So in the 18 class these kids are all on the Adidas circuit: Zion, Grimes, Langford and McCormack.

Odds are, KU won't even make final cuts for Zion or Langford. Grimes is a perceived KU lean but we know how that goes lately. Remind me again why KU sticks with Adidas?

@BigBad

The handlers of the players. Probably zero chance KU ever lands another player from that shady basketball academy Cheick went to (if it's still around). Stuff like that unfortunately sticks with a coach. For us as fans it is easy to look into why things happened the way they did but in recruiting perception is often reality. Hell Selby still gets brought up as we found out this year. Ridiculous really.

Hopefully recruiting picks up, a lot of good local ties in 19.

@BigBad

Why would they be that interested after Cliff/Diallo/Bragg? And I know Bragg isn't a center. I hope Doke plays well next year.

@BigBad

Bragg was pretty overrated as it turns out. I admit I was very wrong about him I thought he would be a good player. But at this point, he looks like he should transfer to a team in the MVC. Probably best for Bragg and KU. I wish him the best if he transfers.

@BigBad is right. KU's front court this year was midmajor level. It's just a fact. Nothing against Landen he played his butt off.

Marcus Evans will transfer from Rice. This is an upgrade type transfer for the kid. Was around 20ppg first two years.

CJ Moore‏Verified account @CJMooreBR 1h1 hour ago

Bill Self has a better tourney win% than Knight, Rupp, John Thompson, Boeheim, Tark & Iba. If he makes E8 next year, he’ll pass Dean Smith.

Why get mad? • Mar 27, 2017 04:19 PM

I just assume that everyone who is frothing mad, calling for Self's head etc is probably under 30 years old.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 04:18 PM

Yeah there is no point in applying for the extra year if you don't plan to be around 5 years.

@jayballer54

A 5 star in his second year. Been awhile since KU had that.

@jayballer54

Dorsey maybe. The rest are 4 star types. Altman is a good coach.

Ha you think it's bad • Mar 27, 2017 03:27 PM

UK has a lot of drunk tshirt fans.

Yeah I don't think anyone here has called for Self to be fired or even on the hot seat but it's quite possible I missed a post as I haven't been reading everything.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 03:15 PM

My guess

Jackson goes (DUH).

Graham and Svi stay (they might "declare" but won't hire an agent and will come back).

Bragg transfers to a nice mid-major.

Calipari Second Title Incoming • Mar 27, 2017 03:11 PM

@Eric-san is firmly #teamSelf

@jaybate-1.0

You are looking at it through the lens of how it turned out. Self signed Cliff, Diallo and Bragg. All big time HS post prospects at the time of their signing. Diallo and Bragg had UK offers.

Guards I would not disagree. Outside of Josh the staff lucked into Svi, while Mason and Graham were post grads that Self developed. Now the only guard signed in this class is Garrett, whose HS coach is friends with Self. We need to see things turn around for the 18 class. Gotta close Grimes (with the help of Adidas perhaps?).

@Blown

I've seen anywhere from 6'7'' to 6'9''. Truth probably lies somewhere in between. But yeah he is a good player, but not close to a OAD type.

The party should start soon. I agree KU needs a PG.

By a 5 star OAD 5 you mean 6'7'' Jordan Bell that was ranked between 50-75 and is currently a JR? Because that's what Oregon trotted out there and kicked KU's butt with.

May we never be UK fans.

I choose to believe in my head that this thread did work. :wink:

No.

Congrats Frank Martin • Mar 26, 2017 08:51 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

At this point I would love to see South Carolina and Oregon face off just to see KSU fans be extra sad.

And yeah I'm cheering for Oregon. ESPECIALLY if UK wins today.

This is getting tiring. • Mar 26, 2017 08:50 PM

@betterfireE

Graham has been a complimentary player his entire career at KU. It would definitely do him some good to come back and have a starring role imo.

Congrats Frank Martin • Mar 26, 2017 08:49 PM

I'm glad KSU was stupid. Hell of a coach.

Me too! A lot of KU "fans" should go try being a Missouri fan.

Dwight still has a year.

Sam will help after 9 games

Admittedly I forgot about Coleby. Didn't list Cunliffe since I figured there is no way he could possibly leave given the circumstances.

@BigBad

Graham is a really good college player but it was made clear last night why he likely isn't an NBA guy. I think Frank has a better chance to stick. Never a starter but a guy that hangs around the league a bit as a back-up PG. He can really shoot it and is actually athletic, just short. Newman is pretty athletic, we just need to hope he has really taken to coaching in his year off.

@Blown said:

We have been 1 dimensional all year.

Excellent 3

Average perimeter D

Below average interior d

Below average low post scoring

Below average free throw

All of those factored in last night

Like I said earlier this year, a slightly better version of the good recent ISU teams. We have been spoiled with good interior play in the past, and I hope it returns.

@BigBad said:

If at Late Night we were told that: Bragg would have ZERO impact on the season and Azibuke would be lost due to injury what would have been the expectations for this team?

I would bet that EVERYONE would agree that an Elite 8 run would be outstanding.

Agree. The reason people are mad is because the FF was so close, but this team overachieved.

@Texas-Hawk-10

Graham, Svi and Lucas have decent size for their positions, athleticism is the issue.

@Texas-Hawk-10

It was somewhat hilarious when K chastised Brooks last year.

This is getting tiring. • Mar 26, 2017 05:07 PM

I want to see Graham come back as much as anyone but he will not be Mason-ish next year, just not the same kind of player.

This is getting tiring. • Mar 26, 2017 05:07 PM

Graham's lack of athleticism really showed last night. Dorsey/Graham and Bell/Lucas is where Oregon had clear cut drastic advantages.

The height and weight might be comparable but they are worlds apart.

Everyone needs a day to process the loss. Nothing productive ever comes from bagging on things when the loss is so fresh. I'm just as guilty of it as the next person on here.

It sucks we lost especially how we played to get to this point. And the guys just didn't respond how we hoped or wanted them too.

Well said. This board has been really great in comparison to the drivel on 247 and phog though.

@Blown

Self has openly commented about how hard elite eight games are. And the players have been tight you could really say in every EE game. In 2012 KU bullied a UNC team missing their PG, in 2008 they escaped Davidson in an otherwise great tournament that ended fantastically.

This is getting tiring. • Mar 26, 2017 03:52 PM

@Blown

I was so, so wrong about Bragg. :frowning:

This is getting tiring. • Mar 26, 2017 03:51 PM

@BigBad

Duke always closes their leans it seems. Team USA thing helps a lot and K is a "living legend". Lately UK misses a fair bit, if you look at the final classes for them they aren't bad because they need a ton of guys every year but 2015 in particular UK missed on a lot of their first choices. Self seems to have good and bad spurts in recruiting. Diallo and now Bragg struggling has hurt a lot. Now with Bragg it's very clear that he just isn't as good as his HS hype, but it still hurts in recruiting. Fortunately Josh was fantastic this year and I hope Preston and Doke tear it up next year. We have seen what having unathletic bigs looks like and it's not pretty.

@Big-Clyde52 said:

@BShark And only 59 points last year in the EE. That is the problem. We go from averaging over 90 down to scoring 60. The Dux D is good, but not that good. We just looked flat all night and it only takes one flat game to send you home.

Agree. It's a very negative trend and denying it at this point seems crazy. For whatever reason, Self's teams play tight in EE games. Even in the wins.

@Blown said:

I remember in 2003 when Roy missed all those free throws. That was annoying, too.

Not the same thing we are talking about now 7 games for Self at KU where the team has played tight. Players do pick up on things from their coach. There are still very few coaches I would trade Self for though.

@Eric-san

Fair enough. I think we have enough evidence to say it's more than coincidence with Self and the EE at this point. But I mean, Self gets to the EE a LOT, so there is that.

This is getting tiring. • Mar 26, 2017 03:25 PM

Cal vs Self is tough. If Cal takes ANOTHER title this year then really what can you say...

This is getting tiring. • Mar 26, 2017 03:24 PM

Yes Final Fours are an important bench mark. I think they do matter more than EE. It's another entire week of having your brand out there.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 26, 2017 02:02 PM

Svi has said he is currently undecided when he was asked. That was very shortly after the game though.
