When a legendary coach retires, hiring his replacement from the "family" isn't always the best move.
Check out this list of ten guys who replaced the legends. This article is almost ten years old, but still timely. (Note the first name on the list.)

Congrats Keith ! Good to hear he's still making a living playing the game he loves.
And if he can't walk down the Hill for graduation, he can always walk down the Acropolis...
The wheels fell off in his final round. Shot 5 over par, for a finish of +3 for the tournament. Disappointing, but at least he's been trending in the right direction lately.
Congrats to Lefty. Quite an accomplishment (especially for "a man his age"). His biggest accomplishment may have been getting through that mob scene on the 18th hole!
Still in the mix after a really bizarre third round. He shot even par again...this time with six birdies and three double bogeys.
Now tied for seventh, five shots behind Mickelson, who threatened to run away with the lead before coming back to the pack on the back nine. Phil's obviously the sentimental favorite, especially when you consider he's twice as old as some of the players in the field.
Gary needs to go pretty low on Sunday and get some help from the guys in front of him.
Gary's back on the leaderboard again, this time in a major. 7th place, midway thru the PGA Championship.
Just 3 shots back of the leaders despite shooting even par on a tough, windy ocean course.

Pls no. Their conference network is a trash fire and for us east coast Hawks it would be a disaster. B1G is a much better fit.
The Pac-12 just hired a new commissioner last week, so lots of things are on the table, including expansion.
Their last commish was a disaster, if you listen to most of the media out here on the coast. He engineered that TV deal where most of the top games were played too late at night for most of the country. Even though the new guy hasn't said it yet, fixing that has to be one of his priorities.
I can't see KU joining on their own...that'd make the conference membership an uneven (and awkward 13 teams). So who'd be the other team(s) to go in with us? Not sure if K-State would even be interested unless the money was right.
For Thanksgiving, no less...

All in all, this is turning out to be a LOT better off-season than I expected. Remy killed us a couple of years ago when he came off the bench to hit a bunch of clutch shots. Good to have him on our side.
"If you CAN beat 'em, join 'em"
Must've jinxed him...a couple of bogeys on the back nine left him at even par for the round. Rory wins...another guy who hadn't won since 2019.
Still, Gary's fifth-place finish is his best since that Open win.
Tied for the lead with Rory midway thru the final round. Just keep it in the fairway and make a few putts.
Finally, some good news. Gary's put three good rounds together at the tournament in Charlotte, and is tied with Rory McIlroy in second place going into Sunday's final round. Only two shots back of the leader.
It's been a long dry spell for him...no wins since his 2019 US Open victory. A good time to get his game back, what with the PGA Championship just a couple of weeks away.
Well, congrats to Baylor. They deserved it. Stifling defense and domination on the boards.
As for Gonzaga, they'll just reload.
Zags just flat got outhustled the first 10 minutes, especially on the boards, while Baylor was shooting like the 1985 Villanova team.
Back to a manageable 10 points at the half. If they keep going inside, they could get the Bears deeper in foul trouble.
I think Gonzaga's already had their tournament scare. Expect them to cover.
Rooting for the Northwest favorite tonight. Corey Kispert used to play at the HS just up the street from me...didn't realize he'd turn out to be this good.
And for those of you rooting for the Pac-12, there's always the women's final tomorrow. Stanford - Arizona. (And not an Auriemma in sight...)
Glad I made it back from church service in time to catch the end. Guess I missed a good first 35 minutes.
Speaking of which, Happy Easter everyone !
No matter who wins, there's no way the final can top this one.
What is it that Bill Raftery says ? ONIONS !
And it'll be the final (almost) everyone wanted to see.
HO - LEE -SHIT !!!
I've seen that one called both ways. Overtime!
And no teams east of the Mississippi are left.
The network suits must tearing out what's left of their hair.
Wow. I did NOT see that coming.
One step away from that long-delayed Gonzaga-Baylor matchup. Would love to see it.
Just two points shy of the over-under line of 153.
So much for the idea that SC's bigs were going to hold Gonzaga at bay underneath.
Bulldogs outrebounding the Trojans 21-14 at the half. Twice as many points in the paint...32-16.
And KU's only 4-star recruit is toast.

Those two brothers whose name I've forgotten already from EWU are transferring. Doubtful they'd travel east to a school like KU but a 3 point shooting big sounds cool to me!
Groves Bros. We could use another big, especially one who can shoot.
@jayballer67 Name recognition is all well and good, but I think of Texas Tech when they hired Bob Knight. Another big name with a questionable past. Yeah, he put seats in the stands, but it's not like their program made all that much progress on the court.

Kreuger retiring surprises me - -didn't see that coming
Most likely one of his assistant coaches will be the new coach
What about Porter Moser? This would be a great move for him. Compared to Indiana, the OU fan base has reasonable expectations.
It took me awhile to appreciate him as a coach after rooting against him as a player, but he had a great career.
What a crappy 12 months and 2 weeks, on and off the court.
Need a repeat of 2019-20 next season , this time with a long tournament run. No postponements, no cancellations, no masks, full Fieldhouse.
Despite all the upsets, three #1 seeds are still alive. Wouldn't mind seeing Gonzaga win it all, now that we're out of it.
Hope USC destroys Oregon. There's a lot of arrogant Duck fans in my neck of the woods.
Clear the bench time
Fork tender. Wait till next year.
J-Dub!
Colorado loses to Florida State. First Pac-12 team to go down.
Let's make it two now, dammit !
Don't think we can come back from a big deficit tonight. This ain't Eastern Washington
Finally
I'm so nervous I can't put a sentence together.
Er, dozen more
But first, CBS needs to cram in a few more dozen commercials before the tipoff.
Let's go Big Mac !
Garza was always going to get his points. The key was to stop everyone else.
Oregon D held three of their starters scoreless.
So now we have the chance to take down two Pac-12 schools in a row. Not mention avenging the 2017 tourney loss to the Ducks.
First things first though...gotta get past the Trojans.
Wayne Tinkle wins in Hinkle.
And the Big 12 goes 0-for-3 on the day. Meanwhile, the much-maligned Pac-12 is 6 and 0.
Hope we can do something about that tomorrow against USC.
Nova wins big over the Mean Green.
Weird seeing Jay Wright in a sweater. What happened to the D'Annunzio suits?
Jeez, if this keeps up he'll start to look like Belichick,
EXPECT A(NOTHER) MIRACLE
Absolutely nutso tournament
Another double-digit seed wins. Syracuse over WVU.
Oral Roberts - Florida next.
By the way, the last time ORU made it into the NCAA second round was 1974, when there were only 25 teams in the tournament field.
Ah, I remember it well...KU managed to outlast them in OT in front of a pro-ORU crowd in Tulsa to win the Midwest Regional and go to the national semifinals (before they called it the Final Four). The Eagles' coach, Ken Trickey, had already announced that he was resigning. The night before the game, he got arrested on a suspected DUI (but was actually given a "reckless driving" charge).
As for the Jayhawks, they lost to Marquette in the semis and to Bill Walton & UCLA in the now-defunct third-place game. NC State won the title that year, led by David Thompson.
