I'm fine with that. I thought everyone was saying El Marko wasn't ready.
He's a stud.

Making room for Zach.
@RockkChalkk said in KU Offseason Chef Bill Cooking Thread:
Not trying to put words in his mouth but what I think he is trying to say is that he isn't KU level good. Player rankings are always changing and usually KU is linked to players that end up climbing way up the rankings as they get closer to college. It sounds like CJ is expected to go the opposite way pretty drastically. There can be a lot of reasons for it happening but it just is what it is.
Its not all that different from say an elite college accepting an early applicant and then the student stops trying, skips out on school frequently for the beach, etc. and grades drop bad the last semester. I have heard stories of colleges pulling their acceptance in examples like this.
Yeah. I watched every Montverde game this year. He was not good, and a head case with the coaches. The stats show this as well. Got benched and scored 6ppg on 35% shooting and 26% from three.
We will see what happens but I don't think he is long for KU either way.
Juan/Elmarko/Timberlake/Tyson or KJ/Hunter hopefully
@BeddieKU23 said in KU Offseason Chef Bill Cooking Thread:
I'd consider that a waste of a scholarship. This has been as strange as Kyle Cuffe being a stage 5 clinger to the program
Yeah we will see if he even takes the visit.

I hope this all makes sense in the end.
If it's Primo vs CJ I don't think it's close you take Primo even if he has to RS.

@Jethro said in KU Offseason Chef Bill Cooking Thread:
Not thrilled about Primo. He gets a layup on one of his highlights where the whole team is on the other end of the court, they steal the ball, throw it down court to Primo for the easy layup. Never made it back on defense. I'd rather have El Marko, Chris, McDowell, really anyone than Primo. I'll bet he wouldn't get 5 minutes a game in conference.
Bad take. Chris is...not good. There are even concerns in his camp that he isn't KU material now.
Back to canceling the season. Bill definitely won't add any other players. We are doomed.
I'd say right now Juan/Elmarko/Timberlake/KJ/Udeh.
NOT GREAT BOB! But Bill has time.
It won't be Chris Johnson. I will bet my house.
Knecht is not good.
And back we come to this thread.
@Kcmatt7 Well said, this all goes both ways.
Oh btw, old fling alert Yohan Traore just ended up at UC Santa Barbara. Ultimately, guys are going to end up at the level they belong at a lot more now too.

@Jethro I’m beginning to get more curious what the actual annual NIL budget for KU is. As long as it’s unregulated go hog wild as one of the big boys. I do wish there would be some sort of “salary cap” or some better solution to promote equity.
We need a T Boone Pickens clone for KU. I don't want equity unless we're losing.
We have some billionaires. Yes plural. One was up in Lawrence the other day right before the Hunter visit. I won't name him out of respect that I was asked not too. But he was a big one to get on board...

What difference does it make now that payments to obtain players are: a) much higher, b) known rather than just suspected, and c) made by many schools rather than the elites?
Is the quality of basketball lower if NIL helps bring in veterans?
Does a player who doesn't have to scrape by corrupt his program?
Much pearl clutching, but I don't see the problem about knowing players are finally able to get paid for their work.
Nothing has really changed other than perception. Some people don't like knowing how sausage is made, they just want to eat sausage.

@BShark I would argue that adults aren't 18 anymore. Which is absolutely a societal change. They are far too coddled to be adults at that age by-in-large these days. Everyone as parents including me is guilty of this. But let's not BS ourselves. My grandaddy volunteered to get on a plane and go fight japs in iwo jimo at 18. These kids are not adults until 23 plus imo. And. Honestly. Probably thru no fault of their own
I don't think I'm as old as you or @dylans but I feel pretty similarly...
We are going backwards in a lot of ways as a society. Anyway, probably best to veer off this lol.
I get what you are saying, even if I disagree. Don't think I really have much to add just wanted to let you know I'm not trying to disparage you for your views.
@dylans said in Welcome Nick Timberlake!:
@BShark so adult not a child?
You are an adult at 18 imo. I'd argue possibly you should be at a younger age too but that's a lengthy discourse about society.
@dylans said in Welcome Nick Timberlake!:
All I’m saying is the bulk of the very successful folks I work for have 7-11 years of career experience by 25. Personally I took the long route and went to college so just 3 years in my current career. Yes a grown man masquerading as a child, a professional student. At some point it’s just pathetic, wait is he going into medical school? If so I take it back.
This is basically professional basketball though, at this level. Most really good NCAA teams could compete with some number of teams (not the best ones) in foreign leagues. The pay is good too.

@BShark Oh boy. It’s gonna be one of those years huh? Where Bill leans on his security blanket players that don’t mess up while getting killed by athletic teams. Ugg. Hope I’m wrong. DaJuan deserves better.
The staff really likes Timberlake. Wonder what they see in him that you don't. What do you despise about Timberlake?
Unathletic. 25 year old. Kinda creepy having a grown ass man in the dorms. OAD that doesn’t move the needle. Most likely taking a roster spot and development away from a 3-4 year player that would end up doing more for KU in the long run.
I’m fine with adding transfers, just hoped for something more impactful than Timberlake is advertised as being. Given the cost of that roster spot.
Gonna be a lot less development takes going on now. Almost farm system-ish with the way it will work going forward.
@BigBad said in Welcome Nick Timberlake!:
It's tough enough to cheer for obvious one and dones. Going to be tougher to cheer for 25 year old men who will only be in a Kansas uniform for a year over a 19 year old who WANTS to be there for 4 years.
It is what it is, I get it but I dont have to like it
Most of these kids are just following the money.
Wants to be at Kansas is like...Mitch, Teahan etc

Dajuan/Elmarko/Timberlake/Ingram/Hunter Bench: KJ/Arterio/Marcus Deeper bench: the rest of the roster
This would be a top 5 team in the country without question. Still a lot to play out.
No Ernest???
Went brain dead on that. He'd play some. Fixed.

@dylans Plan is starter.
UNC fans are truly something else. I don't think this guy is a home run by any means but they are acting like Cormac Ryan is the far better player since it's who they are more likely to get now. KU had contacted Ryan fwiw but preferred Timberlake. It's also not a stretch to guess the UNC staff felt similar, given they took Timberlake in for a visit first and their people thought he was a lock for them after that visit.
"Bill Self is a ****ing gangster"
Some are saying.

@dylans said in Welcome Nick Timberlake!:
Is he better than Bobby or Joe?
Yes and yes. But, he isn't better than Gradey. We need to replace 3 double digit scoring starters. Timberlake seems like a solid roster addition, but is he a starter? If not, at this point we're relying on one of the incoming freshmen.
Worse Gradey is exactly what he will be for us IMO. Probably starts at the three. Let's wait because there is more coming.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Welcome Nick Timberlake!:
@kuballin10 he's a fine player, I'm probably just cranky that people are getting over their skis on his impact. There's a portion of basketball fandom now that thinks if you're not 40% from 3 you can't play and it filters into every single discussion. I think @Texas-Hawk-10 is spot on, he's a fine contributor but if we're counting on him to be much more, YIKES
You want him to be the 3rd (or 4th) best guy in the transfer group. Good to get the ball rolling though.
@BeddieKU23 said in Welcome Nick Timberlake!:
Really happy about this one! I think people sleeping on his game outside being a legit elite shooter
Bill thinks he is Tyrel Reed-ish from what I've heard.
God bless offseason/preseason Bill.

Castillo to the cats. Not a big miss IMO. There's a lot of talent in our backcourt for the next couple years and the class of 24 is HORRIBLE. Other than Tre idk if I'd take a commitment from any of them right now.
Don't need a guard in 24 plus he hasn't developed.
@Jethro yes lol
@mayjay said in Should KU Even Bother Fielding a Basketball team next year?:
You guys can't have it both ways. Lunardi was pushing us for #1 overall seed even after we lost our final game and the B12 tourney final. That hardly seems as anti-KU as y'all are always complaining ESPN is!
He isn't anti-KU, he just isn't great at his job.
@AsadZ said in KU Offseason Chef Bill Cooking Thread:
08 is still Self's best team at KU IMO.
I think it's the 2nd best KU team ever, behind 97.
@DanR said in Should KU Even Bother Fielding a Basketball team next year?:
@jayballer67 I checked his final bracket a few years ago and he had about 12 out of the 68 spots correct. (might have had some additional seeds right, but wrong region or whatever). Nothing literally any average fan could predict.
I'll give the guy credit for creating a career out of a pile of BS though.
There are people that are actually good at it too, he is just not among them.
If Self gets his top portal targets, it's 1 seed territory. Will be tricky, but it's possible.
I think just Ingram and Hunter would be a one seed, assuming also a third addition with a pulse.
Bored on a Friday night after working on some projects. Was thinking about this game and god bless, it's on youtube.
