@Kcmatt7 So uh, Kevin is OUT tonight, we will definitely see the bench guys.
Wow
ESPN+ at 8pm EST.
KU favored by 24.
This is a much-needed game for the Hawks although it would have been better with a few more days of rest for them after the 3 in 3 tournament but these kids are young enough to get up for it.
Texas Southern (Kenpom #242) has lost to notable teams; Texas Tech by 24, Houston by 35 & Auburn by 16. They have a 1 pt win over Arizona St (such a Bobby Hurley thing to do) as their lone W so far.
They shoot 37% from the field, 57% from the FT line & 27% from 3 as a team. They don't shoot it well, although their 3 best players shoot in the mid to high 30's from 3.
Interested to see the energy and effort levels coming off the L. They need a good bounce back game before Seton Hall comes to town on Thursday

How much practicing will they actually do?
Recap since Friday- Friday night game. Fly home Saturday, film, rest, maybe a light walk through? Practice for Texas Southern Sunday. Game tonight. Tuesday, rest/ etc. Wednesday practice for Seton Hall, Game Thursday.
I know I'm not expecting much uptick this week given injuries and what not.
If anything we want to make sure they are rested for tonight.
Yeah Tejas Southern shouldn't challenge us but these guys are tired and that's not going to change in 2 days. I would expect to see the same level of play that we just saw in the Bahamas. Some good, some bad and a lot in the middle
Wondering if they upped his NIL deal in order for him to enter the game. Protect him at all cost.
CB the beast!

Kenpom. In the Self Era this team is slightly better so far then the 20/21 Covid squad. 2nd lowest rated squad in the Self era. The other 3 teams with similar rating, did not win the Big-12. Something to monitor for expectations.
The 5 spot and bench are definely early weaknesses that have to be ironed out. Shooting has been average at best & we seem to have a lot of below average FT shooters so far.
I've been pleased with a lot things so far, I think this teams DNA knows how to win but we do need to see some guys step up so there's more consistentcy.
This game is a good teaching moment for Harris. He took himself out the game with some bad fouls each and every time he needed to put a lid on it. With Bobby hurt for a while the backup pg position just became a mess putting an even bigger burden on Juan. Good thing the Hawks only have 5 games in December. There is a whole lot of issues going on especially health wise
KJ adams 2-14 from the line on the season. Translation = Doke could beat him in horse at the line
Bobby P out weeks with hamstring strain. Nothing new for him here
What an idiot
Jalen single handily losing this one for them

That's an understatement
They didn't show up. Pathetic opening
Vegas has Tennessee favored. Espn favors them in their predictive model.
Game tip 730 EST
For the Bahamas trophy
Old friend Ricky Barnes with a veteran squad. Talent wise they are not among his best groups but when you have basically 7 guys with a lot of experience it makes for a difficult matchup
I'm fine with the rule but as with any emphasis, consistent application of the rule I think will suffer at times as we have often seen. It shouldn't have taken until 2022 to see this behavior being dealt with. So far I haven't seen it called with any real controversy or impact to the game. I'm waiting for when we have end of game situations where that rule will really become grey area.
Overall I think this is certainly another good rule emphasis after they have gone after shooters kicking the leg out to draw contact and have also dealt with defenders falling down in the post without contact. These are habits and coaching changes that must have happen for the better of the game

That court was slick. They use the wrong cleansing/prep product on the floor. Hope no one gets hurt this evening.
Over the years that court has been known to be humid. Not a traditional venue at all
I don't know the reasoning behind not playing either freshman big if you expect them to be a factor today. Those kids need game reps not bench time if they are going to factor into this team. Obviously self sent a message to them.
Watching replay, big thing noticed is how Self abandoned a lot of motion sets to get the ball moving side to side. He was forced to play starters too many minutes and they were gassed. He let Jalen be the guy that got the ball in position to score on almost every possession. This was all Self. It worked out but we sacrificed a lot in that 2nd half/OT because his bench wasn't reliable. I think Wisconsin did a great job in their defensive scheme limiting easy ball movement and how they guarded Dick was another noticeable adjustment. They were also double and trippling Jalen at times. All wrinkles we have to be prepared to see from other teams.
It was noticeable how the crowd was impacting KU when they cut the lead to a 1 possession game. Some noticeable frustration from even Juan out there. He was clearly upset about how Wisconsin got back into this game. The refs made sure of that when calling him for multiple phantom fouls
Very concerned tonight about starters getting gassed tonight. This game is really going to need the bench to produce something. Tennessee has the 2nd ranked defense

@BeddieKU23 It really delivered. I didn't want the Badgers to be embarrassed. I wanted KU to win but would've been happy for a big win for UW. Badger fans by and large expected to get rocked so they're quite content actually. Maybe relief because they scored 43 in the 2nd half (same as the previous game total!) rediscovering some offense.
Putting the KU hat back on FT shooting and some bad turnovers really fueled the comeback. I'm not sure why Zuby and Udeh didn't play. Maybe Norm should be the head coach!
People on the other side were complaining about the two flop calls against UW but thought Jalen should have been whistled for it when Wahl drove on him late in the game. I told them Bill Self would have killed Jalen if he had tried to flop to draw a charge and instead just gave up an easy layup like that, especially in crunch time. I think Jalen got his feet tangled.
As for the two Wisconsin flops it's a really dumb rule. Tell the refs not to reward flops by calling fouls when a kid flops. If a kid wants to look dumb and fall while shooting a three then let him look dumb.
Really looking forward to tomorrow night. Should be a fun game and KU should prevail over Rocky Top by a few.
Wisconsin fans should be happy KU fell apart and they took advantage of that. Some of it was just shot making which Wisconsin does have, just not consistent but a majority of their offense came off some really poor offense from KU. Kudos to them for fighting all the way to the end.
On the replay shown of that layup where Jalen fell, it looked like he slipped and Wahl used his leverage to get him to go down as he was slipping because one of Jalens legs folds as he falls, there was no flop there but seeing it live I could see where it would be questioned since that's a popular spot to sell a foul. At first I thought it was a foul on Wahl because Jalen is not going down without someone drilling him. We saw Jalen stood up a driver several times in this game, he is no flopper. Bobby also made a really poor dig and help attempt there. Good thing he made up for it.
I get the frustration over the flop calls but they were both correct. Both were blatant attempts to sell a foul that didn't occur, both had the opportunity to land on their feet and instead chose to fall. Great to see the emphasis on this but it's going to take time for players to adjust to bad habits and I'm sure KU will be on the receiving end of a few. I expect the rule to be overcalled since it's something we are clearly seeing as a point of emphasis.
I'm sure today was probably one of your favorite games ever
