Right on cue he gives up another 3
Nice shot vick falling backwards
This team just plain sucks tonight and there is no cure
Excellent points. Without knowing what will happen I think we should be happy if Baylor wins tonight. Puts West Virginia in a tough spot already which I think is key.
I do think Baylor is the better team so I should in theory be rooting for West Virginia to hold serve at home but with WV already down 1 game I think its best to get as much separation from them as possible. If we can keep a 1-2 game advantage on them with Baylor being our biggest threat I think we have to feel good about our chances. Historically as it gets pointed out every day, Baylor likes to fall apart at some point. Whether this bunch is strong enough to end that reputation is anyone's guess.
Woodard remains out tonight with a pulled Leg Muscle. That's huge for KU and bad news for OU
I share the same fear about the wear and tear. We could already be seeing it with Devonte with his sort of "off games" and Frank who had some games that Self thought weren't his best until the Tech 26 point game.
We will see waves, hard for these kids to be energizer bunnies all the time. I don't like seeing Frank or Devonte out there when the game is already decided. We are literally riding the health of those 2 guys as far as we can go. It will be key to see how the staff handles their game minutes and practices to keep them as fresh as they can be going forward
I think Devonte will have another big game tonight. He liked Norman last year. Let's see if he can score close to 20 again..
Notice how I didn't address what I said to you personally. I was in general saying we have so much going for us, let's not forget to enjoy what we do good instead of what we think we don't do well.
And yes there is a chance this team could breeze through the conference slate if things go right. The K-St game was a wakeup call for the defense, we saw much better energy and aggressiveness against Tech. Hopefully tonight we see the same effort on the road against arguably the worst team in the league. It's a tough league but these guys know what to do. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks challenges, and I'm confident we can overcome them
Agree with the Steph comparison. His shooting is unreal at this stage. He doesn't have the ideal size or athletic ability but I think he makes up for it with his shooting and basketball IQ. Has a chance to be one of the best College Players in time. Hudy might be the most important person in his life going forward. Can see her doing wonders with him
I happen to agree with your opinions. I think this team is still trying to find its identity. At 14-1 we still have the chance to hit the next level while some teams might have already hit theirs and won't be able to sustain it by the end of the year. We are now 4 games without Doke, I bet after 10-15 games we will really start to see what we are made of. At that point we should know whether we are the team to beat in the tournament or we'll rely on some luck and favorable matchup's to get to the Final 4. I love this team though, I love the 4 guard attack and having a super duper freshman that just gets it.
We land Smith and Trae, great class if all the pieces get to campus. Just getting Trae is hitting the lottery in my opinion. I admit I'm higher on Trae then some might be, I just expect him to be a really good player at KU if he does sign here. I don't think we've seen Self invest as much time into one player as he has with this one. It helps that he's close enough to get too on off-game days but when a whole staff follows one player for over a year it means something.
I expect we will try and sign close to the max scholarships this year if we lose what is expected after this year. Can't see us going into next year with 10 players like we did this year. Some seasons it can work like 2012, this season may be another example if no other injuries pop up.
Interesting, can't say I like him more then Smith or Fitzgerald at this point. Then again Smith is the only one out there with an offer so this visit could be nothing or the start of something
Don't we want Baylor to win tonight? I'm hoping they do and here is my reasoning.
First it would give West Virginia 2 losses, 1 home/1 away already. Puts them already in need of help from KU/Baylor the rest of the way. Obviously still early but it would put their margin for error even lower.
2nd because KU has winnable games against OU & Oklahoma St this week. If Baylor loses and KU sweeps the week we'd be #1 going into Ames on Big Monday. We don't need ISU with anymore ammunition to play their Super Bowl game, we know its coming anyway. I'd rather stay #2 until this team starts putting more complete games together like the 2nd half of Texas Tech.
Having said all that I just hope we make it through tonight. Self sounds like he's expecting Oklahoma's Super Bowl game tonight. If Woodard does play, I'm at least worried it could happen
2018 kid if I remember correctly right? That is Elliott
was going to post about him, you beat me to the punch. He visited for the KU/UK game unofficially last year. Has an offer. From the same school as Andrew Wiggins. I have a feeling we have a good chance with him.
I'm fully on the same boat as you I just seem to be seeing a lot of folks worried, which is fine this isn't a perfect team by any means. I have my worries and I have a feeling that in the next few weeks it could get tough for us fans. There's also a chance we will just breeze on through this part of conference play.
More of just a reminder, remember we have it so good, we are a good team, and enjoy it!
Enjoy the season we can worry about everything after its over. Enjoy the process, the season is short
Copeland ended up at Nebraska
I believe so
Leg injury. They have not been very specific about his injury
He was shooting before their game against k state so I'm sure that puts him in line to play Tuesday at home. Can't imagine the kid missing his last chance to beat KU
Bingo, if Woodard is out they don't have much of a chance. If he plays then this game will be close because Kruger will be looking for a signature home win with a rebuilding roster. Have to guard the 3, they don't score well from anywhere else
Sounds like Sam comes from a very athletic family, his 7 sisters all play different sports seems like a competitive family. If Self can harness him into his type of player we will see a guy who will help us win many games
At 6'6 and very athletic he will have the chance to play bigger then his frame. Might give self flexibility in his lineup choices again. Maybe even runder the 4 guard offense
I think we have seen a more emotional frank this year then at any point in his 4 years. Last year we had a quiet leader in Perry, this year we have stone face frank. But the guys around frank this year are an emotional bunch especially Josh and Devonte who can help this team get where it needs to go. We won't know what emotions we will get from Frank until the games are here. I know we are already starting to shift our thoughts to the tourney and we still have 15 conference games to go. It's clear the evolution of this team isnt nearly complete which is a great thing.
Are we not considering Frank our leader? he's doing an excellent job of running the team and scoring in my opinion.
Lately this team isn't running many sets that require the PG to break down the defense in order to set up a play. I see a lot of weave action and dribble drive motion going on where our 5 guards are making a play or dumping it in the lane. I don't know if you agree but our offense hasn't looked that difficult to defend in theory it's just the guys are so good at scoring that we are getting the advantage from our players just being better then the opponent.
I like the idea that Devonte would be our leader, but why hasn't he assumed the role if it's there to take? Deferring? Maybe he feels that with Frank being the senior he's content being the co-leader. If he wanted that role full time he could have it by coming back next year.
As far as your fear of losing in March, we all have it and I'm not sure what my specific fear is at this point but it more lies in foul trouble especially Josh and our inability to get enough production in the post to balance out our 5 guard attack. I'm afraid a team will scheme to bait us into feeding the post more than we need to and lose sight of our strength.
Good discussion!
See I knew this thread would bring out the mixed emotions about Devonte Graham and his future.
The way he played yesterday was more in line with what we expect from him . With how deep the draft is he's not likely to be a 1st round pick unless this team makes it far into March and he has some standout games.
Most of this fan-base (or at least it seemed the majority) thought Diallo, Greene, & Selden weren't ready last year and yet they are not here anymore are they? No guarantee's for any of them, just a dream and they all took it. Whatever our opinion of him for the NBA means nothing really, he either stays or goes. He's going to be 22 soon in a league that de-values age.. His time is ticking now.
Regardless this thread was to give him some kudos for having a strong game yesterday. Tuesday we go to Oklahoma where he had arguably his best game of his career last year. We'll see if he can continue giving this team what it needs. When he is playing at a high level there isn't many teams that can beat this KU squad
Apparently KJ was a highly thought of recruit when he was in 8th/9th grade if what's written about him is true. Honestly I'm not much of a fan of the guy who posted about him on another site that has shared his opinion that he is not "KU" level guy. We need bodies and if we are keeping tabs on him I see no reason to say anything bad about him. If Self and our assistants like his talent and the type of person he is then they must think there's something there for the future. He might not be a Top 100 kid today but 4-5 years from now who knows what he could be. I see good quickness, good handles, the ability to finish at the rim with both hands and what looks to be a decent jumper. Would be an interesting take if the staff is even after him.
Excellent Post!!

@BeddieKU23 Exactly. I can remember the so-called experts scratching their heads and wondering why would we want Devonte.
Devonte was a 4 star prospect that went to a d-1 producing machine in Brewster Academy. I seem to remember more people in uproar over Frank who went to a military Academy and was clearly underrated. Regardless we do well finding the right guys that aren't the flashy top 100 kids.
Seen a lot of chatter that Devonte isn't ready for the NBA. Lately I agreed because it certainly seemed like he was not giving his best effort out there. I've been hard on him this year because he should be more consistent and playing like the player we all know he is.
Yesterday was a sort of coming out for him. Made shots, aggressive offense, active defense and just was the jelly to masons peanut butter. That 1-2 punch was the deciding factor yesterday.
Hopefully we see some more of the Devonte we saw yesterday
I think he was just listing his top 5 in no order because I don't remember him saying such court in order.
Besides that he was absolutely pathetic throughout the entire broadcast. I can't believe ESPN Allows him on the air. I have zero respect for him
Lately I've been impressed with his ability to limit empty possessions. When he gets the ball he has had a plan and that move and finish to his left has been impressive to see from him. Seems a more natural move for him and keeps a defender off his shot because guys can't get across his body before the shot gets off. Keep it up, we need you every game

I watched some highlights. There are some full games up on youtube, I skimmed. He isn't bad. If it doesn't impact Young, KU has the open scholarship and he is willing to RS and put in the work I don't see the harm in it. He's pretty good for a kid that was near invisible on the recruiting sites up until now. DITRs do pop up from time to time. I remember when Barry Brown committed to KSU I was thinking, there are 200+ players better than this kid in this class? No way.
That said KU hasn't even offered yet so let's wait and see.
I see no harm if the staff was interested in him. He is quick enough and can finish at the hoop in the manner of Frank Mason. We tend to do well with those under the radar guards.
thought so, i mean after the 14 minute mark of the 2nd half this team really just wore them out. Tech is a jump shooting team that couldnt keep up
really nice stretch of shooting that put this game away. defense was better
Just dumb defense by jackson.
I don't think tech has taken a shot in the paint so what are we doing
Worst refs since the Duke game
Crazy block by Jackson that was a MAN PLAY
@cragarhawk said:
Now if we let them back in this I'm gonna have to slap @kjayhawks hehe
Oh you know it's coming. And you know KU will have a run too

Frank got shoved very hard by Livingston, Landon was defending Frank. Whatever Landon said to him Livingston deserved to hear.
I thought it was a flagrant the way mason got fouled. Ended up becoming a tech anyway
Me too we got about 10 minutes before the lull came.
Tech really slowing it down which is making the margin for error small.
Bad call by the ref. Stop this petty crap
Is it possible for us to keep getting officials that sucks more and more by the game
Omg

I thought a kicked ball was a reset of the shot clock ? Am I wrong or did the rules change.
Believe it's just 15 if the clock is at a certain point
Ugly ugly
Over the back of course it's not called
How do u miss that refs
By the way Diallo committed to Kentucky. He will enroll early and likely red-shirt this year and play next year. Looking better and better for Young
