On the bright side, Memphis hoops people have absolutely taken note of how Self is feeding Dedric. Could pay dividends down the line.
Don't see shit on Bill or KT here.

Yeah, makes a ton of sense. Pretty obvious why his mom wouldn't want him at KU.
I didn't get the sense that it was due to the FBI thing. However I could have just completely missed that as well
You could be right it might be different. Too bad they wouldn't just say lol.

@BShark my fantasy team, so far, is the worst in my league :joy:
RIP.
My football team is like that. Well, not the worst, but I've had two straight losses by less than 4 total points or I'd be in strong playoff contention...
IMPORTANT UPDATE: DESHAUN WATSON FINALLY SHOWED UP LAST NIGHT.
No problem.
For anyone wondering the rest are all on normal ESPN channels (so watchable through ESPN3) EXCEPT for home to Texas Tech and AT Okie Lite which are CBS games.
@kjayhawks @KUSTEVE It's kind of funny the different lens that we as KU fans view these players. Now see I'd agree with you guys, based on production he might not add up to being a OAD. Lots of basketball guys were gushing on Grimes last night and talking about him flashing some plays and that is why he will be OAD and drafted highly. Never forget NBA drafts on potential. If they like his game and think he can be a PG at 6'5'', he gone.

These early season KU games including exhibition all pretty much used to be at least on espn 3 ... now, because apparently more people are dropping cable, Disney wants to try the pay-as-you-go model and target certain audiences and get some income. Thus espn +.
I think there are only like 5 early season games that will be on espn + for those of us outside the KC area
- Emporia, Washburn, Louisiana, Wofford, South Dakota, Eastern Michigan. They are more spread out this year than usual, from what I remember.
@kjayhawks Dedric's jumper isn't some broke ass weak shit like Niang!!!!
Joking about Niang's form aside, that's actually a decent comp. I think Dedric is better but SR Niang was extremely productive.
I felt Dotson was much better than Moore overall. Moore just canned some threes. Dotson did a lot of nice things. No turnovers, got to the line.
Agree with your concerns about the team.
Considering how sloppy it was with all the turnovers 38 points is a solid victory margin even considering Ochai padded at the end. Over the last several seasons KU has won by less than 20 in one of the exhibitions. Plus who could forget 62-50 over Washburn in the 12-13 season.
It really speaks to the talent level of this team, imo. Just think of how good they will be when they learn how to play together and Self plays a tight, coherent rotation. :D
@KirkIsMyHinrich Self saying Dotson, Grimes and Garrett have separated themselves from the other guards and that Garrett has made a case to start.
;)

Ochai is going to RS
Factual insider info or gut feeling?

I had to cut off the Self interview early. Anything else interesting?
Not particularly. He is worried about MSU of course.

You really thought last year's team could get out in transition better than this one will?
I'm hoping this one will play much faster than last years. I think its just really really early. You could see the nerves with some guys.
It will be fun to watch this team evolve.
Agree. Once Self pushes buttons and gets rotations set this team will be so much better. They need to learn how to play together. Lots of room for growth.
Self says any future decision to redshirt Ochai Agbaji will be a decision made between the coaching staff, player and family. "My personal opinion is he's too good to play five minutes a game."
Dedric Lawson on Bill Self's postgame feedback: "He didn't praise me at all. He said it was the ugliest 31 (points) he's ever seen. And I agree with him."
Self saying Dotson, Grimes and Garrett have separated themselves from the other guards and that Garrett has made a case to start.
Also Vick was pretty off tonight with his shot. Other than that I thought he played alright.
approxinfinity said:
Well maybe deferred isn't the right word. But he looked lost trying to play with Dedric.
Yep. He's only ever played 4 out 1 in under Self.
jayballer73 said:
Question guys. Do you think Doke deferred to Dedric tonight? - -
Not really. I think he got double teamed a lot and hacked by ESU's small guys and didn't respond well to it.
ACCURATE
@KirkIsMyHinrich @approxinfinity Yeah, Doty did the best he could with the players he had tbh.
@Kcmatt7 Kid was about to commit to Wisconsin, KU got in there just in time. !alt text ↗

@KirkIsMyHinrich It was pretty good. I liked that Bahe color guy. I wish they would spend a few bucks, and lose the headsets for gueldner and his partner.
Said it earlier in the thread and the bar is low, but Bahe is probably the best color guy we have had for these JTV games.
approxinfinity said:
We sure we want Agbaji to redshirt?
Yes, actually. He can shoot and is athletic but he looked lost in other regards. If he isn't going to get many minutes this year and is willing, the year off just studying the game could really help him improve.
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
Agbaji looks good to me.
Ochai can shoot it a bit

Strangely, I'm no longer worried about the point guard play. Dotson and Moore have been great. But, what's up with the front court? Except for Dedric, the front court didn't show up.
Moore has shot good, but overall this game I think he has been below average as a PG. Like, entry passes and initiating the offense have not been really good for him. I'd prefer Garrett in that role even.

Hey we broke 80.

There you go, Grimes.
Bang!
Great to see that go in. He needs to shoot with confidence and he will be fine.
His stroke looks real, real nice. Like form-wise, nothing I see wrong.
Agree. I want him shooting it when open. He was scared to do so earlier and drove into a clogged lane instead.

Lawson is the real deal, isn't he?
Thank goodness, because the rest of this team...
ESU was winning the 2nd half for a second there...
23 turnovers
Might not break 80 against Emporia yikes.
SOFT call.
It's w/e but ESU basically gets to murder Doke and Dave inside lol. Tends to happen when the other team is undersized.
Dedric makes everything work. 30 mpg imo.
ESU getting wide open 3s

@BShark I'm starting to see what Vecenie was talking about. Of Doke and Silvio, objectively speaking, I'd take Silvio, but they ARE redundant.
Yeah, this roster has 3 guys that have to play C w/ Silvio.

Yeesh. Rough night for Azubuike.

You absolutely have to let it fly there. WIDE OPEN.
<3 Garrett
WOOF
Btw, Bahe is doing a pretty good job on color commentary! Like, way better than the guys we have had in the past for this games.
Loved the defensive effort.
