Definitely fine with being concerned/critical. The roster is kind of weird and I don't even think Terio would have been some savior there.
Really hard to see Elmarko being a lottery pick after this year but they do draft on potential.
Not saying you are but mostly frustrated with the people that act like this team will miss the tournament. Now that would shock me.
Look around the country, who has an insane roster? Tennessee maybe? No one is blowing me away.
Might have to take a year off the boards. Between the boards, twitter and the discord server it's a lot.

Going back, first 6 possessions were great. If Self runs real stuff all game, mostly just feeding Hunter we probably put up triple digits. At the very least 90. That doesn't help us long term though, we obviously know Hays can't hang with Hunter so it was more interesting to try other stuff.
@approxinfinity I'd guess something like 24-7 in the regular season. Maybe I will be happily surprised. Definitely some development that needs to happen.
Guessing that gets us on the 2 seed line.
@kuballin10 Bill wouldn't play Battle much, would be a Remy situation on steroids. Temple kicked him off the team.
You'd rather have Udeh and Zuby than HD? Then we really wouldn't score unless we got a scoring four and another scoring guard instead. Not sure who we were even on and could of landed that fits the bill? You can't just pick and choose players you want in the portal.
Not the #1 team in the country right now but there is time to get better and gel as a team.

Would agree Furphy has to get stronger. He has a great feel for the game and is loooong. Not this year but eventually he is a starter.

McDowell got his cardio in tonight just like Illinois. Just didn't do much at all. He's a small wing for us at this point.
First ten minutes or so were real then we experimented/coasted. Second half was almost all bizarre line-ups and the walk-ons played a lot. No one got hurt. I am happy.
If Furphy stays healthy he will play more than Nick this year.

@kjayhawks Elmarko was even worse defensively than Nick though. Not many options.

Liked Elmarko's effort in straight up situations but off the ball he really got lost. He will have to learn quickly for us to reach our potential.

Yeah I think we will mostly drop coverage him going forward. Maybe play some zones though I am sure Bill hates that.
@BeddieKU23 Yeah we tried several things defensively. Some alright but mostly bad with Hunter. We learned that we can't hedge with Hunter at all and that KJ is cheeks on the perimeter. The myth of KJ's defense because of one play as a freshman is one of the weirdest things with the KU fan base.

One of his makes was one of the few times we ran a play. Screened a drive for him and he was at the basket before Illinois knew what was going on. That's something Bill can work with.
Elmarko's development is probably the key to the season. Many people have wanted Self to play a raw freshman, and now he has no choice.

Yeah we really can't afford injuries but especially Kevin. He was as advertised last night.
Timby is basically Moss. That's fine. Will need to have three point looks manufactured for him against better comp which Bill will do when he's actually coaching.
I seriously believe Bill is happy with this result. He let them flop around out there and he gets stuff on tape to grill them with.
@rockchalkjayhawk Agree, typical growing pains as guys get used to play together.
All things considered we looked fine and about what I would have expected playing another solid roster this early on. Maybe some people had really high expectations.

I’m not sure we can take a ton from this game, we didn’t look to be hustling for 3/4s of it and the officiating was very one sided. My biggest worry isn’t the starting 5 but the bench looks very bad. I’m not a 100% Braun or Timberlake are D1 Caliber of guys for sure ain’t power 5 guys. We will take some losses early in the season with our schedule that I’m very certain of. Hopefully guys develop but I think this teams best chance is slowing down the game and limiting possessions.
Thought Timberlake was fine. Bill was taking a nap, didn't coach basically.
Our offense while running no sets with Dajuan taking a nap on the court was fine btw

It will be a miracle if we get Elmarko for a second year unfortunately. Would love to see it but I think an NBA team takes a chance on him.

Problem is KJ's skill level, defense, rebounding. Kinda ready to move on. I try not to talk about him too much.
All these issues and my complaining and we are right there with a ranked team on the road in a game where Self isn't coaching much. We will be fine.
