@BeddieKU23 joke of a half. And on senior night
and our defense was solid except for fouling in the last 3 seconds of the shot clock
refs oh lord
So Jackson is reminding us he's a freshman tonight.
Baylor imploding already. They were up 12-3.. Now 15-14 and just ugly basketball
In a recent game against Mater Dei, the 2 younger went 17-65 from the field! The middle Ball is barely a D-1 player IMO. The younger one is definitely more like Lonzo, shoots the ball from half court but is small.
Forgot about Tucker, can really really shoot the ball. I know that Georgia Tech was pushing for him with their PG committed being one of his friends. Thought Nova had a great chance with him.
facebook, instagram, twitter will probably be your best bet
Hope it keeps going all the way into April!
No I'm not there, I wish.. @Crimsonorblue22 is though that lucky duck.
Found the Mason one on Twitter, some great work people do
Absolutely, zero doubts about him. He's gonna play
Seemed like his interest died early when KU lost Ayton who was his teammate..
I think McCoy goes to Oregon as Michigan St signed 2 Bigs already.
Bowen has been another I can't believe we weren't involved with. Just went to Zona again. Either MSU or Zona for him..
Starting the game thread early to give everyone this..
Hope your right, not counting on him past next season. Will depend on what Scouts think of him as he's not what the NBA is looking for in a 5 anymore. Lots of tools though, young, athletic big beast
Good lord he looks improved this year
Seems like we'll have at least 3 to use this spring. And we've talked about how next year we could see just as many Hawks gone even if Graham/Svi returned. Next season we will be sweating out Doke/Preston/Vick/Newman decisions. Having anyone who isn't leaving by next season is important and this guy definitely represents that. Even as exciting as getting OAD talent is, you can't substitute for experience which Self thrives with..
Doesn't take much on there..
We do need bodies for next year.
I think Couisnard represents the focus that KU needs bodies next year, not the OMG we missed on every top PG so we might as well reach type. I think anytime a kid doesn't have a 4-5 star next to their name certain parts of a fan-base will freak out. If its true that he's having a great season and starting to get more looks maybe he's worth bringing in for an unofficial which could turn into an official in the spring if needed..
I don't think it stops our focus for an immediate impact guard that can play alongside Newman.
We'll see if this visit has any substance. We know he's not the type of player we need to immediately use. Until Duval announces it seems like all we will be doing is laying some eggs in case they are available post Duval decision
Good points. His advanced statistics should also paint a pretty good picture with teams. Analytics has become an increasingly big factor in judging players.
It's hard for me to say anything but positive things about Mason. He's going to be a beloved Hawk forever and we all want to see him succeed after his days here. It's an uphill battle and realistically his battle might be harder than past hawks trying to make it.
I've never understood it too be honest as well but the NBA operates differently then other professional leagues that value maturity and experience. Hield was amazing last year but has strugged in the league and was already traded. The NBA doesn't care who you are unless you are young enough and good enough to build around.
Mason seems like he has more going against him then going for him in regards to getting drafted. It's likely that being POY will inflate his status enough (without the POY he probably wouldn't be drafted) to get looked at but his size will always be a something he will have to overcome. We've seen Mason improve a lot this year to the point where maybe he's the type that can overcome being small. He seems like a driven individual with the ability to score in a lot of ways.
Nova's as much a cinch for a #1 seed as KU is at this point. UNC could definitely drop from the #1 line with 5 losses already. They play on the road against Virginia and then have the return Duke game Saturday. Not out of the realm that they go 0-2 and go into the ACC tourney with 7 losses. Can't see a 7-8 loss ACC squad staying on the top line, but then again the influence of the ACC having a #1 seed at all costs is a lot to overcome
Yes Gonzaga was the last #1. What's going to save their butt from dropping if they win the conference tourney is the three non-conference wins against Arizona, Florida & Iowa St something none of the Pac-12 schools can match. They could add a 3rd win against Saint Mary's which gives them another positive RPI win as SM is hovering around the 19-20 range. I don't see the one loss to a Top 100 RPI squad dropping them
Gonzaga is locked into the West either as a #1 or a #2 as they would play in Salt Lake City or Sacramento.
The best Pac-12 team of the three will be the #1 or #2 in that same region.
One Pac-12 team will be in the south (playing in Sacramento) and the other will be in the Midwest region (playing in Salt Lake City). This way they are all in separate brackets and playing relatively close to home.
Thank you BYU!!
Mack was suspended to start the season so I think he was already on thin ice. Not sure this one gets released to the public. Seemed to be fighting with teammates during games as well. Might not have been good for the team
Interesting so basically just a rumor coming from Shay. I was just trying to find out if he was old enough to do so..
Grimes is a talent though, better than anything we'd get in 17 besides Duval. Much improved from last season. If Self were to push him into this year its a smart move because of Duke/Zona and others trying to get into his ear.
You won't find anything officially. But people around the program started saying it last summer. Mostly rumors.
He's old for his class (just turned 22) last week. There's always the question, will he improve his stock next year at 23 or should he just leave now?
I wouldn't read too much into the draft sites right now. What's consistent is he's viewed as a 2nd rounder. He could be following in Selden's footsteps from last year where he left regardless of stock
He'd have to forfeit a year of eligibility and only have 1 year left to play instead of 2 somewhere else.
Tevin Mack to transfer. That was the worst kept secret
Where did you see the Grimes to reclassify thing? Is that from a legit source?
Positives about Couisnard..
Loves to finish with his left. Uncanny for a righty, that is something he could use to fool defenders because he's not an elite athlete by any means.
Good shooting stroke, definitely can shoot the 3.
6'4 so he's not lacking ideal size for either guard position.
Word is he's a scoring machine.. No recent footage of him though that I've found
He's perfect if he's the 13th scholarship.. KU needs bodies And if he doesn't screw up future recruiting at the position..
yikes, unofficial at least
A lot of things would have to go UCLA's way for them to get a #1 seed. It all starts and ends with Gonzaga losing another game. If they win their conference tourney they are still a #1 in the west.
The only other possible scenario where UCLA or any Pac-12 team is a #1 seed would be in the South. They would need a collapse from UNC- meaning they lose to both Virginia/Duke this week (which could happen) and for them to lose the ACC tourney. Louisville would need to lose one of its 2 remaining ACC games as well as lose the ACC tourney. Seems like too many obstacles there.
The Memphis regional isn't a factor is it in initial seeding to geographical area/earned seed line?
So a couple things after the weekend. Right now it seems one of the Top 3 Pac-12 teams is going to end up in the Midwest as a #3 seed. The Pac-12 tourney will be important in narrowing down which school but its either Zona/UCLA at this moment.
Really not understanding how Oregon is a #2 seed at this moment based on resumes. UCLA's resume is way better overall, road wins over Kentucky & Arizona have to count for something. Oregon also has a bad loss (Georgetown) that neither Zona/UCLA has. Oregon is a really good team don't get me wrong but something isn't right with the seeding right now.
If North Carolina stays on the #1 line, Lousiville is the most likely candidate to be the #2 in the Midwest.
Duke seems to be an inevitable 4-5 matchup with the regional in Greenville. If we want to avoid them again we really should start rooting for them to get back on the 3 seed line
You are correct, recently we've seen potential for our bench bigs to produce when called upon. That's a great sign for a team that needs the depth. It makes our ceiling seem higher having multiple players that can be counted on.
What I hope is that in the Big-12 tourney even Bragg/Dwight could give Lucas some rest especially if we make the finals. Dwight could use the PT, Carlton is always fighting himself to stay on the court. I would have no issue getting these guys some game action.
He played 3 minutes, got himself in early foul trouble and found the bench because Coleby was playing well. If your a bench player, you come in for Lucas who's in foul trouble and then you proceed to get 2 fouls in less time then it took Bill Walton to change shirts its not a productive day
Dwight was mighty impressive Saturday. I'm not ready to say he could fill the huge void that would be created if Lucas was injured.
Carlton proved yet again that he can't put two games together. When he does show up he can impact the game.
Again I hope the injury can be managed the rest of the way, I'd actually prefer I didn't even hear about it. I bet the entire team has some sort of various ailments that are kept under wraps, would have preferred this one had stayed there
Saying we don't get any production is misleading, he is our 5th leading scorer. He often provides some big buckets when we need them.
If he was a possible reclassification, sign us up yesterday.
Here's the other issue that you just presented, 2018 recruiting where we are really deep in with 2-3 Top 50 PG/Combo's. If you sign a PG who isn't going to start right away your clogging up the roster and your downgrading your chances with Dotson/Grimes etc.
So what is happening is KU rides the Duval train until he announces. When he goes to Duke we look at the transfer pool next for an immediate 1 year starter. If that pool doesn't give us something, then its the coaching change carousel and whoever opens back up (again not likely to include any OAD type talent).
Guys that could be available in that situation- Tremont Waters if Georgetown cans their coach, Williams son at Illinois if Groce is out.. Etc. Neither OAD and diminish the chances with 2018.
I have to wonder is the injury one that would actually heal between now and the 3rd week of March? If not then we basically have no reason to sit him.
Right there with you, I'm nervous as heck about who's our point guard for next year. Especially when I don't think Graham will be back and the Duval sweepstakes passed. Self always gets players but will he get the right one. We have a need for an immediate talent, not a development talent. That's the difference about how this spring will go, can Self find someone who can play now
Yeah his father seems to be impressed with KU for whatever that means. Trevon, well its been done to Duke for months.
Well to answer your question "is he considering KU"- I think so. I don't think he's really said too much about what schools he's really looking at yet. But KU is among the many that are drooling over him and for good reason.
KU is definitely recruiting him, we've seen assistants to his games this year.
I know Zion has taken some local unofficial visits even stopping by Wofford of all places.
I'm assuming this summer he'll break down his recruiting.
Duke has been the perceived favorite for a while
Duke board reporting Marcus Keene the leading scorer in the country is looking at Duke/Michigan next year as a grad transfer.. Obviously after the season every coach with a pulse will be throwing their hat at him as well
So what are the chances this gets worse. We've all seen this scenario play out once too many times recently. I really want to bury the devils advocate but if he's nursing an injury that could get worse boy we are really playing on egg shells once again
It's been quiet on the recruiting scoop lately.
Duval went to Arizona over the weekend, Baylor tonight.
His father seems to be high on KU after their visit from his interview. Can take that with a grain of salt..
You could be right. Was he ever on our radar? Sometimes Self just processes the local talents when they don't meet certain criteria. He loves athletic guards and Jackson is not one of those.
Going to be an emotional night, can't believe this is the last time Mason will play in Allen.. I expect Frank to have a great game, a bounce back type from his hooting woes Saturday. Lucas will rebound
