@BShark

Maybe going to school was better then playing for UW this year:smiley:

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 04:26 PM

Nebraska's starting PF just transferred. Can't see them giving us a game next year..

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 04:21 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

No, there was some talk some guys would follow Porter but I don't think that's happening. Tilmon is sticking at Illinois which was the guy some people thought could follow. Missouri is going to be terrible again even with a talent such as Porter who'll put up video game numbers every night.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 30, 2017 04:17 PM

@dylans

Bamba is just going to be an absolute pest for any team that plays against him. He could defensively have the impact that a Anthony Davis had. If he ends up at Kentucky we'll play him next year anyway. He'll make Kentucky really scary in the front-court again.

He's not a polished offensive player so he's really not in the mold of the players you mentioned above. He might have the most potential of anyone in the class because he plays hard and if his offensive game catches up he's going to be a major problem for any big.

If he was going to end up in the Big-12 I wish it was anyone but Texas. Just can't get on board liking Smart or wishing he gets talent that keeps him around

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 30, 2017 03:11 PM

@BShark

Definitely a waste. Seems like he's big on relationships.

Shaka knew him from Team USA..

He's friends with Quade & Diallo. I think Kentucky has the edge but they do have Richards which kind of limits his ability to play a lot. Texas, Duke can all offer him PT

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 30, 2017 02:53 PM

@BShark

He better not end up at Texas

But agreed he's going to be a problem defensively wherever he goes. Insane Wingspan

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 30, 2017 12:45 PM

@BShark

reading all that Andrew Slater posts, man its a miracle KU is able to get anyone with how much influence there is behind the scenes.

Loved that post where its better to not know "how its made".

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 30, 2017 10:35 AM

word is Barrett will be re-classifying into the 2018 class. KU will have plenty of room to sell to him.. I know we are in it, but the "shady" side of recruiting is going to be a factor with him

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 30, 2017 10:03 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

Yeah Newman's practice year has been a big benefit to him, Coach talked about him a few weeks ago. They sound very optimistic about his role next season.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 30, 2017 10:01 AM

@truehawk93

We might be waiting a while too. Don't expect Duval to decide before the underclassmen draft deadline. I expect this will go into May.

MickeyD game • Mar 30, 2017 09:59 AM

@Big-Clyde52

Preston showed off some skill. Can't get too excited, Cliff Alexander was making 3's a few years back and Diallo looked like a future NBA all-star after the MickeyD/Jordan games. Now we just hope he actually makes it to campus

@jaybate-1.0

apparently its okay to miss the deadline to respond to the allegations as I read UNC has not responded within the 60 day? period. We both know there's too much money associated for anything to really happen to UNC

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 03:30 PM

@Blown

In today's age of recruiting, KU being the "biggest offer" hasn't worked out so well recently

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 03:26 PM

@Blown

Said recruit has not visited KU for what its worth. But Marcus Garrett never visited before committing so its not the most unlikely thing to happen.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 03:25 PM

@BShark

Which is why I have doubt about what is being said. But I would be okay with said situation happening

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 03:16 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

If this person is right kudos to her/him for having that information.

Self has not met with players and won't until he gets back from Final 4.

But I don't think one could know both situations from what is currently known about each

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 03:09 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

a hint, its about a player leaving the program as well as saying another will be joining

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 03:06 PM

Just maybe reporting early what I think most people think is going down anyway.

The 2nd part, not so sure its a 1 for 1 deal. But that would definitely make said recruit more attractive to coming here

Optimistically Jackson could come back and be the #1 pick next year. He's widely regarded as the #3 pick right now in a loaded draft. Next year he would be a cinch for the #1 spot unless some freshman blew up. Another year to sharpen his shooting skills would definitely make him a more complete player to scouts that worry about his ceiling on a NBA team.

Having said that we know he's leaving, he's 20 I believe, so he's old for a freshman and he did enough here in his one year to deserve to pack his bags up and become a professional. It's only a matter of time and I can't wait to see how his competitiveness thrives at the next level.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 09:39 AM

@truehawk93

Coleby should be back. Anything can happen though. Our post situation is a mess with a lot of potential.

Don't get your hopes up about Duval. This isn't forecasting as a recruitment where KU was really in it and the media was focusing somewhere else before the recruit picked KU (Like Jackson, Wiggins). The smoke for Duke from all accounts is accurate.

I could be wrong but I don't believe him leaving Baylor was all his own choice. He was suspended for 3 games during conference play and I believe that wasn't his first time getting in trouble with Drew.

@BeddieKU23 KU was in on him pretty hard, but I doubt he stays in the Big 12.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 28, 2017 07:32 PM

Not KU but Baylor's Al Freeman transferring. Graduate tranferring. Big Blow for Baylor.

Frank Mason was Named AP Player of the year

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 28, 2017 06:09 PM

I fully expect Graham & Svi will test the waters, they both could be combine invites as well. That will keep KU in limbo for any potential top player and will have us on eggshells for next year.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 28, 2017 06:08 PM

@justanotherfan

Interesting train of thought on Doke. I don't think we have enough sample size to determine how mobile he would be defensively as far as translating to the NBA. We'll see how much he's learned next year and whether he can be effective on a P&R like Lucas was. He did make tremendous strides with his body and I'm sure Hudy will continue to sculpt him into a man-child. The DeAndre Jordan comp is a good one. Hopefully next season he'll get to show us what he can do healthy. I don't see Doke listed in any early 2018 Mock draft so that's potentially a good thing for KU.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 28, 2017 02:47 PM

@BShark

Juiston looks a like a reliable option if he was able to transition into the system and the trip to Italy would certainly help him there. But your right overall.

@Kcmatt7

As BShark said the list is small, especially until Graham/Svi/Bragg decide on their future. April will provide more clarity

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 28, 2017 01:56 PM

@BShark

True, the six we potentially would have would be a great collection of talent. Really would allow Self to continue to be flexible with a perimeter oriented (4 guard offense). Svi, Vick, Cunliffe, Garrett have great size, athletic ability and the ability to guard multiple positions. Having 6 guards/wings would be ideal for depth and allow Self to potentially put more pressure on teams and keep legs fresher.

I don't think we can go into next season without getting another post. Not a single post player on the roster that doesn't have major questions to answer. A Preston/Doke combo sounds great on paper but comes with a lot of growing pains. Coleby, solid backup especially if he can maximize his off-season with Hudy. Lightfoot ? Bragg? Boy we have a lot of uncertainty down there.

LaGerald the Executioner. • Mar 28, 2017 01:45 PM

@approxinfinity

Actually I misspoke about Bell, he just sat one year and was not accused. The 3rd player was Brandon Austin, somehow I confused Austin with Bell. The two that ended up at different schools have sued Oregon for 10 million for the allegations brought upon them.

I also did not like Bell's post-game interview. In the heat of a defeat I feel its probably best I never stick around to listen to what the other team has to say. For now, my hope is that bell goes 0-7 in the next game and fouls out early:smiley:

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 28, 2017 12:12 PM

@BShark

Your going all Bham on us, I don't like it. Where's the positive KU news. That was full of nothing positive. I need sunshine pumping to the max, we need something good to put the Oregon loss behind us.

Problem is I think we'll see more negative news towards next years team before we get some momentum.

LaGerald the Executioner. • Mar 28, 2017 09:34 AM

@approxinfinity

I think Bell has been playing with a chip on his shoulder for years. He is a 4th year Jr because a few yrs ago he and 2 other star Oregon players were accused of sexual assault. I believe they were all acquitted but the allegation itself sent the two other players to different schools (one ended up at Houston, the other at UTEP). Bell somehow survived the ordeal and stayed at Oregon and has reaped the rewards of developing his game. I thought we let Bell control the paint and that is something you just can't do against a hungry player looking to block shots.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 27, 2017 07:42 PM

@KUSTEVE

Nobody wants Preston to be ineligible but at least we are not blindsided by his issues (Diallo) well in advance. More than anything I've just tried to keep the buckets fan-base well aware that Preston is not a slam dunk to play at Kansas. I hope all this goes away somewhow..

He's a fantastic talent, with some coaching needed around the edges. He's the type of 4 that would be tantalizing in KU's offense with his guard skills stuck in a legit 6'10-6'11 body. Very reminiscent of a young Marcus Morris with more athleticism

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 27, 2017 07:11 PM

@BShark

Syracuse will take him no questions asked. They currently have what 4-5 scholarship players..

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 03:43 PM

@FarNrthJHwk

11 games.

I suppose they could apply for a medical waiver, not sure the amount of games you can play in and get it.

I would tend to believe Doke won't be here 4 years, from what he said coming here to him being from another country, his goal is probably to get to the NBA and provide for his family. Maybe his mindset will change but Doke is probably smart enough to know his athleticism, size, and age will get him some hard looks from teams that are looking for a project to work with. And there was signs he was starting to improve rather quickly as well before the injury.. This off-season will tell a lot of how much he can improve

@mayjay

Your right, I feel that past defeats have been a product of the other team playing harder but Saturday felt different.

I really felt the game was over during the first 5 minutes, and having seen all the comebacks that KU put up this year having that feeling felt wrong but it wasn't. I sat through half the game thinking this is the last time I get to watch Frank Mason is a KU uniform, this can't be the last game Frank plays. We are playing so poorly, how can this possibly be after dismantling Purdue so easily.

The shooting woe's just seemed to make the entire team zapped of energy. How could that be, how could the moment be too big to overcome with all of this teams prior experience. Oregon thrived with the chip of losing in the Elite 8 last year, KU didn't. What gives? I'm always yelling my head off during the game but I found myself numb quick, not knowing how to respond to what I was watching. I didn't feel like I was watching the Jayhawks. And by saying all of this it doesn't make it any easier, just expressing that the way these guys played Saturday Night was not normal. No excuses Oregon was the better team, we didn't even have a glimmer of hope for almost the entire game. Maybe it makes it easier to swallow the defeat, as last years was IMO more heartbreaking. KU was playing its heart out last year but had similar shooting woe's. How can a coach make a team shoot better in that pressure moment? He probably can't do anything. Anyways, rant over..

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 03:29 PM

@justanotherfan

What will be interesting to see with Doke is how the injury effects his plan to basically be a 2AD. That was his goal coming in as he knew his age prevented him from leaving regardless of his health or how well he performed as a freshman.

It would seem all the lost time from this year would put him further behind to reaching that 2AD goal. With the NBA going further away from the Doke's of the world it will be very interesting to see how the NBA is going to value him for what he is. An extremely raw player with a high ceiling and size you just can't teach, Does the NBA label him sort of like Diallo or do they take his age into consideration and figure he's 2-4 years of development away from becoming something.

I don't follow the NBA enough to know exactly where his value would be but I would figure a 7 footer who can't shoot and is extremely limited in his knowledge of the game would warrant a first round pick. Again I could find a slew of things GM's might be intrigued with but that would have been the thinking of where the NBA was 10-15 years ago instead of where it is today.

And part of me is selfishly holding out that 2 years won't be enough for him but I'm wondering will he be labeled a high "potential" prospect or an "raw prospect" with down the line potential..

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 01:50 PM

@mayjay

I know this was addressed to HEM but I wanted to chime in as well.

If Healthy, Udoka would be a prime candidate for camps especially if invited. I think the kid needs all the experience, coaching and tips he can get. He basically only got his feet wet and lost an entire season of progression. It sucks he wasn't able to learn with Lucas for the entire season on all the fundamental things Landen did well for this team. Going to be an important off-season for Doke

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 01:46 PM

@BShark

Hopefully that settles that.

And for those who don't Twitter.

Malik said "don't believe the rumors"

Calipari Second Title Incoming • Mar 27, 2017 11:45 AM

Unbelievable run by SC. I still can't believe it

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 11:43 AM

It seems clear to me that Bragg might be moving on somewhere else. Not getting into the Oregon game doesn't seem coincidental. That will really suck but maybe its best. I'll wait to see what happens to comment further..

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 27, 2017 11:42 AM

@BShark

Woops, sorry I missed the point of this thread.

Funny, I had a feeling people would post fake news about Newman right after the season ended. If Newman didn't have a reputation that would cause this type of rumors to be started in the first place we would have no reason for concern but yet there is the slightest doubt put out there. He'd be crucified by his coach if he did leave. Which I can't imagine would look good on him after all the talk of him coming here and his commitment to play here at least 1 season. I hope for Malik and for KU he's putting on a Jersey this fall

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 27, 2017 11:21 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Competent, sure, but we both know Svi is not going to be a point guard if he's around next season. His role at KU and the role he'll have after KU will be most likely at the SF position. We're in trouble if we are forced to rely on any of the following players running the show (Newman, Svi, Vick). Players don't magically become something overnight(or even in 1 off-season) especially a floor leader after previously having little to no experience doing so in the past.

Self better find this team some ball handlers even if Devonte sticks around

Calipari Second Title Incoming • Mar 27, 2017 11:11 AM

Well I guess if KU is going to lose, I'm glad that Calipari went down as well in fantastically fun fashion. Alright I used enough F's for one day. His post game interviews are always full of laughable moments that we expect from a coach that didn't get his way.

@drgnslayr

It certainly played out like that.

How could our players not respond positively to the moment of going to the Final 4.

Instead the guys played tight, lost poise and forgot to play with a free mind. Psychologically Josh Jackson getting the 2nd foul was the first blow. Dorsey chucking shots at the rim to end the half was the 2nd blow. Then the 2nd half started and KU went 0 for whatever it was, meaning nothing at half-time had loosened them up, the was the 3rd blow. And then the half-hearted comeback when Svi cut it to 6, only to be out-hustled on the next possession yet again for a rebound. That was the final-fatal-blow.

It sucks that the season has ended so similar to past events. It makes you wonder what is really going on? How can the "other" team play so free and yet KU always finds a way to beat itself.. I fail to believe the guys were overconfident, we had dogs on this squad. But something was off, from the beginning of the game and we never found the recipe to overcome it.

Calipari Second Title Incoming • Mar 27, 2017 09:31 AM

@betterfireE said:

So basically we will have one point guard yes?

Right now we have just 1. And that one may test the waters and leave.. very sticky position to be in. No backups on the team, not a single primary ball handler on the team right now. We can only hope that Self goes out and finds someone who can help next year's squad.

Garrett ran point at his school but he's probably going to be more of a combo guard in college at his 6'7ish height. I love what Marcus is going to bring to this team especially defensively. He might be used in situations as a facilitator if we lose out on some options.

Even if Devonte returns we need another point guard that can play right away. Self has said Newman isn't an option to run point and that his best assets will be used at the 2 guard position. It will be a deviation from what we had the last couple years with Frank/Devonte.

Bill Self sucked last night. • Mar 26, 2017 07:48 PM

@HawkChamp said:

@BeddieKU23 After a certain amount of times, you have to accept the similarities. The problem is Self and his preparation. He has a tough time being a one seed and winning. Maybe next year we should aim for a two or three seed. Less pressure.

Yeah we should absolutely aim for a lesser seed. Let's throw some games during the year so we can make that happen. We should probably cancel the non conference so we get penalized in seed. Heck we might as well hope the star runs a story that cripples the program while we are at it.

Self shoulders the blame. He didn't get it done, so at some point we should get a new coach right? Let's get calipari or mark few. We should definitely start a fire bill self campaign

@Blown said:

@BeddieKU23 if Graham returns who runs point?

Preston has eligibility issues? So if he doesn't come we have Doke, Lightfoot, and Coleby ?

Yup Graham would run point.

Preston does have issues but he went to Oak Hill where they master in this stuff. His problem probably won't be grades but the amount of schools he attended and the fact 2 of them were basketball factories. Let's hope he got enough core classes before he went to Oak Hill.

Not a great front court if we don't have Preston. Bragg, I think it was telling he didn't play last night..

A lot of holes to fill with this team still. Self should sign to 13 guys which could mean 4 to 5 more players this spring

Bill Self sucked last night. • Mar 26, 2017 07:02 PM

@HawkChamp said:

@BeddieKU23 You miss the point. You obviously think it is some odd coincidence that Bill's teams play poorly or shoot poorly in the elite eight. Year. After year. After year. It is all about a free mindset my friend. From the beginning, Oregon looked like they desparately wanted a final four after last year - our guys were not nearly as aggressive.

Same thing with the Northern Iowa and VCU games. It is not a coincidence that whenever they come out with no energy they dont shoot well, while the other team has energy and they shoot well. You dont see the trend?

No I get your point loud and clear. I just fail to sit here and dig at it constantly in every post. All you have talked about is Villanova for the past year. We get it.

And as you said Oregon wanted it more. How is that anyone but the players fault that they couldn't match those 5 guys intensity and aggressiveness. They shot 30% from the field it's as poor a shooting game as any KU team has had in memory.

The players just didn't execute and that's the bottom line of it all

I have not kept up with recruiting at all. Can I get a summary ?

Billy Preston? Newman and Cunliffe. Marcus Garrett is next is 2 years away, Right?

Garrett is for next year, he's going to be a STUD.

Newman will start at the 2.

Cunliffe will compete for a starting spot at the SF once he's eligible.

Preston will be a while before we know if he's gonna put on a jersey. But he's got a great chance to start if he is here
