@Texas-Hawk-10

Tbf, Weber is a huge dork, would you want to play for him? :smirk:

@BShark but isn't foster the kid that left?

Yes. Also a strike against Bruce.

Trying to think of others he recruited that I wouldn't mind at KU. Whiffing.

@JayHawkFanToo Recruiting is a big part of what makes a coach good and Weber is a terrible recruiter. You cannot be a good coach when you suck at half your job.

This guy gets it.

Also, Foster is a legit player, but who else has Bruce got that you wouldn't mind at KU? Maaaaaybe Dean Wade?

Selden • Nov 28, 2016 01:32 AM

Heard he is doing well in the dleague.

@BeddieKU23

Yeah it would be tougher if Garrett has to start because he is not a great shooter.

Protecting the Merchandise • Nov 28, 2016 01:28 AM

Copypaste.

Trevon Duval's recruitment has taken a lot of twists, but after a spirited game against Collin Sexton at Holiday Hoopsgiving, he was a bit more open about it all.
IMG escaped a super gritty Pebblebrook squad 99-94 in what was a spirited battle between the two five star guards. Sexton finished with 39 points on 11-18 from the field, but also had six turnovers. Duval, on the other hand, had 24 points, six assists, five steals, and just two turnovers. Sexton's scoring mentality did not come as a surprise to the nation's top lead guard.
"I knew he was gunnin' for 40," Duval said with a laugh after the game. "He played good and did everything I expected him to do.‎"
After we got done talking about the game, we briefly touched on his recruitment. There was a bit of uncertainty about whether or not the Blue Devils had put a scholarship on the table. He ended that in Atlanta.
"Yes, they did," Duval said confirming the Duke offer. "I plan on taking my official to Duke and to my other four in my final five."
The other schools that he was referring to were Baylor, Arizona, Seton Hall, Arizona, and Kansas. While many were drilling him for exact dates, those are far from set in stone, but will be in the near future.
"Not really, but I know it's coming real soon," Trevon explained of his visit to Duke. "I sent in all my stuff to get everything straight so I can take my officials. We're just working on a date right now."
While there have been many changes throughout his list, it is quite evident that Trevon Duval is ready to get his college decision over with so he can move on to the next chapter of his career. In fact, he wants to do it ASAP.
"Really as soon as possible just to get it over so that I can sit down, think about it, and make the right decision."

Question • Nov 28, 2016 01:25 AM

@BeddieKU23

Based on early reports out of Austin I expected more out of Jacob Young. I think he is their best chance to be an actual PG, but he isn't ready this year. Roach, Jones, Yancy and Davis are absolutely not PGs.

Protecting the Merchandise • Nov 28, 2016 01:11 AM

@BeddieKU23

Young would be really damn nice. Young/Newman/Vick/Preston = hand down man down.

HEY GUYS • Nov 28, 2016 01:06 AM

@jayballer54

Please post the results, I'll be watching NFL.

Question • Nov 28, 2016 01:05 AM

@jayballer54

Agree. More good coaches in the league is a positive.

I really want to add more perspective to just how bad KSU's schedule is. Maybe because of how obnoxious KSU fans that don't understand are.

KSU opp kenpom rankings: 289, 177, 332, 290, 194 and 55 (Maryland).

So they lost to the only team they played with a pulse. The rest are all worse than UNCA, some much worse. All but Maryland are worse than .500 except BC who is 3-3.

Question • Nov 28, 2016 12:55 AM

KSU is BAD. I've seen them play. Baaaaaaad. That same Maryland team was getting ran off the floor by RICHMOND before turning it around. KSU with their schedule will be the definition of a paper tiger heading into conference play. They should win their next 6 games too. It would have been like KU scheduling three Rhode Island level opponents in football.

TCU I am not sure. Dixon is a good coach. Their schedule is pretty blah. Don't trust the Washington win at all. Washington has lots of talent but they don't play up to it. If I were betting, bottom half of the league still.

Texas is ASS. I thought they'd be better. The talent is there, maybe Shaka isn't a great coach? They will win some games they shouldn't due to talent, but also drop games they shouldn't.

For my money

KU
Baylor/ISU/WVU
THE REST OF THE LEAGUE
Topeka YMCA
Texas Tech

@BeddieKU23

My understanding is the staff preferred Newman to Thornton. Probably could have had Thornton otherwise.

And yeah we need a PG to pair with Newman. Newman can get buckets in general, and should be a really good spot up shooter but we don't want him being the primary ball handler.

Right, good thing there is plenty of time and lots of unsettled things.

We could be in play for everything, from de-comitts, graduate transfers, europeans, OAD's, projects, practice players. You name it.

Could be a wild spring...

Would be fantastic to get Young on board since he will commit before the spring, but it feels like such a long shot.

Good connection between Davis & Tilmon. Davis is one that got away and is a result of our recruiting strategy. This year we went Ayton, lost, and thankfully got Preston ( if his concerns end up being nothing).

This is why I was so happy when the staff took Garrett early. Don't be afraid to take good players early and stick to your evals. It's a bit of a double edged sword because you want top talent, but OADs don't add a ton for the program. Slow rolling good players has been an issue, a bird in the hand I say. Not saying it will happen, but I really hope the staff doesn't slow roll Leech in favour of Barrett. Leech is too damn good, gotta take him if he wants to commit.

Protecting the Merchandise • Nov 27, 2016 11:30 PM

@BeddieKU23

I think if Graham goes and KU doesn't get Duval or Young we are definitely looking at having to get a graduate transfer just to have enough guards for a proper rotation.

Having watched Tilmon I don't think he was a starter as a freshman at KU but at a place like Illinois he would be and they obviously made him their top priority. Tilmon would have been a nice 4 yr guy

I expect his situation isn't over though with Groce likely gone the way they are already losing. He will look at his options and I expect KU and Saint Louis will be after him.

Right, would have been a nice program big like Tyler Davis (who said KU was his dream school). Hindsight is 20/20 but man, I'd sure love Tyler Davis on the roster instead of having signed Diallo that year.

Correct on Groce, he has to produce results this year.

I hope we are never in that position to rely on non PG's Newman and Vick

Self would sooner put the ball in Garrett's hands over Vick. I mean, we don't know this 100% unless we see the exact scenario but Vick is just not close to a PG whereas Garrett is.

Maybe didnt sign Illinois bigman due to Cliff Alexander saga, which of course was no fault of Self's nor KU's.

A couple things on this. He like everyone else thought Ayton was going to KU when he first committed to Illinois. He knows Doke will be at KU next year, and starting. Illinois made him a priority early.

@BeddieKU23 said:

Jacobs looks like a top 20 player to me. Highlights are great and all and they highlight what he does well. Would love to see a game of his in full to get a feel for what type of floor leader he is.

If he gains a few inches over the next few years look out. I hope he stays solid to KU but you always wonder if kids will stick 3 years later when all the top kids around him are getting exposure and recruiting media constantly after you...

The talk currently is that he is McD AA good. Wouldn't be surprised if he is top 20 especially if he gets a bit taller. If any of his games are streamed online, I will be sure to post about it.

Basketball decommits are pretty rare. Sherron will stay in his ear. He is a KU fan like Mitch and BMac, tweets about KU all the time. And tweeted about KU well before he committed. Illinois actually got him in for a visit first iirc. I'd be very surprised if anything changes.

2018 Crootin Thread • Nov 27, 2016 06:46 PM

@jayballer54

No worries my friend.

2018 class is kind of rough, not a lot of elite talent especially in the post.. Missing Carty sucked. Wouldn't be surprised if KU ended up with Oturu and one of these project players (Vanover, Fitzmorris).

12 scholarships not 11 to give? Oops, I shorted us one.

It's very unusual that KU has an open scholarship tbf.

@rocketdog said:

I know we're all hopeful that Devonte stays for his senior year, but realistically if he's projected to go in the first round - he's gone and he should leave.

Absolutely.

@KUSTEVE said:

@dylans Would Duval play ahead of Newman?

Self would be running the 5 star top 10 but less experienced Mason + Graham redux with those two. Both would play, a lot and together.

They look like last years KU team.

This is what I was thinking. They look good early because they aren't integrating a lot of new parts in key roles. And for the experience that KU does have coming back this season, Selden and Perry were both such huge parts of the team.

Protecting the Merchandise • Nov 27, 2016 06:22 PM

@BeddieKU23

Right, the consensus is he wanted the Duke offer. There are other factors though of course. If Jackson is back at Duke, he may not want to go there. He definitely won't go to KU if Graham is back or Self pulls of a miracle with Young.

@dylans

KU still has an open scholarship atm. Should go to Wooten if he chooses to come here. Preston slots into Lucas's scholarship and Garrett into Mason's. So, it depends on who stays, SR Graham would be fantastic. We know there is one more open spot for sure, Josh's. I would lean towards 2/3 of Graham, Svi and Bragg being gone but we've seen a lot of odd staying/leaving decisions over the years.

Lol at them playing UW so close when Romar has all that NBA talent.

Also, another short team for Udoka to destroy.

I don't know how much was shown on TV, but Lucas is a hurting unit. Between plays he would grab his ankle/lower leg even during a few live ball situations.

My wife is of the opinion that he is a whiny crybaby, but I think he's more injured than we know.

I noticed a couple issues on the broadcast, sounds like it was constant though. Thanks.

The more I see, the more apparent it is why KU took his commitment so early. His brother is 6'2''-3'' so it's possible he gets around there as well. I get the feeling he will be moving up the rankings once the services start to really look at 2019.

Garrett had foul trouble first half, all 21 of his points were in the 2nd half. Young had 33 in the loss.

Copypaste from 247. Expect MORE DOKE.

Kansas switched up the starting lineup Friday night, with the change resulting in a 95-57 win over UNC Asheville.

Out went Carlton Bragg and Landen Lucas, two parts of the Jayhawks’ much-maligned post players. In came freshman Udoka Azubuike and sophomore Lagerald Vick. And they both excelled, with Vick scoring 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds and Azubuike finishing with 17 points, three rebounds and three blocks. Just as importantly, they were unbelievably efficient, combining to shoot 14-of-16 from the field.

“Absolutely,” Self said after the game. “There’s no reason to switch that up right now.”

Kansas had a significant size advantage over UNC Asheville, but won the rebounding battle by the largest margin of the season, 49-23. And Azubuike provided the interior scoring presence the Jayhawks have been missing.

So don’t expect changes anytime too soon: if Lucas and Bragg want their spots back, they’ll have to earn them.
