Reading between the lines I think it's pretty clear that the choice will 100% be KU if it happens within the next week as expected.

@jayballer54 lol

It's from the Texas site. It's going to be as Texas slanted as possible and it says they still expect KU to be the choice.

There have been reports De Sousa has taken the standardized test, however, Falmagne indicated Angola native De Sousa, who moved to the United States a couple of years ago, will take a standardized test on Saturday.

“It’s not going to come down to the test, but more the core credits he has that transfer from back home,” Falmagne said. “The NCAA will have to look at all the credits he got. Is it something they will allow to transfer … see how many that is, see where he’s at.”

Falmagne said De Sousa, who has not yet returned his letter-of-intent to KU (that will happen in the next couple days; the week-long signing period runs until next Wednesday), could find out if he’s allowed to play for KU this season sooner rather than later.
“Probably Monday or Tuesday,” Falmagne said.

In the past, however, it has taken the NCAA much longer to make decisions on such eligibility matters.

Falmagne said he had no doubt De Sousa, 19, could contribute to KU’s team right away.

“I think the kid is a pro,” Falmagne said. “I mean athletically he can play in the NBA today. So now it’s just the mental aspect. It’s growing. He’s working on it.”

As far as De Sousa’s progress at IMG this semester, Falmagne said: “He is doing extremely well. He’s definitely an All-American. He has been good on the court and in the classroom as well.”

At one point, after his sophomore year, De Sousa was the No. 2-rated player in the country by at least one recruiting service but dropped after returning to Luanda, Angola to represent his country in international basketball.

“He truly is a freak of nature,” Falmagne told The Star after the power forward committed to KU in August. “His upside is just out of this world. He’s a kid that can put his shoulder on the rim. He can dribble, he can shoot, he can post up, he has great footwork. He can play the game of basketball. More than that, he’s just a great kid,” Falmagne added.

De Sousa chose KU over Maryland, UCLA, Oregon and Indiana. He also had Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisville, North Carolina, Syracuse and others on his list.

KU coach Bill Self cannot comment on De Sousa until KU receives the signed letter-of-intent.

From a 247 article

There’s still no clarity on whether Quentin Grimes, the 6-foot-5-inch combo guard from The Woodlands College Park, will sign during the early period. If he does, Kansas is expected to be the pick, although the Longhorns have made up some ground of late according to our sources.

While Kansas appears to be out in front, sources on the Texas side of things continue to tell Horns247 that the Longhorns aren’t as far behind in the race for Grimes as some might think. Again, even though the Jayhawks are the favorite, the Longhorns and Jai Lucas have done enough to see it through to the end with Grimes.

“I think he ends up at Kansas,” an industry source told me. “But if he ends up at Texas I won’t be shocked. I’ll be surprised though.”

@jayballer54 I think 95% of it is Shaka.

@jayballer54 Lol too true.

But yeah the more I read it sounds like you were right, Texas was the biggest threat.

"Recruiting: Quentin Grimes is expected to choose between Kansas and Texas soon."

@jayballer54 Supposedly there will be an official announcement today. They also will get getting his LOI in to KU today, which he signed yesterday of course.

SILVIO DESOUSA • Nov 09, 2017 08:23 PM

@jayballer54 First of all an update: Official KU journos saying it's not set in stone yet.

So if it happens, he doesn't lose a half year, this would simply be his FR year. So next season he would be a Sophomore.

Arizona commit Brandon Williams won't sign this fall. Not a good sign and can't say I blame him without knowing the fall out from Arizona

Shaqtus JR isn't signing either. My guess is neither ends up there. Arizona fans should enjoy this season because it's about to get rough.

Garrett, Jacobs, McCormack and likely Grimes. For those keeping score at home.

Before that he had only really landed Cliff so it's good to see him get some kids on board.

There is a person in his camp that wants this, but it's looking like they have been tuned out or that person has just accepted it.

I will be very glad once Grimes has, presumably, signed with KU and this person is no longer a concern.

Tifwiw but I read on a Marquette forum that Grimes said on his visit there that he is headed to Kansas. The source is a current player on the Marquette team.

This honestly does make sense given how quickly Marquette seemed to move on after the visit and their insiders are saying they are out etc...

Kids will be fine I really just found the automation process of making video with computer algorithms to be interesting.

This class is shaping up to be one of Bill's best. Love the combination of OAD types (Grimes, maybe Langford/Zion) plus program builders that won't leave us scrambling for guys over the next few years. Bill's more experienced teams tend to be the better ones anyway, so I could see a run like we had from 07-12 coming.

18 + 19 has the chance to be a very special 2 class combination. Self can afford to be very choosy in the 19 class where KU seems to be quite well positioned.

Like the sounds of this for sure. They both feel these guys are going to be multi year players. Big rough Physical players inside . I'm not really worried about them being really big time scorers inside myself - -if we can get them to put up 10-11 points a game maybe - -then 8-9 rebounds per I would be good with that. - -One thing this hasn't lacked in the past few years is the options of scorers. - We don't need HUGE numbers from them - just enough to keep teams honest.

Then Dotson - that's my boy - -so dam quick and looks pretty fearless, loves to drive the ball. - -We add Grimes I'm going to sleep really good.

Like they said looks like we sitting up for some long term success . - This is the 1st time in some years isn't it we have had this kind of early commit for some time right? - like possibly the last 6-7 years maybe? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

The best part is they don't need to be big time scorers next season. They can take their time and develop because KU already has a big time post scorer on the roster, Dedric Lawson.

New Kansas Poll About Rivalries • Nov 08, 2017 09:41 PM

@Red-Rooster Sounds like you are staying strong and doing your best. That's really all you can do. I am afraid my step-dad (who had much more of a positive impact in my life than my actual father) will soon be in a similar state. I remember his mom at the end, it's similar to you mother. She specifically had Parkinsons for sure and I don't recall exactly what else. I was worried last night when I received a call that he might have passed, based on the last time I saw him. He seems to be doing a little better for now, but is dehydrated again (he has dysphagia and does not like drinking anything because it requires a thickener).

That would be fun. Also Danny is getting some good players in there so it might be a win/win.

The Playah Evan Daniels • Nov 08, 2017 07:03 PM

So does Jerry Meyer

Jerry Meyer:

I like the Kansas class as far as having talented recruits who are likely multi-year college players. Devon Dotson is a five-star and tremendous player and competitor. He will remind Kansas fans of Frank Mason. They share the same qualities and a similar game.

And the two big guys - Silvio De Sousa and David McCormack - are ranked as high four-stars and project to be around Kansas for a while. They are both physical and talented players, custom built for the high/low attack that Bill Self loves to run.

The Playah Evan Daniels • Nov 08, 2017 07:03 PM

Loves KU's class already.

Evan Daniels:

Truth be told, with so few potential one and done players in 2018, you could pick a number of different classes for this category. I’ll go with Kansas because I think all three of their current 2018 commitments are very talented, but also each should be in Lawrence for at the very least a couple of years, if not all four.

Devon Dotson is a dynamic floor general that continues to get better and better. He’s made strides over the course of his four-year career and consistently progressed. He’s equipped to efficiently run a team and make good decisions, he’s become more athletic and he competes on both ends. Dotson is a nice fit for what Bill Self wants in his point guards.

Then in the paint the Jayhawks secured commitments from two top 50 prospects in Silvio De Sousa and David McCormack. Both are physical, tough and bruising post players that are productive in the paint. Neither are great scorers, although both are capable, where they impact things is with their energy, activity and rebounding. I think this Kansas class is set up for long term success.

I also considered going with Maryland, Notre Dame or Texas.

Unfortunately I could not watch the game. I cut cable and I cannot get ESPN3 and most of the streaming providers do not seem to have ESPN3 either.

Anyway, Svi had 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals; had he made 2 or 3 of his 7 3-point tries (made 4-6 from inside the arc) we would be saying he had a nice game...going strictly by the numbers. His 8 rebounds (7 DR) are just 1 less than Doke and more than anyone else in the team. Take the 8 assists by Graham and Svi has more assists than the rest of the team combined, his 3 steals are tops on the team tied with Garret and as many as the rest of the team combined. He must have been playing some defense to get those defensive rebounds and steals and involved in offense to have 5 assists. Yes, his shooting from the 3 was way off but other aspects of his game do not seem that bad, at least looking at just the numbers and we know his outside shooting will be better in the future.

Svi was 0-7 from three. I posted the box score earlier in this thread.

Svi was bad defensively. Trust me.

@HighEliteMajor Yep...Self agrees...

“I was disappointed in their effort,” Self added of Newman and Mykhailiuk. “We didn’t start them the second half. We wanted to play Marcus (Garrett, seven boards, three points, 23 minutes) to give us energy. Marcus made four plays the first two minutes that Svi and Malik either don’t make or can’t make from an activity standpoint. I thought it was good for those two to see Marcus out there doing that.

“The reality is,” Self said, after a game in which Devonté Graham scored 27 points on 6-of-10 three-point shooting and everybody else was 3 of 21 combined, “when you’ve got a couple of guys who are supposed to be two of your better players that don’t compete and others who don’t understand ball movement and where to be, you are going to look bad.”

I mentioned this in the game chat...

“We’ve got some issues guarding the ball. They just go around Malik and Svi too much and Billy (Preston, 11 points) and Mitch (Lightfoot, no points, three rebounds, 16 minutes). That’s four of our eight guys they just attack them off the bounce. We’ve got to do a better job guarding the ball.

Except I didn't bring up Mitch. I don't think he matters as much to the long term success of this team.

“Marcus Garrett did things neither one of them (Mykhailiuk, Newman) right now can do,” Self said. “You don’t play with activity and that is our whole thing with Svi and Malik is to play with activity. You don’t play with activity and people minus Devonté go 3-for-21 (from three). That is a formula to get your (behind) handed to you.

“It was a good learning experience. It was good we played poorly to be honest, to start the season, so we can get our guys’ attention in the next couple of days.”

Where are our ball hawks??? Devonte...31 minutes 1 steal. Legerald Vick ...no steals. Newman...no steals. Svi and Garrett had 3 steals apiece, but our transition offense was almost non-existent. Heck, Liangelo Ball stole more from a store in China than our whole team did last night. This team is way too athletic to not get out and run. Man oh man, talk about cakewalking a game...

Garrett might be the only guard interested in playing defense. Hopefully that rubs off on the others...

They aren't little kids - they have to find a way to contribute besides just shooting. This isn't rocket science.

Agree. Self mentioned only Graham and Garrett played well. Garrett not exactly filling up buckets, but doing everything else well. Newman and Svi should pay attention to his effort.
