New era boys. We trade 3 for 2 all game and win.
I'd be more worried if their guards were long like Oregon last year. I think our 4 guard lineup has them running around and confused in their zone. Self teams has historically killed zones. With our shooters I think it happens again.
If you are going to foul then freaking foul hard
DG shoots well in this half and we win by 20
Clemson is over playing guards side to side. We need back picks.
Also Clemson is not going after o boards to get back. We need to use secondary break like with the 3 by newman
I love that coach Self has allowed his offense to evolve. Missing on some recruits may have forced his hand but the offense will be even more dangerous with a deep team at all positions, like next year.
At least they finally get it. "Bill Self might be approaching his most impressive postseason feat."
Self almost always over achieves.

If Duke is the opponent I like that KU will likely be viewed as the underdog. We can use that chip on our shoulder the same way Villanova and Oregon have used against us the past two seasons. I like that possibility.
I actually think in a media perception we are in a no win with Duke because media loves K. If we beat Duke we are the 1 seed so "we should have". If we lose, it will all be about how Self loses in the Elite 8 too much.
Not only "This Team" but This Coach. I truly believe he does more with less than most realize. Even if we would happen to face Duke in Elite 8 and lose to the STACKED full of McDonald's All Americans team I think the national opinion of Self will be underachiever. I think its ridiculous but I do think this year could be the year he gets MAJOR national recognition with a Final Four or more.

Newman made every FT down the stretch, he was clutch.
I loved how Malik wanted the ball in his hands in the last seconds. Not scared to shoot those FTs.
So Duke now gets as many or more McDonalds All Americans than UK. Coach K cant get great athletes to play man to man defense? I truly beleive his best coaching days are over. Dude just recruits and rolls the ball out.
I'm not holding my breath but at some point in this tournament we need Vick to have a great game.
Dumb pass by DG
Marcus will be so good next year. Confidence will skyrocket
Time for Vick to set the F up
Play D and get out on break.
I love when Kansas plays early in the tournament. After we win we can enjoy the next day and a half in peace!
Self does NOT want to play Doke.
DG this half has already out done his last full NCAA tourney game.
They tried to foul early. NOPE
One of Roy's last years we struggled with a 16 seed
1st half of first game is always the toughest
DG started a little shaky now playing like he has lately
Nice play Svi
Why would anyone who has watched this team all year be worried about a 10 pt deficit?
playing faster now
dump into doke non stop and gwt them fouling and helping. Will open up 3s
dump into doke non stop and gwt them fouling and helping. Will open up 3s
WTF Svi
We've been down more to way better teams this year. I'm not worried yet

@Hawk8086 If Malik plays the way he did during the Big 12 tournament, i would take our 4 guards over any team int he tournament!
Can we please have Big 12 tourney Malik and early season Vick.

I think of Indiana and UCLA as being like the Queen Mother in her last years--fading royalty deserving of respect.
And don't be shocked when Archie Miller gets Indiana going again. He was left with Crean's defensively soft players. Once he gets his type of players they will seriously compete. At Dayton his teams played good defense and always played hard.
Teams: Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, UCLA
Since 1965 (last 52 tournaments) there have only been four Final Fours that did not include one of those six teams; 2013, 1985, 1983, 1979.
Blue Blood has always meant all time programs.
Newman is a 6'3 streaky shooting guard with zero play making abilities and not much of a finisher in traffic. He's also slight of build and not very fast. He has improved a good deal this year and has become a much better COLLEGE basketball player from the UK game. And that is all I really care about! More Big 12 tourney Malik please!

Remember Mario Chalmers?
Mario Chalmers was an ELITE defender when he left KU. He has extremely long arms for his size. There is also much more to playing point guard then "bringing up the ball."

@BeddieKU23 He has shown he is a PG. Could have a decent career as a back-up.
How exactly has he done that? Devonte has to stay on the floor 40 minutes a game because Self has basically ZERO confidence in Malik running the team as a point guard.
Malik Newman is not an NBA player. That doesn't mean he stays though. Nothing some of these kids do surprises me anymore.

You really should brush up on Duke’s history if you think they were good only with Coach K, I know you will be surprised.
ZERO titles period without K.
If they are Blue Blood they are last.
justanotherfan said:
Duke can't really be called a blue blood because they didn't have much tradition pre-Coach K, so if UCLA is out, Duke isn't a blue blood until they do it without Coach K.
AMEN!!!!
I've said this FOREVER. UNC, Kansas, UK, UCLA, Indiana ALL have won championships with multiple coaches. Duke made two title games before Coach K but that is it.

It is ridiculous that an adult is limited from making a living in any profession solely because of collective bargaining, where the participants conspire selfishly to exclude that individual.
You realize when the "sign with an agent", the agent generally puts out a line of credit for travel, training, etc. Who pays this bill when the kid goes back to school? Also if they take credit(money) what happens to their amateur status?
Cant wait for the sob stories in 20 years. People think an NBA minor league will mean big money for "these poor kids being treated like slaves". It wont and more guys will make bad decisions and make 20k a year for 3 years and have nothing and no skills after that. You will hear about a ton of guys who were "cant miss" taking student loans in their 30s. Go look at the stories of how little the minor league baseball guys are paid.
This half season is going to be a HUGE blessing for SIlvio next year.
Neither will make a roster next year.
Svi is really slow footed and has weak handles.
Devonte has historically struggled against length.
Both are Very good College players but lack certain qualities for NBA.

The big difference between KU and Iowa State is potential NBA talent. From last year's ISU squad, you had Monte Morris. That was it from an NBA talent standpoint. So even though the numbers suggest similarities, KU has Doke, Graham, Svi and, depending on the day, Vick and Newman. That means when KU needs to close out games, they can lean on some big time players that ISU just didn't have last year.
I hate to break it to you but there isn't an NBA player on our roster. Maybe Silvio develops and with his body has a chance.
I've coached my kids up until 8th grade and no matter the grade or gender there are some kids who just try harder once they make a basket. They self worth as a basketball player lives and dies on their offensive output. Self usually does a good job breaking these types and other times guys just do not change(see Brannen Greene). I'm seeing a bit of this in Vick.
He's a junior and he is the type of player Self rides HARD. He has all the athletic tools and lacks on the one that doesn't take talent, effort.

@justanotherfan I just have a hard time seeing the NBA giving up a free developmental league.
FREE? They have limited expose to the college guys so the bust factor is higher, which costs a ton. When you have all access(all practices, scrimmages, games) to prospects the bust factor lowers significantly. A dev league is WAY better for the NBA.
The one place it does hurt the NBA is marketability. When a kid is well known in college it helps NBA fans familiarity with the player.

No, I don't feel sorry for Sean Miller. Anyone so foolish to discuss 100,000 dollars for a recruit deserves all the repercussions from it. It does make me wonder as a B1G fan if his brother would/has done the same thing at Indiana. If I feel sorry for anyone it's the Zona player and fan who were in the dark about this and now their season is down the tubes and they're left to wonder what they did to deserve this.
I don't think Archie is in the same situation yet. Sean was under a huge amount of pressure to deliver at least a final four. He was underachieving.
