KU will get guys, not worried about that. The only one on that list that KU has a shot at is Stanley though, and I still think he ends up at Oregon but him not signing yesterday was good.

No, no, CUT KU SERIOUSLY LOL, CUT KU, no, Purdue or UNC, CUT KU, CUT KU, nah and might skip college, CUT KU, CUT KU, maybe actually, no, what???, NO.

That's in order, not counting Braun or McBride since they committed.

Iirc KU passed.

Word is we actually asked him to walk-on. We were full on scholarships at the time. But Syracuse as a starter vs KU as a backup walk-on, it was an easy decision.

Edit: I have it on VERY good authority that's how it went down.

Ah, same difference then LOL.

I was kind of seeing the spring cupboard as somewhat bare.

Hope -- we get Matthew Hurt and a helpful grad transfer. We'll likely lose Dedric, Doke, Grimes, Vick -- uh, pretty much our whole starting lineup.

Dotson, Moore, Garrett, Mitch, McCormack. Right?

Things can easily be worked out with Doke or Dedric to return.

@JayHawkFanToo By my count, it's up to $82,500 -- $60,000 from a booster, $20,000 from UA, and $2,500 from Adidas.

@Crimsonorblue22 I think he could take legal action if he was 1) a minor when this occurred, or 2) if it was done completely without his knowledge. He'd sue the guardian on a breach of fiduciary duty claim for one. But that won't happen.

This is murky, the UA/booster thing might be related. He said he needed to pay back UA but maybe it was the booster or maybe he was just playing Adidas. Can't really trust Fenny at all so we don't really know.

“Well he had a great game passing,” Bill Self said. “We’ll take a double-double any night. And I thought he fed the post very, very well.”

Removed all High Priority recruits at this time. Realistically KU is done recruiting until the spring. Hopefully a great season can salvage this mess

The fact that Cassius didn't announce/sign yesterday is good for KU.

Yeah. I'd still be surprised if he signed with KU. Self made it seem like they weren't expecting anymore.

Is Stanley just going to verbal and not sign during the period?

That's the hope. If he signs, it's Oregon.

Bill Self Quotes on Braun and McBride • Nov 15, 2018 01:59 PM

“Mackey, that’s his middle name, that’s what he goes by, is a bonafide scorer," Self said. "If people would look up Issac McBride and YouTube it and see some of his highlights on how he scores, I mean they’re not high school points, those are real baskets with range and how he can just jump up and make a shot from anywhere on the court."

"He's really, really going to be a good hand for us," Self said. "Both of them can shoot the ball and you can never have too much shooting, obviously."

Bill Self Quotes on Braun and McBride • Nov 15, 2018 01:32 PM

“Well, Christian obviously is from the Kansas City-area; he started out in Burlington so we’ve known of him for a while because of our connections to Burlington with Tyrel and of course Stacy and Deb Reed down there," Self said. "Even the present coach down there is a friend of ours that works the camp all the time. So we’ve known of Christian for a while, but we started following him closely this past summer even though we’ve known of him, and every time we watched him, he just kind of did a little bit more and more and more to impress us."

"He’s got range, he’s big, he’s probably a legit 6-5, 6-6," Self added of Braun on his weekly Hawk Talk show. "And he’ll play the point guard this year at Blue Valley Northwest. We’re not recruiting him to be a point guard, but we’re recruiting him to be a guard and interchangeable, and so we’re excited about him. I think he’s going to be really good. He’s better than his ranking."

"Christian comes from an athletic family," Self added in the release. "His father was a walk-on player here. His mother was a terrific player at Missouri and his uncle Mike Sandbothe is a guy all KU fans remember from back in the late 1980s. We're excited to have him here and certainly he'll be a guy that will make us better in multiple ways due to his versatility."

Bill Self Quotes on Braun and McBride • Nov 15, 2018 02:00 AM

Self also recalled that Las Vegas adventure that led Kansas to McBride.

“It was the first time we had ever seen him play,” Self said. “He played against a team with two top-five players in their respective class and he dominated the game. We watched him a few more times at that event and offered him right after that event, after seeing him play about five times.”

McBride Quotes, Articles etc... • Nov 15, 2018 01:57 AM

“It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” McBride told McPherson. “And it just kept calling me. I would think about other schools, but I would always go back to Kansas.

“The reason I want to go there is because that’s the Mecca of basketball. People say Chicago, New York, but, really, where basketball was created was right there in Kansas.”

McBride made an official visit to Kansas for Late Night and committed a couple of days later, picking KU over finalists Auburn and Virginia.

“When I went (to Kansas), the experience blew my mind,” McBride said Wednesday.

Bill Self Quotes on Braun and McBride • Nov 14, 2018 11:31 PM

From the TCJ

McBride, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound native of Little Rock, Ark., is a four-star player at recruiting outlet 247Sports.com’s composite rankings as well as the nation’s No. 112-ranked recruit, while the 6-6, 180-pound Braun, an Overland Park resident who won back-to-back state championships at Blue Valley Northwest, is also a four-star player as the nation’s 126th-ranked recruit.

“It will certainly be a transition for both of these guys stepping into the college game,” KU coach Bill Self said in a news release, “but we anticipate them both to be guys that can contribute immediately.”

McBride can play the point but is also a true scoring threat, Self said, a player with impressive range, quickness and explosiveness.

“We see him as a guy that can come in and give us depth on perimeter shooting,” Self said. “He is a guy that can just score the ball. We haven’t had too many here like that, a natural scorer. He’s a combo guard that can jump and make a shot wherever he is in the court.”

A Burlington native, Braun averaged 14.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a junior, also playing for MoKan Elite at the AAU level. Self said Braun piqued KU’s interest with a strong showing this summer.

“He’s a player that has great size and great range,” Self said. “He’s an athlete that can make plays above the rim and with his versatility, we feel like he’s a perfect fit for what we’re trying to do.”

McBride Quotes, Articles etc... • Nov 14, 2018 04:13 PM

@KUSTEVE He's a PG. Rivals has him as a PG. I think 24/7 listing him as CG is because he doesn't have tremendous speed or athleticism. But PG is his natural position. He reminds me a lot of Graham. Issac will make a lot of threes before he is done in Lawrence.

McBride Quotes, Articles etc... • Nov 14, 2018 02:36 PM

@KUSTEVE @Crimsonorblue22 you two might like this kid...

Some quotes from McBride per Scott Chasen

McBride: "I had a lot of factors. I believe that college is a very important step into a person's life, growing as a person. But the three really main factors that I had [started with my] development as a player — God giving me talent that I could use, glorifying him, so wherever I can develop it is hopefully going to be a place where I can get to the next level or somewhere where I can show God's talent to other people."

McBride: "Another factor was, of course, academics. Where can I push myself in the classroom, get a good education, a degree, so I can support my family in other ways? And the third thing would probably be the family environment, home environment, and also the atmosphere and the school and a place where I can worship God freely, have an opportunity not only just to play basketball, but to attend church, be in groups and be around people that will help me grow spiritually and as a man."

McBride: "Coach Self, of course, is a Hall of Fame coach. And Coach Self is a great coach. I believe he pushes his players to where they need to get to. You know, all their players of course have extremely amazing talent, but they always need a successful coach. And there's no other coach better than Coach Self himself. He's done a great job with other programs, too. ... I feel like Coach Self does a great job breaking down the games, game-film, breaking down what can happen in the game, making sure that situations are practiced."

McBride: "Coach Self has probably the greatest basketball mind out of any coaches that you could put in the top 10 or top 5. And it shows. His teams are successful. And after 14 straight conference championships in one of the best conferences in basketball, it shows that it's not just players. You have to have a coach always leading guys. And that's a big part of basketball. So I believe that Coach Self is amazing, and I love him. He's a great guy."

I did say they don't mean much through two games and just fun to look at. ;)

Bill Self Just Played a McDAA • Nov 14, 2018 03:54 AM

Speaking of advance stats... Udoka's offensive numbers look good in some areas, but forcing him the ball is not good offense. His offensive box plus/minus is -4.4. That's real bad. His ORTG is 106 which again is very bad. These are a product of KU struggling offensively despite what the total points say at the end of the game. However like you alluded to, these stats don't mean a ton through 2 games. They are especially wonky for Dave and Mitch, since they have barely played. Mitch's advanced stats right now are hilariously good, but that would not be the case if he was getting 20 minutes a game. Dedric's numbers are super bad. This should all even out, but fun to look at.

Garrett is looking more and more like another Bill Self pet player. I was hoping he would show some improvement. I still think he is a net positive on the floor, but it is painful to watch him shoot. I'm not sure he should play any position but the 4.

If we are to take Self at his word, we should see more of Dave going forward. I don't think Udoka is going to log too many 34 minute games.

@BShark Doeren would be a great hire if KU could get him this time, but Zenger may have burnt that bridge beyond repair. He's done a nice rebuild at NC State.

Personally, I think I would like Doeren to be the coach after Miles. Let Miles come here for however long and build the foundation and make KU an attractive place and then bring Doeren in after Miles to continue trying to elevate the program.

This is a really solid idea but like you said DD may be done with KU due to Zenger.
