This is true. Every year that we don't win it we come up short of MY expectations.
BUT - when we lose in the round of 32, or even the Sweet Sixteen, when we're supposed to be (somebody check the numbers) the 2nd winningest team of all time. We can't even lose to good teams in those games - we're the game that puts a lot of programs on the map. Every frickin game, someone has a career night against us. A guy that averages 3 will score 28. A guy that has NEVER hit a 3 pointer will hit 6. We're not KANSAS any more.

I have a *&^%&))&^-ing chip on MY shoulder. I am TIRED of being embarrassed every March. OH YES IT IS embarrassing losing to teams that are seeded 10 notches below us. And it is embarrassing to lose to Wichita State. Wichita Effing State. Really?
Evidently, I'm a snob. An elitist snob. I fully expect KU to win 35+ games. Every year. I expect to go to the Final Four. Every year. I expect our teams to hustle - give us their blood, sweat and tears. Every year.
I'm sick of being apathetic. I'm sick of not giving a crap any more after we get humiliated. My wife is glad. A lot less stuff is broken around the house. I'm not glad - I want to be PISSED when we lose.
I don't want to EVER have another season where some richard-noggin comes up to me and says " How 'BOUT them Shockers? ".
I want to go to our locker room and tell them how unimpressed I am with our OAD's and McD's (for the most part). I want to teach them how to play like their lives depended on it for two hours. I want to give them a class on KU History. The Wilt's, the Lovellette's, the Manning's - hell, I could type for an hour about the great - GREAT - players that have been here. And not only been here, but been invested in the heart of the program. Been invested in the town of Lawrence and the state of Kansas. I LOVE those guys who are pissed after a loss. Who cry after a loss. Who feel like they've let their teammates, fans, family and friends down after a loss.
Those kinds of guys are the reason that we are the second winningest program in college basketball history.
I want them back.

Our team showed very little heart and hustle. Was it the OU game that we hustled, fought, scrapped, left it all out on the court and lost by one or two points? I think almost everyone here was very pleased with that game. The team fought hard, gave it everything they had and lost. Simple.
Most of the other games this season we either lost gigantic leads or just played with our heads in the clouds and really didn't play hard at all. That's what I can't tolerate.
What I want to know is this:
Was Zenger in Self's office yesterday with his finger in his face, or was it just business as usual?
Is everyone (besides us posters) ok with KU being mediocre? I mean a LOT of programs would be happy with 9 or 10 losses, a Conference Title (or 11) and a trip to the NCAA's. I'm not.
If I'm Self's boss, I'm giving him a lot of hints, tips and ideas to win at least 4 games when he gets to the tournament or maybe he ought to re-think the way he does things. Or where he does them.
Earlier in the season, I would have prefaced this post with a "this is not a Self bashing". Now, you can take it however you like.

I'm venting about the RPI, the strength of schedule. From now on, let's schedule the Oklahoma City School of Horseshoeing and the Andale School For the Blind (among others). Let's be #302 on the RPI. Roll over a bunch of teams by 50 points (just so we remember how to) and get some confidence.
I'm venting about the Big 12 Conference Championship. Lose it. Intentionally if you have to. Is there anything more embarrassing than winning the Sacred Big 12 title and then losing the second game of the NCAA tourney? Screw it. There are 6 UCLA fans that give a crap if their 13 titles in a row stand. Everybody else in the world could not care less.
I'm venting about the type of players we've been recruiting lately (not ALL of them, but way too many) who don't give a crap about KU. Who know nothing of our history. Who are not putting forth maximum effort all the time.
I'm venting about a team that when the season is over, makes me not even care. I'd like to go back to crying, yelling, screaming, throwing stuff. Now, I don't care any more than the players or coaches do.

I have no answers for this team. The talent is there. No consistency I guess. No "chemistry". Teamwork is lacking - nobody seemed to be on the same page.
I'm with @joeloveshawks - in the past, I've lost my mind after a loss like yesterday. Now, I am about as apathetic as I could possibly be. I was much more upset about forgetting to DVR "The Last Man on Earth" last night.....

I loved Haase as a player, I think I may love him more as a coach. And ( in my book, this is a positive ) he looks, acts and sounds a lot like Ol Roy.

That would be awsome! Unfortunately, it's something they've done very little of this year. Hence the continual stream of big leads blown for losses or hanging on for close wins.
But, now would be as good a time as any to turn things around.

I believe that 3 point shots are not fool's gold - most of the time they are about 35% real gold.

I'm more disgusted with this team than any KU team that I've ever seen. Including football.

@Crimsonorblue22 I don't know - I think the city of Austin recruits about as well as a lot of coaches. It's a beautiful place, beautiful campus, great food, great music, great weather. I can see why great players would want to go there.

Are the fans and faculty at the most sacred Temple of Longhornville finally fed up with the mediocrity of the Rick Barnes era?
In 17 years he has recruited some really outstanding basketball players, yet his teams have consistenly under-performed. He's got ONE Final Four appearance (2002/2003), ONE Conference Championship (tie Kansas 2007/2008 ). His teams are 20 W - 20L in the NCAA tournament and his conference games winning percentage is .580.
I say to the Texas A.D. - FIRE HIM NOW.
Let him come work for us as a recruiter.

I was wrong to think that this year's team should have won every game by 30+ points.
I was (am) wrong to dog the players - I'm sure they don't want to have all the turnovers and missed 3 pointers any more than I want them to.
I am RIGHT to say that Frank Mason is a MAN. I have so much respect for that dude. Fights and scraps on every play. Never loses his cool.

Actually, I respect all these players except maybe one whom I won't mention by name. As for some who, in our sight have underperformed - who knows? Maybe some of them were waaaaaaaaaaay over-hyped coming into this season.
I guess I don't care if we win ugly. I just hope we keep plugging away and getting W's.
