Favorite Jayhawk ever! Just a stud no matter where his next chapter takes him. Thank you Frank for the past 4 years
No Missouri. HAHAHA.
Nobody cares that Porter went there
Tyler Davis will go for 30 naturally against KU
:shit:
I would have been a lot more pessimistic had Svi stayed in the draft but I'm good for now. I think there is a tremendous amount of talent on the team but we have absolutely no clue how these guys are going to play together. Italy helps, that will get their feet warm for the season.
Obviously Doke is the key in the post especially defensively. I don't know what to expect from him on offense after all the time he's missed. He is still going to be a major work in progress, but one I'm so excited to see progress. I do think he becomes one of the alpha's we will need as long as he can manage his fouls.
On the surface I'm not sure this is a great rebounding team outside of Doke/Preston/Vick. That's where Svi, Graham & Newman can all make strides this off-season. I'm hoping Whitman is a serviceable rebounder. Vick really has a knack for lose balls and his athletic ability gives him every chance to offer 4-5 rebounds a game.
Maybe the biggest effect to Svi coming back is how this creates depth for this team. The battle for that wing spot is going to be awesome and then you have Cunliffe & Garrett battling for that 5th guard spot. 3, 6'5 to 6'7 guard/wings is crazy to bring off your bench. All 3 offering something different, its a good problem to have.
Starting 5 to start the season
Graham
Newman
Svi
Preston
Doke
Pretty easy to predict right now. I could definitely see Vick winning the wing spot.
I could also see Self starting Whitman just to lay into Preston. Regardless we should have 7 really solid rotation players.
Then you sprinkle in Lightfoot, Cunliffe & Garrett as needed and this is a top to bottom talented team.

How does this team replace Frank's refuse to lose mentality that was responsible for so much of last year's success? It doubt it will be from Devonte, who has tended to passively float through entire halves of games. Who will be the dog? Maybe Devonte will step up. I hope so. As always, I'm excited for the next season and I look forward to reading everyone's posts. RCJH
Tough to replace Mason in so many ways. His Jr year though wasn't flashy, he blended on a talented team but took it to another level his Senior year. We all wondered how we would replace Perry Ellis but those concerns left the building pretty quick once the season started. Devonte did the same thing his Jr year (deferring, playing his role) and now has the chance to use the blueprint Mason paved for him. This is Devonte's team and I'm sure he'll be eager to live up to those expectations. We have a great blend of NBA talent, veterans and young talent on this squad. Will be very interesting to see how it all meshes

Supper was crowlicious
The only player that lost in this announcement is Vick. Not that he won't play a ton regardless but for him showcasing his game in a 30 minute + role would have been ideal for his professional aspirations after his Jr year. Might be the difference in getting him back as a Sr...

All over Twitter. He announced on his instagram
Great decision. So happy to see him back
Wow he's backkkk

@BeddieKU23 yeah theyll be loaded again. What we really need for next year is another wing player.
They added Knox, they are just being greedy adding anyone else.
Lots of roster in-balance and the youngest team in Kentucky History. I don't think this batch of freshman are game-changers though. Guys coming off the bench could actually be their best players in the long run

What in the world. Well, I don't think he honestly changes much for UK, slightly more depth but he is an ultrabricker.
Adds more depth and insane athletic ability though. Alexander and Baker can come off the bench.. scary lineup combos

Absolutely. Would really just be a great addition.
Definitely.. We'll know soon whether to pursue

Just lol. He could have done this in 2016.
That's so 2016. Kids need the limelight

Mo Wagner of Michigan returning to school
Source of Ukrainian basketball Federation are saying Svyatoslav Mikhailiyuk is close to get draft-promise from one NBA team.
he gone
Nice! I'm already 0-1, hopefully 0-2 involves Svi..
Bradley not coming back pegs UNC about 10-15 spots down the pre-season list. One proven forward and 3 freshman ranked outside the top 100..
Guys taking their decision to the wire. Predictions for those deciding today..
Svi- Stays in
Tony Bradley (UNC)- Returns to School
Vince Edwards (Purdue) - Stays In
Caleb Swanigan (Purdue) - Stays In
DJ Wilson (Michigan) - Stays In
Moritz Wagner (Michigan) - Returns to School
Jonathan Williams (Gonzaga) - Returns to School
Hamidou Diallo (Kentucky) - Stays In
Omer Yurtseven ( NC St) - Returns to School
Shaqquan Aaron (USC) - Stays In
Tacko Fall (UCF)- Stays In
I think he goes and honestly I'm gonna be mad about it because he makes KU a lot better by staying. We've seen most people in his position come back from other schools so it's going to sting if he stays in and doesn't get picked in June. I hope I'm wrong
Just thinking that we can't let that scholarship go to waste. We have recruited him previously, he'd be in the rotation if not fighting to be a starter. Great size, shooting ability etc for the wing spot. If we wanted to get someone of similar ability to Svi he's the only one left..
Will be interesting to see if KU gets involved after tomm if svi stays in the draft
Looking at last years as a baseline I took the 3 most popular mock's (ESPN, Draft.net & Draftexpress). Mind you this was just a quick compile so there may be some error.
ESPN- 10 correct 1st round picks, 1 2nd round pick (picked the correct team but player was drafted in 1st).
25 of 30 correct 1st round overall (players ESPN mocked in the 1st round were drafted).
Draft.net- 4 correct 1st round picks, 4 correct 2nd round picks.
27 of 30 1st round overall
Draftxpress- 8 correct 1st round picks, 0 2nd round
26 of 30 1st round overall.
Overall I think these sites generally know who's going in the first round but with trades etc always tough to predict outside the top 10 picks. 2nd round is a total crap-shoot with only Draft.net correctly picking anyone in the 2nd round. We likely will have little clue where Mason ends up before hand.
Yeah this one surprises me. Bowen doesn't care where he plays as long as he can go somewhere for 8 months
MJ Walker announces tomm, could be anyone although it seems Virginia Tech has the most recent momentum.
Texas has emerged as a contender for Brian Bowen, the highest rated player left unsigned. Jeez
Washington would potentially be a great fit, closer to home and backing up Wall. I have seen Jennings and Burke are free agents and not likely to be re-signed which puts the Wizards in need of a solid backup PG. They currently have the 52nd pick which is probably around where Mason may fall anyway...
My thoughts exactly after seeing that.
I would assume you were talking about Jones right?
Looked pretty darn good against KU last season. Lots of reasons to think he'll flourish with another season, and he did get better as the season went on. Was in double figures in all but 4 Big-12 games. He's easily their go-to on offense this year
Keep in mind Texas won 10 games with Jones and potential first round pick Allen. 10.
They certainly have some talent on the roster but lack the coach that knows what to do with it
Andrew Jones of Texas is returning to school. Big for them.
Jevon Carter also returning for West Virginia. Forgot he even entered the draft.
Now only if KU could get good news from Svi with the same type of situation.
It will be a really short bench perimeter wise until December if he doesn't return. I get the feeling the longer this drags out to Wednesday I think he's staying in. Just my gut call here as there has been very little information available about if he's done any workouts (post ankle injury) for teams or rumors of him leaning one way or the other.
As far as the question, we are a much better team with Svi. How much better? I would say 3-4 wins better with him. He would be one less question we'd have about this upcoming season and there is a lot of them at this point. The Svi/Vick duo would take a lot of pressure off expecting Marcus Garrett or Sam Cunliffe to perform right away and in certain situations would allow Self to go small and capitalize on putting his most talented kids on the floor. Svi is more "luxury" then need but one we'd love to have available and possibly the key to the season
Another blurb on Grimes. He was matched up against fellow 5 star PG Immanuel Quickly recently at Adidas Gauntlet. Quickly, badly outplayed him. The next day Grimes rebounded with a big game.
Even if say Billy Preston starts at the 4 he's more guard than post player.
In all I didn't find his comments to be anything we didn't expect with the roster we have currently.
Svi coming back would put him in a position to put his 5 best players on the court again which would make the 4-1 a viable option
Source that is well connected to the houston high school basketball scene told me today that he wants Kentucky
In regards to Grimes.
If true just get it over kid and let KU recruit someone else. No surprise here

KC Star article says he's a 6'7" forward. The guy shrunk. Interesting to hear how he has expanded his skill set since leaving Kansas, particularly ball handling.
Well he is 57 so height tends to start declining at that point!
Had to say it
Couldn't happen to a better man!!

@BeddieKU23 well two things about this for me. - -One since he had already enrolled and was a student then I am assuming - -wouldn't he have to sit a transfer year? - -Two - - IF SVI doesn't come back, again which you and I both seem to agree we don't think he is - -and we have that scholarship - -then really our needs are more for a BIG of some sorts more then another guard of any type I would think. - -I think our guards are in better shape then our bigs. - - Vick -- Preston - -I think Whitman can probably play 4 OR 5 - Lightfoot if necessary . Kind of thin at the 5.
Our Backcourt - -Graham -- Newman - - Garrett - Cunliffe at mid semester - -as far as that goes Vick could probably slide and play some 2 need be for spot minutes. - -Not just really sure a fill of the Scholarship we needs more in the Backcourt compared to our front line especially at the 5 spot. - -That's just me. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
I don't think he'd have to sit because he never played a minute and there was a coaching change which is the reason for him backing off his pledge. I'm assuming he'd be free to play this upcoming season seems how he was a 2017 recruit that most likely red-shirted the spring semester to get a leg up for the fall. Kind of an odd situation but I do think he'd be able to play wherever. Maybe it would be a situation where he's eligible after fall semester (meaning he'd red-shirted a full year).
With that last scholarship if its not Svi I don't know what is the most ideal addition to the team. We have 4 posts and until December we only have 4 guards eligible. I'm not sure Self wants to chance having just 4 eligible guards for 1/3 of the season. I know we are not extremely deep up front either. Tough call, that's the risk of getting Charlie Moore.
L.J. Figueroa, a Top-100 SG (110 composite on 247) has asked out of his LOI from New Mexico St. Chose NM St over Miami, Louisville among others. He enrolled early at NM St as well. If he gets his release maybe he's an option when we find of Svi's decision next week.
The Sydney Kings professional basketball team in the National Basketball League in Australia announced with gusto on Thursday night the signing of former KU standout Perry Ellis.
According to the release, Ellis will participate in a full summer schedule in the United States before joining his new teammates in Sydney unless an NBA contract is offered as a result of his summer performances.
Good for Perry, let's see if he can impress this summer
Bamba is good for the Big-12, easily the biggest name and has the most pro potential in the league for next years draft.
You just summed up how delusional that bunch is.
Bamba will probably thrive at Texas given he's got no resistance for playing time. And with Coleman running the show they can put him in positions to get offensive rebounds and lobs which he excels at. Defensively he's easily going to lead the Big-12 in blocks and be a + rebounder for his position. He is not polished offensively but he does have some moves and his wingspan is completely off the charts which will make him impossible to stop if he develops.
2018 Draft is going to have some real potential in it as well. Shaping up to be another good one IMO.
I don't see Vick, Doke, Newman or Preston listed on Draftxpress. Draft.net has Vick 1st round and Preston, Newman Svi 2nd.. With all these guys playing major roles on next years squad I think that will chance a bit
Will be interesting to see if he's scared by the OAD they signed Mitchell Robinson. Wherever he lands hopefully he's healthy and has an opportunity
I thought the same thing. Both have this belief that he's better then he is currently. Maybe by Senior year he's Kaleb level okay which isn't saying much but fits where both were ranked coming out of school.
Defensively it makes them formidable, without Jones back though they are terrible. At least it wasn't UK
Not sure a year off will help Jeter become something. Every recruiting service completely whiffed on his eval
