isu) and it puts the ball in playmakers hands in poor positions. Combine that with the other team literally not guarding you and then draw up the playbook so they run ball screen action, post ups and drives right at you....yeah it’s a problem.

What’s truly frustrating and my entire gripe on this is William is going to start him from now until he graduates which is insane. It’s a long term stunting of this teams growth. He’s worse than Tharpe, Tharpe’s last year here statistically. And due to stubbornness and being ā€œlikedā€ (I mean our coach literally has a teachers pet it’s comical) he will always start.

@jayballer67 can’t ignore Texas shooting 3-20 from deep. They can easily say from their viewpoint had we made just our average of 32-33% we win going away and beat a team who shot 58% on us but the goal of slowing down 30 and 2 worked and forcing role players to try to carry the load to beat us

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 05:02 AM

From yours truly the phog - We don’t have a PG and we constantly turn it over yet you don’t want to admit the number of turnovers are because players have to create their own shots since our PG can’t distribute or create. In Self’s tenure he’s only better than Tharpe. That’s bad

Let me know Joe’s strengths again. Volume shooter oh you don’t think Self can’t reign that in? Check Remy’s numbers asu vs KU and get back to me.....

Joe can do everything Harris can do but better and it ain’t even mother effin close

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 04:52 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 that’s worthless he didn’t even play

Pull from ISU forward and feel free to share the screenshots

Also you are a coach and watch it’s not difficult to see.

Selfs one mistake and you’re out to bench players only hurts their play. He doesn’t let them early on learn through mistakes in game which is the best way to learn light years better than practice. Of course Juan looked better he’s smart had 1 year in the system knew what to expect for Joe it was all new. Coaches job is to get the most out of your talent not cripple it.

In 15 minutes Joe equaled his scoring, kept the proper spacing because they actually guarded him and we both know wouldn’t have been beaten off the dribble 8 times like Harris was tonight.
