I must say @jaybate-1.0 this has been a great Diallogue today.
@RockChalkinTexas Sorry, got that one already! You should really cheick to see if someone has written something first :)
I hope he's aware of the new hand cheicks rules.
I can give you a PHOF on this entire thread!
Jesus said, "Turn the other Cheick"
Double PHOF!
To quote Stripes, "Cheickoslovakia? It's like going to Wisconsin."
His Daddy is Maurice Cheicks
The sub headline says this: "There might not be another team in the country as deep, talented and experienced as the Jayhawks." I'm really liking the sound of that. I'm not sure who this writer is. He projects Svi as a starter and Cheick as well.
Our experience with reliance on rookies in the last two seasons still makes me a bit uneasy about this very optimistic outlook. But I want to believe the optimistic outlook. I want Kansas to start winning games over quality opponents by 20 points again. I want Perry and Co. to develop a swagger that we haven't seen in Lawrence in a few years. I want to see KU's name on top of the rankings some weeks if not all weeks of the season. I want to hear KU's name mentioned on the short list of teams that have a chance to win it all.
So put my bi polar personality on the upswing. I can't wait for 2015-2016. A KU mini-dynasty is about to commence!
"Did you actually read the article". That's the comment that irked me. Don't worry, no biggy.
Maybe you could respond to someone without trying to make them feel stupid. That'll keep our board civil.
YES I READ THE STORY. I have an opinion. They're taking away the opportunity to play so Brown can maybe come there. That's the way I read it. In fact, it appears the way Dragnslayr introduced it that it seemed to him to be a little improper too, although I might be wrong.
I realized your point more in analyzing kids who leave school early than in where a kid decides to play. Drew Gooden is the best example of that. Roy would have won a title before UNC had he stuck around 1 more year. It was obvious we would have won that year. So, no, kids don't seem to care that much about it.
There are exceptions, see Wisconsin this year. Frank came back for a variety of reasons.
I'm not sure who the 4 of 10 recruits are you mentioned going to schools that didn't dance last year besides Michigan. Going to Michigan is a natural I believe because it's a power conference school that has a decent history, great fan support, great rivalry, etc.
So what else do we have for games? I know we've got the champions classic thing, I presume it's MSU since we've played Duke and UK in the last two. Who else? I don't remember.
Man, Michigan is ditching the kid who's been orphaned by two separate plane crashes? That's really low. I hope they get swept by Rutgers and lose every game next year. I've had some respect for Beilein but not now.
@wrwlumpy Aha! I see what you did there! PHOF!
What's interesting is that many schools, if they were reading our posts, would say what are KU fans doing complaining about recruiting? I mean, every year we get our share of top notch guys. If we pick up another guy in the next few weeks, then we'll have a top 5 recruiting class and be a bonafide contender for the NC, not just the league. I don't think anyone's crying for us!
We're playing in the Maui tournament too, correct? Jaylen Brown, your plain is boarding!
I'm not sure to be honest. If Cliff was eligible would we have beaten Wichita? Not with the infamous abandoning the 3 ball.
If Joel was playing would we have beaten Stanford? Probably, but we lost 10 games that year, so who knows? I don't think any of us thought that was a NC contending team.
Check back in a year to see how this all has worked out. I'm excited he chose us because we need depth up front. Obviously two years of getting really excited over recruits signing with us has yielded nothing but 2nd round exits
The question is, can we turn him into a 2AD or 3AD?
The best case scenario with this is he teams with Bragg to create a front line that frees up Perry on his way to All American status and leads us deep into March and April.
Next best case is he and Bragg stick around and develop, and in 2016-2017 with a seasoned backcourt, a scary good backcourt with Mason, Graham, Selden, Greene, and whoever else comes along makes this the odds on favorite to win the whole thing with Self's best team in many years.
Worst case, see March 2014, March 2015.
Sox game cancelled again in Baltimore.
How the Indians prepared for their game last night.
Sox O's cancelled by riots. I was really looking forward to watching it too. @MoonwalkMafia we need to find one more Sox fan and we can equal the three Royals fans here and go at it!
Need to end this nonsense. Barefoot NCAA basketball will now be the rules of the game.
I guess I don't mind getting another great recruiting class, but the whole OAD thing hasn't made me too excited about getting any of these guys unless they'll stick around for a few years.
@JhawkAlum Hate me? I'm still a Jayhawk fan!
Nice catch by Gordon though. Wow! Nice grab by Cabrera too to preserve the victory!
Oh I disagree. I think the rotation will be strong with Quintana, Sale and Samardzjia. Danks provides enough and Noesi will have some good starts and bad. Rodon looks like he'll be in the pen for a while. I will be disappointed if they're only at .500. I think 10-15 over .500 is possible.
The teams investment in talent is starting to pay off a little. 8-5 since the poor start.
@MoonwalkMafia You a Sox fan?
Sox sweep :)
I remember a premature 'hey hey' where he had to add 'it's not a homerun' after the hey hey!
I cheered for the Flubs through 1984 and their near championship run that year. But I got turned off by the Cub fans crawling out of the woodwork and driving up ticket prices there and really ruining the Wrigley experience. Before that season baseball at Wrigley was casual, quaint, 10 or 15 thousand of you and your friends showing up. No sellouts, no harry singing. Just baseball in a great park.
The championship was great obviously and totally unexpected. I've been a Sox fan since the late 1970's and really, other than 1983 (hence my screen name) it's just never been in my mind that the Sox would ever win a world series.
@VoyagingJayhawk I've had that regret for 25 years of boring Comiskey II.
Come to my classroom of HS freshmen and I'll expose the supposed non harmful effects of pot. Many of my kids smoke, and while there are also other factors contributing to their being years behind academically, pot and it's impact on the cities is clearly demonstrable. See you in E507 Monday morning at 7:10!
Just reported, the continuation of last nights game and todays regularly scheduled game cancelled due to rain in the rainy city. Bummer.
My first ball game was in old Yankee stadium, the real house that Ruth built. I was just a kid, but remember it just like Billy Crystal did in City Slickers.
@VoyagingJayhawk I didn't see your post until after I read yours. I think your gramps and I must have talked!
Making me homesick. I actually hate that stadium. The old stadium was a baseball palace that was fun for everyone who went there. The only guy who didn't like it was the owner. He said not long after it opened that there's not a bad seat in the house. Well, the first time I was there I sat in the upper deck way out by the foul pole. We were so high up in the sky that you really had no reliable perspective on batted balls. A few years back they cut off the top 8 rows of the ballpark because fans hated it up there so much.
To add insult to injury they faced the stadium to the south side, which at the time was dominated by the worlds largest housing project, the Robert Taylor homes. When they were building the place they were actually finding bullet holes in the upper deck seats! They should have faced it towards downtown which isn't far away and the view would have been glorious. I still love the Sox, but the stadium is still a sore spot!
Also interestingly the year after Sox park opened, Camden Yards opened. It was spectacular. Somehow the same architectural firm designed both places.
If they had faced it downtown this is the view that fans would have had, which actually comes from the ramps on the north side of the stadium.
@globaljaybird So when a pitcher hits a guy in the head, even if it's accidental, they guy should be suspended or whatever? I don't agree. Some pitchers lose pitches. Herrera appeared to be throwing at the guy. That's way different. Improve the technology, don't penalize pitchers for accidents. Just my opinion.
@Crimsonorblue22 If Eaton mouthed off first, why wasn't he ejected? Again, I wasn't watching live, just saw some lowlights, but he'd been ejected if he started it, no?
I seriously doubt Sales was trying to hit Moose in the head. He's too much of a competitor to put a guy on base in a one run game. I didn't see it live, I just saw sportscenter this morning. But it was an ugly mess of a game.
@brooksmd My son and daughter live in Chicago. I don't consider them sewer rats, although I consider Ventura a sewer rat. This is three teams that hothead has engaged in brawls. I don't mind an occasional dustup in baseball, but this is getting old as we're only three weeks into the season.
Just got home. Another brawl? What's with the Royals?
@Jayrawks1 That sounds like a lot of people to support. I hope he's got some handlers who are advising him on how not to become another bankrupt NBA player. I saw something on Antoine Walker recently on how he blew 80 million bucks, and a lot of it was due to supporting other family members.
@nuleafjhawk If you could look at that list and say I wish so and so had stuck around, who on there would it be the most for you?
For me, just because I think we would have had one of college basketball's all time great teams in 03 if he had stuck was Drew Gooden. He plays more that year, Simien maybe less as a young'un, doesn't get hurt, wow, we might have run the table that year!
Points/Rebounds/Assists
Cole Aldrich NY 5.5 5.5 1.2 Came on strong at end of season including a 24 and 15 effort in last game of season.
TRob 5.7 5.6 .6 Since trade to Philly his averages were nearer to a double double, about 9 and 8.
Pierce 11.9 4.7 2.0 Still playing in playoffs. We'll be proud some day when he enters the Hall.
Gooden 5.4 4.4 1.0 A real enigma. Still in playoffs with Paul
Kirk 5.7 1.8 2.2 Hurt but still in playoffs, should play if they move on. In twilight of career it appears.
Withey 2.6 1.7 .5 blocks. Had some productive games when Davis was hurt, but jury is out on whether he has staying power in the league.
Mario 10.2 2.4 3.8 Career hi in pts, lower assists. Arrival of Dragic cut his minutes.
BRush Averages under 1.0 Barely played on very good Warriors team. Was a great reserve before serious knee injury a few years back.
Darrell 6.6 2.9 1.0 Solid reserve for Nuggets.
Wiggins 16.9 4.6 2.1 Exciting player who improved greatly on an obviously bad team. Only 2 single digit games since Christmas. Future star it appears.
BMac 12.7 2.9 1.7 Improving. My favorite Jayhawk of recent years.
Tarik 6.0 5.9 .7 Trade to lakers helped him to blossom. Surprised me to be honest.
Markieff 15.3 6.2 2.3 Hopefully arrest doesn't derail his career. His best season so far.
Marcus 10.4 4.8 1.6 Hopefully arrest doesn't derail his career. His best season so far. It's like these guys are twins.
Collison 4.4 3.8 1.1 Does a lot of little things that don't show up in box scores, but is a valuable sub. There you go @approxinfinity. Thanks for pointing that out. I always check his box scores, surprised I forgot it here.
I think I have it covered. Probably Bill Self's best year of players in the pros since he's been here.
Our commander in chief is a Sox fan. I take pride in that although Bush has much better form. Obama kind of has a sissy throw.
@nuleafjhawk What about PF Fliers? Those were the shoes I always wanted and would have signed with Kentucky if they had promised me a pair!
I kind of admire his moxie. He's telling the NCAA and the NBA your eligibility rule is dumb and I'm going to exploit it to show it's dumb. We fault a kid who just wants to play ball and make a fabulous living and who doesn't want to go to college.
White Sox are looking like KU in the last few weeks of the season. Not good :(
