Game will start on time tonight. Thanks WBB

Pistols Out of Ammo Game Thread • Jan 28, 2020 01:52 AM

Nice to see him getting a start. Could be big for his confidence, not that he lacks any

RIP Jalen Wilson • Jan 28, 2020 12:13 AM

Wow a 5th yr of Doke would be rockstar level awesome. I honestly didnt even think of that since the only reason he was here 4 yrs was because of the injuries. Doke has even said it wasnt the plan. The staff has done a great job recruiting guys back so I guess it's not impossible but likely Improbable

Other Games • Jan 28, 2020 12:06 AM

@Woodrow

If I remember correctly guys didnt make plays and I thought Kentucky's athletic bodies bothered them at the end. I agree there are very few coaches better then Self, if any in certain situations but I thought his players kind of showed their immaturity in that one. Ramsey was non existent that last part and Moretti tried too much to make a play which I dont think is his calling card either. That was a young team that just didnt finish. But I can see how anyone who watched might think otherwise. That was a game Tech shouldn't have lost

Other Games • Jan 28, 2020 12:02 AM

@Kcmatt7

He definitely can win. Personally I'm just not on his bandwagon but I recognize he is a great coach. I recognize K, Cal, Huggins, etc as great coaches but they are not the guys I would pick to lead KU post Self whenever that comes.

But I can see the appeal from a stability, winning, defensive minded coach

@jayballer73

McGriff always plays like Jordan against us too. Expect those 2 plus Dziagwa to go off from 3 as he's averaging double figures and 12 for 25 from 3 in his last three games

Other Games • Jan 27, 2020 10:19 PM

@BShark

He is recruiting well at Tech. Culver & Smith just completely blew up as under the radar guys, Moore (flamed out and transferred but Top 50 kid), Ramsey was Top 25 kid from this past class. He got an All American this year who looks really solid. Moretti was a Euro, Edwards was underrated IMO. I think as far as High School recruiting goes he's doing a lot of similar things as Self, recruiting Top talent, getting underrated kids and developing.

He hits the transfer market hard and got two studs in Mooney/Owens who were integral pieces last season. Clarke/Holyfield haven't had the impact those did last year but they have been key pieces to the young squad he has.

I know he hasn't proven himself beyond the last 2 seasons but an Elite 8 and losing the Championship in OT certainly build cred quickly. I think he's a good character coach from what he says to the media and he's young enough (10 years younger then Self) to think he could continue the elite level play we've had.

It's a tall order but the other 2 coaches I'd put in the want bracket- Wright & Few are older and have really shown no interest in leaving their current gigs.

Other Games • Jan 27, 2020 10:11 PM

@Woodrow

Did you take the end of that game and OT as anything Beard did wrong? His 90% FT shooter missed badly on the first to win it in regulation. Then a freshman went to the line and missed the first being a 60% shooter in OT I believe it was. I think the difference in the game was missed free throws and not having anyone big enough to match Richards inside. He had a monster game against them

@Woodrow

Contrary to the spread which I think is accounting for the 7 players and Self's road woes most model's have this game being closer to the 9/10 point region that the spread was at until this morning. Kenpom has this at 10, last I saw ESPN was saying 9. A few others I saw were saying around that as well. I think the models are not predicting OSU to have one of those games where they make 15 3's and KU looks like a pile of turd buckets. We'll see I guess

So is Oklahoma St just that bad (0-6 in conference play) or is this Exhibit #28 of Self bringing his squad to Stillwater and watching the annual crap in our pants game a real possibility again. Frank was the last time I remember winning there and he was absolutely a killer in that game.

Looking over the stats of our away games Doke & Dotson have not played anywhere near their best on the road. It's no surprise but if we want to win tonight undermanned we better see our two best players show up. Something has got to give with going there.

Big 12 Suspensions • Jan 27, 2020 03:36 PM

@jayballer73

Yep its the best version of Doke we've seen at KU. He's put in the work and seeing the fruits of his labor. This past weekends game was one of the few where foul trouble has been a concern for him this year. His feel on the defensive side (sliding feet, impacting shots without fouling has improved leaps and bounds) and its exciting to see. Hopefully tonight he can stay on the floor a bit more without foul concerns.

Richard Dale Barnes Game Thread • Jan 27, 2020 01:34 PM

@mayjay

Yeah I don't know why that was the case. It was only 0.1 but still I saw that and was puzzled

Big 12 Suspensions • Jan 27, 2020 01:32 PM

@jayballer73

Yeah when Doke was on the bench it created a big problem. The unexpected foul trouble just made it even worse.

I will say that this was kind of the perfect storm of situations. I don't know many teams that could prepare in 3-4 days to have guys guarding positions they normally don't. Enaruna & Agbaji were in tough spots especially. Pons of Tennessee is an athletic freak and is a tough matchup for anyone. It didn't look great without Doke on the floor he was a game changer on both ends. He's become one of the most important and impactful players in all of College Basketball. He's playing at an All American level

Ok St has some good players they are just young.

3 of their 4 top scorers are Seniors.

PER's from the Tennessee Game. Doke's impact/importance I don't think can be quantified.

Been going through the Dajuan Harris tape. Hope we get an update on him at some point this season from the coaches. I really think he will be a solid backup to Garrett next season when needed. I'm excited to see if he is another diamond found

I want to see Bates get a KU offer. Not based on this pic alone obviously, but daaaamn.

Bates tape was solid from what I saw. Certainly looked like a player on the rise. If they like him we should trust that

@Texas-Hawk-10

The comment was heat of the moment as I watched Moretti and another freshman miss critical free throws. I understand he has a young team and I expect KU will have trouble beating them coming up. They should have won that game last night

Other Games • Jan 26, 2020 01:42 PM

@BShark

I like beard, his players just crapped the bed big time.

I have no idea who could replace Bill and I rarely chime in when this comes up every month it seems now. I know who I don't want and that list is way longer then those who I think could

Big 12 /SEC Challenge , who you got ? • Jan 26, 2020 01:53 AM

Richard Dale Barnes Game Thread • Jan 25, 2020 10:57 PM

@BShark

Cant expect greatness just need Doke to play smart the last 4

Richard Dale Barnes Game Thread • Jan 25, 2020 10:57 PM

But we have missed so many layups or free throws its maddening

Richard Dale Barnes Game Thread • Jan 25, 2020 10:56 PM

I'm not going to be too hard on them they had 4 days to prepare for a team with an athletic freak

Richard Dale Barnes Game Thread • Jan 25, 2020 10:56 PM

Just seeing how hard it is to play with only 7 guys and guys who cant play the 4 and 5 position without Doke in there
