It's easy to read that as Self jumping out in front of it.

Exactly. Grimes would play the 2 and Langford the 3 in Self's preferred offense. I don't really think they affect each other. Langford is looking more if Vick stays or goes, if anything.

I think if he is willing to come then it's not hard for Vick to go pro, in fact maybe recommended to do so, to tell Langford there is a spot for him.

This goes back to the Selden v JJ thing and I'm sure some will disagree with me on it.

Hope you're right, but it appears we are in for a very, very long and hard fought economic war for the soul/sole of the game. And I believe we are still quite early in the asymmetric strategic-tactical exploitation of the legal-political constraint.

If you are saying more will come of this I agree. Still very early in the process.

Is this a serious attack on adidas market share for challenging TPTB?

adidas appears practically marginalized already in its apparent ability to supply top talent in competitive quantities!

What must TPTB be doing?

Holy cow! Whatta world!

They are getting anyone they can. Multiple Nike and UA guys too. One of the Adidas execs just recently left Nike for Adidas, so the transgressions probably took place while at Nike.

It's probably not out of the possibility that De-Sousa/McCormack are insurance in case the Lawson's don't work out for some reason.

Self has essentially recruited over Lightfoot which could be his calling card to look elsewhere. That seems unlikely but today's kids do the unthinkable.

He's already recruited for Preston & Doke leaving as well. Gone are the days these recruits are the backups

I think Mitch is more likely to take a RS than transfer. However if he is the 4th big next year which is quite possible I don't think he would RS or transfer.

Whiff City • Sep 26, 2017 01:05 AM

It's about landing kids and coaching. KSU was foolish for firing Martin.

South Carolina's best players last year.

Sindarius Thornwell #32 ranked in class of 2013. SR.
PJ Dozier #25 ranked in class of 2015. SO.
Chris Silva #161 ranked in class of 2015. SO.

They also had a foreign player that was probably underranked a bit. Then mostly role players. Martin is a hell of a coach.

They will be tested this year though. They lost ten yes TEN players from last year's roster including their far and away two best in Dozier and Thornwell.

David is the perfect recruit to sign with us. He is still a bit of a project player, only needing the polishing touches to set him up as a top NBA pick, probably within 2 years. As others have said, Hudy must be licking her chops in excitement to bring David into her program. David has done a great job himself in bringing down his weight. Now, he needs toning, mostly aerobic conditioning to handle the speed of D1. My hopes are we can keep him for at least two years.

I think it is a big plus he has been playing with Billy at Oak Hill. They surely must already have some chemistry built, and I can't stress how important it is to have two prolific scoring big men who have established chemistry.

Watch David's videos. One thing pops out more than anything else. After he finishes in the paint he gives a hard stare down to his opponent. He's a real competitor with big man swagger... something we haven't had in a long time. Basketball is still a street game. I know it is the playground ball in me, but I still think swagger is one of the key factors in winning, especially in the low post, where your big men truly defend the rim.

This recruit class promises to be a great one for us. We've been quick out of the blocks and our momentum is riding high!

3-4 year player probably. He has talked about getting his degree. Now if he absolutely explodes then perhaps he comes back later to finish his schoolwork. Sounds like a really grounded kid overall though.

As for his relationship with Preston, I do think that played a factor. It certainly didn't hurt. Quote from an article: “I know him well. Billy is one of my boys,” McCormack said, acknowledging “there’s no way of telling” if Preston will be at KU as a sophomore.

As for how relevant swagger is, the 2012 team almost won a NC off of swagger and grit. So there is that.

The future journalism major — he wants to be a sports announcer someday — once described his game as “big” to the Lexington Herald-Leader. Kentucky at one point was involved in his recruitment as well as Maryland, Georgetown, Baylor, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, VCU and others.

“I can play the outside game to an extent. I know my bread and butter is inside,” he said Sunday. “I’m looking forward to playing as a freshman and giving forth whatever I can bring to the team.”

““He’ll do what you ask him to do,” Smith told USA Today. “He has a great attitude and he’s a great student. He’s a big guy and there’s not many 5-men who want to play down low. Dave knows what he is and goes to work.”

The McCormack File • Sep 25, 2017 03:33 PM

If Doke is gone the door is certainly open for him to start next to Dedric. It would be a tough competition between McCormack and De Sousa. I think both are solid fits next to Dedric. If Doke is back, Doke is starting.

If Doke does come back, Mitch might want to take a redshirt.

I saw that and thought the same thing. Steere is a quality big, not surprised he might end up in-state after all

Yeah when KU showed interest I was thinking he'd be a solid get. Good 4 year player in a class light on bigs. I can't blame KU for not pressing for him though* and things sure worked out with LB gifting De Sousa and then KU closing fast on McCormack.

*Which brings up an interesting topic. More and more "lower level" schools are prioritizing fringe top 100-150 recruits and getting them early. The kids want to play so it makes sense for them as well. But until you get the kid actually signed it opens up the door for stuff like this. Loads of early period commitments in this class and I think we will see a lot more before it's all said and done.

NC State was one of the main competitors for McCormack. Took an official there and their coach visited McCormack I think more than once. Just an example of the domino effect that can sometimes happen in recruiting.

For @BeddieKU23 a quote from his mother

“This means the world to me,” said McCormack’s mother, Janine, who joined the broadcast’s final 30 seconds. “I’m so proud of David and I support my son 100 percent. I think he made a wonderful decision.”

Talking about Zion's mother not wanting him to be far away from home. What is it lately and KU recruits being negatively recruited by their mothers. Good lord let your son do what he wants!

Josh Jackson and Billy Preston though!

Honestly it's very important to recruit the parents. Self is typically very good at this.

I would at least understand it with Zion. Kansas is very far from SC and it's just one year. Would be hilarious if he picked Clemson.

Anyway, he is the type of player Bill should have on his team every year: big, burly, aggressive player. He'll knock some noggins. Give me a guy like this any day of the week over a Carlton Bragg. Let the guards shoot the 3 pointers - welcome back, muscle.

He is highly rated but is also probably a four year player. During his recruitment he actually mentioned planning to get his degree and what he wanted to major in iirc. That's...pretty rare and refreshing.

Agree completely, great fit for Self/KU.

Welcome David McCormack • Sep 25, 2017 12:08 AM

According to National Recruiting Analyst Andrew Slater, McCormack's hard work on his body has made him a much more explosive player on the court.

David McCormack has always had a great deal of relative low-post skill, but the transformation of his physique since arriving at Oak Hill Academy has helped him remain on the court much longer and create additional explosion," said Slater. The 6'10" Virginia native is one of the most efficient low-post players in the class, but has also looked to steadily improve his face-up shot from the high-post," he added.

According to Slater, McCormack's already polished offensive game and his ability to block shots and hit glass will immediately stand out to Kansas fans.

Offensively, he's relatively polished for his age. Like the earlier Jayhawk commitment Silvio De Sousa, McCormack now rebounds at an exceptional level on both ends of the court," said Slater. "With the improved athleticism, the five-star senior has developed into a more effective post defender, particularly as a weak-side shot-blocker. He still needs to trim his physique more, work on his lateral quickness, become a better overall defender, and cut down on his turnovers. Overall, landing Dave McCormack will be both an immediate rotational player with his rebounding and low-post skill as well as one who brings the ability to develop into an all-Big 12 honors type of big man as an upperclassman," added Slater.

Welcome David McCormack • Sep 25, 2017 12:07 AM

"A beast down low with a physically attacking post game," said Meyer. "McCormack also has mobility, a mind for the game and a penchant for positional defense," he added.
McCormack's size and strength allow him to get position on the low block and to bury his defender underneath the basket.

"McCormack is a beast on the blocks," said Meyer. He has great size and plays a physically attacking game. You won't see a lot of fade away jumpers from McCormack. He loves to attack the defense with aggressive moves to the basket. Defensively he has the size and mind for the game to make him a strong positional defender," Meyer added.

Backs up what I was saying in the first post. He could quickly become a fan favourite.

@BShark Well, that's a good question Fizzou is 1-3 just like us. Their stats mirror ours in a number of ways, both teams beat an FCS club and haven't been closer than double digits to an FBS win. They are averaging 25 ppg to our 32 and giving up 40 to our 39 . One could argue that they have played a tougher schedule, which is true but neither team has competed at a high level. The last few years of the rivalry in football thanks to Gill didn't end well for us. Think of how bad we would've murdered them in basketball the past few years.

Missouri the last couple years in basketball probably would have legit been the worst team on KU's schedule. Crazy.

And yeah...I think KU would give them a game in football this year...
