Just think it should be 30 to 3 KU taken it easy on them
Have mercy for uab Haven't made a field goal 8 minutes in
That was a nice board by doke. . Not sure he stepped out?
What a start. The type of effort that wins championships
I'm okay with Mason padding his stats to keep his name in the NPOY running
Yup more likely to see your other scenario tonight. I'll take some more individual improvements tonight.
Getting Doke 15 + minutes.
Josh not sitting because of foul trouble.
Bragg continues to be aggressive.
3 point & FT shooting improve.
Joe Dooley's response.
Florida Gulf Coast coach Joe Dooley said on last play against Michigan State: "Miles Bridges didn't touch the ball. Officials said they can only review it if the shot goes in. We threw the ball in at 1.6 and caught it at 0. The refs said they didn't start the clock. The table said they didn't start the clock. The refs said they could only review if the shot goes in. My guy (Antravious Simmons) heard the buzzer and shot it.''
But ref's can review how much time is on the clock. They can review when the shot clock isn't working correctly, or the official clock in general. There are a lot of things that don't add up with this situation.
Interesting I did not see anything else about other errors in the game.
This is one big mess for the NCAA. It's unfair FGCU did not get a fair shake at winning or losing.
Yes the play should have been rerun. The clock started before a player had touched the ball which is not the rule. The player forcing up a shot sooner should have been deemed irrelevant to the situation. He was influenced by the buzzer.
The official in-bounding the ball is responsible for the start of the clock- not the clock operator and so its an referee error. I still don't understand how this wasn't corrected. If they can monitor how much time was on the clock how can they not monitor and see the play was not run under the rules of the game?
Anyone catch the end of game situation in the Michigan St/Florida Gulf Coast game.
1.6 seconds on the clock, FGCU throws a pass length of the court and a shot is taken and missed. Seems like end of ball-game right? Not so fast as Lee Corso says!
The clock started as the ball was thrown into play, not as the guy catching the pass caught it and went up for a shot. They went to the monitor and did nothing, they let the play stand saying they couldn't do anything about it. Again, this is not correct.
Here is the statement from the Ref:
Official Bo Boroski's statement with Pool reporter Matt Charboneau (Detroit News): "A timing error occurred with 1.6 seconds remaining on the game clock. Since a timing error occurred, we are able to utilize the replay monitor. A stopwatch was used to determine if any time should remain on the game clock. Using a stopwatch, it was determined the ball was caught and released in 1.3 seconds, meaning if the shot would have gone in, it would have counted. After the miss there was no time remaining in the game, therefore ending the game. By rule the possession can not be replayed. Period."
See the problem is that the clock started early and not that the player got the shot off in time. How any of these ref's couldn't understand this is again beyond my comprehension level.
If the clock had started before the player had in-bounded the ball and the buzzer had gone off I'm sure FGCU would have had another chance. But because the clock ran while throwing the ball in they don't get another chance?
Oh lordy I feel for you Joe.
UVA gave up 38 to Yale today.. Just 38. Still a stingy defense that will keep them in games.
Yale had scored 98 @ Washington last week which isn't saying much. Romar routinely gives up 90 to YMCA's. Yale is also missing its tournament darling for the year.
Not a big team so this is a game to use Doke as only Lee is an outside threat from their posts. I expect Bragg & Jackson to have big big games in this one.
Veteran UAB squad. Lee, another big is a top 100 player that has been just okay during his career. Cokley is probably the only guy that has "your playing KU might as well have a career day" talent.
I hope we get a good enough lead to rest the guards.
UAB with Haase was a good team. Without him they lost to Furman. Still have a veteran lineup. Should be a game we win by 20
1 win, 1
But there not machines either.
Shooting will improve but Mason/Graham are tired, they have played almost an entire half more then the next closest guy (vick)
I'm banking he goes to the pro's, who turns down that opportunity? He will at least test the waters and get info, Maker going #10 or whatever it was just paves the way. NO risk in trying, all the reward
Good point about the rep Bennett has had. A lot of it has been with experienced rosters which is the opposite of what he has. He does have a Sr leader though which is like having another coach on the court. It lowers the ceiling for them but they are still a tournament worthy team if this loss doesn't upset status quo
I don't get it either why we haven't landed more "elite" guards. Reputation maybe for how we use our bigs. Its like how Washington gets NBA level guards but can't win games. How you play the game sticks with these kids. Self has finally opened up his structure the last 2 years so maybe the future gives these kids a different perspective
Briscoe almost left last year and the way he's improved he's likely gone. SAG looks more like a development type then a OAD type they usually start. Cal is still selling starters minutes next year at PG/SG. If Diallo doesn't go pro, since he's eligible that would be big in crunching the minutes for another PG like Young
I see your point but its not how Self does things. He expects you to understand scouting report and do your job.
We are seeing the highs and lows of Doke. Their is no question he will have games that he looks very good and others where he's still learning. The Seina game was one where he made mistakes and got benched
Yeah it goes against what Self believes in but it's the best thing for this team right now.
Couldn't have said it better.
BINGO!!! He can run the team at OU as well.
Trae's game might be better being the "other" ball-handling guard like Devonte. His shooting range is off the charts and I think you have to maximize that part of his game. I was impressed watching him this summer on MOKAN how he ran his team, very good handles and vision with a stacked roster.
Very young team. Their 2 best pro prospects haven't even played yet for them. Going to be a committee approach now
Vick & Josh are so long and athletic that they can play guys taller which gives this team lots of interchangeable options on defense. Nova has thrived with guys like those that can guard above their pay grade
I think what got Doke benched was the 3 their 5 made on him where Doke was totally lost. Reminded me of Cliff his freshman year. Doke is a good play against Centers without range. He is just so raw around the edges right now
Agree he does well when he does what is expected of him. I just don't believe we can reach the level we want with him consistently playing the way he does. 4 guards with Bragg or if Doke can become reliable are honestly our best lineups
He must have done something good to get kicked off but Bennett isn't the type to take anyone distracting the team.

I'll feel better about Preston next November when he plays in a meaningful game for KU.
Exactly! until then I caution everyone before they get excited. He is a great talent and he needs a coach like Self to help him for his 8 month stay.
this makes the 2nd place he has burned after abruptly leaving Memphis. I remember he had to hire a lawyer to get released from them.
seems like old news that some were freaking out about Svi after this summer he spent abroad. He is much improved in all parts of his game. Keep on playing well Svi, we need you
Something about this entire situation just screams to me that Young will still be considering UK as his favorite until others come off the board. UK is going to lose its only guards, they will need Young still. Green is more a true point, Young is more Steph Curry. Both are high scoring kids that can run the team but could easily co-exist.
I know it sounds like popular belief that this would eliminate UK but there is zero information stating so just speculation. Does it help KU & OU, certainly but this is UK we are talking and with the way their roster is setup they are going to need all the guards they can get.
I called that this game would be a letdown. There was some good things and plenty of ammo for Self to work with. With the schedule the way it is this there was no way we were going to play our best game in the home opener. Seina is a quality team that should win its conference.
I was very encouraged with Bragg's play. Very aggressive rebounding the ball, He's our most reliable scorer (and only) hope in the paint. We should continue to get him the ball where he can do damage. Scouts will be impressed on how he played.
I thought Vick played really well, also had key rebounds and picked his spots well. If he can add a reliable outside shot over the year he's going to be drafted next year. I'm really amazed on how effortless he jumps in the air. Doesn't seem like he's trying, has crazy athleticism.
I thought Josh played well, but the dumb fouls have to stop. The 2 offensive fouls were bad calls, the 1st the guy flopped and ran into him (not an offensive foul at any level). We are starting to see his game changing talent though. He plays defense, he anticipates passes as well as Devonte. He has some moves nobody else has. If he can stay on the court he's the key to the entire season.
Honestly I'm done defending Landen Lucas. Why we think its good offense throwing him the ball down low is beyond my comprehension level. Just don't do it. He did have some nice timely blocks and rebounded okay but offensively- he's offensive to watch. Coach called him out, I am too. STEP UP. That is all.
3 point shooting and FT shooting are major weaknesses right now. Tired legs, hopefully that will start to even out as the guys get more rest and get better. It can't get any worse can it?
i don't think there is a player in America that can stop Jackson, only himself
yes hes got to stop fouling though. he gets to play 30+ minutes and he's going to really punish teams
that was one of the things self said pre-season. maybe top to bottom most athletic team, can switch all 5 positions with certain lineups
207-9, just unbelievable. so good its taken for granted
playin down to comp and tired legs after all the travel
reminds me of the harvard game from last yr
well that few minute outburst burst their bubble
me too
poor can't even get a regular call right
so someone explain how Bragg wasn't shooting FT's after they called a foul?
your right
well if josh didn't foul so much we may have flexibility in subs but
frank is dead tired and we can't take him out
how dumb can you possibly be
So why is Svi not playing?
maybe want to guard Wright. Nope not even attempting
or free throws
lucas was a man on that play,
which is probably okay for Coach as it gives him plenty to yell about:smile:
