Looks like Self was serious about getting Dok some playing time. Excellent
Love him not pulling Doke after a couple mistakes too.
Doke feelin it
I CAN WATCH THE KSU GAME OVER THE AIR BUT NOT THE KU GAME. This is such a failure.
Almost time.

Bruce working on a gem.
Self is feeling feisty.
I predict switching over to UM tOSU a lot.
We do have the room for it. Would certainly be a nice situation.
This kid or 6'11'' Lenexa product Keenan Fitzmorris would be nice 4-5 year players. KU has not offered either yet however.
KSU name their score
KU 0
7'2'' but pretty thin. Making his 2nd visit to KU this year for the UNCA game.
LOSE ANGRY.
@BShark you said
Mount Saint Marys, Mississippi Valley State, New Hampshire, Illinois. KSU would still be undefeated with that schedule as well. That said, I'm sure we lose in Morgantown because refs won't call shit.
I take the a alternative view that we lose in Morgantown every year because we play like crap there. I know there was traveling no call two years back, but we just don't show up when we play there.
PLAY ANGRY vs Izzo's rag tag injured team might be interesting.
Enh, probably middle of the league next year. Though they will have some growing pains I like some of the recruits they have got lately. Prohm is an okay coach but like Crean I don't question when he brings in a sub 200 recruit early because of past success with evaluations.
Sounds about right. I like how much their fanbase just absolutely hates KU.
@BeddieKU23 said:
if they play like this in the ACC, its going to be a long year. definitely not a tourney team
Not even close.
@BeddieKU23 said:
I feel like I'm watching a mid-major team. Miami turns it over every possession
Honestly Miami is way worse than Indiana State.
Announcers are clueless, ISU isn't doing anything special on defense.
@drgnslayr said:
Not sure that ISU has the refs in their pockets as much as MoValley teams get ZERO respect from refs (perhaps with the exception of WSU).
It was a joke because ISU fans.
I'm not impressed with ISU.

We want Duval, the basketball player. Business decision only, KU will be better with him then without him
His comments make me prefer Young, but if not Young then Duval is a good option.

@BeddieKU23 said:
Nope it wasn't. We'll see if he ever gets himself back to his Ole Miss days. If Maxwell & Coleby are basically "last options" we should be signing as many bigs as we can get to come here
Maxwell was recruited for his younger brother, wasn't he?
His brother isn't really a D1 prospect.
Probably never truer than with Duval.
βMy situation is different because Iβm planning to play one year of college,β Duval told USA Today. βFor that reason I want to make sure I pick the best situation to have success right away. I want to win wherever I go. For me, itβs more of a business decision.β
I know my man. That's why I made my post the way I did.
Must be nice having the refs in your pocket. Should have lost to Indiana State.
Also WSU can taste it too.
Have a good one forumites.

I think our big guys need to watch every single North Carolina game and watch how well their big guys go after rebounds and how much they want the ball. Those guys play like men, not scared little boys
Tbf Roy has 3 JR/SR post players that were 4/5 stars.
Some of the hot takes make me think of UK fans (Gabriel is Kevin Durant JR!!!).
I agree though, better to have passionate fans.
I feel this team was always going to have some growing pains, Selden and Perry were such big parts of the team. Josh may in fact save this team, but hopefully a couple of the post players get it together.

I don't know... but I never got the opinion that Carlton was desperate to make money immediately. Always had the feeling like he would be realistic about when to move. I think when he was in HS he saw himself as a 4-year college player.
People that know way more than me said the plan was two years then hopefully go pro but also assess.
Embiid is a transcendent talent but fair enough.

@BShark Various KU sites? You mean there are others beside this one?
Im kidding. But, I really dont read the posts from members at the other sites.
@Jesse-Newell wrote a really killer post about Josh Jackson.
This one is definitely my favourite now.
@Crimsonorblue22 said:
@Lulufulu somebody asked coach about missing Danny working w/the bigs and he said we do the same drills. How's wake doing w/bigs?
The same drills can be done, but Danny may be the POST Whisperer. I'm not ruling it out.
I missed the obvious reply to this thread. Time to remedy that.

Let's see....
We have Udoka coming back.
We signed Billy.
More than likely Carlton will be back. I don't know anyone that thinks he is ready for the league. Someday, though... possibly next year.
Dwight will be back.
Mitch will be back.
And Evan will be back.
Am I missing something? Aren't we just losing Landen for sure? (I'm just talking about front line players)
BTW: Billy is the new prototypical front line player... he is what we should be looking for in the future. Ball handling big men who can pop the outside shot. I'd like to see Coach change it around and recruit big men as utility players and become talent-specific for guards.
There is some nervousness about Billy making it to campus, but he seems pretty committed imo. And yeah he is very skilled, could be another Marcus Morris for us.
Still way too early to tell on Bragg. The plan before the year was for him to go, but I mean, if he would possibly go undrafted you'd think his circle would strongly reconsider.
Can't really count Evan imo, but regardless, next year's front court will be good.

The announcers last night were comparing Josh to Wiggins, and like drgnslayr, I like Josh's more all-around game much better than Wigs. Also the intangible, Josh seems much more aggressive and willing to be a court leader than Wigs ever did.
In the loss to Stanford, that final play where Wigs backed away from taking the last shot and instead deferred to Frankamp, is etched in my brain. Also etched was Bill Self walking off the floor after that game. He was furious (presumably) with Wiggins and tearing into one of the assistant coaches. To be able to hear what he was saying would have been interesting.
Doesn't seem like Josh will pull that same kind of disappearing act.
I like this years team a lot and think our bigs will start to produce once we start making it a priority to feed the post. Dok must keep moving forward and getting more and more minutes. His offense and rebounding already look the best of the bigs. His defensive footwork needs some time, but his shot blocking is looking decent.
So far, Dok is giving more effort than the others. If he can keep progressing and improving his footwork and defense, we should be ready to dominate conference play.
It's early but Josh just seems to have a couple of major things over Wiggs. First he has a much better feel for the game. He just seems to be able to process things on the court so quickly, a basketball savant more or less. Second he doesn't have that Selden/Wiggs drift to his game. Loved both of those kids and their contributions to KU but it was obvious that they drifted. Selden in particular if he didn't have a good start, you knew it was ghost mode Selden for the whole game.
I think this more than makes up for Wiggs having a better shot and perhaps a smidge more athleticism.
You'd think they would at least have some success to show for their cheating. But naaaaa Missouri...
I'm all for playing WSU. In Lawrence or KC.
@HawkChamp said:
@BigBad no one is saying Landon needs to be a prolific scorer. We just want him to play like he did last season. It could be mental for him at this point.
I think it's partially how the game is being called right now. But probably a bit mental too. He was visibly upset last night.
@HawkChamp said:
@Texas-Hawk-10 the travel schedule has made it difficult for them to implement new things and improve on the old stuff. Easier stretch coming up.
Yep. Basically parking the bus in Lawrence now, so hopefully we see some improvement. I doubt they will practice much before UNCA though.
@betterfireE said:
I'm interested to hear others' thoughts on how to maximize our lineups. Jackson-as-Perry-Ellis is perhaps an inevitability, with Svi filling in as Wayne Selden. But for our bigs, do any of them complement each other, or do we have to play them one at a time?
Play Josh as much as possible.
Solid takes on the post players. Udoka should be able to improve his stamina as the year goes on.
@HawkChamp said:
@justanotherfan like I have been saying, I am glad we know the problems early on so there is more time to improve and fix them by March. Is there any combination of guards out there better than ours when they are playing well?
I say no. There is certainly no other collection of guards I would take over ours. Straight swapping is easy (like say, Monk from UK over Vick) but as a group give me this KU squad.
@Crimsonorblue22 said:
@BShark do we know Allen is doing?
Averaging 10 and 7 on 7 shots a game. UT's best post player by a lot.

Nice article here about Indiana going to Fort Wayne. Mastadon coach sounds like a class act.
http://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/despite-loss-give-tom-crean-credit-not-grief-for-playing-game-at-fort-wayne/ β
It would be similar to us going down to Wichita, which I hope never happens as long as GREGGGGGG is coaching there.
I feel decent about Self getting the bigs to be serviceable. We are missing Danny though.
KU is just about always overhyped in the preseason.
@Texas-Hawk-10 +1 Really don't see what Lucas offered last night that Mitch couldn't. I agree let him rest. Also his game (ie clearing out space/backing guys down) is being called a foul now. If that doesn't change back, it will limit him.
Coleby was the only post player even interested in blocking out last night.
Not to go full tuck or anything but going around to various KU sites and reading you'd really think this was the case.

Well with the way Bragg has started this season, I would say that he will be back for his JR season, or let me say he should for sure come back, would be a huge mistake to declare . Hopefully Wooten will come I think he would be fine. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
If Bragg does come back improved, Billy Preston makes it to campus and add in a RS FR Wooten to go with what we know will be back (SO Doke, RS SR Coleby) and that's a pretty damn salty front line.
Coleby is still dragging his leg. Whether it's mental or physical hopefully he recovers. Should be a solid bench contributor if that happens.
