@RedRooster Of course you know I was kidding! And wow, you read every post? Amazing!
I was wrong to think @Redrooster upvotes every post. He missed one of mine the other day!
I was wrong to think wrwlumpy was Tom Keegan.
I was wrong to think @jaybate-1.0 was Dr. Smith from Lost in Space
I was wrong to think @HighEliteMajor was Jesse Newell, he's just his twin.
I was wrong to think @drgnslayr was the guy on the Dos Equis commercial.
I was wrong to think @VailHawk was our representative to the ski community
I was wrong to think @brooksmd was a cat lover.
I was wrong to think @KUSTEVE was Jethro.
I was wrong to think @Crimsonorblue22 is on here 24/7.
I read over that list. Some strange things. No Kentucky, USC and The Ohio State University. They must (?) have some other licensing agreement. I can't imagine Delaware sells more than OSU.
When we had our stellar floor seats at an LSU game a few weeks ago, (the night we met Shaq and got punched by boxer Roy Jones Jr.) my wife and I ended up on the big screen. I had my Jayhawk hat on and took it off and held it out for the camera to see. Just doing my part!
@jaybate-1.0 PHOF!
I really don't know anything about property taxes around here. To me everything seems cheap when compared to where we used to live. Her house is in an unincorporated area, just off of Scenic highway. So sure, come on over! I'll finally have someone to watch games with!
I saw that on CBS Sunday morning. Great story.
Since 2001 KU has had a #4 or better seed in the tourney EVERY year, 14 seasons and about to become 15. In fact in 23 of the last 25 tournaments since our tourney streak began we've been seeded at least 4th. We had a 6 and an 8th in there besides those.
Maybe this is why people say we're always getting upset in the tourney!
By the way Duke's streak of #4 or better is only 7 years and they have the 2nd best streak going.
We are Jayhawk proud, we are Jayhawk nation.
Southern womens 2nd brawl of the season, although it appears that Texas Southern was the instigator in that incident. It's being talked about a lot in the papers here in Baton Rouge unfortunately. Southern doesn't need any more negative publicity but unfortunately they're getting it.
Maybe Billy Gillispie could coach there?
Here you go. I drive right by the recently passed Donna Douglas' house every day on the way to and fro work. It's for sale, and yes, it has a CEEEment pond! I'm sure @KUSteve has been to this house!
The crowd they were showing during the WVU game last week was amazing. At one point they showed the student section that appeared to go from the floor to the ceiling. They were jumping, acting pretty crazy and it was all of them. Pretty cool to see.
He came into the league at a good time. The league is down this year. He only had to play Wisconsin at home which he handled well of course. As a Badger fan I sure don't mind him getting this award.
Does anyone know if the story about Turgeon is true? I've heard that as a freshman at KU he went into Browns office and told him he was the best point guard on campus. Brown had never heard of him, but gave him a chance and the rest is history.
By that kid I mean the student who ran on the floor into Jamari.
"I wish Jamari had knocked that KState kid to the floor"
I'm not much on our knicknames. Who is Dblock? The link didn't open for me.
I wish that I'd told Brannen to grow up before the season started.
I wish I'd given Hunter and Landon more PT
I'm glad that I know how to recruit under the radar point guards like Frank and Devonte
The regular season is over. Finish the quote.
It also can be "I'm Bill Self and I'm glad that...."
I know nothing about gambling so 1-1 odds means don't even bother placing a bet on them, right? The way I see 1-1 means you can't win and you can't lose?
@Lulufulu I like your pick!!
@Crimsonorblue22 I thought I'd just read that Huggy won it. Must have been another news outlet.
Best Technical benefitting KU. OU's Cousins T against ISU when they were winning by 20. The fool fueled ISU's stunning rally helping us win another league championship.
Should've been a T. Saturday, when another OU fool, Khadeem Graham 6'9" blocked Graham 6'2", and while his teammates were racing up the court turns to the crowd styling and prancing and showing off. 2 more points for KU on technical FT's might have been beneficial, don't you think?
TRob actually had a monster game against Kentucky, 18 points and 17 boards!
I always enjoy watching the tourney. We get 2-3 more games to watch. Nothing wrong with that as a fan. To me the only real drawback is injury. Ask any Cincinnatti fan about that. If memory serves correctly Kenyon Martin broke his leg in the conference tourney when Cincy had a reasonable chance to make the final four.
To see us having to play the winner of KS and TCU illustrates our leagues quality top to bottom. I don't think we'd be surprised if TCU beat us seeing as how tough they played us both times this year. KSU beat us once of course, and that's just the quarterfinals.
It's not a great predictor of success in the dance of course. Quarterfinal loss in '88 didn't hurt us too badly and a dominating performance in 08 led to greatness.
@jaybate-1.0 I've been reading your stuff for a decade now I suppose. You're one of my KU heroes. But my eyes glaze over when you start writing stuff like "SHOECO-AGENCY COMPLEX dynamics" because I really don't have a clue what you're talking about.
Put it in simple terms. Why isn't Mickelson playing?
@KUSTEVE do you think a lack of Danny Manning on the bench will handicap this team in March? To me, that's one of the differences between our team now and then.
"No I really dont think its overly optimistic. Last years team went 3-3 the last 6 games too and they folded to Stanford. Nothing about this years team says fold to me. Nothing."
I don't follow that logic.
So Hunter is not playing more because of shoes and it somehow affecting future recruiting? Really JB?
@Lulufulu What about 3-3 in the last 6 games makes you think we're really going to do well in the tourney? What about 3-3 makes you think we won't fold to a UK team? I like your optimism but it might be a tad bit overly optimistic, don't you think?
@drgnslayr Watching yesterday I was trying to conjecture how we'd be doing against OU with a full squad. For some reason we just can't say we lost by two with 3 1/2 guys missing so we'd probably win by 10 otherwise.
@KUSteve I really like your enthusiasm! 2012 all over again? I'd take that. I hope you're right. I have a feeling more like we could be repeating any of our 1st weekend losses.
Best comeback: KU vs. WVU
Best comeback that didn't involve KU ISU against OU
Worst call: Staten travel
POY: Perry
Best guard: Mason
Best forward: Traylor
Best Center: Lucas
Best Ukrainian: Svi
Best Freshman: Oubre
Best Sophomore not named Mason: Selden
Best Dunk: Cliff
Most missed dunks: Selden
Best flex: Cliff
Best flex that led to the dumbest technical: Cliff
Worst rebounder: Jamari
Best rebound: Michaelson yesterday
Best Coach: Self
Dumbest assistant: Snacks
Best manager: KU's
Worst athletic supporter: zinger or whatever his name is who made sure people in Louisiana can see more KU games that people in Kansas.
Worst example of communist NCAA: Handling of Cliff
Best example of communist NCAA: Taking on Boeheim.
Worst team: 9 way tie for every team in the league that couldn't snatch the league title from us when we were most vulnerable.
He suggested to coach that they might want to go inside out a bit more.
It's kind of funny. I, like most of you wasn't expecting too much from our team. Mentally I was prepared to lose.
And then for the 2nd time in a few weeks we let a kid go coast to coast (I know Staten travelled) right to the hoop and we lose and I was upset by it.
@HighEliteMajor is right. Some say who cares if we lose in the conference tourney? We're Kansas, we want to win, expect to win, should win any game we play. Maybe for a banged up team fewer games between now and the dance might give us time to heal up, but it might also lead to us stagnating.
Too bad Cliff just didn't keep the Illinois hat on.
That' idiot is playing to the crowd while the ball is going back down court. Self would kill a guy for doing that.
Lucas 7pts 7 rbs
Why wouldn't that be an offensive RB?
Fran's son plays for OU, might impact his calls on this telecast.
How does Landen miss that shot?
Anyone know how many threes in a row we've missed? 2 so far today, 15 the other day, 1-8 last week against Texas, but I forget when it came in that game.
@Crimsonorblue22 I don't think of him as great, merely as good, competent, able to get the team dancing. I think he took Florida to the FF one year if memory serves correct.
The announcer called Kruger one of the games greats. Agree? Disagree?
My son arrived home from Chicago for spring break an hour ago, and he's gone now with friends. I hope we see him again before he goes back to school
That is Bruce Hornsby's son that made the game winner for LSU.
@brooksmd Wow is right, bring on the Jayhawks!!
Yes, with two teams to follow, there's no way I'll become an LSU fan, but my son does attend there, so I do have to pretend to like them I guess!
If their two stud forwards Martin and Mickey stick around for another year they'll have a nice mix of outstanding youth and experience. They could start the year in the top 10.
@brooksmd I went to the game the other night against Tennessee. LSU laid an egg big time.
Looks like we might need Garret to start another game.
And I know nothing much about computers beyond KUBuckets!
I respectfully disagree. If a conference has good/great teams they're going to make it to deep into the dance and the facts as others have shown here don't support the fact that this conference has been very well represented on its' last weekend.
Another way to view it is KU has consistently a great team. Great teams make it to the FF, not every year of course, but do make it 4 times in this millenium like we have. If this league had other great teams, there'd be other big 12 teams with multiple final fours.
These things are the problems with computers. They're obviously extremely color blind and unbiased. We've all talked about the ridiculousness of KU being 1 in the RPI. We can also see the ridiculousness of placing KU behind teams we lead by at least two games in the conference.
What becomes a little problematic is that does the committee look at these things? I'd guess they do.
I'm sure someone at Dukebuckets.com is also discussing the same thing as we are. How can they be #8?
You could phrase that as two titles in less than 30 years. Go back another year before 03 and you can add Oklahoma to your final four list from the league.
@HighEliteMajor I think Oklahoma State made it one year after we did in 03. Was Texas' last appearance with us in 03?
The heyday, if you can call it that, of the Big12 was the first half of the last decade. Oklahoma, us, OSU, Texas all in the final four.
I'm not sure any major power out there is wishing/praying/hoping that they don't get a big 12 team in their bracket this year. Now I'm not saying we can't with a lot of teams, because I think the league will probably get two or three teams into the sweet 16 or elite 8. But beyond that it's going to be a more flukey thing in my opinion.
@bskeet I think we've done that a few times and I also think we've been nearly vicitimized by it as well.
