Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 17, 2017 03:54 PM

@Lulufulu

I rooted for UVM as well last night. I live in Southern Vermont! They played well, just came up short and the injury to Steidl didn't help. I thought Ernie Duncan missed some bad attempts. Lamb is good enough to play for anyone though. He stays 4 years and he's going to break a lot of records at the school

VOTE: Frank Mason! • Mar 17, 2017 01:52 PM

just read that Gonzaga's man leads the vote because he's from Poland and getting a lot of international voters..

@Crimsonorblue22

Exactly we'll see a story Saturday, next Wednesday etc..

@jaybate-1.0

It wasn't meant to be an analogy, more a comparison point of how a lot of coaches tend to find themselves back where it started if they are good enough and in the position to take it. Roy ended up back at UNC even though he had a great gig at KU. Going home worked for him. Steve has a good gig at UCLA but no ties to the West and in a good position with his son moving on. Both started getting asked the question around tournament time. We'll see but I wouldn't be surprised to see headlines after UCLA's tourney run is over if he is in contact to get the IU job

@jaybate-1.0

I believe UCLA is going to UA correct?

Just seems like the Roy/UNC talks back in the day. It seems inevitable Alford will be going to Indiana.

Obviously Call #1 will be to Steve Alford but I heard he's got a $7 million buyout so that's steep but if Indiana wants to win that's the price they will have to pay to recruit better talent and get better results on the court.

The appeal for Alford going to Indiana is great especially with his son a Sr and his banner freshman class headed off the draft. He'll have a good team next season but you wonder what the allure of coaching the school he once was a star for would be for him personally. Indiana isn't a step up from where he is currently and the pressure is the more or less then same

@drgnslayr

It's a sad situation. This is where society has gone today.

I like what Zenger did by saying sign the waiver and we'll talk because clearly everything being printed negatively about Jackson and the University is not the whole story.

The affidavit also made things seem a lot more clouded then once thought. It makes me think Jackson's lawyer is going to have a lot of ammunition to get whatever charges he's facing dropped.

This father/daughter are clearly nut jobs at this point. We've seen enough put out there to challenge the credibility of their mental thinking.

Regardless, this is going to impact Jackson's draft stock which I think is part of the ultimate end game for these people. They know he's a star going to the league and no matter if this is dropped or not teams are going to be putting up possible red flags on him. You'll see news articles online heading into the draft talking about "possible red flags", "Jackson must ace interviews to put behind off-the-court issues" etc, something like that. ESPN will run with it as they have every pathetic headline the Star releases without actually fact checking them. ESPN is hurting just as bad as the Star is financially. It's a good lesson for the University, Bill Self and especially Josh & Vick that everything they do is under the public eye..

as usual almost everyone with a pulse for West Virginia has a foul. Went up 27-12, game of runs puts Bucknell within 6 at 33-27.

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 07:31 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich

I look at the game a little differently if they meet. The press will be hard to prepare for in 1 day. Notre Dame only starts 1 true ball handler, the rest of their lineup is full of wings and an undersized 5. They don't turn the ball over much (only 9) a game but nobody outside of the Big-12 is prepared for the pressure WVU puts on you for 40 minutes. This could be a game where ND is up early because they are the better offensive team but one that WV wears them down as it goes on

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 07:18 PM

West Virginia having no problem today.

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 07:02 PM

some dude named Nana has 7 points for Bucknell already

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:47 PM

UNCW needs a stop bad

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:39 PM

@BShark

the best player in the game plays for SDSU. Not surprised they are playing well but winning this late in the 1st half. oh boy

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:38 PM

Virginia lives by Perrantes making acrobatic shots..

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:36 PM

nobody wants to score in this Zaga game..

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:32 PM

UNCW's leading scorer is 2-10 from the field and 2-6 from the FT line yeah that sums it up

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:24 PM

can't beat virginia bricking ft's

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:23 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich

Close, ND was not pretty

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:23 PM

@BShark

That's about 15 minutes real time

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:13 PM

UNCW looks toast

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:04 PM

really that was a shooting foul??

since when is battling for an offensive rebound without getting it a shooting foul?

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 06:03 PM

rabb strikes me as a Ed Davis type..

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:58 PM

@BShark

yes Bryce finally came alive. in that 1st half I don't think either of their leading scorers scored and they were up 15 at one point.

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:57 PM

Princeton hanging tough with Notre Dame..

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:29 PM

wow UNCW fell apart there. Hero ball don't win games.. need to regroup

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:21 PM

this looks way too much like a KU game

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:20 PM

Virginia coming to life with a 15-2 run..

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:16 PM

if Keats leaves UNCW as expected after this tourney and Cacok transfers, Bill Self better be at his front door...

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:13 PM

okay the UNCW guards are EN FUEGO

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:12 PM

@BShark

They lost a lot of their identity without Egbunu in the post. KU couldn't replace Landen Lucas if it had too, hard to expect the Gators to replace similar important talent

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:09 PM

@BShark

Nice pick but you should have kept it going, this team can beat Florida. I picked them to the 16

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:07 PM

@BShark

don't tell them. haha

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:05 PM

@BShark

5-5 3pt shooting from 2 guys certainly helps..

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 05:04 PM

my upset pick is looking good so far

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:58 PM

Virginia's offense in a nutshell. Bring the ball up the court, dribble for 20 seconds, pass once, shoot. If option A isn't available- crap

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:54 PM

I'd give anything to have Cacok- 79% shooter on 224 shots! Yeah 79%.

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:54 PM

@BShark

KU's new recruiting motto "poaching the coaching carousel"

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:51 PM

long range bomb for UNCW!!!

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:49 PM

FYI Tom Crean out at Indiana...

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:49 PM

@BShark

I want UNCW to win, felt they got Duke ref'd last yr big time.. Let's see if they can take down a diff ACC squad

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:46 PM

big fan of this announcing crew though. madness we always get the best. much better than ESPN's dog crew

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 04:44 PM

@BShark

Definitely hasn't opened up yet. I bet it does towards the end of half early 2nd though once teams get jitters out of the way. The 436 timeouts should help the coaches yell at them until they do

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 03:14 PM

@ParisHawk

Then we should be rooting for Nevada in the late game tonight. I don't think UVM can beat Purdue but we've seen crazier things happen.

FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR • Mar 16, 2017 02:36 PM

@KUSTEVE

You mean you still don't do this?

Its a tradition I have. Still haven't perfected it in 20+ years

Day 1 Tournament Day Thread • Mar 16, 2017 02:34 PM

Just a few hours away from tip.

Streaming some of the early action at work. Really interested in the UNC Wilmington/Virginia game.
Two Contrasting styles of play. Wilmington likes to get up and down the court, Virginia will put you to sleep if your not paying attention and we all know their defense prowess. UNC W played Duke tough last year but couldn't play enough defense to win. Virginia doesn't score so unless they have a breakout game I expect this could be an upset. The coach of UNC W is playing for a new job, expect his group to be ready to go.

What other games is everyone excited for today- besides all of them?

FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR • Mar 16, 2017 02:09 PM

It's my Super Bowl especially since I don't have a favorite NFL team.

Romar • Mar 16, 2017 02:07 PM

@BShark

Good point about the North Carolina recruiting pipeline.

I'm stunned Harris is ranked that low on most sites, I don't see 10 better PG's then him in this class and one that has considerable upside given his frame and abilities present day. He plays at a consistently good HS, I believe the same school that John Wall attended.

I have no idea what other schools were really after Blake because he shut down his recruitment down in the summer. I remember Virginia Tech being interested, his offer sheet is off the charts on 247. Being from Raleigh you would imagine NC State or UNC would have locked him up but signing with Washington you have to figure distance is not an issue for him which is a positive if KU did pursue him this time around.

I feel like sitting in this Duval race negatively impacts KU's chances to recruit others. Can't wait for this circus to be over with. Especially knowing there really isn't much hope to be in it. The only hope is KU does well in March and our guards showcase themselves

Glad UC Davis won.

That Moneke kid is talented, you'd swear he is bigger than 6'6 because he plays bigger than it.

Look forward to this one being a comfortable victory

Romar • Mar 16, 2017 10:52 AM

@BShark

Davis will stay West. I would expect either Gonzaga, Oregon or the Cali schools to be on him
