Wilt, MJ, Russell then Lebron for goat.
@KirkIsMyHinrich I'm expecting close since it's at AFH, as strange as it is to write that sentence! Therefore, it will be interesting to see how they handle Doke's PT down the stretch. As someone pointed out this game is sort of like an exhibition game (although tournament seedings are still at stake) so some experimenting may be done with Doke's usage.
@Jayballer54 You're being too diplomatic 10-0 Big 12!
Great story. Hope the kid contributes to the team in some great way.
Just looked at ESPN, disgusting.
Hadn't heard that. Is this related to that Dr.? Badgers play there tonight. Bo won 16 of 28 games against Izzo btw.
@BShark What are you talking about?
@BeddieKU23 yeah, he didn’t have much range. He infamously disappeared during crunch time against Buddy Hield and top ranked OU.
@approxinfinity Great story! You're a recent vintage Jayhawk. Interesting that your perception of Roy wasn't good. We don't talk much about that Georgia Tech loss in 2004 but that was a winnable season I thought. OT loss in the regional final. GT all the way to the final against UCONN which had an upset lined path to the final four having to beat 8 seed Alabama in the regional final.
Just curious, I love stories. If I knew you in person I’d ask you. We all share a great bond here.
As for me, a switched at birth baby because my parents could care less about sports, I loved all of the ball sports, pro and college. Although baseball is my best sports college hoops is a close 2nd and I can remember watching Norte Dame end UCLAs 88 game streak.
As a suburban Chicago kid KU wasn’t on my radar at all. U of I and DePaul were my hoops life. But when I chose KU over UW (they weren’t on my radar either) because out of state tuition was cheaper I became hooked. Couldn’t have chosen better. Had a blast ever since I sat in late night 1985 and watched one of KUs greatest teams.
@BeddieKU23 That’s my memory of him at LSU.
I wonder whom among us Doke couldn't understand?
dylans said:
@wissox Who’s Ben Simmons? ;)
Not sure if you're serious or not. If you are I apologize. OAD from Australia who went to LSU. Spectacular talent who I watched from the front row during my Baton Rouge years. I thought I was watching the 2nd coming of Danny Manning. He already has the most triple doubles in NBA history for a rookie. He and Joel are going to win some rings I think. And Fultz hasn't even played for them yet. They keep drafting OAD's who get hurt.
Wow, Joel's rookie teammate Ben Simmons tonight, 19, 17 and 14. That's a productive night. Joel chipped in 21 but there were no rebounds and assists to go around after Simmons took them all.
Doke goes 5-5 from FT line in final minute of NC Game.
Doke now has missed more FT's than FG's.
What do ya'll think that the added pressure he must be feeling now means he has a sort of the yips that the pressure is bringing on?
Baseball is relatively famous for players developing the yips. If you're not familiar someone who develops the yips suddenly loses the ability to do that what he had done for his whole life in that particular sport.
Bill Blass, a Pirates hero in the 1972 world series, retires from baseball a year later because he suddenly couldn't throw the ball over the plate, like at all.
Steve Sax, a fine 2nd baseman, suddenly freezes up when he tries to throw the ball to 1st base that he's fielded. The throws start spraying all over, fans behind the 1st base dugout are terrified.
Rick Ankiel is the most famous in recent memory. A great Cardinals pitcher and one day he's all over the place. Never pitches effectively again in a real game. In practice, he's hitting his spots. Games, nada. To his credit he goes back to the minors and learns to play outfield and makes it back with some success.
Sox catcher can't throw the ball back to the pitcher. He has to get down on both knees and lob the ball back. Try stealing on him he'll fire it to 2nd and you'd never guess he can't throw it to the pitcher.
Doke might have the yips. It's so in his head now that he can't execute the mechanics he's undoubtedly being drilled on in practice. And by in the head, I mean, imagine being a 20 year old living and playing 6000 miles from home and having A. The home crowd groaning with every miss, or B. The visiting crowd roaring at you and shamefully last night chanting USA.
And this might be the worst result of last night. Dokes misses are now public knowledge. OKState and KState and ISU and Baylor fans all know about it. We still have to go to those places. Their fans are going to be primed to pounce on the young man. It's going to shadow him the rest of the year unless his yips are cured.
Vick and DG shooting 1-13 on threes might have had something to do with the loss too.
A lot of great coaches on this site!
Not sure how long you've been around but there used too be unlimited 1 & 1s. They changed it to at least make teams think about fouling because end of games were awful to watch. Not sure I like your proposal but it does make some sense.
I wish Doke had fouled out with 3 minutes left.
Ha was about to post the same,! Easily the worst hair I've seen all year!
@Crimsonorblue22 some guy I never heard of from a mid major. Probably one of those exaggerate the stats schools!
Just listened to some of @Jesse-Newell 's excellent podcast. Eye popping stats on Doke.
Leads country in FG percentage at 77%. If the season ended today this would be the 2nd highest percentage in the last 25 years. 80% is that number and the 2nd best is 71%.
He also leads in effective FG%. No surprise there.
There's also a stat called True FG%. This factors in FT percentage somehow with shooting % and despite his terrible FT shooting, he also leads the nation in that!
Doke has missed 36 FG's and 33 FT's!
Because of these numbers double teams beware because he can pass out of the post to a plethora of unguarded 3 pointers including two of the top 50 3 ballers. Pick your poison opponents!
Best statistic I can find is 2 game lead in Big12 and #5 ranking, but I kind of think the deficiencies of this team will stop it before the final 4. Maybe this is the year we overachieve and make it to the last weekend.
New 30 for 30 "AD. The inside story of a man whom KU fans loved. Hear riveting testimonies from KU fans in the Flint Hills and Western Kansas of how they didn't even need to watch games on cable. Listen to the impassioned fans in the stands of one of histories worst football teams, one of whom even said "I can't imagine how many more games we'd lost if we'd had a less competent AD"
The league is really hard to read. Watching WVU meltdown makes me feel less great about our terrific win there last week. TCU is without one of their starters and still doing this. How does it look to selection committees when everyone in the league (except us) loses at least 6 games? It's headed that way. I guess people could argue that it means everyone is really good too. But losses makes teams look bad. I dunno. Baylor almost beats us at home and then gets blasted by silo tech in Wacko. We nearly lost to a team that loses by a ton at home to a team that almost beat us at home. Crazy days.
Of course I notice Badgers things and UW has one name on the list, Sam Dekker and has the longest sweet 16 streak in the nation, which is going to end this year in all likelihood.

Still amazed by our great win at WVU last week. This video will help us to remember that great feeling.
Granny style is my suggestion.
@JayHawkFanToo Selden has stated what? Haha, just messing with you!
I should have mentioned that teammates at KU Embiid and WIggins both scored 29 in winning efforts.
You can get your fill of former Hawks in a Grizzlies box score and yesterday Wayne Selden went off for 31 points. They lost, as they do a lot, but thats a Wayne Selden that we loved during his time here. BMAC had 10 in the same game, but SuperMario didn't play because of a shoulder issue.
I don't have any quick thoughts, just slow ones. I didn't get to watch, gave up because watchespn app wasn't working very well for some reason.
Looked at the box score. I did see us go up 18-6 or something like that and then score 50 more points over the next 36 minutes (zzzzzs) This team can jump out of the gate better than any team in the history of hoops and then forget what they were doing shortly thereafter. That Baylor team was about a bad a Baylor team we've seen in a while (at least the parts I could see).
So quick thoughts. Bill Self doesn't know who he has on his bench (kidding), and he needs to listen to us every once awhile, his unpaid assistants.
Doke don't know how to shoot fts. UGLY aint no alibi, but it's ugly. Maybe we could ask the other team not to foul him. His FT's look like a pinball launcher. Pull it back and let the spring thingy push it off his palm.
DG filled the statbook. Where'd we be without him.
We don't have enough depth to survive an off night by Svi.
Newmie's coming along.
I taught at a hs with four great girls on their team and nobody else. Coach would tell the others to just stay out of the way and let the four very competent girls do their thing. This is what our team feels like when Garrett is in there.
The annual B12 swoon came a month early. We usually had to sweat this wrapping up the title thing in the middle of February, but it feels like it's close.
I know we're winning the top to bottom best league in the land but I don't have much confidence that this team has what it takes to win it all.
Preston's gone, I'm fine with it, wish I'd never heard his name to be honest.
Beat OU.
@Fightsongwriter Copy, paste
Wow, those unis on Silo Tech. Probably the ugliest uni I've seen since ..... never.

@KirkIsMyHinrich I don't know about the advanced stats, but it'd be interesting to know what they say about his performance.
Today or in general?
His conference advanced stats are okay in some areas and meh in others. 105 ORTG and 108DRTG are not great.
Everyone's DRTG for KU sucks in conference though, for obvious reasons.
Also these stats can be misleading. Mitch has a 136 ORTG in Big 12 play!!! He also has the third highest PER for us in league play. God bless Mitch.
Ha you missed what I said about not knowing the advanced stats. What I mean was I suck at math and ORTG/DRTG/PER are meaningless to me, but humor me at least and tell me what they mean!
@KirkIsMyHinrich He had some great battles with Kaminsky and Leuer and Hayes at UW. Really enjoyed watching him play. Purdue by the way is scary good this year.
@BeddieKU23 Really? Hummel did that game with Benetti? Hummel has been doing BTN games. Saw him the other night in Lincoln. He's really young and pretty good already I think.
@BShark Today actually.
@mayjay Just a season, we're going to buy a house within a few months and I will become the master of my domain, well, at least master of the remote! I'm finding actually I can watch every game I need to with my devices, project them to the TV.
@KirkIsMyHinrich I don't know about the advanced stats, but it'd be interesting to know what they say about his performance.
The annual big12 meltdown appears to be happening a month early this year.
@mayjay We are currently living with in laws, long story, but helping them manage old age. TV isn't always available to me, thus I rely on wifi which isn't always reliable here.
Dang ESPN3 cutting out at the wrong time.
My favorite baseball team announcer doing the OK game Jason Benetti. He'll be a household name by the time he's through with his career. Has CP, terrific wit, knowledgeable, plays well with his color guys.
By the way, I was reading through your comments Young's 46 aren't particularly impressive?
I liked what I saw at WVU in limited time.
Preston is the first recruit we've lost for an entire season at least in the last decade or so. And we don't this for sure, but he still could have been cleared to play. I can't take the time to investigate, but Kentucky lost a player for the whole season Ennis Kanter. That's more than we've lost.
@Gunman I agree but not sure that team would have danced anyways.
