Saw that, Avery's problem now. Wonder if he'll fight his new teammates
Hopefully we get Lester's son in the "2019 Recruiting Thread"
They really dropped the ball at Georgetown and the roster has been decimated. They are looking at a 10-12 win season next year.
Exactly and he's not the type Self usually likes anyway. He's very good inside the arc but doesn't shoot from the perimeter much and doesn't make it part of his game.. He went through a recent game in AAU without attempting a single jumpshot
Coleby looking at a bunch of Mid-Majors plus possibly Seton Hall.. Believe he's visiting Western Kentucky soon. Sounds like Dwight understands his limits and is looking for the right level to have a good final season. More evidence to suggest he was never in the cards for next year after the slow rehab
Definitely, I think it was a punch for Georgetown as well who despite hiring a big name does not seem to be getting much momentum from it. Hubb will be the good for Brey.
Javonte Smart included us in his top 6. Disclaimer though if UK offers he'll end up there. Oklahoma St is involved interestingly enough along with FSU, UCLA & the local school LSU. I don't see LSU being his destination. Have we ever landed someone from Louisiana? Have to say we probably are not a serious threat
Really good point about upgrading.
I agree that if Coleby was our #3 we were limiting ourselves to a player with limited physical ability at this point and for a team that's always competing for championships there was no reason to be dependent on him in a consistent capacity with that knee. Unfortunate for him.
On Tape, Whitman looks like the exact type of player we needed in the post to compliment Doke's strength, raw talent and Preston's perimeter skills. Hopefully his transition is as seamless as other grad transfers make it at other schools.
Whitman seemed to be the "nudge" for Coleby to look elsewhere. The "unofficial" "we've replaced you", and in today's age kids need little nudging to look for greener pastures.
And what do we do with Svi's scholarship if he stays in the draft? We don't seem to be involved with anyone left on the market at this point.. I suppose we'll know within 7 days Self has been loyal in keeping that spot open for him.
Its actually a valid concern or prediction about Doke. We saw how much we missed Doke's talent but because we had the best OAD in KU history and POY we compensated.
Now the OAD and POY is gone and certainly our front-court lost Lucas so he's definitely the key to the season. If he's not able to anchor the post I'm not sure where the upcoming season goes..

I think he'd be fine as a short 4. Leaves Whitman to play back-up C.
That could actually work out pretty well.

Correction, Wichita State is in the AAC and not in the A10.
Woops, fixed.

Not top 5? lol please Keegan
UNC/MSU/AZ/KU
That's the top 4 EVERYONE should have and I think it's mostly interchangeable.
UNC dependent on Bradley's return. Their front-court looking mighty weak without him. Maye solid but he is what he is. Probably a middle Top-10 team with him, in the teens without.
We all know there won't be a pre-season top 5 without Kentucky & Duke in it. As soon as the media realizes College Basketball is coming back around they shove themselves head deep in their jock-strap.
Tough predicting who's going to be good. A lot of brand names lost a lot of talent. A quick look through:
AAC- Wichita St, top 10 team/Cincinnati looks the class, SMU down, UCONN lost a ton.
ACC- Duke- will start 3 freshman and Tripper is back, UNC- loses 3 starters and down recruiting yr, Virginia- down, Louisville- has best starting 5 in conference but will rely on freshman in rotation, Notre Dame- level but no bench, FSU- down big-time, Miami- level with chance to be better, Virginia Tech- level with chance to be good again.
A-10- VCU- down, Dayton- down, Rhode Island- can be a tourney team again.
Big-10- Wisconsin- down, Michigan St- Top 3 team, Michigan- down dependent on Wagner/Wilson, Purdue- down, Maryland- level depending on Jackson, Northwestern- can build off last season, Minnesota- same, can be better, rest of league terrible.
Big-12 KU- obvious Top 10 team, Baylor- down but Top 25, WVU- level, ISU- down, OU- should be much improved, TCU- should be much improved.
Big East- Nova- down slightly, Butler- Level, Xavier- Down if Bluiett leaves, Seton Hall- Level, Creighton- Down, Providence- level.
Pac-12- Arizona- Top 10 team, Alkins decision key, Oregon- Down, UCLA- Down, dependent on draft decisions, USC- Top 10 team if Stewart/Aaron return, rest of league terrible.
SEC- Kentucky- 7 of 10 are freshman, down if Diallo stays in (Bamba wildcard?). Florida- Top 10 team, South Carolina- Top 25 team, Arkansas- Top 25 team, rest of league is guess work to terrible.
Gonzaga- down, waiting on Williams decision.
Going to be a very unpredictable season past the top 5-7 teams

I don't believe that list has many options either.
A graduate transfer that hasn't announced his intentions or finding something on the International pool could be an option.
MiKyle McIntosh would be perfect. I believe he still has his name in the draft though.
Forgot about him. He's basically a better Mitch Lightfoot at this point but what we probably need is a 6'9, 6'10 athlete. Tilmon would have been ideal. Who knows what's going to happen with the last scholarship if Svi stays in

Well forgive me if these have already been mentioned but some others we have offered for 2019: - -5 Star Keion Brooks out of Ft Wayne Indiana , lists Xavier, Purdue, KU right now , -- - Interest from Michigan State - -& Indiana
Then there is Ashton Hagans out of Covington Georgia - - - PG - - - has offers from Wake F , Louisiana St , Georgia , Fla , Fla St , & KU
Plus - -Joey Baker - - These are some other 2019 recruits.
Then was you was wondering when someone should get into recruiting a player - -well another 2020 recruit we have offered - -R J Hampton - -out of Little Elm Texas 6'3 PG- - -has got offers from Texas , Oklahoma St , SMU , Texas A&M , KU
Heard anything on any of these guys - -holler - - -ROCK CHALK AL DAY LONG BABY
All good talents. Brooks seemed pumped about the offer.
Hagans has had a very good spring so far. One to keep an eye on.
Baker, also a talent. Tough recruiting area he's from though
I don't believe that list has many options either.
A graduate transfer that hasn't announced his intentions or finding something on the International pool could be an option.
I wouldn't go that far. The 2 guys in particular are just not likely to be serious options given what's known about each's recruitment.
Reid has a handler that wants him to stay relatively close to home.
Jahvon Quinerly is one of several PG's Self is after but likely Grimes and Dotson are priorities over him so its hard to land an Elite PG if your after others..
Self's needs at least 1 top PG, a top SG, a wing, and a top 5 (depending on Doke's season).

@BeddieKU23 Ya that is what I'm thinking. - -Like it states he has star written all over him - -continue to develop, and like you say anyone and everyone gonna be after him - That's why we if we are not already making contact when we can - -watching him all the things that go into - hit him hard and heavy. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
We certainly have the Embiid angle to sell him, he's from Mali so maybe even the Diallo angle as well. I don't know how early is too early to get involved with 2020 kids but definitely laying the ground work would be something they should be thinking about. The 19/20 talent in the KU recruiting area is filthy. It's hard to imagine we could fill up those classes with local products but in this case the talent definitely is worth doing so.
If Svi does return then Self is definitely a lucky riverboat gambler.
They must have known Dwight was looking for something else for a while as the signing of Whitman now seems to be that insurance policy instead of any Billy Preston concerns.
If Svi doesn't return I'm hoping that scholarship gets filled with an Athletic big (and who knows if one exists at this point). This is really the new normal, not having a complete roster well into May..
I can see early signs of a Top 5 player in his class. Players like him will have all the top programs following especially if he continues to improve further. I do hope we are getting involved no matter if he's 4 years away or not.
Definitely, he doesn't look like a freshman
Maybe so, that's if KU doesn't land a guard commit between now and visit time..
i bet neither of these guys even visit KU

@BeddieKU23 maybe I should take Matt's job over at the Shiver 😂
You could certainly do a better job then him seems how he's just a puppet for KU recruiting
nice call @Kcmatt7 on the Coleby news before it became a reality.
The funny part is Tilmon most likely won't even start at Missouri
guess the open scholarship could be going to someone else if Svi/Dwight leave..
In the end kids still have to want to end up in Kansas.
We can wow them with facilitates, History, an Elite Program, Passionate Fan-Base etc and in the end it cannot change the location.
It's why KU spends a lot of money recruiting because its hard to overcome perception.
Would Nike help funnel some kids our way? I'm sure they would but is that how Self wants things done?
Doesn't he want kids at KU that he wants, not because Nike says they will go there. We all know the "legal" behind the scenes stuff happens on the AAU scene. It's hard to believe that many of these kids have handlers that influence their decision. I won't be as naive to think Self is 100% clean and doesn't get involved but I do think he likes to do things fair so maybe Adidas is the best way? We don't seem to hear Adidas funneling all its kids KU's way or Louisville.
I'd love to pick Self's brain on what he thinks about the Nike/Adidas/Under Armour debate
If speculating, I would speculate Svi and Coleby's decisions have absolutely nothing to do with each other from a timing perspective.
Svi is begging a team to take him in the 2nd round and will stay in the draft if he gets any kind of guarantee. Looks like he'll rehab his ankle and try and do a few more workouts before the deadline. And there was a good point made by some NBA people about Svi's role if he does go back to College. He's most likely the 3rd-4th option again so going now might be his best chance. He may not have an expanded role to put up better #'s etc and may end up hurting whatever his stock is right now.
Coleby graduating was always a possibility, just not one that was talked about much. I think he goes somewhere he can get more then a rotational role.
Having the spot open and possibly grabbing Tilmon would be best case scenario of losing both
Could be that Svi is staying in and this opens up a spot to get Tilmon.
I was really hoping we'd get that Calvert. LOL
Jonathan Givony @DraftExpress is who reported it
I still think he's gone but maybe it effects him getting workouts with teams who watched him yesterday. If someone guarantees him to be drafted he's gone
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk sprained his ankle, prior to the athletic testing, and has been forced to withdraw from the rest of the NBA Combine
There seems to be some positive movement that he may end up somewhere in the 2nd round. I just hope he lands somewhere where he fits.
For Frank, I'm sure he wants to be drafted, he deserves it

Hey, got a question. Heard guys talking about these two pretty frequently. My question is and this is certainly because I simply don't know. - - I have heard kind seems some are kind of cool of Dotson. - -talking about how they much would rather have Grimes. I understand he is a higher ranked player - -but both are really very good players, maybe I'm not seeing something - -is there something off the court with Dotson? - - is a black sheep? I don't know simple question. - I would love either one of them - -just curious. thanks guys. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
When we landed Charlie Moore that took the pressure off landing multiple top guards. Moore and Dotson are similar height so the staff is probably not looking to ideally get 2 small guards. Who knows though, Dotson is playing very well this spring and making a push to be ranked higher.
Of the 2, Grimes is an NBA player in 1-2 years. He's got the size to play PG at the next level and the game as well. Grimes is capable of playing both guard positions in College which I think a lot of KU fans recognize he's the perfect fit to take Newman's spot after next season.
I think some of the local schools will push on Dotson to stay home as this thing moves forward. Duke has made him a bigger priority, although he still falls behind Jones/Garland right now on their board. NC St will push for him with all the open scholarships they have and we can bet every dollar we own Dotson is going to end up somewhere where he can start as a freshman. Charlie Moore makes that seem unlikely at KU..
Mason played very well and there were plenty of scouts etc that expressed such.
Having the 2nd best vertical is going to help him get drafted, "Hudyized".
5'11 in socks, 6ft in shoes. We knew that coming in.
Svi shot well in the drills I think 70%.. Scrimmage, not so much
It's funny, I had totally forgotten Bruce had got to a Final 4 until HEM mentioned it
12 years of average teams will do that to one's ability to remember the one blip on the map
Seemed like a well open interview. Usually its one-sided towards one program recruiting the player. Nothing great to say about KU, interesting to note that he was quick to say his mother's preference for KU wasn't a factor. Can never believe that, he's playing the game
So 12 of the 14 players invited to the Combine that didn't sign with an agent- 12 of them were polled to return to College.
Svi was one of those that should return.
So that naturally means he's 100% gone. Book it
In HS yes, but in College its always different. He does look like he will be a man among-st boys wherever he plays. Definitely seems like AZ or Kentucky will be his destination

Funniest coach in the land by far. And I don't mean funny in a good way, he's absolutely delusional.
As long as he can recruit kids that nobody else from a Power 5 conference wants he can put a few more play harder banners up on the wall.
K-St deserves this pile of crap

@BShark I would classify Dedric as a 5 star, although he was ranked as a 4 star originally.
In terms of his impact definitely. He will likely be more productive than any 2018 post KU could realistically add.
I think we can say that's a fact Jack. Who knows the last time a Elite program was able to gain a 20 & 10 guy with NBA potential. It might even be true to say its never happened before. Outside of Bagley being some unguard-able phenom in College, your right KU wasn't going to land someone who could make the impact Dedric will
it's easy to remember the misses and forget the one's we do get for granted.. We are always going to miss on guys, maybe even some we should get. This is 2017 where many of these top kids don't care about what school they attend anymore
Senior Graham is back - that scared the top PG's away.
Newman- everyone knows Malik, nobody wanted to compete for his spot.
Vick/Svi/Cunliffe- We got Cunliffe Mid-Semester luckily as insurance for Svi's pending decision (Sam- Top 40ish kid out of HS). Vick has been a long-range NBA prospect since he step foot on campus. Weren't getting a OAD wing this cycle with those guys on the roster.
PF- We missed here (Ayton obviously), but went with plan B - OAD Billy Preston.. We closed on him.
C- Doke- Everybody knows Doke couldn't leave so a high ranked C was never going to happen.
Meanwhile we got Garrett, a player so many programs never even saw. Ends up Texas Player of the Year, Top 40ish prospect on most boards. That's called stealing right there..
Whitman will be solid here, mature game, can score on the block. What's not to like about a polished post player coming here?
The point is, other then PF we didn't have a sure-fire open starting spot for these OAD kids. And we still ended up with a OAD at the position anyway. While we missed and the misses are highly public one's, we still have a great roster lined up for next season..
KUSTEVE said:
I didn't embrace the Transfer U angle at first, but I am warming up to it. 3 3rd year guys inserted into the lineup next year. 3rd year 5 star inserted into the lineup this year. I'll take those guys over the OADs every time. The last 5 stars that made it to their 3rd year were Perry and Wayne, and that worked out very well for us.
Bingo!
Cunliffe- 2nd yr 4 star as well.
And the next year, adding 43ppg, 20 rbg, 9 apg, 3 spg, 2.5 bpg among the 3 sit-outs. All a year to bond and practice together on the practice squad.. Fans will get over this quickly once they see them all in uniform
He just signed Billy Preston, a OAD and 5 star recruit..
More and more kids just don't care where they play, as long as they get what they want.
That's why a kid like Marcus Garrett has to be appreciated because he actually gives a crap where he's playing next year and doesn't care about earning his playing time. We are so lucky to have snagged him before others had a chance.
Newman was supposed to be a OAD and we are extremely lucky to have gotten him 2nd time around.
Looks like Emmitt Williams will be someone we can just forget about. Reading his handler is the one who put Blakeney from Louisville to LSU.. That was when Pitino started yapping about the shoe war "behind the scenes" recruiting.. Just crazy with these kids
So if we have a chance for Williams we all know ahead of time its because he's being placed there..
