Someone please tell me why I should have any hope we could beat Kentucky.
I know being a fan means we always think our team is going to win, but I don't think there's a chance our team beats Kentucky. Anyone else on that list, fair game, let's see what happens.
@HighEliteMajor Someday you should tell us of your basketball experiences. Where did you gain your knowledge? Don't think of it as bragging or anything, I'm just curious. You have an understanding of the game that most of us don't have here. I sure don't, I just like to watch the ball go in the peach basket more than the other team, although I really think we are not very good lately at putting it in the peach basket from that line that never used to be on the court.
I don't have an opinion on Barnes except I'm glad we get to face him twice a year. The games are usually compelling and we almost always beat them!
Welcome to the site. I wonder how many other lurkers there are?
@VailHawk You from Minnesota?
@VailHawk
ooh, I didn't stay in Kansas long enough to fully grasp the KU-KSU thing, but I lived in Wisconsin a long time and calling me a MInnesotan is like calling me a miserite!

Suddenly, we become a very tough out.
Do you see us becoming a very tough out at this point? I don't want to appear to be trollish or anything, but with 2 regular season matches and potentially one league tourney game we're running short of time to develop a new style of play.
I like your enthusiasm as well!
@Lulufulu
I obviously hope they do, but I'm fearing @jayhawkbychoice nailed it. Defenses have adjusted to our weapon and so now we are going to have to readjust. Someone please step up on the inside, besides Perry of course!! I don't care if your name is Hunter, Landon, Jamari or whatever, we need you. Otherwise this season is going to end early.
@VailHawk I'm not smart enough to answer that question! I'll say this, it didn't seem like we even had many good looks from 3 today.
3-21 in the last two games and 7-31 in the last three games qualifies as a slump on three point shooting that is alarming me. Not many talking about it.
We're 2-1 in those games with nary a blowout in sight. Could be 1-2 with a 'bad win' against TCU. This is our NCAA nightmare we've been saying all year.
The NCAA tournament is coming near. We go on the road to OU, another potential loss, plus a gauntlet in the league tourney. We could easily lose two more games before the dance meaning we'll have 8 losses and a poor last 10 record. That leads to a poorer seed. We probably don't want that 4 seed because we'll have to play the 1 seed in the sweet 16.
The possibility of losing Cliff furthers the need for 3 point shooting.
Is anyone alarmed by this slump? I am.
@VailHawk Bingo! And they own the SEC network which means we get SEC ad nauseum during football season.
No one has talked much about this, but it's an obvious conflict of interest. Think of how much influence ESPN has on the sports world. Handing out Top 10 plays, players, plays of the year, rankings, power rankings. Which teams they'll write features on. SEC Storied, a regular show on ESPN, not on their own SEC network. I don't see Big1G or Big12 storied. There's no ACC Storied.
@Blown I did think Bilas' reaction was a bit much. I think he wanted Texas to win.
@Blown I watched the game on tape and was trying to decide if there was a foul there or not. Did he slide by Mason? Did Mason throw a hip into him a bit?
@nuleafjhawk My wife saw that part of my post and said she's going to check the KU schedule and keep me to that. Let's see, how do I delete that part of my post?
@nuleafjhawk I ask forgiveness, I left you out of my original post. We need you at the Jnew blog or live blog here!
@lincase Hmmm.... In keeping with the spirit of my post, the weather, you're feeling kind of ill, car troubles, indeed, carma, I mean karma, do anything you can to get yourself in front of that tube. Wear your Beats by Dre to drown out the every 5 seconds updates. Sit by yourself in the top row of Kemper or wherever they play games in KC these days.
As a human, go to the game for goodness sakes and who the heck cares about a KU game. There will be plenty more!

We must be equally prepared to laugh with glee when Barnes blows another game with his uber talented teams.

If life's overwhelming obstacles prevents us from being in front of the TV from 3-5 priorities must be questioned. I'm questioning my priorities as I won't be present today. In said case, be sure in an obsessive compulsive manner that DVR's or other recording devices are set, rechecked at least twice, and, most importantly that you don't receive phone calls, texts, social media messages from anyone that appears like it might ruin your viewing of the game.
Corollary, note must be presented to bucketeers for your absence.
Have fun! It's a game, it's not life or death....well, kinda.
I might add a few to your excellent post @Mohawk
You're bush league if you boo every call against your team.
You're bush league if you have to have the scoreboard tell you to make noise. (please tell me KU doesn't do that!)
You're bush league if you have NIT banners hanging in your gym unless they're from before 1960 or so when it was still a big tournament.
You're bush league if you can walk up on game time and put a toy in a barrel for a free ticket. This happened at an LSU game I was at earlier this year, although the toys were for a good cause.
You're bush league if we here at KUBuckets say you're bush league. We have the final say.
We've got a great stupid fan @stupidmichael!!
We fans are like that. I don't think any of us think he is dirty. We think he is a really good recruiter but not an elite coach.
Good enough indeed to get to the third round 3 of the last 5 years and even 2 elite 8's.
But he develops a deer in the headlights look when things start going sour and he doesn't, at least to me, seem to be a very good in game coach especially when you look at the talent that he has assembled in Wacko.
The funny thing is that on my work computer your pictures never open for me. But the comments here have me guessing it's the kid at the end of the Texas bench who was acting the fool when Texas cut our lead down to 5 or 6 points. Am I right?
What I think your post means is it is safe for Cliff, and Perry, and Oubre and Graham and Wayne to come back along with the supporting cast? I think it's safe for them all to come back. Another year won't hurt any of them.
@KUSTEVE Ha! It will be a shock when that happens too because it last happened in the 1990's.
@Gunman I like it, but it might become too many with that many teams dancing.
What will happen, when, you know, we join the ranks of NIT teams, meaning Not In Tournament? I've only known that feeling once, although losing first rounders a couple of times almost feels like it.
When will it happen? How will it happen?
It's gonna happen. Someday, Somehow.
Are we ready for that?
@BeddieKU23 No, but we can ROOT for a Baylor ROUT as we are en ROUTE to another big 12 championship. And then we'll raise a cup of ROUT beer, uh, alright, I'm confused now.
@cragarhawk If Self comes to his senses and takes our advice here, what you said will come true.
@KUinLA I was impressed last night. He has a young team and they played very Wells.
So now, a night after the KSU debacle, I have to endure another painful loss, although losing to Mark Turgeon at least makes it palatable. Maryland's fans were totally obnoxious however. Multiple profane chants which the mic was picking up better than any game I'd ever heard.
But it's all good. Both my teams still lead major conferences.
@DCHawker Thanks for the info!
Good stuff @drgnslayr
I don't have much to add except you write a lot of what makes sense to me.
I'd point back to the Temple game as my proof that this team just wasn't going to thrive. I think that was a worse loss than last night. We got killed against a team that is decent, but mid majorish. Sure we're totally spoiled at KU. We're ready to jump off the bridge into the muddy Kaw over a 22-6 record! But it's how we've gotten to that record that has a lot of us concerned. We've blown out very few teams. It'd be interesting to compare the point differential of this year to past years. I"m not going to do it, but I'd guess it would show that to be true.
My best hope is we'll catch fire in March and get into the 2nd weekend and maybe something good will happen.
Here's my problem with it. This is the third time, at least according to ESPN last night in 5 years they've stormed the court. In other words, it's not unusual for us to lose there. So why storm the court at all? It's another way of saying "we suck" at basketball.
Of course we do it in football. There is a little difference. We are not pretending right now to be good at football. We probably could say "we suck" at football. KState is supposed to be decent at basketball, usually are, so why storm the court?
I'll give you the gun, but I'm not going to jail for life for shooting a suicidal Jayhawk fan!!
@ralster I wrote the same thing after the Temple game. I got semi ripped for saying it. But that loss was a bad omen to me.
We lost this game because three times we had nice little leads and then, I guess because of our youth, we decided to get fancy. The 8 point lead in the 2nd half was followed by about 10 attempts to make Sportscenter (10 is an exaggeration, but you get my point). Some of those will make the Not Top 10. We built our leads by execution and blew our leads by lack of execution.
I'm pissed, ticked, upset, disgruntled, exasperated, flabbergasted, and ....? And that's just at KState fans for acting like idiots after the game.
This team is weak. We're not gonna survive the first weekend of the tournament.
ESPN lovs putting us on the road for BIg Monday. It's the toughest time to play on the road.
That's like a horsecollar tackle in football!
Self at the half said they need to stop giving up these miniature leads they build up. It's happened about three times tonight.
Cliff getting some boards since the early foul
@KUSTEVE About time!
It's a rule guys, swing elbows it's a foul
We suck at 3 foot shots
Eric ouch.
Wouldn't it be fun to do that?
LIstening to a podcast called to Jayhawk Talk, they said his teammates call Perry the Blender because of his spin moves
Didn't oubre miss that layup?
How does oubre miss that?
Evening Cragar
I'm not overly optimistic for this game to be honest. We didn't exactly blow them out at home, but I guess they're kind of scuffling lately.
