@dylans Interesting you didn't take a stab at Udoke Azbekuenzngiens'enfffces
Gonna need a pronunciation guide with this team next year.
@Jayballer54 @JayHawkFanToo when I say a shot is ridiculous I think it implies lucky, amazing, whatever. Wasn't quite saying he made it because he is so fantastically skilled.
@Blown Got it's own thread on Past Jayhawks.
Another career up in smoke. Except I hope for his sake, he matures and gets his act together. It always blows me away when someone has the potential to make a lot of money playing a sport and sabotages his chances.
@HighEliteMajor I had that thought as well. Hopefully he doesn't, I think he can contribute a lot to our team next year.
That shot on the fast break he made last night was ridiculous with a capital RIDICULOUS.
I think when we remember that the dude is 19 years old we might take greater appreciation for what he does. When I was 19, oh forget it!
@JayHawkFanToo Nice list! I was being a little snarky of course, don't take my comment too seriously. I will say more seriously that, as has been oft discussed, the competition for conference titles has been more stout in other conferences. I know that will bring some responses, but we have had no Duke/UNC/Florida/Kentucky/UConn/Louisville/Nova type competition. Those are schools that have won titles during the streak. Heck, we've barely had to compete against FF teams in our league. I can pretty much guarantee we don't win 13 titles in a row if we're playing in the SEC, ACC, BigEast/whatever it's called now/Big10/. Maybe the streak is doable in the PAC12? Dunno about that one.
Probably this is influenced by my Chicago roots, but I think the best basketball movie of all time is Hoop Dreams.
Favorite baseball movie Pride of the Yankees
Favorite War movie To End All Wars (Dunkirk honorable mention)
Favorite Comedy The Blues Brothers (Chicago connection) (Bernie-Honorable Mention)
Favorite quirky movie Napoleon Dynamite
Favorite Western "Shane"
Favorite musical Singin in the rain
Favorite stupid movie What about Bob
Favorite Football movie When the Game Stands Tall
I think the UCLA streak is more impressive because of what happened 3 weeks later!
All I can say is welcome back to the 2018-19 Jayhawks Mr. Vick!
@Careful-you Technically not a major, there's four, but this tournament is one of the bigger tournaments out there besides the four majors.
@Crimsonorblue22 I thought you were saying that Garrett deserves more time to prove himself with your "why not Marcus" comment. I agree, he holds his own, but I wouldn't mind seeing some more Cunliffe.
@Crimsonorblue22 Doesn't Marcus get a lot more time to prove himself than Cunliffe?
@DanR You need to pick new friends!
Cracks me up when fans blame the fans in attendance for the poor performance on the court.
It's just not that great of a team.
We've kind of known all year our team might not be up to snuff particularly when the Preston thing reared its' ugly head, so a loss like this just doesn't bother me that much. We're going to enter the dance as a 2-4 seed and in some ways, it might be a little freeing without all of that pressure as the #1 and all of our failures in recent years as a #1 seed.
Ha, Missouri's clocks don't work. Makes feel better, at least a little bit anyways!
Self just whispered to Snacks "You do the halftime speech next time."
Anytime KU wants to make a 3 fine by me.
The old folks are heading for the exits already
I want my money back.
The done deal is looking less done right now.
That could all change with a loss today. Not predicting a loss today, but I haven't predicted any of our losses!
In the classic 3 OT game.
This was pretty nice, but we're seeing a lot of similar plays this year.
Anyone who can do this against a former Syracuse player is one of my favs!
His uncle gets hyped.
Dunk against Kentucky.
As many are aware, Wayne has undergone a renaissance in his game. I don't follow him closely enough to know if this is the result of playing on a pretty downtrodden team, thus more minutes available, or if he's learned something new, but anyways, here's my tribute to Wayne, an enigma that memorably made his mark his 3rd and last year at KU.
He was the third and last piece of Self's best recruiting class of Joel, Wiggs and Wayne. He underwhelmed us his freshman and sophomore years. Gladly this set him up as a BMOC for his junior year. He started out hot. Made a ton of threes, was one of the nations leaders for a while, and we were finally seeing the potential he had.
The thing is, we knew it was there. You don't get to be a top 20 ranked player and not have a lot of potential. We'd see flashes and then it'd disappear in disappointment. His freshman year ended with a 2 point disappointment against Stanford.
In fact, he had a sophomore slump, shooting under 40% on two's, and his PPG decreased. Season ended with a 0 point dud against Wichita.
Junior Year Wayne Selden is what I'll remember. Double figure scoring machine, on a veteran team there was a lot of rock to share so his average of 14 points doesn't sound amazing, but he played well. He scored 33 against Kentucky in a memorable OT match in the AFH. We'll all remember the dunk in OT. He averaged 18 a game in 4 tournament games, but ended a third tourney with a disappointing 0-5 from three against champ 'Nova.
We weren't surprised when he announced he was going pro, but he'd left us wanting for more. Kudos to Wayne Selden, one of my favorite Hawks, at least for a season.
Selden's last year version is one of my favorite Jayhawks. That was a great season that ended prematurely. I'm glad to see he's playing well.
@JayHawkFanToo I don't recall it being so. It really wasn't the most popular move to add those two teams in the first place and I don't think those schools liked it too much either.
@BeddieKU23 As far as I've heard it's a one year thing, but it's actually the 2nd year on the east coast as it was in Washington DC.
@BeddieKU23 I think it might backfire because too much rest can cause a team to lose its' edge. NFL wildcard teams have been pretty successful in playoffs because the season keeps ticking along without skipping a beat. I mean Izzo will probably be going crazy during that week and a half time awaiting his first/second seed game. What do they really need to practice at that point? Of course two years ago they got Middle Tennessee Stated with little rest, so who knows, maybe I'm wrong! MLB wildcard teams have won the world series in recent years as they just keep playing when the season ends, while the non wildcards sit and wait almost a week before they play.
@BeddieKU23 Nothing screams money is ruining college sports more than your point that the B1G is ending their season one week earlier. What a lot of people don't realize is this is because they are playing their conference tournament in NYC's Madison Square Garden. The Garden is taken for the BigEast tourney the week after so sharing the limelight with the Horizon and some other lesser conferences is the way to go I guess. I really hope no one shows up at those games. It's such a slap in the face of the traditional powers in that league, and the non-traditional powers.
Nebraska or Minny or Iowa fans might dream of driving to Chicago or Indy for the conference tournament, but you can bet that they're not driving all the way to NYC for a tournament game that may last all of 1 day.
@mayjay I still don't know what they're talking about!
@nuleafjhawk Sad thing is the ugly girls behind the basket were the cheerleaders.
B1G has been treated pretty poorly in the tournament in recent years. 17-8 for Nebraska may not be enough to get in.
I worked through college as a laborer and bricklayer. Many days in the summer I'd work 8-10 hours busting tail, go home, have a bite and then head to the park to play ball for a couple of hours. I know that's not quite the same intensity, but the energy was there, no doubt, so I don't buy the fatigue excuse either.
Wilt averaged 48.5 minutes per game one season. That's not a typo.
My daughter in high school played JV and Varsity soccer at the same time. She'd play the entire 80 minutes of a match, take a breather and then play 60 more minutes in the JV match. Soccer involves a lot of running. But she's young and energetic.
I realize it's not ideal for our guys to play all 40 minutes but it's not as big of a deal as some make it out to be.
I bet if you asked DG, Svi or Malik if they minded playing 40 minutes they'd have said, 'Naaah".
@BeddieKU23 Uh oh, did Jaybate start another one?
Half time speech by Bill Self was misinterpreted by players who thought Bill said let KSU back in it, you know for TV ratings or stuff.
Pretty girl behind basket distracted players.
Ugly girl behind basket distracted players.
Any girl behind basket distracted players.
Bill Snyder snuck a football into the ball rack.
Someone opened the door leading outside and the farmland stench was more than we could bear.
Bruce Webers stench was more than we could bear.
Bricks were on sale at the local Home Depot. Snacks went out at halftime and bought some.
Our players were locked inside a closet by an absent minded janitor and imposters took on our unis.
Trump built a wall around the hoop and made us pay for it.
The NCAA, wanting Duke and Kentucky to get all the breaks ordered referees to distract our shooters.
Dokes made FT's threw off our rhythm.
We weren't trying hard enough.

45% is pretty average for college hoops. Loads of teams in that range. Of course, under our typical % for the year.
Agree about Mitch, I hope he is good to go going forward.
We shot so poorly in the 2nd half that our overall game % was below average for us was my point. My friend I was watching with kept saying the rims were at fault. Could be, not sure, but something sure changed from the 1st half to the 2nd.
Bruce was a terrible recruiter at U of I too. His brother coached Jon Scheyer in HS in the Chicago area too, and Scheyer wouldn't go to play for Bruce.
Wasn't there on the KUSports who had random thoughts, like oakville jayhawk or something like that?
Anyways, here's mine.
It seemed like Mitch got concussed and probably shouldn't have gotten back into the game.
The 2nd half rim seemed loose and contributed to some shooting woes somehow or other.
Fran pointed out our D improving. It could be because KState's shooting was horrible, maybe that's why the rims seemed loose.
Our shooting percentage went from an amazing 78% towards the end of the half to a below average 45% by the end of the game. That beginning of the 2nd half was painful.
Speaking of painful, Cunliffe. Question answered as to why he isn't playing more.
Garrett's 4 minutes were below average but they were a foul every 75 seconds 4 minutes.
DG is amazing. What will be fun is to watch us adjust next year without him because we know Bill Self will have us uber competitive once again.
Love watching Doke dive on the floor.
Love watching Doke make 2 FT's.
Doke's 4 points and 3 rb's were below average.
Newmann is starting to take up Vick's slack. Vick had 8 or 9 quick points and then contributed little else.
Self for coach of the year ..... again.
A couple of winnable games at home coming up. Then on the road for some toughies. Except we seem to play better on the road.
@Crimsonorblue22 double negative means theres something! (sorry teacher coming out in me again)
We couldn't afford to lose any of our players at this point, obviously DG, but any of our regulars would just about do us in. Sure, we'll still dance, but not much after that.
@Crimsonorblue22 You're right, I think he had a career high the other day.
Josh Jackson 0-13 today. Ouch!
