16-6 RB advantage. Does it seem to people that Self told these guys to get out there and run tonight?

@fihsch You mean 88 championship T?

Weatherwax fanatics vs KU game thread • Jan 17, 2017 02:29 AM

I think ISU should change their name to the Cyclops.

Weatherwax fanatics vs KU game thread • Jan 17, 2017 02:28 AM

HOw did Bragg foul on that RB?

JJ, was my Hawk to rock even before he made that shot.

Weatherwax fanatics vs KU game thread • Jan 17, 2017 02:06 AM

I'd like to thank whomever played before us for making us not have to watch the end of their game.

ISU, you want to be big time, why did you give fans those stupid sticks?

Maybe our most valuable player. I shudder to think where we'd be without him.

Aaron Rogers • Jan 16, 2017 05:12 PM

I"m a pitiful Bears fans who hates the Packers. Cedric Benson was drafted by the Bears the year Aaron RODGERS was drafted by the Packers. One of many wasted draft picks by the Bears.

Gameday Thoughts • Jan 16, 2017 05:09 PM

@BeddieKU23 Nice post. Didn't realize I was double posting the same topic. I spent too much time writing mine to delete it and was concentrating on mine as you posted yours. All similar brilliant points between the same posts is not coincidental, it's the work of two geniuses analyzing the game to it's highest level of cognition!

Stop the Storming • Jan 16, 2017 03:10 PM

ISU has won 4 0f 6 against us.....but we've won 178 out of 241 against them.

Jesus was from Nazareth. Watch out for Nazareth. He's averaging almost 18 a game last 8 games.

ISU's 5 starters are all averaging at least 4 RB's a game. They have a 6'5" guard averaging nearly 7. He weighs 250. That's a jail guards body, not a basketball guard.

ISU has only 1 player on their roster from Iowa, but he is averaging 0.0 points per game.

ISU starts 3 kids from Wisconsin, more than the Badgers who start 1.

ISU is 83-8 in the last 8 seasons in Hilton.

If ISU wants to be considered a nationally prominent program they need to stop running on the court when they beat us every so often. Ditto WVU.

Little used Dwight Coleby has managed to foul out of 2 games.

(non basketball item I found fascinating this weekend) Warren Spahn won 363 games in his career and had 363 base hits in his career.

JJ leads the team in steals, and blocks. LL's shot blocking prowess he developed last year has taken a back seat to the need to avoid fouling and exposing our thin front line.

Shooting .413 as a team from 3 is amazing. What's more amazing is we were at 19% after two games shooting a high volume of threes.

I used to have a grudging respect for ISU when I was at KU. Johnny Orr was a classic old school coach that had Grayer, Hornaceck, Verge and others playing us tough.

But ISU's pitiful existence is trying to beat us every year. Beat KU and who cares what else happens. That is ISU basketball in my mind, because what else have they done nothing nationally, making 1 elite 8 with Fizer way back.

It looks like Prohm is imitating KU by playing 4 out and 1 in. All feelings for ISU at Hilton, it's a fascinating matchup. I think JJ will have plenty of room to operate and could have a big game.

Vick is our best FT shooter at 89%, 17-19.

Not sure if you've heard this before but Bill Self has lost 9 times at AFH. Would love to break that down to see how many top 10 teams that've come in but it's quite a few I'm sure. I know it's a road game tonight so that factoid is irrelevant to tonights matchup.

If you haven't had a chance listen to the Seth Davis podcast and listen to his interview with Larry Brown. Fascinating.

Basketball on MLK day. Living in the Deep South has exposed me much more to his influence and the work still to be done. Sports is a uniter among us. While hoops doesn't resonate here at all I'm always fascinated by those with underdeveloped attitudes about race,, about African Americans in particular, who will overlook all of that when those African Americans are wearing their favorite teams color out on the football field.

We are getting into that best part of the sports year for me. College hoops, NFL playoffs (sorry Chiefs fans), pitchers and catchers report in less than a month, college baseball at LSU's spectacular Alex Box stadium, March Madness, opening day and finally the Masters. The TV/DVR gets quite a workout here.

Josh vs, Officiating • Jan 15, 2017 03:21 PM

@REHawk Related to that in yesterdays game was the fascinating episode where OSU player was starting something with our guys and Forte puts his hand over the kids mouth to shut him up. That's great leadership!

Yes, Josh has matured even over the last couple of weeks. We all knew coming in the kid had a mouth on him. He had a rep as a trash talker. Glad he's trying to let that not be what he's known for here.

@ralster

I am rarely right on these things, but I do recall last summer saying I didn't understand why Bragg was getting all of the props over the summer. I don't know why national media thought he'd blow up into an AA over one off season. His freshman year he wasn't relied on like we thought we would need to this year, so he fit in as a nice little role player. He made some shots from midrange, but I always thought he had kind of an ugly flat shot.

Here's a way to tell what a kid is doing. Type his name into youtube. Very little there about his Kansas days, lots of HS highlights. Very little KU highlights. Maybe those who knew him well from HS secretly thought the same things, that he really isn't that skilled, just tall. That's what I'm beginning to think.

It's always fun to win, but seductive when we know that our wins are masking some problems with our team. I couldn't help but think that when we go to Manhattan, Stillwater and others that if they did this to us in our building, what will happen in theirs? I do think OSU played out of their minds. Missed FT's, particularly down the stretch turned a 12-15 point win into a 6 0r 7 point win.

@wrwlumpy Several have alluded to it, but it sure looks like game time is 1pm central. I might have missed it if I hadn't double checked.

Embiid can do it all • Jan 14, 2017 02:54 AM

Headline from tonights game: "Embiid sparks 76ers to 1st 3-game win streak in 3 years"

Looks pretty simple. Hold them under 80 where they're winless or allow them to score 80 plus where they haven't won.

Royals • Jan 13, 2017 05:52 PM

@globaljaybird Nice find! Great to read about former White Sox players!

I actually was in Kaufmann the day Bo got his 1st major league hit. It was against the White Sox and Steve Carlton believe it or not. Bo's first at bat he hit a long towering flyball over the top of the foul poll! The umpire had to make a judgment call on whether it was fair or foul. Bo was halfway to 3rd when the ump called it foul. The crowd went nuts!

His 2nd at bat he got his 1st hit, an unmemorable infield single.

His 3rd time up the Sox' lefty was throwing a nice game with the good guys up 2-0. Bo came up with no one out, and runners at 1st and 2nd. He came within an eyelash of grounding into a 5-4-3 triple play! I never saw a replay so I don't know how close it actually was, but it was close.

I also saw Bo once in Chicago at old Sox park and he caught a fly ball at the wall. He took one step and threw a strike to home plate! No one hop throw. It was too late to get the runner, but an amazing 350 foot throw.

FRANK MOVES UP IN POY • Jan 13, 2017 12:00 PM

Interesting that we talk about east coast biased player rankings but 2 of the top 7 players on that list are Frank and Josh.

Josh being on that list is a bit surprising to me. He's nice and all that, but not sure he's a c0ntender for player of the year.

Tevin Mack suspended indefinitely • Jan 12, 2017 10:27 PM

Kind of funny, but I've got tickets for KU-Texas in Austin which is 6 weeks away. Really looking forward to it, my first live Jayhawk game in 5 years. And now that Texas is imploding, I'm a little disappointed because I was hoping it'd be a competitive game against a good Texas team.

FRANK MOVES UP IN POY • Jan 12, 2017 08:11 PM

@BeddieKU23 Unbalanced Big1G schedule means Swanigan and Purdue don't visit Wisconsin this season. I kind of don't like that. I'm assuming that matchup turns in Madison.

FRANK MOVES UP IN POY • Jan 12, 2017 06:42 PM

@BeddieKU23 Kudos for putting Ethan Happ on your list! He's one of those unique type of players that UW seems to get. If any of you readers have never seen him, tonight 6pm against OSU, should be a gimmie for the Badgers. But watch Happs footwork. And then watch him steal the ball. For a 6'10" freshman to lead the Big10 in steals like he did last year, well it was one of the years more remarkable stories.

Elpoyo for the most predictable post of the year!

FRANK MOVES UP IN POY • Jan 12, 2017 04:31 PM

Josh Hart is shooting 38% from 3. He's a better rebounder, but he is 6'6". He's averaging fewer points and assists. So I don't know, it sounds to me like he's not doing as much for his team as Frank Mason is. I sometimes dislike discussions like this because I think Josh Hart is a great player too, but a side by side comparison favors Frank by a little bit.

As a Badger fan, watching Caleb Swanigan destroy us the last two years puts him right up there too. He's a beast inside.

Well possible problem • Jan 12, 2017 03:20 PM

A few years ago we were in the midst of an ice storm in Baton Rouge. LSU was scheduled to play Kentucky for an ESPN featured game. Kentucky was supposed to be great but that was the year they lost in the NIT. Anyways, I and a friend showed up knowing that most Cajuns were afraid of the icy roads, and they actually were icy. We went in and sat in vacant seats in the front row and witnessed the mild upset. Watching Kentucky lose is sweet!

My point is, when ESPN is calling the shots, which I assume they are Saturday, they'll do all they can to make KU play the game.

Is the game better? • Jan 12, 2017 03:15 PM

Read this article, pretty interesting in my view.

https://sports.yahoo.com/news/how-ncaa-rule-changes-have-made-college-basketball-as-watchable-as-ever-163253720.html ↗

The short version is Points per possession is up significantly since the new officiating emphasis and the shot clock change. PPP shouldn't change with a shot clock change unless something else changed. The writer thinks that the emphasis and adjustments of the officiating to call more has actually trained teams to foul less, FT rate is it's lowest in years, therefore giving offenses more opportunities to score the kind of points, FG's that crowds like to see.

As much as I/we complained over the officiating at the Indiana and Duke games, those prominent games have led to what we have now, increased scoring.

Your thoughts?

Track meet anyone?? • Jan 12, 2017 03:27 AM

@jayballer54 I went on the message board on the ESPN box score and left a comment mocking WVU fans for doing storming. They didn't take it too well!

Thoughts from the Game • Jan 11, 2017 08:01 PM

Landen played a nice game, both halfs. His totals at the half were on the way to the double double. As frustrating as the first half was, a lot of us were confident we'd get it going again. A few weren't. Some people can't handle a little adversity!

It was kind of interesting to see the officiating change. We couldn't buy a first half call. Shot 2 FT's. Never got into the bonus. OU was in double bonus by the end of the half. The whistles switched obviously in the 2nd. Remember at the end of the 1st half? Bill nearly got T-d up. He was thisclose. A few of the calls were a little sketchy in my mind but it's nice to benefit from them.

Speaking of benefiting from calls, Frank mauled a guy, took him down and didn't get called with a foul. Cracked me up because it was bad. But to our benefit.

But the game wasn't about referees, it was about not executing well one half and then executing the heck out of the game in the 2nd half.

@HawkChamp I haven't seen him since I looked at the KUSports live chat a year or two ago. He was chatting there.

@stoptheflop Doke isn't shooting 5 0r 6 of them every game is helping too.
