I remember seeing this rumored on the UCLA board last week and I didn't buy it lol. Kentucky would be SCRAMBLING

Appears to be picking up steam this week. Lebron buying a squad for his son perhaps.

@BShark Philacheck sounds very reasonable. Appreciate them leaving the door open to returning if somehow it shakes out that way. I'm guessing that means if Ernest departs we could still see Zuby back.

Think that could very easily be on the table. Would make sense that we could retain one of them, then add a Martin/Whitman/Maxwell level guy for depth.

2023 Transfer Portal • May 06, 2023 01:03 PM

Zuby chose to leave. Was absolutely not asked to leave. I get why, the article in the star was pretty good actually.

Seems to be a given that one of them leaves. They just added a guy who's playing at least 30 minutes a game and both were top 50 recruits that probably wanted an increased role at the very least.

Yep. Do we want them to transfer? No. Would I blame one of them for transferring? Also no. One of them is looking at being last on the depth chart...

I'm fascinated to see what we will do to fill that scholarship if it becomes available. Maybe just leave it ticketed for someone coming back from the draft?

I'm sure we will try, but my guess is we end up with roster filler. We won't have a starting spot to sell.

Gonna have to be picky now given the scholarship reduction and the fact that transfers can't do it twice now. Don't want to be stuck with someone.

Yeah. If the Utah Valley kid will be eligible I like him a lot. Note: I'd rather keep Udeh if at all possible.

NCAA Championships and Coincidence • Apr 30, 2023 05:46 PM

It's the offseason and I'm bored so here we go.

Winning a championship is very hard. It typically involves a lot of talent, and generally some luck.

As we all know, Self's two titles at KU involved a player coming back at the 11th hour. Brandon Rush due to injury in 08 and Ochai due to wanting to be a badass in 22.

So this got me thinking about other circumstances. Jay Wright possibly has zero titles if Rick Brunson doesn't have sexual assault charges in 2014. Temple was set to do a Manning and hire his dad to land him. Harder to say if they still win in 16 or not, but still interesting.

LOL. Maybe you all should reach out to the coaching staff and let them know he sucks!

Wake me up if it goes beyond "contact", which even Bossi said can simply mean the contact was initiated by the player/their people.

The amount of players that "contacted" KU this cycle and it never went beyond that is staggering. Too many to list.

Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk • Apr 30, 2023 02:39 AM

@Kcmatt7 said in Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk:

@Kcmatt7 Just saying, Kevin was almost useless at the 3pt line. I know I'm in the minority, but I think KJ is going to feast in that 4 spot.

Need Hunter for this but he could be okay there. If you don't get Hunter then KJ probably starts at the 5 again.

Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk • Apr 30, 2023 02:38 AM

@Kcmatt7 said in Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk:

@BShark I really think the KJ/Marcus combo is going to be just fine. KJ did average almost 11 a game last season... How often do players take a major step back scoring?

Changing position is a factor though. Marcus regressed in some ways offensively his SR year due to that, despite the numbers being solid.

Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk • Apr 30, 2023 01:28 AM

@Kcmatt7 said in Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk:

@BShark I think Timberlake starting makes perfect sense. It's looking more and more like the lineup will be Juan/Morris/Timberlake/KJ/Dickinson. Then you have Elmarko/MAdams/Udeh as your main subs. That's a pretty dang good team.

I really think they have to find a way to open up a 4th spot and get another rotation piece though. Might be the difference between a Natty run and a Sweet 16.

Yep. The 4 spot is the only major concern in this scenario.

Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk • Apr 30, 2023 01:07 AM

@Kcmatt7 said in Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk:

@RockkChalkk I will root for him to do good while he's here. And hope that the staff has a good plan to keep him on the straight and narrow. I suppose I don't expect him to be a saint while he's here (he's still a "kid").

But if ANYTHING happens on campus where Morris assaults a woman, Bill Self needs to resign. Maybe Goff too. If they think Morris is in no way a risk to the women on campus then they should be willing to put their jobs on the line.

If something does happen, and Bill doesn't get forced out with it, I'll probably never watch another game in my life. That's where I stand on this whole situation.

Now, I hope Arterio is a 1st-team All-American. He has a lot of traits that will serve him well under Bill. At this very second, there is a legitimate possibility he is our leading scorer in 2023. The Juan/Elmarko/Morris backcourt is salty on paper. Should be able to really pressure the ball. This also ensures we have some talent coming off of the bench. Either Morris, Elmarko or Timberlake. Morris also brings some desperately needed shooting into the lineup. He's also a plus athlete for his size.

All of this to say, the talent is certainly intriguing.

It does sound like he was on the straight and narrow while at Texas. Reportedly anyway. Apparently coachable and his teammates liked him. This is all grapevine stuff.

You came with the HEAT in paragraphs 2/3 here, I respect it.

I think Timberlake will start fwiw, at the 3 spot. Caveat that if his defense isn't acceptable then probably not. But it seems to be the plan.

Morris is no Timberlake shooting but yeah he isn't bad. I've for other additions to be plus shooters as well. It was a clear need going into the portal and why while Ingram would have been fine for us, it doesn't tear me up that Bill didn't get him in hindsight.

Talent wise Morris is a no brainer take. Probably don't get him without the issues.

@RockkChalkk said in Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk:

I dont think anybody likes the stuff that is out there about him off the court. However i find it odd how some people will despise him even if he becomes the charitable man of the year every year he is here. Meanwhile, same people can look past Jalen’s DUI, Marcus Morris’ bar fight (could have also had a misdemeanor assault charge as a result), and celebrate when Braun stares down an opponent and yells ā€œfcking btchā€ on live tv.

I don't hate the kids by any means. CB didn't commit a crime in any way shape or form so I don't think it's fair to lump him in this group. I'd add Vick, Josh, Bragg and several others in the hard to root for group though.

Yes and the Chiefs have already won two which is incredible. The Packers really laid out the blueprint for how to waste a franchise QB with Rodgers. Absolutely insane.

How has your view of the program changed?

Before I could defend Kansas’ virtue to the KSU homers. Now I really can’t. It’s changed my view from my Roy Williams tinted good old boy routine to one of cynicism. Jaybate was unfortunately more right than I wanted to admit.

I guess I’m more disgusted in the lack of a convictions that fans have. If this guy played for UK or Missouri we would slaughter his character and the programs for selling their soul for wins. Since he signed with KU I’ve already seen people trying to justify his actions. (He’s not a bad kid/she made it up/he didn’t do it/it’s not that bad/etc). If we held the program to higher standards they would not be able to stoop to these lows.

I haven’t seen one national person even comment on this signing let alone write about it. So let’s just say it’s a nationwide outrage.

This is the most divisive addition in awhile. Anywhere you have people that talk about KU basketball there are arguments about this. Wouldn't surprise me to see articles from Wolken, Forde, Oneill etc but I haven't went looking.

Lots of faith in the "justice system" too. Maybe a bad faith argument to begin with but as someone that has seen the "justice system" in action plenty, especially wrt domestic violence that is NOT the flex people think it is.

This just feels like a bad dream. - I’m being punked right? Bill living in the portal Self surely didn’t identify a woman beater as one of his top targets and aggressively go get him, did he? The sad thing is Allen Fieldhouse will be sold out wildly supporting this guys ability to play basketball in spite of his off court actions. - Alabama lite/ Texas North?

Is KU basketball so important to us fans that we can completely overlook character in favor of god given talent? For some the answer is clearly yes.

If you believe the rumors, Arterio was allegedly his 2nd most wanted guy behind Hunter. Not saying you are of course, but probably a bad idea for anyone to hold Self/the staff on any kind of pedestal. It's about winning only. Self has made that statement LOUD AND CLEAR with his actions.

I am not overlooking this but agree many are, basically trying to hand wave the issues away. Mostly my twitter mutuals and other people I talk to within the fanbase feel similarly to me, but I've definitely gotten into it with some people on this one. One basically had nothing of value to say so he just kept saying "didn't ask" to w/e I said so I just blocked them. I went to multiple games last year, but I'm definitely not going to games with Morris on the team.
