Warriors or Cavaliers? • May 29, 2015 04:40 AM

I want Cleveland for the sake of very long suffering Cleveland fans who haven't experienced a championship of any sort since before many of us were born. I could look it up, but I'm pretty sure it's before I was born in 1964.

It was a horrible blow for that city, no not when the Cuyahoga caught fire, but when the Browns left town and became the Ravens who then won a championship just a few years later. The Indians were close in '97, and I think Lebron got them to the finals once also early in his career.

On the same token, the Bay area has been awash in championships with baseball winners in recent years and even the Niners success of the 80's and 90's. Enough already, let another city win!

I do like this Golden State team however. Pretty amazing.

And although I don't personally have strong feelings one way or the other about Lebron, my goodness. What an amazing talent! No Kevin Love, no Irving for part of the Bulls series, and yet here they are, knocking on the door. I know people for whatever reason like to pick Kobe over Lebron, I for the life of me can't figure out why. Lebron is the greatest since MJ who was the greatest since Wilt who remains the greatest of all.

MEMORIAL DAY FLOODING • May 28, 2015 03:45 AM

Ya'll hang on. Pretty intense couple of weeks of weather in this country. We survived a Memorial Day weekend of Chicago violence, 12 dead apparently. We're going to Yellowstone Saturday and it's been snowing there!

So are we done? • May 26, 2015 01:18 PM

It'd be kind of funny if no one signed him after his 1/2 year statement.

On the other hand, if he's telling the truth, as HEM pointed out, playing 1 and 1/2 seasons is a little more intriguing, but I also say I'll believe it when I see it.

Off-Season Pop Quiz • May 23, 2015 02:26 AM

@drgnslayr

  1. How about don't know, but I really don't follow recruiting much.

  2. Neither. We've had so much rain, I might go fishing in the yard.

  3. Probably The Blues Brothers

  4. I'm liking our chances in 2016 but only because of my dumb every election year something exciting happens since Self arrived theory.

They should have vacated the first for letting Sean May push Illini defenders out of the way like a snow plow on his way to MOP status.

I don't know what to think of taking away titles a decade after they were won. What does it prove? There should be a statute of limitations.

Cliff mystery revealed • May 23, 2015 12:39 AM

@JayhawkRock78 I've never heard you state this before, but I agree. Agents are ruinous to a lot of lives. Cliff is actually fortunate in that he probably will make money playing basketball. How many agents have convinced a kid to go pro after one year whom none of us have ever heard of? It was even worse when a kid could go pro out of HS. You'd hear about kids declaring for the draft and you'd just know they had no chance to go pro.

Parents have some responsibility also, but it's remarkable how many kids do make it out of similar situations to Cliffs without their parents or themselves messing it up.

Cliff mystery revealed • May 22, 2015 11:44 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 You're right. With all of the high praise coming for our team next year, with Cliff it'd be even more so.

My last day of school tomorrow, then......!!

Cinn vs Royals Game 2 @ the K • May 21, 2015 02:19 AM

Watching the Sox on my computer. They've climbed back to .500 thanks to the A's awful defense mainly over the weekend.

Cinn vs Royals Game 2 @ the K • May 21, 2015 02:03 AM

What's up fellas?

Read this on several sources.

This is a new low. This confirms all the negative thoughts I've had about Kentucky. This actually makes me feel sorry for the one or two dozen Kentucky fans who are not insane drooling cave dwellers and actually think rationally. (I think I heard some of them exist)

If our coach pulled a similar stunt we would ask for his head, I don't care how good he might have been.

Kentucky ought to be given the death penalty just for being so brazen in ruining the spirit of college basketball. Come to think about it the NCAA has been trying to ruin the spirit of college basketball for years.

Kentucky will now be more hated than Duke.

Kentucky will now be more hated than the Yankees.

CBS and ESPN might actually say something bad about them but I doubt it.

I hope we beat them 151-90 next January just to one up the score in 1989.

The myth of the mid-range jump shot • May 19, 2015 01:47 PM

I know this dates me just a little, but the Grant twin that played for Oklahoma in the 1980's, Harvey, I think, was just deadly with the mid range jumper. I never thought it was overrated every time he made one against us.

Vick commits • May 18, 2015 01:17 AM

@dylans

Great news! I don't get this whole reclassify thing, but obviously it's a trend now and if it helps us out, and young Mr. Vick, then great!

6-5, 175 sounds a bit skinny though. We'll have to set him up with Ms. Hudy for a few sessions!

@HighEliteMajor I know you're trying to be funny, I think, but I took it as more of the repentant sinner seeing the light and wanting to come out of the darkness into the light. I took it as an honor that he would want to come to KU!

@JayHawkFanToo The article says playing this year, that's what had me a little puzzled.

Comments? Article seems to indicate he is available to play next season. No stats given but he was once highly touted.

Cliff and Frank the Tank • May 17, 2015 05:44 PM

@HighEliteMajor

I latched onto the part where they looked at Cliff's PPM, RPM, etc. and how it compared to Towns. We spent a lot of time wondering why he wasn't playing more.

Cliff and Frank the Tank • May 17, 2015 02:01 PM

Interesting story comparing Cliff to Frank. It doesn't dog on Cliff much at all which is nice. I hope he turns out well obviously.

Bombers vs Royals Game 2 minutes away • May 17, 2015 02:21 AM

I guess you all left?

Bombers vs Royals Game 2 minutes away • May 17, 2015 02:07 AM

Hi guys, hows your game going?

I'm still here so something is definitely weird about this site!

New Rules changes • May 16, 2015 05:57 PM

Baseballs biggest problem isn't the strike zone, it's the fricking length of games which they are finally addressing, but the games are apparently getting shorter.

Yesterday Sox A's 3:35

Wash-SD 2:46

Dodgers-Rockies 3:35

BOsox-Sea 2:32!!

TB-Minn 2:29!!!

Royals 3:12

Cards-Tiggers 3:20

And get this Cubs-Pirates 5:01 for 12 innings which absolutely ridiculous.

So some games are speeding up, but there still are a lot of slow games.

As for the college rule changes, it appears like there's some measures there to speed up its games, which I don't understand. I rarely get finished with a college game and think 'finally, it's over' (unless we're waiting to watch KU!)

So if the fewer timeouts will quicken the college game then add a few more minutes, let's say, 4 more. The games will still be over in a reasonable time period, so play a few more minutes. I'm guessing advertisers and broadcasters might miss the extra timeouts anyways.

I think the adjustment of very deliberate teams will be the most acute. I know one of the strengths of a Wisconsin or Virginia team offensively is they tend to wear down a defense. They make them work hard on defense for 30-35 seconds waiting for a lapse and then they hit them with an easy bucket. Those teams will have to adjust, which I trust they will.

UK vs KU in Big 12/SEC Challege. • May 15, 2015 11:58 AM

@VailHawk

I'd like to see us play them. It was interesting last week. I attended two LSU-Misery baseball games and talked with a Miserable fan. He said that he'd heard the two schools were talking about renewing the rivalry. It was news to me, and I doubt it too as I follow what's going on pretty closely here on my official KU sports news source KUBuckets!

UK vs KU in Big 12/SEC Challege. • May 15, 2015 03:11 AM

So does this mean KU will play Kentucky every year in this thing? I mean who else would ESPN want to see more than the two K's?

Nice matchup for the middle of the season. Can't wait. I don't know what our consecutive home court streak sits at, but it will likely be on the line that day.

SPORTING NEWS PICKS KU AS NATIONAL CHAMPS. • May 14, 2015 05:32 PM

It's really amazing to see the transformation of this team from their uninspiring finish to the season to being at or near the top of most lists of top teams going into next season.

I see some parallels between ISU and Wisconsin. ISU has at least been competitive for decades, but UW wasn't until Michael Finley came to town in 1993 and the team danced a year later for the first time in 4 decades. A fluke FF in 2000 and then a short moribund period and then Bo arrived. For his first decade not many knew about UW. They didn't have that vibe of being a team that really had a chance other than to win consistently and get to the 3rd round of the tourney every so often.

But soon the recruits began to recognize that you can win a lot of games in front of a passionate fan base. And the level of recruits increased substantially to the way they are now. If Fred stays in Ames I believe the same thing will happen.

I was going to comment again on this thread, but I realized it's just the old guys commenting, so I'll defer to my elders.

Speaking of which, for someone who doesn't follow every recruiting angle. We still have schollies available, right? What's it looking like? Any gems in the rough still out there? I just saw the Badgers picked up a 6'11" Euro pro, who actually played as an amateur. While I'm excited about that, what about us? Who're we still after? I don't necessarily want Thon, but, is there any chance he comes? I'm excited for next season. We're sitting pretty good but need more, more, more!!!

Go for it!

Royals vs Rangers Game 1 of 4 • May 12, 2015 02:24 AM

I'm venting over here. Sox fight back from a 6-0 deficit. Tie it up at 7 against the pitiful brewcrew. Bottom of the 8th we give up three runs. I just might become a Royals fan before this is all said and done. Just disgusting. Go royals gag, cough, agh, ugh....

Offseason is too long • May 11, 2015 10:19 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I'd watch if I can, but I'm definitely a technology dinosaur. No smart phone either. We stay at a summer house that has no internet either, which is fine!

Offseason is too long • May 11, 2015 07:26 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

As my post said, I won't be near (which isn't a bad thing) anyplace I'd be able to watch!

Offseason is too long • May 11, 2015 05:47 PM

No offense to any of my friends here, but I'm not looking forward to 6 months of talk about how our upcoming season is going to go.

After two early exit, disappointing season, I am just ready to get this season going again.

Again, no offense, but I really don't care who is going to start and where because we don't know what
is in coaches mind. We don't know how these guys are practicing. We really don't know what their injuries are unless they're made public. We really don't know what a potential recruit is going to do until he signs, because they're just kids.

Sigh.... I just want the season to start! I won't be near a cable system that will allow me to watch the WUG, or the warmup games in KC.

This is what's wrong with losing early in March. We are left with too long of an offseason with too much negative energy left over from the previous one. Had we pulled it together and got to the final weekend, well the offseason is just much shorter in my view.

November, while I certainly don't want another glorious summer to pass too quickly, can't come soon enough! Now if the Sox were looking like a worthy challenger to the Royals, then the offseason goes more quickly. But right now, we're dead in the water.

Let's go calendar, keep flipping those pages along! RCJHKU!

I see ya'll were talking about me. I did my part this weekend and went to Alex Box Friday and Saturday night and watched LSU take down misery. I actually spoke to some misery folks, and since they were undoubtedly parents of a player I was nice(r) to them than I normally would have been.

Non-Con slate is out • May 08, 2015 09:11 PM

Hoping for a KU at LSU game right @brooksmd?

Could this spawn competitors? The Chicago Gunners, the Denver Potheads, etc.? I mean if one guy can do it, why wouldn't someone else say they want in on this action? And to compete, they'll offer 800,000 to their Micky d players. Then the next one says, come here and I'll give you a million?

I know I wouldn't watch at all. Part of the very small allure of the Dleague is at least those guys are former college players I've watched and remembered.

But hey, this is the USA. Free enterprise will do it's thing and maybe the guy has an idea that will work.

It's bound to happen someday. There will be a year sometime when we watch some other team gleefully earn league bragging rights. ISU has beaten us 4 of the last 6 times we've played them I think. They know they're in our heads a little bit now.

But it probably won't happen. It kind of reminds me of the Big 8/12 in football. This is mainly the days of Nebraska/Oklahoma domination. OSU would start out the year on fire. People would talk like this is the year they'll knock the big 2 off their perch. And then OSU would play OU, home or away, didn't matter, and OSU would get beat, usually destroyed by either or both of the big 2. ISU reminds me of that team. They have the opportunity to knock us off our perch and then they go to TTech or TCU and get destroyed.

But it is bound to happen someday. A really bad year for injuries, there's a bad seed in the program that gets us on probation, who knows, but it will happen someday.

Or maybe it won't.

I'm not sure Wigs is saying it'll help to lose the conference championship. I, like he, and HEM to name a few would trade all of these conference championships for a few more rings, that's all.

Is Andrew Wiggins Really Good? • May 02, 2015 10:27 PM

@sfbahawk Interesting concept. I don't follow the NBA closely enough, but I wonder how many first year out of college players won ROY? He's still extremely young and if comparing him to rookies all the way back to 1973 I think they have to realize that rookies back then were 3-4 years older than Wigs. To do what he did as a 19-20 year old is remarkable I believe.
