Fellow poster on here was at the game and talked to Gary Bedore about it.
Doke jumped and the guy backed into him to box him out. I fail to see how doke isn't eligible to the same space
Yup so if they want him to repay the value of the car i have a hard time figuring out how they are going to pay for it. Maybe it won't be as much as we think, who knows. Just ready for ku to wash it's hands clean of this one

@BeddieKU23 yes that's correct. Surely there is some way to repay the money
If it's a lot how do you expect him to do So?
Take out a loan to pay for what you owe just to play. Jeesh this is beyond ridiculous

Oh don't trip he IS going to cost them some games - - -believe that. - - 9-23 - -from the field - -8 turnovers he is human for sure, it's ok talk him up - - it's all good. - -Trae is good for sure - -but definetly beatable. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
You can downplay him all you want
Don't they usually make you repay it to charity or something. I don't believe just giving it back solves the issue
If we are to believe the new news, Preston has to pay back money and doesn't have the money to do so.
Young with 2 free throws that win the game. So much for losing games for his team.
Up to 35 and 14 and the game is tied with 2 and change
Young has 33 and 13 and is the only reason his team is in the game
Tcu has about 7 bigs to throw out there it's relentless. Noi off the bench making 3s is tough for any team to deal with. Hamdy also having a career day. OU is not getting enough made shots from it's other players, so many misses on great passes from young
Texas has no shooters other then Jones who barely played at less then 100%. Coleman banked 2 in that tells you had bad they are from deep. This was a great percentage play to practice the zone and use it. Great decision by coach, even better that the players executed well. We should keep it in our bag of tricks the rest of the season
I didn't know Bamba could make the 3. He's years away from being a finished product but some NBA team could be sitting on a future all-star if he develops the skill on the offensive side

The block on Svi could only have been not goaltending if the trajectory of the shot would have missed the basket by at least two feet!
Nicely put
Great stuff. Love hearing this up close side of things
So what your saying about Preston is he needs to pay back money to get eligible and they don't have it? Sad Situation.
We controlled pace and made it and up and down game. That was the key to beating Texas at it's snail pace tempo
I don't think Newman fits on this team. He just doesn't seem to gel with anyone, there is zero rhythm in anything he does. It's the biggest disappointment to this team right now. Id say Preston but he's barely apart of the team as it is. Let me ask this question. Has Newman made one play all season where you were like oh wow that's nice? I watched him in particular last night and he picks and chooses where to exert effort. Some plays his defense is stellar, some plays offensively he makes the right read, pass etc but there is very little consistent effort in his game. If I was Self I'd be trying figure how to motivate him.
I like bringing him off the bench, I think he's shown he's not a starter in 13 games yet. Garrett just fits better with our other 3 guards right now. Garrett rebounds, defends and moves the ball as well as anyone on the team. Important that he continues to do those things
Bamba defended in bound plays. They were successful keeping us from running our flex play where we lob it to doke and run that free throw in play. Otherwise the press did give us some issue at first, Newman seems like the type that will turn it over horribly against press virginia
He's a much better shooter then garrett was at this same stage. He is a relentless attacker, we will love that about him
I think it's more of not having the guys with the mindset. Vick should be that guy, malik should be that guy, Marcus and Sam as well. Some of its the offense we run that's more east west then north south. We spend a ton of time passing the ball on the perimeter for some reason
Agreed. He obviously plays well against us because of that
Yup his ridiculous wingspan is just unheard of. I think he makes life really hard for the guards. We haven't shown to be a team smart enough to put our body into bigs and make them foul us
Looks like Andrew Jones is playing tonight. Not 100% but he played really well vs ku last season
Yeah this is a typical slog team from shaka. We have to bring one of our best offensive games to prevail in this one. I can see bamba being a big factor
Makes sense, use a no name program to showcase yourself for a year
Always thought unc had a great chance because of style of play. Have to think little going there didn't help him though
BMac with more aggressive nature to the hoop. So much more advanced then Ben was at this stage
Grimes is good enough to be OAD. We'll see if he's really the type I haven't been this excited for a guard signee in a long time
Texas has the # 2 defense according to Kenpom. Wonder how much of that is Bamba. Have to get him into foul trouble early and change the tempo
66 57 hopefully we have the 66
It's interesting, I've thought that KU decided to vet this situation itself in order to possibly speed the process. Last time we waited on the ncaa to do it's job diallo had to get a lawyer to bring resolution. There's no telling how long this situation would have took had KU reported the issue from the day it happened and let them dig. KU did the leg work instead. He's still missed 12 going on 14-15 and soon more so really what has been the benefit of KU doing anything. If it ends up helping Preston play 10-15 games I guess we can be thankful for their work. I'm sure they have worked hard to bring resolution to this.
I agree we are more plugged into KU . Name a big program that's had any drama with its bigs in the last 3-4 years?
When was the last time we had a drama free season? Every season is something new or something that just continues to derail a potential great season.
Self doesn't have many flaws but it's hard to defend his recent record with these OAD bigs.
I would suggest he start vetting these kids more for their "off the court" character then their on the court product. I know it must be incredibly frustrating to him, he's given a good deal of praise to Preston's talents when he signed, through the summer and into the fall and he's got nothing to show for that talk.
Absolutely agree Self is leading on the drama with the comments. We'd be just as pissed at no comment, no update. But the Coach-Speak "we're close" isn't any better
It's not the same at other programs. It's a bad trend nobody really wants to blow the lid off
I don't have faith with him.
We are better off riding with what we have
If what we have isn't good enough that's just a reality to deal with later. We have 9 guys who can make this season what it is
I've also watched Texas a good amount. They are 264th in the country in adjusted tempo according to Kenpom. Whether its bad shooting, missing a key player etc this team doesn't do anything fast on offense. Playing KU where they are an underdog I'm sure limiting possessions is one of the keys Shaka is going to preach. They can't go up and down the court with KU and he knows it
Since they played Gonzaga they haven't given up 70 points in their last 6 games. They recently were in a 47-46 slugger. It's going to be low scoring game unless KU controls the pace with its guards and finds a way to keep Bamba away from blocking everything.
Luckily we've played well in Austin lately, we've had some really good offensive games since Shaka became coach. Hope it continues
Could be a low scoring game unless we control the pace. We have to run Bamba off the lane, he's an elite eraser. The best shot blocker in the Big-12 since Withey by far
He's certainly at the right place if he does have NBA dreams which I'm sure he has. I really do think he'll make a development jump at some point, could be between this year and his Jr season or Jr year to Sr year. Luke Maye of North Carolina had a few big games last season as a soph and now is their leading scorer. Not saying Mitch's situation is the same but maybe there will be a point this season Mitch has one of those games where everything clicks and he builds off that.

BShark and beddie know. Lon knows. Cindy is jabbin' Bill in the ribs, tellin' him, Listen up! On the 23rd of January Norm Roberts and that Hudy lady are gonna be gnawin' their Doublemint. This Okie kid was BORN READY!
Young won't beat KU alone, he'll need plenty of help from Manek, James etc. The key is if Young is getting everything his own way his mates will feed off that energy. If we find ways to force him into misses or get a few turnovers off his passes then we stand a good chance. Young is the real deal, not dismissing what I've seen of him. I think he's the one kid in the Big-12 we don't have an answer for because he's responsible for so many points, not just his own. KU has won plenty of games before where a team had a featured hyped player. Doesn't mean we can't be beaten. Our coach usually game plans well for these type of situations. That and the guy guarding him will probably be pretty jacked up to try and stop him (I'm looking at you Devonte).
He asked a walk on in a blowout if he could play a few minutes. Big difference in asking him to play in a big 12 game that most likely wont be a blowout don't you think. Funny stuff as always
I think any decision that would involve Mitch redshirting is probably centered around what doke does at seasons end. If he leaves Mitch will be needed. Self will look to him to lead what will be a team lacking experience. I can't see Mitch being shut down for a year in that situation. I would love to see what a redshirt year would do for Mitch but I think that won't happen and we will probably be very happy to see his development going into next year. Always a chance he could be the next Luke Maye?

@jayballer54 -You don't need to know the offense to be able to rebound and supply fouls to give & defend - & screen and roll really simple and De-Sousa. knows how to do that right now. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
any coach would roll in their grave reading that.
Don't forget KJ who's really not a SF but could be a small ball 4. Regardless I think he's going to play so that's another guy that needs to be accounted for.
I hope Doke is back. Doke makes that frontcourt a real nightmare for the rest of the country, something we haven't had in a long time. Doke also limits the impact either Lawson or De Sousa/McCormack will have. Seems too crowded.
I think us as fans are more fixated on Lightfoot possibly redshirting then what is really going to happen. Next year he should have opportunity to focus his development on being a 4 which should make a huge difference. His outside shot has improved and could be something that separates himself from the other big's. Maybe Mitch will be in for a big jump from Soph to Jr year.
If Silvio can play Friday Self will play his walk-ons. He played the football player at the end of a blowout win, not exactly throwing him out there in the fire. Now Sosinski has had more time to learn what is required of him if need be. He'll play the guys that know what they are doing. That's not Silvio yet. We are in Big-12 play, Bill Self's baby. On the road defending our streak, yeah Self isn't about to throw guys out there for the sake of it.
In due time though. I'm hoping by February he's either our 2nd big or 3rd big in the rotation
See I agree that it would be best for the silvio if he was good enough to play right away. But what's best for the team? And what's best for the guys that have been battling together for the first 2 months of the season. When silvio is what's best for the team as well as himself that's when I think we begin to see what his role could be here this year
I agree I would play him and see what he can do. We just know our coach is huge on trusting his guys before playing them. In this case he knows nothing of how KU does anything and has not earned anything. I think everyone involved knows he can help us but it's about using him when he's ready.
It just seems like a out of the blue decision. Georgia could have a new coach by the time he gets there. I'm surprised he announced this early

I don't think anyone would care really if he left
Not so sure about that. - I thin there would be enough that would care IF he did leave.
I think we are going to regret ever signing him when we reflect on the season
Even if he's cleared to play he will have had 3 practices. Self would play his walk ons before him at that point in my opinion. It's going to take weeks wouldn't you think for him to learn the offense and defensive responsibilities
Don't understand that one. Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at Kentucky before it's all said and done. I think he's by far the best pg in the 19 class
I don't think anyone would care really if he left
