I think the formula used by ISU last week will work. Let them blow us out going into the 2nd half and then come back and beat them by 10.
Maybe it'll take going to one of the worst teams in the league for him to find his niche. I certainly hope so.
Speaking of TRob, look what his teammate did in warmups. You might recognize him.
https://vine.co/v/OEKxv2pHlmj ↗
TRob is working on a double double right now in only 15 minutes of play. He's averaging 9 points and 7 boards since coming over to Philly
Several times during the article, and it was very long, were the statements "and that's a fact".
I"m no journalistic expert, but when someone writes something like that, you probably can say it's not a fact, it's either a possible fact, or it's a lie.
The more a story is repeated the more likely it is to become fact, so if we keep repeating this....!
I think you just hit on a new insult. Call someone a Weber.
I can forgive you for being a Cub fan too, although I have usually held them and the Packers in the same rung of sports hell with Missouri.
@nuleafjhawk There aren't 4798 bowl game$. I told you a million time$ not to exaggerate.
I hope Kentucky becomes the first 1 seed to lose to a #16 seed.
Interesting article here. Not sure if I agree with Perry as #1. What do you think of his rankings?

@wrwlumpy Do you think the KU faithful would be ready for a coach that is perfectly willing to win games by the score of 48-43? I think he's an excellent coach with a nice coaching pedigree. I'm just not sure KU would want that style of play to come to Lawrence.
No, I'm not logical. Read what @JayhawkRock78 wrote on his post last, that's what I responded to.
@JayhawkRock78 Oh I understand. Ever since Danny made me a very happy 1988 graduate I've had a bromance with him too!
@JayhawkRock78 Works for me, I wasn't trying to be difficult, just wondering why you so overwhelmingly favored Danny.
@JayHawkFanToo I wasn't asking why the vote for Self, I was questioning him why he'd take Manning 10 out of 10 times.
@JayHawkFanToo That's helpful. Thanks
@Crimsonorblue22 True that
Wish I had seen this post yesterday, but somehow I'd missed it.
Here's the part of the game that was beautiful to me. 2nd half defense. No one seems to notice defense very much except the blocked shots. But, WVU scored 19 points after scorching our D in the first half. (they added a dimes worth more in the OT) Much of that was because they couldn't even get shots off because of steals and other TO's. It was amazing how many empty trips the mteers had.
Obviously that D was toughness that you mentioned. It wasn't offense. We never had a flow. It was gutting it out on D which led to some breakout hoops and a lot of FT's and a more than a few Higgy hissy fits.
It's a cool honor, but I fear injury.
I think you mistake my point on Gottlieb. I don't really care what he or any other announcers say. Sure I listen, but I don't care. I should've used my sarcasm font when I said I hate him after the kaminsky comment I guess.
I apologize for the Badger updates and appearing to be a Big 10 troll. I grew up in Big 10 country, in Chicago, really didn't know Kansas had a tradition laden team until I enrolled there, then moved to Wisconsin where I lived a long time. I love Kansas, KU, Jayhawks, etc. I don't spend hours a day on Badgerbucketts.com or anything like that. I do cheer for the Big 10, and to be honest, would have been happy if Cliff had enrolled at the U of I instead of us, although I was glad he came here.
I will always be a Jayhawk fan first, but I will also speak my mind when I want to as well, as is my right! RCJHKU
@brooksmd
But don't you think he needs to prove himself some more? I'd love to see Danny coach KU. He's my favorite Jayhawk, but I would just need to know he can coach a team with extraordinarily high expectations from it's fan base. Turgeon gets the same scrutiny too and he's done decently I've thought.
@KUSTEVE I don't know Steve, but it seems when I give an alternative opinion you can't seem to deal with it. You did the same thing a few weeks ago when I said who cares what Gottlieb says. I'm just a crazy fanatic fan just like you. Have an open mind for other views.
@JayhawkRock78 Why?
@wissoxfan83 By the way, I've been watching Lunardi for weeks diss WIsconsin. I can't stand the guy now! Wisconsin has one loss all year playing at full strength, to Duke, when Duke shot like 70%. Their point guard Traevon Jackson has been out with a broken foot, who's return keeps getting pushed back. We've lost two games with him out, and we infamously lost to Rutgers when Kaminsky was out and Jackson missed the 2nd half when he broke his foot. I really think we (Wisconsin) can knock off Kentucky this year but would prefer to have the opportunity to do so as late as possible in the tourney!
If every thing stays the same and Wisconsin ends up a very strong #2, hell is going to be raised if they are put in Kentucky's bracket. And I'll be leading the charge!
"Duke especially. I feel like every year they somehow have their first games in North Carolina. Makes me crazy!"
I've had similar feelings. I looked into it a little bit and I think because one year UNC gets to stay home and another year Duke gets to, that we think each team gets it every year. It hasn't happened as much as we think, although I would say the NCAA does get them home when they can.
KU happens to be in a state that just doesn't have any sites to host a sub regional. North Carolina has a lot of D1 programs that are significant which means they also have arenas that are NCAA worthy.
I can't help but wonder with Cliff's rebounding if last night if we'd have had much more success.
It was also interesting to see the guys step up in Perry's absence. They played with way more resolve and determination when he wasn't on the floor. That's not a knock against Perry, but it could really benefit us over the next few weeks. Jamari wow, and for all the times we've dogged on him this year. He won that game for us.
@RockChalkinTexas JNew knows everything. Will be looking forward to seeing Cliff fill in with the others in Perry's absence.
As for next year, he'd be foolish to go pro. All of the experts, and by that I mean us here at the Bucket, know that he needs to come back to KU next year.
It's only bad ball on the offensive end. And last nights comeback was a defensive masterpiece in the 2nd half. We held them to 19 points. That's what won the game. I think that Self must have reminded them that their two guards were missing (where would we have been if Staten played?) so, you know, just steal the ball from them, turn them over. He said to the bench bigs you've been waiting all year, hear's where we need you. Go out there and win this game for us. And they did.
And our Free Throw Defense was amazing too!
I rest my case.
Man, I meant to stop by earlier see how everyone's doing here. We were all crying and whimpering over on JNew's blog. What about here?
@brooksmd Oh, they played?
Did anyone watch that game tonight?
Totally unrelated to anything basketball. How do you get your wise saying thingy to appear with all of your posts?
@Lulufulu Ok, so we're going from inside out to bad ball? Whatever it takes!!
@DoubleDD I'd rather run the table this year :)
@KUinLA We were losing by 9 with a little over 2 minutes left against Memphis. That's a big collapse.
The Houston game, I don't remember specifics, but Houston tried to stall and let NCS back into a game that they had wrapped up. It too was a collapse.
@KUinLA Maybe Memphis had the biggester end of game choke. Houston had quite the choke against NCS
@justanotherfan You're right. I remember we weren't thrilled with our nonconference schedule for some of those years.
This years even hasn't been that tough imho. (hear me out!!) Our schedule has been made tough by the Big12 being strong top to bottom.
Obviously Kentucky was tough. But who else in the top 25 out of conference did we play? Utah is it I think. We went on the road to Temple and Georgetown. Florida normally would have been a tough match, but they can't even win games in the SEC this year. Same with Michigan St.
On paper this year is tough looking but in reality, while there hasn't been a whole lot of easy outs, there hasn't been one non-conf game besides Kentucky that scared any of us. Now I don't know how that compares to other schools, but it's not a killer schedule, just a tough schedule
Our schedule has been good for us fans. We have not had games which we know we're going to win by 40 or 50.
Now for a tough schedule look at 0ur 85-86 schedule. That was a tough schedule.
@wrwlumpy And that's what's wrong in college sports. So you're saying they arrived Sunday for a Tuesday night game? Why not leave Monday night after classes? If all teams played by the same travel rules it wouldn't make a difference.
I heard Huggie talking about the travel problems his team faces. Tonight the game will end at around 10. Which means they're leaving the airport no earlier than 11, probably closer to 12. Which is 1AM in Morgantown. The plane gets back around 3AM, back to the dorms and well, guys, make sure you're in class at 8AM! Pretty crazy if you ask me.
ESPN is famous for their top ten. Here's mine.
Not top 10 0f ESPN
-
Scheduling of college games that run into the time slot of the next.
-
ESPN3 not letting us watch certain games. We subscribe to the channel through our cable/dish packages so we should receive these games.
-
East coast bias.
-
They now cover football 12 months of the year. It's spring training and for a week all they'd talk about was how fast someone ran or how heavy a weight they lifted.
-
They really don't like baseball except in New York and Boston.
-
They schedule us for road games on big Monday increasing our chances of being upset and the court being stormed.
-
Freaking Doug Gottlieb said the other day that Stein on Kentucky is the player of the year. He's averaging 9 and 6. He said Kaminsky doesn't deserve it. (the more astute bucket reader will make not that several weeks ago I didn't care what he said, just enjoy the game. I APOLOGIZE. I HATE GOTTLIEBS BACKWARD PANTS GUTS.
-
I'm a chauvinist and I admit it and the woman that announces their football games annoys me.
-
They own the SEC network. Now how is ESPN supposed to be objective if they own the rights for a major conference sports network? They run top 25 polls. Might they favor SEC teams in those polls?
-
What that lady said about KU's schedule strength.
Now let's add a FF or NC to #11
@VailHawk KSU Fans of both teams boo more than any teams fans I've ever heard.
@Blown Wow, you on the run from the law too? :)
Part of my explanation is I think I have a little ADD and get bored in a place and want to move on to someplace new.
@Blown I'm on the run from the law!
Short version. Grew up in Chicago, Did two years of Juco there. Went to KU. Graduated. Went back to Chi. Got married, moved to Wisconsin, 14 years there, then following God's lead, went to Baton Rouge to teach inner city kids. Tough to explain that part quickly! I have a very complicated sports life!
I know this is a dead topic, and I know I threw a divergent opinion on this topic, but now Gottlieb has crossed the line for me, so erase I ever said here. I hate the guy!!
@Blown Ya'll could have asked your local Wisconsin expert (me!) which time zone they're in! Central, fyi!
@KUSTEVE "poor character" shouldn't be in quotations because I said "character issues". Of course it's speculation. But we speculate all day long for 365 1/4 days of the year on this site. And there are two facts on the table. He did the dumb hat thing and now he's unofficially suspended for who knows what. So, since they haven't told us, we speculate.
@KUSTEVE Don't put words in my mouth! I didn't say "I knew he was going to be trouble".
I'm just gonna go ahead and say what I've been thinking all year regarding Cliff.
I grew up in Chicago. I love Chicago hoops. I cheer for Chicago kids to do well in college and move on to the league.
Cliff however revealed character issues when he did his stupid stunt on signing day. If you don't recall, he grabs the U of I hat, then takes it off and puts our hat on. Great he's coming to KU!
On the other hand, Illinois' and Chicago's basketball psyche is pretty fragile right now. They haven't been able to recruit Illinois' best players since Self left. So the entire state (exaggeration I know) sees him put the U of I hat on and collectively thinks great! Then he makes the switch. He did this to his friends, neighborhood, school, city and state. Not very wise or classy.
I know he was in HS. Still, I had a little less regard for Cliff that day. Are his problems now related to character issues in some way or other? We'll not likely know, at least for a while.
But it may.
If it's his family, didn't his dad draw some unnecessary attention to himself when his signing occurred? I'm thinking there was something.
