@dylans I'm with @drgnslayr - the QH demoralizes and makes most players timid. Call a time out if you HAVE to, chew some butt, point out what went wrong and how to correct it and then let them get back in there and play.
@bskeet I wonder how much the E.P. would have been worth had it been signed by James Naismith? :wink:
I'm probably the only one who didn't already know this, but I read today that on the same day that the Booth family purchased the original rules of basketball for $4,338,500.00, a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation (1 of 48 ) that was signed by Abraham Lincoln and owned by Robert F. Kennedy sold for $3,778,500.00.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.....
@Crimsonorblue22 Lol - you threw me under the bus, but I laid REAL flat and it went right over me!
The only comment I'll make is this - if Self left KU for Okie St, then he's WAY too dumb to be KU's coach.

Without a SECOND thought.
I wonder if anyone will SECOND my emotion?
We'll know in a SECOND.

We live in the age of Self recruiting OADs.
I was just reading a book this morning that described Ol Roy's frustration with the whole recruiting process. I didn't realize (because I am very naive) that even back then many players were looking at college ball as a one or two year stepping stone path to the pros.
Then came Raef LaFrentz. That changed it all for Roy. and Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison. Three sons of coaches. From the midwest. Four year players who re-wrote the record books at KU. And won a whole lot of games for us.
Any one (or all three) of those will be greater Jayhawks in my mind than any OAD we will ever have.
In my humble, but accurate, opinion, Self needs to recruit players with at least as much heart as athletic ability and recruit players who will actually PLAY rather than seemingly hold back so they don't injure themselves and obstruct their pro career.
OK - I'll go back to sleep now.
@joeloveshawks I figured that would be the general consensus, but at least I'm honest. I'm tired of us playing boring ball, scoring in the 60's and 70's and getting 9 or 10 losses per season. My saying it doesn't change anything, it just makes me someone who speaks the truth (as I see it) and wears my heart on my sleeve. :heart:
@Crimsonorblue22 lol - i didn't say i was calling for his head, just that IF he left - que sera sera.
@stupidmichael - nothing stupid about this post.
Your question about Self bolting to the NBA made me think. I look at his statistics on paper and it seems insane. Rarely, in the history of college basketball have guys put up numbers like his. But the reality of it is, when he loses - a lot in March. At all the wrong times. Against all the wrong teams.
OK - I'll come out and say it. If Self left for the pros tomorrow, I'd be over it by Wednesday. Obviously, he's not a bad coach, but I just would prefer watching a different style of game. Maybe one that's fun to watch and not agonizing. One where after we win our bazillionth Conference Championship in a row, we can win the stupid Conference Tournament Championship (if we really have to continue playing the stupid thing) and then win a few games in March.
@BeddieKU23 said:
What can ya do?
Win some games in March.
That's why kids choose Duke/Kentucky - whomever over us. They want a legit chance to go to the Final Four and to play for the National Championship.
@drgnslayr I feel your frustration. You and I and some other old timers would love to see the OAD situation go away. It won't. So what do we do?
Be like Cal and get 9 or 10 McD's every year? If that's the answer - how do we accomplish that?
And I'm not even sure I want to "accomplish" that. For me, part of the fun - a BIG part of following KU is watching the players grow and get better, get smarter every year. Write their names in the record books. Or get their first start on Senior Day. It won't be long before Senior Day is a thing of the past. How sad is that?
I'm still pissed at Paul Pierce for leaving after his junior year! He's one of the few that probably should have, but I still hated it. The way I see it, KU spends big money and a lot of time recruiting these guys. Gives them a top-notch education, teaches them how to play basketball, takes them all over the country (world), makes them household names and how do many of them repay KU? Jump to the NBA. They're not ready.
@cragarhawk Well, it seems as if Notre Dame had a pretty good shot.
@KUinLA In a league a lot less talented and competitive than the Big 12. Gotta be said.
@MoonwalkMafia All I saw of the Arizona game was the very end. I mean last 30 seconds. What struck me was how......heartbroken they all were. Honestly, I didn't stick around for the end of all of our games. Do our guys react that way? Don't get me wrong - I wish they did. I wish their hearts were crushed after a loss, especially a season ending loss. I don't mean that in a mean way - I just want them to be so invested in our program that they just can't stand to lose.
@HighEliteMajor I wonder, if someone took a vote among the fans, who would be in favor of the OAD system? Probably the only ones that would vote for it would be the parents, friends and benefactors of those about to be multi-millionaires.
I'm with you. I hate it. No one will ever convince me that the only reason that WSU beat us is because ( don't beat me up, I didn't look it up ) they started 3 seniors and 2 juniors. ?? Something like that - very experienced.
I've been saying it for years now - MUCH of the time, experience will beat raw talent in this college game.
@REHawk The dermatologist smokes? :smoking:
lol
Funny though, in our teens and early 20's, myself and a couple of my (future) sister in laws used to place bets on who could get the better tan. We'd slather up in baby oil, crisco - I don't remember what all God-awful concoctions we put our bodies through.
By the way - I ALWAYS won.
Now I have my own little kindly, bright-eyed dermatologist making good money off of me (literally).
She doesn't smoke though.
@JayhawkRock78 I've said it before, but hire the dude at KU. He can flat out recruit. Pay him 3 mil per year - relatively little stress on him for that kind of money. I'll chip in. I get paid in a few days, I'll chip in $10 per month.....
@Crimsonorblue22 Well, if he says he's happy and content at WSU, that settles it. Once a coach says he loves a place, he's there for life.
How did Ol' Roy do last night ?????
@drgnslayr :eyes: :heart: :sheep: (close as I could find to a ewe) 2 - brah!!
@Crimsonorblue22 Every college graduates this May.
Oh - you mean Baker the dude.
I've given the whole training scheme a LOT of thought - at least two minutes.
I was a reasonably good athlete in my day. I was never injured, not once. I attribute it to getting very little sleep, drinking a lot - LOT ( I can't stress LOT enough) of beer, and smoking an occasional doobie.
The training atmosphere is key too. There always was Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith or Kiss (hey - they rocked!) blaring in the background.
I can't remember if there was any actual weight lifting or stretching or anything like that going on.........mostly we just played whatever sport it was depending on the time of year. Playing basketball seemed to get us in pretty good shape for playing basketball.
(note - all fiction - wait - no - it's the truth...)
@Kip_McSmithers Going to Texas would give him the opportunity to lose to KU every year...
@Crimsonorblue22 Baker must be OK. I heard he still has a poster of Kirk Hinrich on his bedroom door.
Or maybe that should worry me......
@Kip_McSmithers Kinda Rude.
But really funny. Lol.
@JayhawkRock78 I agree with you 100% on the whole accountability, cheating, general disintegration of the morals in our society and I agree a bazillion percent on the texting and driving thing. I am normally a pretty mellow fellow and don't get too worked up about anything (other than KU losses) - UNTIL I see some reprobate, communist weasel, lowlife scumbag, A-rod texting and driving. And I don't care who I offend on here. I don't want anyone taking my life, or my family and friend's lives for granted. Don't F-ing do it. Nothing you have to say is that important. It will wait. And if it can't - pull over, put on your flashers and then send your BFF the message that you will meet them at the 50 shades of grey movie later.
Crap - I can already FEEL my blood pressure going up. Sorry for the rant.

that wanted to play for KU.
I really think that is KEY. Think of all the kids over the years who were not highly recruited who turned out to be invaluable to our program because of their heart for KU. We've had major discussions on here - and other places :-1: - about the OAD's, but I think the kids that bleed crimson and blue and will be here 3 or 4 years are the ones that make us special.
" If you put the ball inside the little square above the rim, 99.9 percent of the time, it's going to go in "
Clyde Lovellette
WSU should fold up basketball all together after getting spanked by a team with uniforms that ugly. :-1:
Now that the season is over, I'm 100% convinced that all of our problems were between our players and coaches ears. We need a new attitude.
@oldhwkfan Yeah - I didn't think a WSU player would mouth off like that.
Only their coach.
@joeloveshawks I wish all the players who weren't NBA ready were still here......
Stupid NBA.
@ParisHawk The NCAA Tournament is not the only thing that counts. Neither is the Conference Championship.
Everybody (the rest of the basketball watching U.S.) remembers KU getting beat the first weekend. Nobody but the Big 12 followers remember the CC's.
I'd prefer to do well at both.
And, OK, I'm confused about the "We are already guaranteed of not losing on the first weekend every year of our streak, or did you forget?"
I don't understand. We lost the first weekend this year. Help me out please. Thanks!
@ParisHawk If that's true - he's an idiot.
Let's win 79 Conference titles in a row and be sent packing on the first weekend of the NCAA's every year?
Not seein it.
@drgnslayr Did you ever sleep? :sleeping:
@truehawk93 I hope you have a storm cellar or a basement. Anybody that lives in N. Central Texas, all of Oklahoma and most of Kansas needs them.
@VoyagingJayhawk My dad said that Bill Snyder should be President of the United States. Anybody that can turn around a crap program like that and make them relevant - should be running the country.
And my dad's a Longhorn fan.
@VoyagingJayhawk I'll put it on the list!
OK - I've had a few days to bitch, moan, whine and complain. I'll try not to any more - until next season. Unless WSU goes to the FF.
ANYWAY - Went to the library this afternoon and checked out four books:
1) At The Hang-Up - by Ted Owens
2) Tales From the Jayhawks Hardwoods - by Mark Stallard
3) 100 Things Kansas Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die - by Ken Davis
*** starting to see a trend here ? ***
4) Game of My Life; Memorable Stories of Jayhawks Basketball - by Steve Buckner
I'm ready to re-learn my roots, re-live history, be inspired and get hungry for the greatest team, the greatest fans, the greatest program in the history of college basketball.
ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK !
@brooksmd and O.
@ParisHawk I know what you mean! I STILL can't get the teenage girls to go out with me.
Wait.
@Crimsonorblue22 I agree too, I'm just bent out of shape.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah.
Maybe he's smarter than we think.......?
@BeddieKU23 I just wish he'd been a little more forthright. Like -
"We lost because we are what Mrs @drgnslayr says we are." We don't think, we don't execute, we don't play hard, we don't make shots when we need to AND we have no killer instinct. If we ever get a 12-15 point lead go ahead and mark us down for an "L" - because we will find a way to screw it up. Other than that, I thought it was a pretty good season".
I "almost" hope the Wichita Weasles get by Notre Dame.
So Kentucky can beat them like a rented mule.
Beat them so bad that they're crying - at half time.
Beat them so bad that the authorities have to get involved.
Beat them so bad that Marshall is run out of town and has to get a job as Bill Self's water boy. Then gets fired from that.
A realistic Kentucky - WSU score: 109 - 37
@approxinfinity WSU has been good before. WSU has beaten us before - I got to witness it firsthand in Nawlins. So now they're in the twilight of their glory. They may have one more decent year and then they'll fade off into oblivion for another 30-some years. I hope they enjoy it while they can.... Well, not really.
@ralster I've heard the "arrogant" remark from a lot of non-KU fans. Are they seeing something we don't?
I just call him stubborn.
Wish I knew how to "drag & drop" a picture - but I'm too computer illiterate.
BUT - The Kings of Kansas T-shirt literally made me laugh out loud. The one thing I took as a positive out of the WSU debacle is - no matter who we defeat
we will never print a t-shirt about it.
@justanotherfan said:
this is Kansas, that's what we do. We win 25 games every year.
That's exactly my problem. 25 wins per year. Any good team can get 25 now. We're slipping.
Our win totals beginning with 2006-2007:
33
37
27
33
35
32
31
25
27
If Self wants to shut up his critics - get us back up to that 30+ wins per season mark. And win a few in March.
@Statmachine God bless Svi !
It's a funny looking picture though - is he any relation to Nikki Minaj ?
