Gone up +1 today.. Essential a pickup given Vegas knows our immense home court advantage.
From his presser I got the sense they didn't know how severe it was or a timeline. Vernon is reporting today it's a hyperextended knee, but timeline would depend on if there was a fracture or something. I wouldn't put Vernon in the trustworthy category, but he certainly has his sources for getting information it seems. Guess we'll wait to hear what Self says today/after the game when asked if he reports an update.

@BeddieKU23 gradey not exactly hustling either. Didn't he mention his leg could be broke?
Gradey is hurt?
Yeah the injury. Been a weird one given Self keeps saying he isn't able to play right before games or even at halftime of games.
That play doesn't paint a picture he's giving his all out there when given the chance, injured or not.
I was really hoping this situation would work out.
Benefit of playing tough teams. We should have dropped more but if we win tonight by chance just adds to the enigma that is KU
The play where Zach gets hurt. Watch MJ. yikes

Mike Vernon "passing along" info that Zach hyperextended his knee.
Watching the play where Zach got hurt is not a good look for MJ Rice at all. That kind of lack of effort will really grind Billy Eugene's gears
If we had lost competitively in Ames I would feel a bit better about this but what we saw Saturday wasn't that.
Hope they had amnesia on the plane ride home
Texas is the better team but hopefully we'll have the better night
What are we feeling after the beatdown in Ames?
Huge game for us at home on Big Monday.
Down to 8 guys, 9 if you include whatever MJ is feeling at the time of the game.
Texas is just like TCU, bigger, faster, more athletic than us as a whole.
Really need the crowd to help them tonight. Hope for the best..
We ran some creative sets earlier in the year. Where are the guard post ups?
The chemistry this team had earlier this season was pretty scary when it clicked. Seems like something has changed.
We'd be less worried if we had more than 1 guy who can shoot these days. Very limited team offensively.

You will lose just about every game you shoot 38% on the road.
The 12 o clock start time was bullshit today but that didn't matter. At the end of the day this team has 1 guy that gets it

Ref show. Omg
Shooting is horrendous as always
He's still mocking in the lottery. We have had some shocking returns over the years and this would be right up there. I see the angles for why he may look at another year but if your in the lottery, Self is going to be advocating for you to go.

@BeddieKU23 I really hadn't paid attention to them. I just see the Kenpom stuff and can't help but see that Marquette team stick out...
I'll have to make a point to watch a Marquette game before March.
Yeah same I need to catch some of their games. #1 offense with that roster is something. At least in recent games it's not if they are scoring 90 every night but shooting 50% as a team is really good. If KU was shooting close to 50% as a team they have 1-2 losses tops. I wonder if they can sustain it.
I'm perfectly fine with how Self is attacking recruiting and roster management these days, avoiding the sure-fire 1-year HS guys and targeting those guys likely to stick around a few years. We know what works here and what doesn't. I mean he's had success with 1-year dudes too but it's just not his bread and butter.
Self might be a hard coach to play for but I've yet to really hear of a player that didn't benefit from his coaching. In fact, the opposite tends to happen.
We used to worry so much about Duke or UK's recruiting classes and now it's like why bother, those teams aren't winning anything with freshman. The transfer portal completely leveled the playing field and made experienced players more valuable. Guys from lower levels are not at a disadvantage anymore it seems when leveling up. Things have changed so fast
Yeah its crazy. Does he have some offensive guru on staff with him at Marquette? They had a good offense last year and then lost their two best players & somehow, they are better this year.
Perhaps he's just evolved and figured he needed to change to survive. Also, he has one of the best point guards in the country Tyler Kolek that has improved leaps and bounds as a facilitator and playmaker. Things are clicking for them.
At work too, good thing nobody is around. Just a tremendous story. I'm buying his Jersey
Unbelievable article.
Oh man, these get me, every single time...
Updated post lil brother beatdown
Points-
Jalen is now 37th all-time in scoring after passing 4 guys. He needs 20 points against Iowa St to pass Steve Woodberry.

Interesting I haven't paid attention to his interviews at all. Guess he hasn't gotten to Bruce level yet which is a plus.
As far as coaching he seems like he knows what he's doing. I expected them to be bottom 5 in all of power 5 but this collection of rug rats has 2 stars that are better then most they play so that carries them. I'm very interested to see how he coaches when he doesn't have that to lean on. Just about every coach that pops up with that 1 great year regresses the following.
He might have a new gig next year so we won't know for sure for a while if he's just lucky or one to take notice of
Just assume he followed the leader there on recruiting. We all know Scotty is a
Very physical game with inconsistent enforcement of rules but that's nothing new in the Big-12. You either get crews that let them play a bit or like this crew that calls it like a tightwad. This crew especially, Higgins, is known for being special when calling KU games.

Top 5 prospect Dylan Harper is down to a final 5 and has KU on that list. Hasn't visited KU, he has been to Duke and Indiana already. Said he will take his 3 remaining visits after the season. Son of Ron Harper Sr and younger brother of Ron Harper Jr who was a star at Rutgers. He is in contention for the #1 spot.
Probably all in on Duke
That's been the word on his recruitment since he took a visit there. Not worried about this one.
I'll criticize the officiating regardless of the result.
I don't think KU played to their ceiling, but K-St didn't play to theirs from what I've seen. The crowd and our defense seemed to do their part in influencing that. Both teams missed a lot of shots they normally will make. I haven't read what K-St is saying but if they have gripes with the ref's, they should, but they won't realize a lot of KU fans had the same thoughts about how the game was officiated. It was horrendous.
@BShark said in EMPEROR OF BASKETBALL:
Jerome Tang 2 KU :folded_hands:
Let's check back in 5 years on this guy. Impressive to make K-St relevant for a year with the roster overhaul he's had but the next thing will be seeing how he recruits, how he develops guys that didn't already spend most of their career developing somewhere else. Johnson & Nowell were already finished products when he got here & represent the 1% of College Players at their positions. Very interested to see how effective his offense is when he doesn't have 2 All Conference guys.
Where can we get those glorified scrimmage games in the Big-12??
I was trying to think about at what point Fran would have lost his crap over the officiating last night, obviously it would have been after a K-St foul because only KU gets "all the calls". Perhaps the Tang Tech would have done it.
We all know he would have coached that K-St team better last night.
I would wait and see what happens after the season first but at some point the light bulb has to come on right? Sometimes it doesn't until a player finds the right fit which has been a big discussion with Zach here, can his skills fit what Self wants from his 5 man?
I will add that Zach had a clear path to starting this year and not only did he not earn the spot, Self-converted a wing/4-man (Adams) to play the position late into the pre-season & 2 freshman beat him out for rotation minutes. Players usually realize where they are and start thinking maybe they need to find a fresh start (I'm not saying he should).
If we are looking at some positives for Zach recently, he's scored in 6 straight games after not scoring at all in the first half of the season. He is averaging 7.5 mpg, 3.8 pts (60% from 3), 1.6 boards, 0.5 blocks in this small but 6 game sample. He has played the two best games this year at home (something to monitor for Saturday).
I've been in Zach's corner since his high school days and I remain hopeful there's something there to keep working with. At times he gives you those exciting flashes and I've always wondered what's holding him back from showing that more.
It was great, better than the alternative
