Get doke out!
Put fucking lightfoot in now
Doke is literally self holding on to the past
We are down 20
Doke can’t play in this game period
Put in lightfoot
Only way we have a chance is to speed up the tempo. Doke is too slow. Id go with lightfoot. He can close out faster and affect shots at the rim.
For all the talk of self changing he went with super obvious throw it to doke.
I’d go with lightfoot and play fast
Don’t get why we don’t pick and pop with the guards
Pass across the lane...play some fn d
Doke is a bad match in thisngame
Can’t rely on the zone though
We have to play face guard d
Doke cant
Put lightfoot in
Need to match the speed
We play better when we play fast.
After this weekend, if one of these two men win the title, that man will be labeled the best coach in college basketball. If its Jay Wright it's because he is perceived to have ushered in "small ball" to college basketball and won 2 championships in 3 years. If its coach Self then a second championship validates his insane regular season record over the last 15 years at Kansas.
The are both in their mid 50s and will probably reign another 10 years. Izzo has had his media darling image tainted with all the MSU issues and he hasn't succeeded lately in the tournament. K and Roy are both in their twilight years.
All of this is just media fodder, but it can define the perception to casual college basketball fans. However I would suspect that just like us, Villanova, Kentucky, Duke, UNC, and Michigan St, wouldn't trade their coach for any of the others regardless of perception.
This could happen more and more. The only thing that can really screw colleges is that these kids' commitments can mess with recruiting. You think you have a position wrapped up and then you dont.
The weave is about getting the other team to switch to then get a mismatch. That mismatch with our four guards leads to somebody driving to finish or draw and dish for an uncontested 3. The problem with nova is they can switch everything and not be presented with a mismatch.
Think about what offense is and always will be the most predominate in the NBA, the pick and roll. When athletes are equal in ability you then must force the defense to make quick decisions and the pick and roll does this. Of course the more modern version of this really makes it difficult, the pick and pop.
I bet anything our guards do more pick and pop this game. If they hedge you drive if they are slow then the 3 ball for the picker is wide open. Once Nova decides which where they play then we can pick the picker with Silvio or Doke.
Anyone think Bridges may cover Devonte? Remember Devonte has shown he struggles with length guarding him. Think Oregon game last year.
K has always had very good/borderline great recruiting classes. He somehow built a reputation of having smart scholastic kids who are scrappy on the court. He more times than not had more talent than anyone out there.
- Between 1980-1989: 12 McDonalds All Americans
- Between 1990-1999: 17 McDonalds All Americans
- Between 2000-2009: 20 McDonalds All Americans
- Since 2010: 25 McDonalds All Americans
If kids could have left after one year they would have, even at Duke.
In contrast Kansas has had 46 McDonalds All Americans ever compared to coach K's 74.

Yep the ol' K flop. He teaches his players well.
Speaking of, did you see Bagley go flying down when Garrett was fighting for position with him? The ref saw it all and knew it was a flop.
I'm 6'5 and played plenty of basketball with some really big guys. There is NOTHING like standing next to a TRUE 7 footer. It's just crazy. A junior high teammate of mine was 6'4 in 8th grade and eventually made 7'. I played with him in leagues when we were older and I got a little used to it.
Carter was not all that effective the ENTIRE game. He air balled from 2 FREAKING FEET a couple possessions earlier. The idea that if he doesn't foul out and Duke wins is laughable.

Was it Silvio that airmailed a ball out of bounds and coach Self gives a quick smirk. Yeah I think Self is relaxed and confident as ever.
When that happened my family all let out a collective ugh. I know there was less than 2 minutes in regulation at that point but I quickly told my family "he was playing high school in December". Noway anyone can get mad at a kid who has basically saved our asses to a certain extent.
Tech played fine on the D end, they just couldnt make any shots.
I'm calling it now, Lightfoot will help on defense this game.

Well I found out my answer about trying to get the guys parents here to watch them in the final four.
It seems that the NCAA helps pay for the parents to be able to travel to the Semi Finals and finals. The NCAA came up with a pilot program in 2015 and what it does is that the NCAA pays for families to travel to the NCAA final four. they will pay 3.000 for Travel - - -hotel & meal expenses and up to 4,000 for the championship. - -Coach Self said he didn't realize how expensive it was saying to fly to San Antonio said is the most expensive - saying you can't hardly find a round trip ticket for less then 1,000-1200 flying round trip from Kansas City to San Antonio - so he says you can imagine flying from Lagos Nigeria- - -Ukraine- - or from Angola -- I hope it works out for Doke mom. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
They jack prices up for big time events.
Duke's entire starting five are possible NBA first round picks. We sent them home! Who cares about predictions.

They actually have better words for KU in the Villanova section.
“Prediction: These two teams really mirror each other. Udoka Azubuike is a nightmare to chase around and he’s the kind of guy who can cause Villanova problems. Kansas has great shooting and won’t back down, and Bill Self is a great coach. But I’m taking Villanova. If it’s not enough, they have a Hall of Fame coach in Jay Wright and a storied program. Everyone in their organization is bought in and invested.”
And this is why a Yahoo keeps losing money and is close to being a memory, a bad one for investors.
LOL at Hall of Fame Jay Wright. If a coach in his prime has a season where they win only 13 games bracketed by 2 seasons of first round losses. Some of these Hall of Fames have been watered down.
@BShark
Agree. It was a tad early to mention him when I was saying no NBA guys. Preston definitely will be on a roster at some point.
My two biggest basketball friends are Duke and Indiana fans. If we get Langford then I have bragging rights for a while!

Found this interesting .. no KU NBA prospects to watch at the final four.
I've said all year that this team doesnt have an NBA player on it. I still stand by it. That isn't what makes a great college TEAM. I dont care.
If anybody thinks Marcus Garrett doesn't start on a Bill Self team for the rest of his career then you haven't been paying attention to what gains Coach's trust. Marcus' shooting will come around and add to his phenomenal intangibles.
@dylans
agree

Must’ve been printed before last nights game as it says Svi can’t make a shot off the dribble, but I seem to remember a game tying 3 off the dribble.
Big difference between a rhythm dribble and shooting off of a dribble move.
If Nova keys on Malik then Devonte goes off.
I really think Lightfoot will have an impact on this game. His speed and recovery on D vs smaller guys is better than Silvio.
Nick Bradford: I was lucky enough to witness the speech/chewing out of Self to his players at the 120 yr KU Basketball Reunion Banquet. Guys have played at different level ever since, it was amazing to hear then & now see their response over the last month & half
That may go down in championship lore. I think this team really embarrassed Coach in that loss to OSU. He probably reiterated that it is about more than just this team, that its about the program. PRIDE!
If you didn't doubt this team you were not watching all season. There were some bad spots. Everyone here doubted them at some point.

Newman, not Graham has become the leader of this team. on a
Totally disagree with this. I have been hard on Devonte this year on this board. I called him out for not being a leader and chucking up dumb shots and making horrible decisions at times.
He has actually learned that there is more to being a leader than leading the team in scoring. Yesterday he settled the guys down, didn't force stuff against the zone too much, and made great decisions, including finding the hot hand Newman.
He's become a better leader than I thought he could and it's been great to see.
HighEliteMajor said:
This game was won on the defensive end. And defense like this just doesn't happen. Two months ago, who would have believed that this team, in this moment, would win with defense?
The fact that Malik Newman who couldn't stay in front of anyone in the beginning of the season maned up on Allen on the last shot and was in his face the whole time was EPIC!
It really symbolized this team and how they bought in.
ROCK FN CHALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bet Graham, Svi, and Newman go to the bucket more this half. Go through middle and reverse the ball for open shots.
Put Graham in the middle and run Svi baseline!
K is just a recruiter at this point.
Jay is doing a lot with not a ton of NBA talent and he really embraces the modern game.
Everyone is talking about Duke's zone defense. Remember Self has brought out a zone at times too. Dont surprised if we go zone and make this a shooting contest. Guess who wins that?!!!!
About to crack a beer. Need to settle the nerves.
Crimsonorblue22 said:
We may need Mitch more against the quicker duke bigs, who knows.
I agree and I can see a big hustle game out of him.
The way Newman is playing and shooting I'd be tempted to put Devonte in the middle of the zone. He is usually our best decision maker and lob thrower. Plus he shoots a great mid range ball.
Surround him with Newman, Vick, Svi.
When Garret is in put him in the middle.

I’m worried about all the self-can't-get-past-elite-8 posts coming if we do lose. Should be a tough tough game. And yep if we hit our shots, we should be 👌
But So far, This has been a great season, let’s face it! Win or lose, been a great ride for me at least.
This is what REALLY REALLY pisses me off. In coach Ks 34 years has he once developed a 3 star player? Has he ever not had the most talent? He has NEVER had a season where he didn't land a McDonald's All American. He is now the biggest one and done guy. In the past 16 seasons Duke has been either a 1 or 2 seed 12 times yet only made it past the sweet sixteen FOUR times. Despite all this talent EVERY year he never gets called out for "choking".
Bill Self has just developed back to back 3/4 star high school guys into first team all Americans. He ROUTINELY does more with less. The fact that he completely maximizes the talent almost always means a tournament "upset" will happen because Kansas earns seed beyond their talent. VIrginia did the same thing this year. Yes the accomplished things to be a 1 seed but at the end of the day their talent(not a single nba guy) isnt really 1 seed quality.
I know most here hate Kentucky the most. I don't have enough hate left for anyone after Duke.
