@jayballer54

KU will get another big. Can't say who it will be at this point, but Self will add a post player.

@BeddieKU23 said in Crootin Thread III, Wherein Some Players Probably Commit to KU:

@BShark

yeah the Lawson brothers have eliminated his impact and minutes

Which sucks, I don't want him at ISU

While he will help ISU, I still don't know if they are a tournament team next year. Given the choice I think you take the Lawsons every time.

Malik Newman Offensive Highlights • Apr 17, 2017 03:26 PM

@BeddieKU23

Agree. And being injured was definitely a factor for him. Hopefully he stays healthy this year.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 17, 2017 03:25 PM

@justanotherfan

The good news is Self will have him play in the post some. Hopefully Self gets through to him on the effort thing.

Malik Newman Offensive Highlights • Apr 17, 2017 03:10 PM

@BeddieKU23

Hopefully Newman is willing to put the effort and work in defensively. It's not like he left a situation where he had a rummy for a coach, it was Ben friggin Howland.

@BeddieKU23

Being reported now that Juiston won't visit KU. Tilmon visit should def happen. Gotta think Juiston ends up at ISU now.

Lawson Brothers Coming to KU • Apr 17, 2017 03:07 PM

@ralster

Preston will start.

Angels vs Royals -- Game 2 • Apr 16, 2017 03:19 AM

@kjayhawks

Very good effort out of Karns. Nice to see some wins.

Sean miller • Apr 16, 2017 03:18 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

No. It's in the firing thread. I posted that he offered Romar. Guess I was just assuming that Romar would accept immediately.

Sean miller • Apr 16, 2017 02:15 AM

I feel like I posted this awhile back. Maybe it wasn't official at the time.

Malik Newman Offensive Highlights • Apr 15, 2017 10:52 PM

@kjayhawks

Might be a tall order with Graham and Preston around.

@KUSTEVE

Newman stay more than one year with KU? Not if he has the season we are hoping for.

@Crimsonorblue22 said in Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape:

@BShark I read somewhere he showed up w/a film crew his first day of practice, at asu.

Correct.

@HighEliteMajor said in Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape:

@BShark PER is an odd animal sometimes. Graham's was 17.4 last season, Svi's PER was just 14.1, and Vick 12.7.

A 16 PER for Cunliffe would actually be amazing, I think -- so thrilled is a good term.

Mason was 25.5 and JJ 24.1.

Just as info, Wiggins was 21.4 in his season, and Embiid was 28.2. Marcus Morris' 29.3 in 2010-11 was the best I could find for a Kansas player under Self.

Yeah, I don't think he will next year for the record. As advanced stats go, Cunliffe was pretty bad in general. But so was the entire ASU team really. So in part it's all about context as well. For example Tyler Self had a better DRTG than Cunliffe, but we know Self never played meaningful minutes. Overall, I just didn't like what I saw of Cunliffe as well. He's intriguing though, and I am definitely interested to see how he fits with this KU team and I'd love to ultimately be proven wrong about him.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 15, 2017 04:31 PM

Cunliffe CAN become a very good player for KU, but he needs a lot of seasoning.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 15, 2017 04:29 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Lacks basketball skills. He will do something amazing athletically, then he will do something completely baffling. If you are really bored at some point I recommend watching all the ASU games he played in last year. They should still all mostly be on youtube.

The expectations thing is mainly that thread on the phog. I think some people in that thread are thinking Cunliffe is going to do a lot more than he actually will next season. I'd be thrilled with him if he was the 7th man and got his PER up to like, 16.

Malik Newman Offensive Highlights • Apr 15, 2017 03:24 PM

@Kcmatt7

Yeah he was trying to generate his own tough looks from three. With the players KU has, if he just lets the game come to him, he should be great.

The last time I can remember this much positive talk from around the program about a player sitting it was BMac.

Feeling like it might rain here.

Malik Newman Offensive Highlights • Apr 15, 2017 02:18 PM

@DonLentile

The year off to just work on his game is huge.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 15, 2017 02:17 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Hope so.

But yeah I feel like there are some KU fans (not particularly on this board) that are setting themselves up for disappointment with Cunliffe. Hell of an athlete though so his potential is quite high.

Malik Newman Offensive Highlights • Apr 15, 2017 01:13 PM

Rumoured to be unguardable in KU practice.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 15, 2017 01:12 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Sam lacks basketball skills. Newman and Preston are black holes that aren't know for defense. I'm excited for Malik, clearly, given my current avatar. Also very excited for Preston, who is extremely talented. The potential for next year is through the roof, but we need Newman and Preston to "unpack their bags" like Josh did.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 15, 2017 03:54 AM

@stoptheflop

It won't be like Cheick. There isn't any murky area like there was with Cheick. He will have either made up the needed credits (probably) or he won't have. We know the NCAA isn't accepting the API credits. Possible he will need some summer school.

@BeddieKU23 said in Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape:

His perimeter skills remind of some stars of the NBA. Will he defend, will he take shots within the offense are my major questions. We will see what Self can do with him for the short time he gets

Self has his work cut out for him with Preston, Newman and Cunliffe.

Oh and Josh is definitely not a fair comparison. Not too many Josh level athletes in any given class.

Lawson Brothers Coming to KU • Apr 14, 2017 10:28 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

They can crawl back into their hole any time now. No room to talk, considering Cal and Pastner, imo.

Frank Mason hilight video • Apr 14, 2017 09:19 PM

When you think about just how many players do play in the NBA (rotations are super deep) there is really no reason Frank can't stick. He's so good. If he wants a long career as a back-up PG I think he can do that. If he wants to start at some point though, Europe is his best bet. I wish him well no matter where he ends up. Great Jayhawk.

@jayballer54

I think it's pretty likely that Tilmon will end up at Missouri. Hard to pass on starting...

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 14, 2017 09:13 PM

He's really old for his class btw, I believe he will be 20 by the time he plays a game for KU.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 14, 2017 09:11 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Should get some fun ones out of Mitch this year. Kid is a very real talent that much is for sure. Issue has always been qualifying and effort. I imagine he will be pretty polarizing for the fan base.

Billy Get Buckets Preston SR Mixtape • Apr 14, 2017 09:05 PM

@jayballer54

Two. Staff wants a post player and a ball handling guard.

@jayballer54 said in Crootin Thread III, Wherein Some Players Probably Commit to KU:

@BShark Another Pg from Maryland? - -who is the one from Maryland? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Quickley is from MD. The last guard KU signed from MD...you guessed it....Josh Selby.

@jayballer54

Correct KU is seeing Tilmon and Quickley today. I'd be surprised if KU landed another PG from Maryland tbqh...

http://247sports.com/Player/Immanuel-Quickley-85421 ↗

There were some reclass rumours with him, so maybe that's why the staff is checking in today...

@jayballer54 said in Crootin Thread III, Wherein Some Players Probably Commit to KU:

@BShark - Ahh, Ok so it was Allen only visit was for here right now? - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Yes. Very much reads like he is waiting for a commit-able KU offer.

@jayballer54

That was about Thomas Allen, not Juiston.

Marcus Garrett SR Highlights • Apr 14, 2017 03:05 PM

@justanotherfan

Pretty solid take.

Fwiw the word on him back as far as when he committed to KU was that he needs to work on his shot. Considering where guys like Frank ended up, I'm confident he will improve it.

As far as defense, we only have the word of people that have seen him play full games, since defensive fundamentals will never be put in a highlight package. However I have read, from different places, that he is a very sound and committed defender.

Marcus Garrett SR Highlights • Apr 14, 2017 01:01 PM

@Kcmatt7

Needs to work with Bruce! :p

@approxinfinity Can you lock this up?

Marcus Garrett SR Highlights • Apr 14, 2017 03:17 AM

@KUSTEVE

Yep. He was extremely well coached in HS, not often that a coach formerly at a P5 school is coaching HS ball. So he already knows what it's like to play in a structured offense. No AAU distractions either.

I was actually going to lock this but I could only delete it, which I won't do. Odd.

Let it die fam.

Future 3-4yr center? • Apr 14, 2017 03:05 AM

@CostaRicanHawk

Posted my thoughts on it in the @bshark thread.

Marcus Garrett SR Highlights • Apr 14, 2017 03:01 AM

@KUSTEVE

Kid is a STUD BEAST. Unless KU lands Duval (which I think we all pretty much strongly doubt) then Garrett starts the season as the 1st guard off the bench with Graham, Newman and Vick starting.

@bshark • Apr 14, 2017 02:58 AM

Coleby is certainly good enough to be the 4th big. Just keep restin that knee big fella.

@bshark • Apr 14, 2017 02:50 AM

Preston definitely shouldn't and likely won't be playing any center. I think the staff is very much interested in another post player, in fact they have made it quite clear. They seem fine with it being more of a forward or a true center, so long as they get another post player. Tilmon would be the only hope at this point for a true back-up center. I think the team will be fine regardless of if it's Tilmon, Juiston, Brooks, Wooten, whoever.

Also for the record St Johns pulled their offer from Brown. ST JOHNS. I hope the kid turns his life around wherever he may end up.

@JayHawkFanToo

He had a pretty bad game in their loss too.

Future 3-4yr center? • Apr 14, 2017 02:19 AM

He has a very troubled and violent criminal past among other issues. Basically, the last thing the program needs right now.

@Kcmatt7

Give Self that Zona team and he is winning the natty for sure.

JR Trier, FR Ayton, FR Randolph, FR Lee, SO Alkins. Also SR PJC and Ristic, JR Comanche. These are all like 4 and 5 star guys. Crazy.

Allonzo Trier coming back. WUT.

It’s been pretty cool just having guys like Bill Self coming out to my school to meet with me,” Allen said. “All of the coaches are letting me know how much they need me next season and of course that feels good. I’m planning to take a visit to Kansas; I’m not sure when, but that’s the only visit I have planned for now. It’s just part of the game. I was committed, but now I have to figure it out again. I’m not complaining.”

KU has reached out to MSU decommit Garrison Brooks. Common thought is he will end up at UNC.

Thoughts on Graham/Svi decision • Apr 13, 2017 04:16 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Yep! PF in a wing's body.

I would favour Tilmon because he has more time to develop whereas we know what Juiston is at this point more or less. If we are purely talking about next year only then I would say it's tougher to call.
