I think it will move to that later in the year but that Bill will try KJ as the starting 4 first.

I think it's gonna be Hunter leading the way (duh) but then a buuunch of guys around 10-12 ppg. Very balanced.

Kev is a ridiculous high iq player and his last game against Arkansas he was good. He had a huge three late that had we won would have been talked about.
I’m happy he’s back and if Morris, Juan and Hunter can hit 3’s we will be fine with that plus our bench is loaded.
Timberlake can come in and Adam’s jr is gonna surprise
Yeah highlights can be tough, someone even put together highlights for MJ Rice's time at Kansas and you'd think he was great from that.
Biggest issue for Kaluma is he will make 2 great plays but then 3 plays that leave you scratching your head.

Kev knows the system and is smart but if he comes back thinking he’s Jalen and gonna hunt shots that isn’t gonna work. I think Kaluma is the better player.
I'd recommend watching Creighton games if you can, I think your opinion on this would change!
Terio's shooting form is excellent and he shot 41% down the stretch for Texas. He could be a breakout candidate.
@bskeet I'm very against KJ from midrange though. I think that's bad offense and his shot is a hot mess. Junkyard dog role is perfect for him.

Ugh, I am likely the only one feeling this way, but with Kevin back that is an ugly ass, non shooting starting five. Dislike. Self has brought us back to the stone age of defensive stalwarts.
We desperately need a more modern approach to that lineup.
How many KU games did you watch last year? You wouldn't be saying that if you watched Kevin play.
Ha. Watched em all Jethro, like i've done basically since the 80s. Last year was last year. We have basically a new team this year, and we need different skills.
I was hoping for a true, volume shooter to help space the floor, give us a chance at making some 3s next year. that's all. Kevin is not that guy, but brings other skills. i appreciate his skills on defense, but he's not a good fit for this team offensively IMO. that's all.
You will see some different things from him this year. It's going to be very fun to see what Bill tinkers up with Hunter. Hunter is not just a guy to dump it into down low. He is versatile. Kev is going to really be able to cut to the basket.

I'm not going to get too hung up on whether Kev shoots 30 or 35% from 3. At his volume last year that difference would be... 15 points (he scored 364). He's such an asset otherwise that those 15 are easily made up vs a sharpshooter who can't guard, rebound, handle, or move without the ball like Kev.
I don't put much stock in preseason computer rankings especially since they can't really factor in coaching but Kevin's return really moved the needle with some models that were down on KU. All these models had guys like Chris Johnson playing way to much however.

Yeah Nelson and Spencer would be my top picks. Realistic educated guess is Pullin and Kaluma which is also pretty damn good.

@benshawks08 If you can find data points of this ever really happening I'm listening. I haven't seen it historically though. Willing to be surprised again but he just isn't really a jump shooting guy.
This is also a big part of Zuby hitting the portal. Him and his people know the reality of the situation (KJ is a big and only really practices much with the bigs please do not believe the puff pieces on this). So Zuby was looking at being the 4th big.
@Jethro I believe Matt's point is that it still works if they are doubling Hunter and if they aren't doubling Hunter Bill will probably be thrilled with a lot of one on one looks for him.

I think we will legit see Bill try some double big stuff again to make sure KJ sees his minutes. Functionally, he is a big skill wise and there is no way around this.
Seen it mentioned that some think he will develop a jumpshot out of thin air. I really don't see it. I know he is going to play so it will be interesting what Self does with him.
