1 is in the game for KU. This in no way means he's our top player.

Last time I saw this many turnovers was in the bakery

We can't even dribble.

Badgers and UAPB tonight at 9. Just titillating matchup.

This team is good enough to take Auburn to OT who is also receiving votes.

3 point shooting may be a strength this year.

This game thread, like the other is going to be lost in cyberspace.

Abaji gives us something we haven't had all season, a lead.

Rebounding is our biggest weakness this year it appears

Of course they may be right.

Someone on the other thread is already predicting we'll lose I assume.

Layup line forms for STJ and Big Dave misses a bunny. Is this a tape of yesterday?

The tension builds, the crowd roars

I'm gonna chat here since I started the game thread here.

So it doesn't mean KU Minus 19?

@BShark Me neither but I'd never bet on a game! I don't even know what KU-19 means. Can you explain that?

St. Joseph's Hawks. A battle of Hawks. A battle of Hawks trying to avoid an 0-2 start to their season.

I think with no modifier to what kind of hawk they are I believe mascot wise we have the upper hand. In the US there are 25 varieties of Hawks, none known as a Jay Hawk for some reason, so I'm a little suspicious of the website I found this information.

St. Joseph's Hawks immediately brings to mind one of my bad basketball memories. As a child growing up in Chicago I was all over the DePaul Blue Demons. After a final four in which they nearly knocked Larry Bird out (ruining the legendary Bird-Magic final) DePaul added some studdly recruits like Terry Cummings and they were all set. They'd lost once all year by a point. Big favorite to win it all, ranked #1 almost all season. 85% DePaul FT shooter missed a FT with like 2 seconds left, STJ guy cherrypicked at the other end and he scored an uncontested layup to win. Ray was a great coach but his guys weren't coached up very well that day. Probably his best chance to win was that season.

So I still kind of hate STJ's unknown variety of Hawk.

Since STJ is a Philly school, I can't help but think of my favorite Philly coach's moment with the coach of the team we play Tuesday. How many of us have dreamed of being John Cheney in a moment like this?

As for today I know little about them. They lost yesterday in OT which on a holiday means at least they got paid double time for those extra five minutes. Auburn beat them which is also receiving votes. It should be noted that the votes they received were the mail in variety so the Trump administration is demanding a recount. It's kind of a weird prestige to Also Receive Votes. Imagine going to a recruit and telling them "Come play for us and you'll also receive votes"?!?! The self esteem of those Not Also Receiving Votes (NARS) is quite devastating. Just ask any KState fan or Misery fans.

So I really don't know what to expect today. You can chat about it here. Or somewhere else if you want or with your wife, significant other and insignificant other.

Gonzaga Game Thread • Nov 27, 2020 01:33 AM

Family obligations kept me outside around a campfire with no one allowed in my own home on Thanksgiving! But, I did record and watch several hours ago. Interesting as I was watching (with no foreknowledge of how the game went) is that the things I was seeing was the same as you all.

Bad calls. Not enough to overcome a deficit like that, but impacted the game. Ones I remember that you all noted: Mitch block, Marcus and one turned into a charge (HORRIBLE), Marcus masterful pickpocket steal (HoRiBlE) Nearly all the out of bounds calls that appeared close were not favorable to us.

Bad defense. Maybe they were told to practice social distancing. Maybe they thought they already were in the NBA. Maybe they thought this was the mid major Gonzaga instead of the darn good Gonzaga, but we defended like no Bill Self has ever defended, because really, we didn't defend.

Our offense was decent, but it's just hard to keep up with a team sometimes. Make a 3, maybe get a stop, come back and score, and we're down 2 or 3 , and then bam Zags layup line forms again and we can't respond.

There's a hugely different look to the team compared to the last 3 or 4 years which always had returning go to guys. That will take a little adjustments. Hopefully Big Dave can develop into a consistent inside scorer and rebounder. Without Doke he looked a bit lost today.

Tomorrow's a good day to tweet things for the looming Kentucky battle.

1PM game tomorrow folks don't miss it while out bargain hunting.

Tonight 6:30 DDot and Doke • Nov 21, 2020 03:30 AM

Ddot gets signed by the team with the owner who hired a 76 year old drunk to manage his other big league team in Chicago which happens to be muly team. The Bulls are a hot mess. They also drafted #4 an 19 year old who didn't start in college.

@DanR What would we be ranked if we lost to them and they cancelled the season?

Lock downs saves lives and numbers of infections. When lockdowns happen, some people say, see, why are we locking down, not that many people are getting sick or dying. They're like the person taking medication for whatever ailment it is, let's say high blood pressure. The meds keeps it lower, person says, see, I don't need these meds so I'll stop taking them. Weeks later person suffers heart attack. It's really the same.

Tonight 6:30 DDot and Doke • Nov 14, 2020 06:19 PM

NBA channel has a Get to Know draft prospects series and Doke and Dot make the cut tonight at 6:30.

No Silvio • Nov 11, 2020 12:54 AM

@BShark Oof. I hate to be that guy, but some mildly argued with me when he left as I blamed him in the KState incident. I'm done with him. Sad story. Hope he can figure out how to avoid all of this trouble that he's in the middle of.

Tony LaRussa aka AJ Hinch? • Nov 10, 2020 04:46 AM

Tony LaRussa DWI arrest the day before the Sox hired him. And the team knew about it. The Sox are in my blood, can't quit but Reinsdork you must give up this team, but how do you force that? Wow, if he isn't fired or have the decency to resign, we can still find a decent manager.

Preseason AP Top 25 Poll • Nov 10, 2020 02:18 AM

Iowa returns most everyone from a team that finished a game out of 10th place in the BIG.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Wow, that's an amazing schedule we'll be facing.

Preseason AP Top 25 Poll • Nov 09, 2020 08:19 PM

@BeddieKU23 @jayballer67 I'm not sure if you can tell, but I really, as a matter of policy, hate Iowa. Yes Garza's the headliner and they get some love because of him, but that team folded last year with basically all the same guys going this year. They got blasted by Depaul last year that should tell you something.

Preseason AP Top 25 Poll • Nov 09, 2020 05:33 PM

Ha Iowa, what a joke. They'll be good, but what ever talent they have gets negated by the other Fran I dislike. They have almost a worse basketball resume than the state they share a border with misery. 1979 conference champ (their last) which is impressive actually as that was Magic's championship season at MSU. FF in 1980 and a couple in the 50's That's it.

Of course maybe this poll accidentally posted here was the wrestling poll. Then Iowa deserves to be highly ranked.

2020-21 Non-conference Schedule • Nov 07, 2020 06:37 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Wow that's strange. Of course, it's 2020 so....

2020-21 Non-conference Schedule • Nov 07, 2020 03:31 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Are you joking?

Billy Tubbs... RIP (for once!) • Nov 07, 2020 01:18 AM

@mayjay I looked it up. We lost by 8 twice to OU during the regular season, the 2nd time was a higher scoring game than he NC game. It was an upset but I was among many not expecting to get blown out by OU.

Billy Tubbs... RIP (for once!) • Nov 06, 2020 04:35 AM

@tis4tim You are remembering correctly, and in fact, we lost to KState, the first time I'd seen KU lose in AFH as they had a long win streak at home. Then they lost to OU, the next game and a few weeks later they lost to Duke at home. Now I'd seen them lose three times in the space of a month. Sweet revenge a month or two later.

In the dance, we were seeded 6th despite our poor record, and got Xavier, ranked 18th, but seeded 11th! Murray St. upset 3rd seeded NCS, so we got them in the 2nd round, they nearly beat us, then we played Vandy which upset 2nd seeded Pitt so we got Vandy. Then KState upset 1 seed Pitt so we got the easier draw the entire tournament until the FF!

@Hawk69 your line about OU is slightly untrue. We gave OU everything they could handle twice during the regular season. Maybe the general public assumed this 11 loss team is gonna get walloped but people who followed knew it was no gimme for Oklahoma.

As for Billy Tubbs he used a sub for all of 5 minutes in that game. THEY were gassed, not us and Brett can go to Hades as well as Billy P who messed up that telecast too with his constant blathering about KU playing it wrong. Meanwhile, KU was rolling out football players, farm boys and other don't belong types in a national championship game and entertaining the heck out of us. I was an about to graduate senior. What a year!

KenPom Rankings • Nov 06, 2020 04:10 AM

@BeddieKU23 Everyone's been super hyped about the freshmen too. For a while, before the big dogs got their guys it was the top ranked class out there. Micah Potter is going to make some HM AA lists I'm guessing by the end of the season. He was coming on incredibly strong at the end of the season. UW was dead in the water last year until Potter was allowed to play at the end of the 1st semester. It took a few games to get in the flow but then they clicked and tied for the BIG.

KenPom Rankings • Nov 05, 2020 03:34 AM

Noticed another of my favorite teams just below Kansas.

Charlie Moore • Nov 04, 2020 04:17 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 If that game was early in the season Depaul was humming along and Charlie was playing decently. But I watched quite a few games and saw similar adventures.

Tony LaRussa aka AJ Hinch? • Nov 04, 2020 04:13 AM

If he gets them a world series I love it. If he has trouble relating to the Sox stars and creates dissension, then obviously it was a bad move. Of course anytime you have a 76 year old being hired to manage a team in 2021 you have to ask questions about managing with the use of analytics and such.

Charlie Moore • Oct 31, 2020 06:50 PM

@BeddieKU23 Ha, I never noticed that trend. When I first saw Charlie he was a senior in HS. He was playing in a high level hs tournament in Chicago and he stood out. I had no idea who he was going in there at the time. Never could have dreamed he'd turn into the player we saw at KU. I can't even think of a worse player at KU in my time of watching them which goes back to the 80's.

Charlie Moore • Oct 29, 2020 03:28 AM

Preseason all Big East. I watched a bit of Depaul basketball last year and he didn't look all that different from when he played for us. A lot of wildish shots and generally an accident waiting to happen.

Updated 2020-21 Kansas Basketball Schedule • Oct 27, 2020 11:50 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 There's a local school nearby Chicago St. which is in the WAC. About as goofy as Boise St being in the Big East. Chicago St. is annually one of the worst D-1 programs. An embarrassing school in basketball rich Chicago and have been total garbage for as long as I remember. They have a beautiful gym that draws large crowds for.... high school games. They ought to be liquidated. I've often wondered who pays for travel and scholarships for teams like that who make no money whatsoever.

'Zona gets NOA • Oct 27, 2020 11:41 PM

@BeddieKU23 You could be right!

'Zona gets NOA • Oct 27, 2020 12:22 AM

@BeddieKU23 I think you're giving Zona too much credit! We rank higher in the NCAA prestige and probably get a fairer shake than UA would. I don't get why you'd think they'd favor Arizona?

Of course on the other hand their coach is on wiretap discussing 100,000 and Ayton and he gets a 1 game suspension and Ayton switches his commitment from them to us, so I guess maybe they do get some favorable treatment.

Updated 2020-21 Kansas Basketball Schedule • Oct 27, 2020 12:18 AM

@wrwlumpy Yeah, that's a new one to me. Apparently they're in the WAC.

Late Night • Oct 24, 2020 03:19 AM

Late night? Tonight? Was watching KC area QB Graham Mertz make his first college start for the Badgers and go 20-21, 5TD's and like 240 yards.

Quarantine the NCAA

You all make valid points, but this is a 3rd negative associated with him. Sure, he might not have known about the Glassner money, but he might have.

I don't give him a pass on the fight. He could have blocked the shot and walked away, but he didn't. Instead he decided to go and hover over the kid on the ground.

Now he 'quits' on the team that could use him. Obviously we don't know the latest story so i use quits cautiously. Some people it seems attract trouble/controversy/difficulty and it appears he's one of them.

That's my story, I'm sticking to it!

No Silvio • Oct 17, 2020 01:54 PM

I hope this student athlete got a degree or is close to that. He's been here since 2017. That'd be the only thing that makes his coming here worth it. He's a part of the biggest team scandal in history. He helped us get to the FF which is nice, but as a result, we'll get that stripped from the record and even if it doesn't get stripped, we got there and were thoroughly embarrassed by Villanova.

Fans like to post they're embarrassed when a team is performing poorly. I sometimes will gently chide them because they shouldn't be embarrassed, no one is going to point fingers at them and snicker! Then the fight last year, one of the worst moments I've had as a KU fan. THAT was embarrassing. It brought national shame on our program. Adding to the cloud of the coming sanctions and it was just too much. In my mind Silvio went from being the semi innocent victim in the adidas thing to being someone who made us look like Georgetown of the '80s.

Of course maybe if we knew the rest of the story I'd be a little less harsh. But we're left to speculate what prompted this latest drama.

I have a 46 millimeter vertical jump

I'll pray.

RIP Gale Sayers. • Sep 23, 2020 06:20 PM

Wow, what a name for a town for the Kansas Comet! I'm wishing I'd seen him for my long suffering bears fandom as well.

RIP Gale Sayers. • Sep 23, 2020 04:12 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, I didn't hear that, but he had sued the NFL 7 or 8 years ago about the concussions he had.

@Texas-Hawk-10 That's a great story.

@nuleafjhawk I figured, as one of our, ahem, more 'experienced' members might remember Gayle Sayers!

I've heard frequently of his great personality and charming ways. That must have come from spending 5 years here in Chicago!

RIP Gale Sayers. • Sep 23, 2020 01:34 PM
