Respect to National Championship winning coaches in my book. Trent Johnson, not sure why he's up at 5, but to each his own. Shaka made an impression on me with his win against us. Drew seems to have competitive teams every year too, so he gets some kudos from me.

I'm trying to grade a pile of papers, watch the game and keep up with you guys. I think I'll quit my job right now. I'll have to figure out what to tell my wife just a few feet away.

@brooksmd Yep, and three consecutive errors, and ejection, and two bench clearing arguments, and another replay review, and a runner taking out the catcher on a slide, and etc. etc. It was quite the spectacle.

If the Rangers hadn't choked it up, that ball off the bat play would be talked about forever.

Nice! Man if Svi has improved that much he will be a part of this team I hadn't really thought of contributing a whole lot.

It'd be interesting to know if Selden was on this watch list a year ago. I'm still taking a show me approach to Wayne although his WUG did show us a lot.

@nuleafjhawk Well, I do try to not appear as a KU snob, so I'm happy to refer them as equals, even though they're not!

I will try to sway you with Cajun food, and there, well there's no comparison, right @brooksmd ?

Ladies And Gentlemen.... • Oct 09, 2015 05:22 PM

It's kind of funny to live in Louisiana, right near LSU, and compare LSU football with KU basketball. I'm not a snob. LSU football is every bit as big as KU basketball. But I had an argument if you will, with an LSU supporter about that very question. He told me point blank that LSU football is bigger than KU basketball. He couldn't accept that it was much more a side by side comparison where neither is bigger. He said the whole state follows LSU football, I said the entire state of Kansas follows KU hoops. He said they've got tradition, I filled him in on our storied history. He started talking about championships, again, everything he brought up I said it compares. These videos confirm what we know, there's few places in America that compare with KU basketball and I'm blessed to have been a part of it, as I'm blessed to see LSU football, which I think ranks below KU hoops of course!!

@jaybate-1.0 There's a lot of theological issues lying in this little discussion! I understand, lock em up, throw away the key. But that's not what saving faith is. That's not what grace is. That's not what God's love is. People have trouble coming to grips with it. I understand.

I used to be a Bible study leader in the prison where Jeffrey Dahmer was incarcerated and killed. Towards the end of his life, he made a change where he said he was a believer and was baptized. I know the chaplain who dealt with him. Now could he have been doing this just to gain some advantage? Obviously he might not have been sincere. But some/many of the people I attend services with each week are not sincerely, deep down in their heart believers either I don't think. (I'm glad I'm not the judge!) But to understand God's love, grace, and mercy means that even Dahmer could be residing in heaven right now, and certainly it means that Caron Butler, despite the obvious damage his crimes did to people, can turn his life around with God's help. Would you rather that you've never heard of Butler and that he'd be dead or in jail now before taking down a whole lot more people with him?

These are very real questions you are asking and I'm hoping that I'm explaining what can happen to the Caron's of this world.

My MLB playoff schedule rant • Oct 08, 2015 10:23 PM

@JayHawkFanToo @justanotherfan @Texas-Hawk-10

I really think baseball has let this happen. They have let the games go longer and longer. They have let the national media go ape crazy over east coast teams, to the detriment of midwest and western teams. I want to see a commissioner who fights for baseball to get it back to national respectability. Bud Selig let it lapse. It was still nationally relevant when he became commissioner and he just wanted to keep the owners happy, to heck with the fan. And they've got another puppet in there now.

My MLB playoff schedule rant • Oct 08, 2015 07:09 PM

@brooksmd I'm going up to Chicago this weekend actually, not an LSU fan anyways. Gonna hang with my kids for a few days.

My MLB playoff schedule rant • Oct 08, 2015 05:11 PM

Since a few people here show some interest in baseball, here's my rant against MLB, FOX, and ESPN.

The playoff schedule is out. If you haven't seen it, there are 2 games today, FOUR games Friday, TWO games Saturday, TWO games Sunday, and FOUR games Monday.

Anyone else see something wrong with this? Four games on Friday and Monday, starting at 12:30 Eastern time, you know when most Americans are working, and only two games on Saturday and Sunday, you know, when most Americans are not working, and presumably would watch multiple games all day long, NCAA tournament style.

Here's what's driving this insanity. MLB is scared to death of football. This is not an anti-football rant, but I tire of 12 months of football coverage that is now prevalent. MLB is afraid fans won't watch games if college football games or pro football games are on. So they back down and allow the network they pay the most to televise these games to tell MLB when the games will be instead of MLB saying to them here's when the games are going to be.

My biggest complaint is the relationship between MLB and Fox. Fox doesn't care one lick about baseball. They used to do a game of the week every Saturday, all season long. The only free baseball available for fans nationwide. Two years ago they launched their cable sports channel FS1. They moved the Saturday games to FS1, except for a few and treated the pennant race with little respect, so games with major watchability between attractive teams and playoff implications get relegated to cable. Not a great way to build your audience.

To add to the travesty that is Fox and MLB they won't even be televising games through this first round of playoffs, even on their FS1. The ALCS and NLCS get TBS and Fox/FS1 treatment. Unbelievable! MLB is committing suicide with this relationship.

ESPN is another player in this rant. They pretend to care, showing a game or two a week, but a week after the super bowl, as MLB players get to camp for spring training, ESPN starts talking about the draft, what players each team needs, they even have specials on it. No talk about baseball. Playoffs comes and ESPN does one measly game.

So try to watch tomorrow while at work, I know I can't, but I could a lot on Saturday and Sunday, but MLB doesn't want me to.

Kentucky Fan Encounter... • Oct 08, 2015 12:59 PM

@ralster

As a UW supporter I would remind him of the Kentucky's big cheap shot on Josh Gasser in the semifinals last year.

@jaybate-1.0

I'm going to invoke some religious discussion into this.

Caron has become a Christian since his days of crime as a youngster. Your view is one I've heard before and it's typical if people are thinking that our deeds are put on a balance, and if the good outweighs the bad then the person is going to be good for the coming judgment day. Thus, Caron, since he was arrested 15 times, that's way more bad so he can't ever be declared good.

But this is the mystery of redemption. A person, like the Apostle Paul, can do an awful lot of bad and then through God's grace, be redeemed and the past is erased.

That's why I can say this is a great story. A young driftless man has become a model citizen, and by virtue of his superb athleticism, can, unlike most of us not so similarly gifted, make a lot of money in the process.

I heard a great interview with Caron last week. He really overcame a lot of adversity in his life to become an NBA player. He was a drug dealer, in jail and out, broken family, all of that. Really inspirational story to hear how he has become a good NBA player with a pretty good reputation.

@BeddieKU23

All ill feelings towards Kentucky aside, (and there are many!) what a travesty. The kid is from the poorest country in or hemisphere, survives the earthquake and someone gets him here and either:

A. Uses Skal for his own personal gain as his guardian.

B. Has a legitimate heart for Skal and is just doing whatever he can in order to help him capitalize on his enormous potential

C. Somewhere in between. I don't know anything about this Thompson character, but my guess is if the NCAA is looking into the relationship it wasn't all good.

The HS in NY must have considered his coursework from Mali to be sufficient to let him graduate, so what's the problem?

Calipari is still trying to steal him away from us and is petitioning the NCAA to declare him eligible only for Kentucky.

The NCAA can't find Africa on a map

The NCAA is too busy trying to make Cheick puns

The NCAA is working on the tournament bracket for 2016 and trying to figure out how to get Duke to the championship game with the correct refs.

Most of the NCAA staffers working on the case realized they are also alums of Our Saviour New American Academy and are busy trying to make sure they're legal HS graduates.

They all went to Misery and therefore are incompetent methheaded, meatheaded, motorheaded, metalheaded fools.

They're all in a Phog

The committee is headed by my all time least favorite college coach Billy Tubbs who is still trying to figure out why he only played 6 guys against KU in that '88 championship game. He couldn't coach and he can't lead committees either.

They're watching youtube videos of those trick shot guys and are trying to duplicate the shots.

They've adopted this as their theme

Harm and malice intended

@Lulufulu I have no clue, I really don't pay attention to who wears what shoes! I just like to see what else they're wearing besides their shoes!

@ParisHawk Actually what I meant is Self allowed by Adidas to go out and sign a Nike kid? Has he done this before?

Sad to say, but is this even 'legal' in the terms of their contract?
