I am so proud of our guys. Best effort of the season.
Nice while it lasted.
Damn
Time for the D to step up
I was back in the area for a HS reunion and got to hang out on campus a few days before homecoming. Too bad I couldn't be there today !
@Crimsonorblue22 Backatcha !
YES !
Surprised to see Robert Griffin III doing color commentary for this game. Thought he was still in the NFL.
Taking advantage of Sooner sloppiness. Our offensive line looks really good today. Great job of clock management too.
We still need (at least) a couple more scores though.
WOW
This just in...Paul Pierce was just named to the NBA's top 75 all-time greatest players. (actually 76, due to a tie in the voting).
He becomes the second Jayhawk to make the all-time list, after Wilt Chamberlain.
Gotta admit, I've just been a casual NBA fan ever since the Sonics left town. I do enjoy following Jayhawks in the league though.
(And of course, the TNT post game show with Chuck, Kenny & Shaq. Usually more interesting than the games.)
What a pretty drive ! See what happens when you hang on to the ball ?
Expected the loss (with fingers crossed), but the injuries could hurt us more in the long run. It's not like we have a lot of depth.
Tuned to the Jayhawk Network right now, and I'm not quite sure which decade I'm listening in.
Brian Hanni et al talks about the KU offense "cooking with gas." Also a Great Gildersleeve reference.
(Quick, where's my ration coupon book ?)

Play your ABBA and take the L, weirdos
Mamma Mia! What a half!
A lead on the road at halftime? Not used to this feeling.
Need to learn from the mistakes and build on the good stuff. Baylor at home next.
Still too many holes in our game...special teams, QB protection, too slow defense. Still, the offense shows signs of life.
It'd help if the O-line could provide a little protection.
Need a nice long sustained drive for a score...with a conversion this time !

My goodness. KU football could be back
Not quite yet. Defense still getting beaten on the edges. Offense is promising tonight though.
Touchdown Bean ! Tightrope run down the sideline.
We might've gotten a break from the refs...looked like he stepped out on the way to the end zone. A six-point game !
Coming out of the locker room at halftime with a couple of nice long runs.
Nice scramble for six, Jason !

Rock Chalk White Sox, uh, Jay Hawks. Sorry mixed up my sports. Working the remote tonight
Yeah, do us Mariners fans a favor and sweep Boston !
(Now back to our previously scheduled program...)
Not the prettiest drive, but it put points on the board.
Time to D up against that triple option.
Well, let's call this one a "measuring stick" game...see what this team can do against a Top-25 program.
People out here are still in shock after Washington lost at home to Montana....first loss to the Griz in over a century. Offense scored first, then played possum the rest of the game. Defense played okay but got worn down by the 4th quarter.
Everybody was looking ahead to the game at Michigan this weekend. Now I'm surprised that the spread is only a touchdown.
The Huskies went into the season with a national ranking and a chance to contend for the Pac-12 title. Fans not so sure of that now.
Time for a victory nightcap. Nite all. RCJH !
Had 'em all the way...
And our 22 month nightmare is over.
BALLGAME !!!!
Come on clock !
WAVE THE WHEAT
Brilliant call, Coach ! Way to take points off the board !
When you look at TV market size, this makes as much sense as any other option I've heard, short of the Big 10 taking us in.
You'd be adding market #8 (Houston), 17 (Orlando), 30 (SLC, plus a national following) and 36 (Cincinnati). I was surprised to see that the Orlando metro is now bigger than Miami, according to Nielsen. (BTW, Kansas City has dropped to #34.)
When UCF beat Boise State last night it added to their national profile. A rising program at a school with a 70,000 student enrollment, in a growing market.
The way I understand it, that two-way contract means he'll be bouncing back and forth between Miami and their G-League team in Sioux Falls.
Better beef up that wardrobe Marcus !
Props to Salvy, my favorite Royal. HRs in five straight games.
The local media out here thought Kansas City was just going to be a small speed bump for the Mariners in the wild card race. Instead, the M's got run off the road on their way to a series with Houston (a team that the Royals can actually beat now and then).
As for the World Series, Seattle fans are still waiting after 45 years. Shoot, it's been 20 since they even made the playoffs. I've lost track of the number of times this team's been in a rebuild. At least when the Royals do it, they manage to close the deal.
Congratulations to the Indomitable Lion Of Cameroon ! Even with his history of injuries, he managed to get a guaranteed money contract.
When the Royals lost to the (Damn) Yankees last night, they became the first team in the modern era to erase a deficit in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th inning. Couldn't do it in the 11th, though. Sheesh.
It's funny what you run across on other channels while the Olympics are going on. As I was channel surfing the other night I happened to catch an old Dick Cavett Show interview with Jim Ryun. This was right after he tripped and fell during a 1500 meter semifinal heat in the 1972 Olympics, a fall that Ryun claimed was caused by another runner. After his appeal was denied, he announced on the show he was retiring from amateur running, essentially ending his athletic career.
The Cavett show also featured other US Olympic athletes like gymnast Cathy Rigby, wrestler Dan Gable, boxer Sugar Ray Seales, plus ABC's Jim McKay, who praised Ryun for his sportsmanship after the fall.
Right now NBC is running a feature on Billy Mills's 1964 win.!
@Crimsonorblue22 said in Olympics:
@nwhawkfan I read that. I tried to stream it but it skipped to others sports, same with tv. Did you see it? I was wanting to see the Clemons gal in the hurdles.
Saw the heat but didn't see much of the hurdles. As I mentioned, I've been bouncing back and forth thru all the channels.
Nice to see NBC mention KU's Billy Mills during the 10,000 meter finals.
RUNNING BRAVE !
Good news...KU alum (and former NCAA champ) Bryce Hoppel qualified for the semifinals in the 800 meters, after finishing 3rd in his heat.
Next race for Bryce will be early Sunday morning, Central time (Sunday evening in Tokyo). The final is next Wednesday.
Mahomes isn't the only QB to dip his toe in the MLS waters. A couple of years ago Russell Wilson became a minority owner of the Seattle Sounders. Both teams vying for first place in the conference.
In the NBA, James Harden, Kevin Durant and Steve Nash all own part of other MLS teams. And LeBron bought into Liverpool FC.
I'm pretty much a "ring-head," having gone to two summer Olympics (Montreal, LA) and two winter games (SLC, Vancouver). So I'm all in on Tokyo. Already getting sore fingers from using my remote to catch events on the seven or eight cable channels they're on, including CBC in Canada and the Spanish-language Telemundo. All while trying to keep an eye on my local teams and the whole UT/OU brouhaha.
Shame that there are no fans in the stands. It really takes away from the atmosphere, especially during the opening ceremonies. Then again, after spending most of 2020 watching empty stadiums and arenas in other sports, it's less of a shock than it would be otherwise.
What I enjoy are getting to watch some of the lower-profile sports that you'd never see otherwise, like fencing, rowing (real big out here, what with all the U of Washington alumni) or archery.
And if you've never seen (team) handball before, check it out. A basketball-like game where you shoot at a goal that's roughly the size midway between a hockey and a soccer goal. Wouldn't want to be a goalie in that sport. I got hooked the first time I saw a game in person, the gold medal match back in '84. It's mostly played in Europe, but the USA could really be good at this, if only more people knew about it.
If the rest of the Big XII teams wanted to play hardball with OU and UT, they could follow the lead of the European soccer leagues (pardon the mixed metaphor).
Earlier this year the big money clubs tried to break away and create a Super League. Immediately the domestic leagues threatened them with heavy fines and other major sanctions. That (and near-riots in some cities) made the big dogs back off.
It's not like the NCAA has much power left to stop the other B12 schools from doing that. Welcome to the Wild West.

KU has to either go for the Big 10 or the less attractive option of the Pac-12. The Pac-12 means conference games starting at 9 PM most nights. That would suck. In the Big 10, at least you have most conference games starting at either 6, 7 or 8 at the latest (probably 6 or 7 all the time). That's workable.
The big hangup is KState. The legislature may not let KU leave KState behind, which may doom both to a non major conference.
I agree the PAC is a really bad option for both parties. No current league stretches across 3 time zones, and that makes all sports an awkward fit, especially Olympic and other non-revenue sports. The roadies to freaking Pullman would be a disaster.
Slight correction: I'm sure you're talking about Big 5 football schools only, but the WAC does have teams in the Pacific, Mountain & Central time zones. Never did understand why UMKC was ever a member...the travel costs must have been killer.
You're right about road trips to Pullman, though. As someone once said, "It ain't the end of the world, but you can see it from there."
@BShark said in Going to get real easy for KU from here on..:
Not really. UNC and Duke still have a great brand and Nike behind them. If they falter well we see Alabama, Nova, Michigan etc
And Gonzaga isn't going away either. Ranked in the top 3 recruiting classes on most sites.
