Agree. I would love to see what another year does for him both mentally and physically. I can see a laundry list of things Hudy would do with him during the off-season. I do think he's just an off-season away from being a different player here. I hope they realize the benefit to staying.
I also agree that Grimes might have ended up in the wrong system to showcase his game. I mentioned just this past week that I think KU has 3 guys playing 1 position. What made Grimes good in HS is a completely different role he has with KU. Maybe they can convince someone he's a lead guard with size. But then I would guess they put the tape on. Can't see how that goes positively
Really good point. His game has seemed to blossom since the summer. Never a bad thing.
I did see his post about the 2nd round based on Grimes reputation from HS. If that's what scouts/GM's draft on boy I want THAT job. Just throw mud at a wall and hope it sticks LOL
And no disrespect to Grimes but if he's already decided he's leaving his camp better get their heads examined
That's true.
Braun just looks far away from adding the weight needed to be a big.. Like you said if he grows a few more inches he could be a default big at times. He will certainly have the opportunity to stretch the floor from whatever position he plays.
I figured since you've seen him live that you'd have a pretty good idea on him. No worries.
I don't think he'll ever be a 4 here imo. Look how long its taken Mitch to add weight for example. But I have seen reports that he's still growing which isn't a bad thing to have for a tall wing. Perfectly okay with the Reed comp.
I think you will see the 4 spot recruited heavily in the spring. Still in the mix for Hurt. Also, wouldn't rule out some 2020 top kids that are kicking the tires around reclassifying.

@BeddieKU23 I think also that we need to keep Noai in check - -got to get out and stay with him - -it isn't going to be easy. Just like every other team - - this is their game their fans have checked on their schedule - - it's THE game of the year to their fans when they play us at home.
We just do not have the weapons this year like in the past where we can afford to just kind of put it on cruise control and then step on the pedal when we realize oh we better pick it up - -win this game.
We don't have that Devonte - -We don't have that Frank - -and with the way things have played out with Doke going down - -with the ruling of Silvio EVERY game has been and is going to be a war. I feel very confident that if Doke wouldn't of went down - -If we had Silvio - -We wouldn't of got beaten at W Virginia - -we wouldn't of lost at K-State - -with Doke teams would of had to plan differently or with Silvio - -there is yet another game in league I think we would of won with those guys - -just can't remember at this moment who it was - -slips my mind - -getting old lol.
I agree with you on bigs - - I too think we start anyways with two bigs - -not just sure I think quite possible Mitch starts again at least starts in front of Dave - -we have just GOT TO step up. - -time to strap them on and go do this. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
I can see Self going with Mitch based on his last two games. He's probably earned it by his play.
If we go by the matchup Dave is better equipped to make life difficult for Samuel who's a near 7 footer with girth to him. Neither Dedric/Mitch is a good matchup overall. The key is getting Samuel in foul trouble. That takes their only rim protector and best rebounder out of the game.
Having said that I think we are catching TCU at the wrong time. They just hung 92 on the road against Iowa St. 4 guys went for 17+ including their little spark plug Davis who came off the bench and went for 22. With all the issues this team has had on the road I just don't see it ending tonight. I would love to be wrong. My one hope is that without Vick the guys rally around each other on the road for once and that's how we win this game. They have yet to put a good 20 minutes in the 2nd half all season away from home. Something has to change at some point for these guys.
Hometown hero gets to put up 20+ shots on a losing team and get to the NBA as quickly as possible

What kind of D we playing tmrw? Who will guard who?
Have to go man to man. With the big guy I bet Dave starts again to match their beef. A key with that will be trying to get Samuel in foul trouble, he's had 9 games of 4+ fouls this season.
Miller gets Dedric. Noi gets Agbaji, Bane gets Grimes and Robinson gets Dotson.
Will have to hope Grimes can defend Bane because the kid has averaged almost 23 a game in conference play at home. He's the guy that seems to play out of his mind at home comparably to his teammates. The more I think about it I think Agbaji gets the assignment without Garrett here.
The difference in this game though is probably turnovers. TCU had 20 in Allen and only lost by 9. The crowd seemed to rattle them into careless mistakes. KU had 10 steals in that game. If TCU plays well at home I don't think they will turn it over nearly that much. TCU is favored by 3 and I think that's accurate given our road woes
Agree about his poise.
Self's most recent comments about this.
“Yeah, it’s unbelievable. It’s incredible to me,” Self began. “You know, it just goes to show you what a bad decision I made initially in misreading the situation, because he is beyond his years.”
“I didn’t think he would get 23 in Big 12 games, no,” Self admitted. “I didn’t think that. But I thought, eventually he would be one of our best five players. Of course, it took about one game to figure that out.”
On Grimes, Self said he challenged him at halftime Saturday. Made him angry pretty much. That may have been the button Self has been looking for all season long. He played well in that 2nd half after that motivation. The question is, how can Self make him mad tonight.

I thinking that if the core of Dotson, Grimes, Ochai, Garrett and David are here 2 years from now, thats a dangerous dangerous team my friends. As I said I don't have any expectations going forward this year and next I think we are solid depending on who stays and goes but will look like the team thats a year away.
I think 4 of 5 of that core seems likely to be here. That core could have a Sr Chucky Moore, So McBride & So Braun as well. Self is going to have to land some quality bigs that can actually play this spring and next year..
Just a smidge, no biggy right?
What's the comp for Braun at this point. Anyone at KU that he resembles?

@BeddieKU23 Maybe the Lakers are tanking so they can take Zion.
I'm sure a lot of teams are in the tanking stage for Zion.
He can make 3's so he will play next yr. Probably a small role as a freshman but at least he will be a guy that can stretch the floor for this team. Him and McBride make buckets
At least 2 more years. He is no where close to a finished or ready prospect and that is our gain
Besides get a hand up but yeah they made guarded ones as well. King James being in the stands really energized those kids up
One game earlier this yr dedric did otherwise haven't seen it since
You mean just make every 3 you put up. That's how they won
Lol king McClure out for Baylor as well

Seeds as of this point in time are out....we're overall #10. 3 seed. Giving us credit for the quadrant 1 wins. I guess that's good.
Most in the nation. That probably give us a sliver of an advantage come seed time
Of course. They are a good team. We will struggle mightily on Monday
Definitely did what we needed. He is so sped up still. Rebounded, blocked a shot, effort is never a question. Didnt get in foul trouble. Mitch stepped up huge
This is basically game 1 of the season now. Once Garrett is back its another piece to blend and build chemistry
As usual we dont like big leads
Little late on the face mug refs. Get it together
Come on dave
Lol every single time
Except he cant make em
Someone took over Grimes body

Grimes with two threes....we'll have to take that at this point. Now that's the run we've been hoping for. 3 pt shooting evening out after the first half.
Some good passes in this run as well
I know actual passes
Wow
Big time
If that's not over the back what is
Ochai could have ended the game right there
Wow love the effort
Joke
We make Oklahoma state look like duke
Fran is worried.
Wow that ft form looks like Garrett ugly
Immediately give up a foul in 3 seconds
Well he's no fit here and it's no criticism to him but he just isnt what we thought
Dotson has to watch his fouls now
More likely transfers
Two games in a row
That was an actual thing?
Mitch
