@FarmerJayhawk From what I understand he's been basically committed for awhile now.

Ty Berry • Jul 23, 2019 01:22 AM

@FarmerJayhawk Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is there.

The Berry stuff came from Ryan, though he did hedge it slightly.

Not a good day for JayBaller • Jul 23, 2019 01:20 AM

Stay strong @jayballer73

Kidneys are no joke. I once had a kidney infection, VERY PAINFUL. Ever since, I drink much more water.

And I like Dave a lot, it's just hard to take offseason Bill seriously. He says a lot of crazy things.

Bill Self said Dedric is the best passer we have ever had and that Q was a stud guard.

Also who could forget Merv Lindsay?

“He has great potential and has the ability to help us this season. He is a very athletic wing who is a good shooter. Like all the incoming freshmen we have, as Merv gets stronger, he will continue to develop.”

The best thing about Freshman is they become Sophomores.

Ty Berry • Jul 23, 2019 12:58 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 You could even argue that every HS recruit KU ended up taking this year is a 4 year player. Enaruna has the most potential upside to leave early and actually go pro, but he has a ways to go.

@Marco @FarmerJayhawk I was impressed with how Dave was coming along by the end of the year. He was moving quite well defensively.

Ty Berry • Jul 23, 2019 12:53 AM

@Kcmatt7 Exactly. Not saying it is true but a proven fairly reliable source and there is something that is having KU hold up.

@FarmerJayhawk Oh be fair now Ryan isn't tonto, lol.

Ty Berry • Jul 22, 2019 09:44 PM

Ryan on the phog mentioned Berry has attitude and work ethic issues. If true that would help explain why KU hasn't offered.

Ty Berry • Jul 22, 2019 07:52 PM

@justanotherfan to be fair Conner and Marty had unrealistic expectations as well

2020 Recruiting • Jul 22, 2019 02:59 AM

Interesting, if true.

@Crimsonorblue22 I think there is a really good chance McBride gets minutes IF he is a high level ball-handler that can handle D-1 pressure (low TOs) — something we wont know until he does it. Folks regularly underestimate the need for high quality ball-handling. I don’t know how many times I move heard, oh, Selden can play PG, or we could move Relford there, or you name it. I’ve regularly stated my opinion that such talk is just silly and that has always played out that way.

Ball-handling is an irreplaceable, required, high-level skill that can get an otherwise inferior player on the court. It’s a must-have skill. And it can’t be “pretended.”

The key I think is ifSelf thinks that Garrett is a satisfactory stop gap for 8-10 mpg. Garrett, however, is subpar with the ball. Not from a ball protection stand point (like Selden) — Garrett is actually fine there — but he’s slow with the ball, a “tail-dribbler” as my HS coach kindly referred to that type of PG.

Self likes playing fast. Garrett could get those minutes if Self is fine with a slower pace.

If McBride is strong with the ball and not a turnover machine, I could see 8-12 per game.

And let’s not forget, Self loves having more ball handlers on the floor. So if McBride is good, he and Dotson together for stretches is not that far fetched. This could let Dotson get some valuable off ball time.

I don’t think we enough solid info on McBride though to accurately project just yet. But I think we do know what will get him on the court.

If this is the path to pt then Harris might surprise if he is good to go academically. He is a rock with the ball.

@BShark It might be a Doke/Dave rotation at the 5, and a Silvio/Jalen/Lightfoot party at the 4. Then you'd have a Marcus/Moss/Agbaji rotation at the 2/3, with Marcus giving Dotson his 3 minutes off every game. Jalen would have more minutes available at the 4 anyway.

If Mitch doesn't RS I think Jalen almost never finds minutes. Tough to say.

Dave and Doke are definitely 5s. Honestly I think Silvio is a 5 too but that's a whole different discussion.

@dylans he is a Marcus/Perry style 4. If he sticks around until he is a JR/SR I could see the offense running through him predominantly.

@jayballer73 Bill will play Jalen almost exclusively at the 4, just wait for it.

I like the confidence! I think he will mostly play at the 4, possibly get some time at the wing later. But with his athleticism he is more of a 4 in Bill's system. But the kind that draws away from the basket with a face up game like Perry and Marcus.

So is my boy Kyree just TOTALLY removed from our recruiting efforts? - -ya I heard that supposedly talk about him going over sea's but just curious - -I know he is refuting that saying he hadn't said that.

Has anyone heard if Coach has just backed totally away? - -the kid is an animal - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

You know I'd love to have him end up at KU, but this overseas smoke concerns me.

If Jalen Wilson plays a meaningful second at the 2 I will buy you a whole case of beer brother.

@alwaysajayhawk I would love for us to sign Berry.

Offering him a scholarship and actively recruiting him would be a good step towards that but it doesn't seem like he is a priority from what I can tell. Could bite us if he ends up at Ok ST.

@HawkChamp oh the slander! We needed Dedric, he was one of the only guys on the team last year that could create for himself and others. Remove him and all else stays the same and KU likely missed the tournament.

Dotson • Jul 19, 2019 01:35 PM

@dylans Good to have that out there for crootin.

Dotson • Jul 18, 2019 09:20 PM

This content, into my veins.

@drgnslayr generally not an issue for KU under Self anyway.

2020 Recruiting • Jul 18, 2019 02:14 PM

Hadn't really heard of him or seen him play yet @Marco He's on my radar now. He's going down to Sunrise so he will have a lot of exposure going forward. He has to have some kind of game to be a top 50 recruit as a JR. Feelings seem mixed on him. Rivals has him as a top 20 guy but 247 bumped him down to 45 in their last update 8 days ago. I don't think Rivals has updated yet so he may drop there too. One bad tournament will do that and with the new schedule there aren't nearly as many chances for coaches to evaluate. I trust Bill when it comes to evals for the most part.

Could he commit today I couldn't tell you. Keep in mind we have Tre White committed at his position and he is likely to reclass and move up into the same class as Brown.

2020 Recruiting • Jul 18, 2019 01:52 PM

Brown also described Kansas as his “dream school” Friday and spoke about what he likes about Kansas.

“Pretty much everything,” said Brown. “We went down there for a tournament in second grade and I just loved the place and everything about it.”

“He played there as a second grader and ever since, KU was where he wanted to go,” Brown’s father, Courtney told ZAGSBLOG.
In terms of what he’s looking for in a school, Brown said he’s prioritizing “the coaches and style of play”.

Close here Bill.

Offered 2021 Kendall Brown. Have a real good shot here from the looks of it.

Ty Berry • Jul 17, 2019 09:12 PM

@justanotherfan probably d2 as a pg for Braun.

@BeddieKU23 I'm all for filling the roster, for sure.

Ty Berry • Jul 17, 2019 04:39 PM

@justanotherfan like Braun I think Berry is much more appealing as a wing than a pg. Some kids do get stuck on position though.

We still need 2 guards, possibly a wing, and 2 bigs.

This is how I see it. Would have to be a miracle like Scottie Barnes to take a wing.

SO McBride and RS FR/SO Harris as the only point options is an NIT recipe but Self is so good he would make the NCAAT somehow. Honestly in that spot maybe Garrett starts at pg, really don't wanna see it. Adding Caleb Love would be a game changer.

I think that we could skate with those two running PG.

It's those two running PG with the rest of that roster that is terrifying....

Bill absolutely needs to go find someone who's a walking bucket or else the 2020-2021 season looks like it's going to be rough.

We would need some rapid development from Tristan and Wilson. I think we really need to add a big like Todd or Garcia. Both in a dream world.

rockchalkwyo said:

With Harris having a higher rating than Mcbide do you think that McBride will RS? Just wondering your guy’s thoughts or options.

Personally I say RS Harris and let McBride play considering he signed and stayed during the midst of all the allegations.

I think they are pretty different players that actually complement each other well.

Don't think either plays much if at all this year but if there is a path to playing time McBride has a better one due to his jumper.

@BeddieKU23 Did KU ever get MoKan players before the past few years?

Generally no. Nike program and one of the coaches there was against KU. Off the top of my head I can't recall the last one before Ochai.

@BeddieKU23 15-16? I mean Coleby was taking a RS coming in but I have no doubt now that we see 1-2 RS this year. Can't play 13 guys.

HAVE WE DISCUSSED HIS QUOTES YET? Kid is from Columbia Missouri and spitting these truths. :sunglasses:

"Reasons why I’m committing to the University of Kansas are playing for a Hall of Fame Coach and the best coach in the country," Harris told Rivals.com of Self. "Coach (Jerrance) Howard is the best recruiter in the country and made me feel wanted and let me know he got my back.

"I want to win a National Championship, best tradition in the country, best facilities in the country."

"What I’m going to bring to the floor is defense," said Harris. "Like take charges, and dive on the floor for loose balls, and on the offensive side I’m going to make everyone around me better and set my teammates up for great shots, basically be a playmaker."

2020 Recruiting • Jul 17, 2019 02:36 AM

Mentioned this in an update in the target thread but Cam'ron Fletcher cut KU. What a brief time it was, literally just offered him.

2020 Recruiting • Jul 17, 2019 02:27 AM

@FarmerJayhawk dot silvio doke mitch ochai moss being the possible 6? Agree it still needs to be a big class with immediate talent.

2020 Recruiting • Jul 17, 2019 02:22 AM

I think Harris and McBride are federal good year three and just shredding year 4. There will be a development curve with them as they adjust to the speed and physicality of this level.

@Marco UNC leads for Thompson

2020 Recruiting • Jul 17, 2019 02:15 AM

Love, Nix and Thompson are all immediate starters period. Not saying we get them but they are all started level and Bill will try. Love is a game changer imo, would be thrilled to land him we need size. Garrett is an emergency pg.

2020 Recruiting • Jul 16, 2019 06:29 PM

@dylans Not meaning to toot my own horn but we could pin it if it is felt that it is important enough.

I will be editing the OP with new information as I hear about it.

Ty Berry will play his SR year at Sunrise:

A bit of 1 + 1 here with Dajuan Harris who was going to be at Sunrise this upcoming year.

2020 Recruiting • Jul 16, 2019 04:55 PM

I answered him on discord but basically it's guys I think KU is firmly leading for.
