@JayhawkRock78 I'll try to update the guys and my observations from time to time.

I check box scores of all former 'Hawks in the League, but I forgot about Tarik, so when I checked to see how Wigs did, I didn't even look at the Rockets. That's good production from him.

UCSB Gauchos • Nov 13, 2014 02:19 PM

Allan Williams is a guy who will probably play at the next level. Scored 21 a game and had 11 boards last year. He'll be noticed Friday night.

I was listening to Jim Boeheim yesterday and he said in 09 they lost to a D2 squad, I forget the name now. 2 weeks later they went to UNC and beat them. After the defeat Roy said "That ____ D2 team must be really good".

I'm impacted in no way by Zengers inane decision but I'd loathe the man too, because I know how I'd feel if I lived in Kansas.

Beautiful state indeed.

I think it's a slap in the face to go to ESPN3 and see it blacked out. Most of us pay for ESPN in packages which includes internet. We should get those games. Now it hasn't impacted me thus far, and hopefully won't later, but I have missed games in the past.

KU vs. Emporia St - Svi To Start • Nov 11, 2014 01:35 AM

Svitness. If only his number were 34.

Is it time to remove the pads..... • Nov 10, 2014 06:40 PM

The rule I don't like, and it only applies to HS, is that runners can't return kick offs out of the end zone. With the inability of most HS players to reach the end zone it's not applied too much, but it is a rule. Don't think it applies to punt returns however.

I've seen some egregious calls this year. Not sure if this one quite fits the category. IMO the defender didn't need to launch himself into the receiver like he did.

Out with old in with the OAD • Nov 10, 2014 05:03 PM

Right now I believe my second love Wisconsin Badgers have a much better chance of making the FF with their 2nd, 3rd and 4th year players than KU does with their getting to be usual stable of 1st and 2nd year players. By all means I hope this team proves me wrong, but as Cal has showed us 1st round NIT exits are possible with such players as well.

Out with old in with the OAD • Nov 10, 2014 03:26 PM

If we turn into a OAD school, I will be posting here less, watching less KU basketball, etc. I want to get to know players. There's no way in H E double hockey sticks that I'm going to try to invest emotional energy into learning 10 new players every year and wait for the inevitable 'so and so decided to forgo their last three years of eligibility and enter the draft'. Especially since more than half of those guys are going to be NBA busts and leave us wondering what if, ala Joshua Selby to name one. I want no part of it.

Thought provoking sports pics/screenshots • Nov 09, 2014 05:34 AM

We have just the opposite here in Baton Rouge. LSU basketball tickets are literally cheaper than HS tickets, while Football tickets are, well very high.

Kelly Oubre • Nov 09, 2014 12:42 AM

Thanks for the read Crimson. This story resonates as many of the students I have taught have very similar stories. Several have made it to the NFL, one gets in just a few snaps with the Cowboys, the other played on some practice squads. But to see kids go from the lower 9th ward to four years at LSU and on to the NFL is amazing to see up close like I have. It's equally amazing to see kids go from similar circumstances and get to college and graduate like I've seen. Sports is the great equalizer for some, but not many. Glad Kelly has been able to overcome a lot in his life no matter how he does with KU.

@jaybate-1.0 Why would you put them at a National Park? :)

Celebrities at AFH • Nov 08, 2014 04:24 AM

@jaybate-1.0 JB I always thought you were Alfred E Neuman!

Celebrities at AFH • Nov 07, 2014 07:35 PM

@JayhawkRock78 Olivia Wilde, that's the name I was alluding to who contributed to the beautification of AFH!

Celebrities at AFH • Nov 07, 2014 05:58 PM

It seems as if in this internet age that the legend of Allen Field House is growing. The Phog regularly shows up at the top (or very near the top of some nearsighted sportslist makers) of the best arenas, best atmosphere, best fans, best tradition, loudest arena, best chant, most loyal fans, you know, all the things you all know we already are.

So as a result, we are attracting the celebs. You all were gaga over some actress a year or two coming to games. Sorry, I don't remember who it was, but apparently some of you thought she made AFH look better.

So I read the other site a couple of days back and see that Mr. October himself, Reggie Jackson showed up for the Ichabods game. And it wasn't to see Washburn U. He was there in a New School Yankees hat, apparently some Royals fans, remembering the late 70's playoff losses to NY weren't too pleased about it. One poster on the other site went as far as to say he should have been banned from AFH. But he specifically stated he wanted to attend a game in AFH.

He was there with Dana Stubblefield's daughter, who also made AFH look better. Not sure the relationship there, except the article stated they were friends.

So has AFH become a bucket list type of place? Who else comes to these games we know? I know of course former hoopers from KU come, but what other celebs have stopped by?

It makes me proud of my alma mater that through God's leading I was fortunate enough to spend three magical years at KU.

Chuck Neinas to help with KUFBHC search • Nov 06, 2014 06:33 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Thanks for that snippet. I always thought we didn't really deserve to play in that Orange Bowl by virtue of losing to the school we don't like to mention. Interesting how much politicking goes into the process of picking teams for the bowls.

@nuleafjhawk LOL. The reality of it is I felt so guilty I never cheated again on anything in school! A little bit of old fashioned discipline goes a long ways!

@nuleafjhawk I cheated in my algebra class freshman year of high school. Miss Bean literally stared a hole through my head with that mean look on her face, but I guess you frickin hate me, I'm ok with that.

Greene suffers concussion against Washburn • Nov 05, 2014 05:45 PM

@wrwlumpy I loved it that the refs ignored Smart's dumb move. He's one guy I just kind of hope ends up at the end of the bench and is finally resigned to playing for Western Tibet in the Kyrgyzstan pro league.

Is there supposed to be a hyperlink here that works? I'd love to see what you're all talking about!

Hudy posted this about athletes and sleep • Nov 05, 2014 01:31 AM

I really thought it was going to say something about attributing their upset of KU to their new found extra sleep. Interesting article for sure.

First Exhibition: Mason Was The Star • Nov 04, 2014 01:13 PM

I see Svi for Three! The kid has a beautiful stroke!

NBC Sports report on Cliff • Nov 03, 2014 10:35 PM

Yes, I want to play Misery every year. I'd rather see KU play good teams than let's say, Alcorn St. from a couple years ago. Saying we're going to not play them since they left sounds childish to me.

Tomorrow and other topics • Nov 03, 2014 02:12 AM

Good post @ralster. If he is morphing into a OAD coach, which is kind of what you're saying I'm not sure I like it. Kentucky is the notable exception in the last 10 years or so of OAD's winning it all. I'm sad when guys leave after their four years on campus. I"m sad because we got to knew them in a way. When Wigs left, I shrugged, he used us to get very rich, I don't blame him either, he had to use someone. But when someone like Travis Releford comes in or Perry Ellis and gives us years of blood sweat and tears I appreciate them much more, especially when the OAD doesn't deliver title #4 which ours haven't.

Tomorrow and other topics • Nov 02, 2014 08:53 PM

I see on our schedule we have an exhibition tomorrow night. Did anyone know? :)
What should we look for? I usually don't get too excited about these matchups, although it sure is good to know that we can watch the boys in action.

I will be very interested to see Svi in action. Wondering what kind of 'mystery' man we've got in him.

Wiggins is struggling a bit. Saw some of the same things that drove us crazy, including several drives to the hoop, explosively, only to not finish.

CBS has a top 100 list. Here's KU on the list. Cliff 14, Kelly 21, Perry 22, Wayne 32. If Kelly is better than Wayne I'll be tickled because like a lot of you I"m stoked to see Selden break out this year. The entire list is here: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24773610/cbssportscoms-top-100-players-in-college-hoops-for-2014-15 ↗

When the season finishes in April, it will be baseball season again! Hooray!

@drgnslayr I am stoked for sure. It's always great to look at the rankings and see UW and KU both in the top 5. CBS did one of those top 1o0 players lists and actually had Decker #4 and Kaminsky #5!

@drgnslayr Bo has had guys like him. Brust last year, Jason Bohannan to name a few.

Conner gone? • Nov 01, 2014 04:22 PM

@wrwlumpy Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think he was eligible this season.

Man that sucks, but it will suck less if he goes to Wisconsin.

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 09:10 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I know those are treasonous words here! Baseball is a sick sport. Bud Selig has driven it into near irrelevance. They're talking about letting FS1 televise the World Series in the future if you can believe that. But I still love it, which doesn't mean I don't love KU basketball!

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 05:30 PM

@nuleafjhawk I don't know what you call someone who doesn't watch a game for 25 years and then jumps on the bandwagon, because that goes way beyond fair weather fan, so I guess I'll just say welcome back to America's best sport!

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 02:40 AM

Still checking in, hoping for a comeback.

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 01:34 AM

Cole not playing so far for the Knickerbockers. That's our KU alums update.

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 01:32 AM

Marcus Thornton and Brandon Bass, both playing for the Celtics. I taught both of their siblings here in Baton Rouge. I don't have fond memories of either unfortunately.

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 01:30 AM

Gooden 15, Pierce 14 for the Wizards, Mario hasn't done much, 2 points.

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 01:27 AM

Wiggins 1 point, 3 fouls, 2 steals, 1 ast, 1 board at the half.

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 01:18 AM

Brooks, you know my rants about the length of games, but I'll go to work sleepy tomorrow. I'm staying up for this one!

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 12:32 AM

I know Bill Cassidy and his wife Laura. They're really nice people whom I respect a lot for what they've done for the poor in Baton Rouge.

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 12:25 AM

@brooksmd At least we agree on who we really don't want!

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 12:22 AM

Checking in, glad your station came to its senses. I'd be screaming at some hapless operator if they preempted a WS game 7. Go Royals, and Cassidy :)

The best 100 players in college basketball • Oct 29, 2014 07:37 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Those are good arguments against Petteway. I don't remember any of that happening. What I do remember is watching him last year in Big10 play and he was very good. Is he better than Ellis? Who knows? They're both very good. I'm not smart enough to compare players like that.

Congratulations! Of course we all know he reads our stuff before writing his so we get some of the credit!

The best 100 players in college basketball • Oct 29, 2014 02:42 PM

My Badgers perspective again. Nigel Hayes was a beast as a freshman and has added a 3 pointer to his arsenal. He's going to be very good this year. Every team in the country would love to have him on their roster.

I think Josh Gasser is a great player too, probably deserves top 100. His defense is what puts his game in top 100, much of the list doesn't pay much attention to that methinks.

The best 100 players in college basketball • Oct 29, 2014 02:35 PM

@JayHawkFanToo
I like Petteway as a player. He is very good. He shot down my Badgers last year. We couldn't stop him.

@JayHawkFanToo And let's bring Popovich, although I think the Spurs may be the favorites. He was some kind of pupil/assistant under Brown for one year at KU. Can you imagine who sat on the KU bench in the 80's?!! Roy, Bill, Larry, Cal, Pop, Danny, Turgeon

WS Game 6 -- Giants vs Royals • Oct 29, 2014 01:40 AM

Looks like the Royals won't need Denkingers help in this game 6.

That was a great night. I worked at Pizza Shuttle delivering pies to hungry and drunk college students. Well the tension of that game made people forget about ordering pizzas. So we just sat around doing nothing, except watching Cardinals-Royals game 6. As soon as Denk blew the call and Iorg (I think) delivered the winning hit the phone rang off the hook and off we went delivering pies to drunk(er) college students.

@drgnslayr I like it. You could get Maryland with Turgeon as well, although 5 team tournies don't work very well! A playin game perhaps? :)

I'd much rather see Roy come back with his basketball team in tow, provided of course that we return the favor and go to the home of KU grad Dean Smith.

Then lets get Larry to bring his squad up, and we'll travel to Dallas as a return favor.

I know it will never happen. Athletic directors don't give fans what they want to see. They give fans games that minor league NCAA teams AD's want to see, so we get schedulls (pun intended) with Cal-Santa Clause and Acorn St.

Seriously, imagine the buzz if UNC and Roy came to town as part of a home and home! It would be the most anticipated matchup of the year. A scalpers delight, a @jaybate-1.0 smorgasbord, a chessmatch for @HighEliteMajor to figure out, heck, even @Jesse-Newell might blow a few neuron connections in his brain sabermetricking every nuance of the game.

I want this game to happen.
