Self Fullfilling Prophecy • Mar 15, 2015 05:52 PM

Three point Facts: By the numbers. I have broken down three point shooting into different 'seasons' to go along with the 'fools gold' remarks.

@HighEliteMajor @KUinLA Please put this in a line chart and insert the "fool's gold" comments and see if we can draw correlation between the data reference points and the "fools gold comments".

PRE UTAH 49/135 36.29%

POST UTAH 150/401 37.40%

NON-CON 83/217 38.24%

BIG 12 SEASON 108/287 37.63%

BIG 12 TOURNEY 8/32 25.00%

PRE TECH ONLY 99/256 38.67%

POST TECH ONLY 92/248 37.09%

POST TECH & B12 TOURNEY ONLY 100/280 35.71%

WITH LEGS 136/353 38.5%

NO LEGS 63/183 34.42%

*The no legs period began January 31, when it became apparent to me that the team was gassed.

TOTAL THREES

2014-2015 199/536 37.12%

2013-2014 198/528 37.50%

2012-2013 216/594 36.36%

2011-2012 222/643 34.50%

2010-2011 271/710 38.20%

2009-2010 262/648 40.40%

2008-2009 217/585 37.10%

2008-2009 271/683 39.70%

Quick inference: the fewer interior post scorers, the lower the 3pt%

CLONES CLONE BAD BALL • Mar 15, 2015 05:48 PM

I always think it is funny when people assume that my mind is closed because my opinion is different than theirs. Isn't that ironic?

I'll reply to your response over on your new thread.

CLONES CLONE BAD BALL • Mar 15, 2015 12:41 PM

@KUinLA you are right. It is good that @HighEliteMajor brings a different sentiment to the board and offers alternative opinions. You guys can never be accused of wearing crimson & blue glasses as you continue to cleverly reference. But all year long HEM was clamoring for Cliff to get more playing time, and now look....He cannot even play. All year long he has been clamoring for more three point shots, even though Self called it fools gold. The stat before last nights game was KU had netted 11 of 72 3 pt shots. After there anomaly last night, shooting 41%, they are now 16/84 from three over their last 7 games. That is 18%. Come up with any explanation in the world that you want, I'm sure you have some good ones. Self doesn't scheme for the three, blah blah blah. Excuses are monuments of nothingness. The numbers don't lie.

CLONES CLONE BAD BALL • Mar 15, 2015 12:31 PM

We can also tell that Freddy Hoiberg has demonstrated to Self that he doesn't belong in the NBA. Selfs coaching will not translate. At least we can thank Freddy for that.

@HighEliteMajor are you still suggesting this team is a competent three point shooting team and that is the identity we should be aligned with?

Someone talk me off the cliff! • Mar 13, 2015 12:52 AM

Brannen Greene has not made a 3 pt shot since coming out the TCU@KU game shaking his hand like he jammed fingers. Just an observation.

Top Selling Collegiate Licensed Products • Mar 11, 2015 04:53 PM

I am curious if the royals run to the series decreased revenue on local sports teams apparel.

Cliff • Mar 08, 2015 01:36 PM

@Kip_McSmithers I thought Self was doing the best he could not to tongue lash Cliffs family in that interview, too, yet he could barely contain it. It appears there is some wrongdoing and Cliff knows it.

Cliff • Mar 08, 2015 03:29 AM

@JayhawkRock78 forgiveness is divine.

Greene Suspended for Today's game • Mar 08, 2015 03:11 AM

Yes, @drgnslayr And there a lot of easy ways to pass them. They amp up the testing around tourney time.

@REHawk as any old ball coach knows, there is a fine line between pain and injury. Coach Self, being a Man of Toughness surely toes that line very closely.

Edit: Judging by Devonte's poor shooting of late, I am of the opinion his foot is bothering him.

T.J. Keitzman/Kevin Carpenter • Mar 08, 2015 03:00 AM

@JayhawkRock78 I plan to look at Kansas Road games and see how many times players have fouled out on the road in the last five years. I don't know a fast way to gather this information, though.

Cliff • Mar 08, 2015 02:57 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I know Nothing about this loan company. But agreements and contracts are usually going to be unique to the parties involved. Cliff may have an agreement with Kansas, but the Loan Company has no agreement with Kansas. It is up to Cliff to abide by the agreement he took, not the Loan company. Loans are given on potential frequently.

I remember in 2002 Gooden showed up on Campus with a navigator all of the sudden. And there was a Joke on campus when we saw him buying the brand name fudge pops from the grocery store that we knew he was a goner. Shady things happen. It's up to our own moral compass to do the right thing in life. But as I've said before, I see large sums of money change people (Or reveal them) all too frequently. Greed is a monster.

T.J. Keitzman/Kevin Carpenter • Mar 08, 2015 02:49 AM

Traveling back in from a lengthy trip to the frigid Northeast late yesterday, I tuned in to sports radio as they left me with the cliffhanger that the Kansas Jayhawks have only had one player foul out at AFH in Five Years. This was compared to almost every other school in the Big 12, as well as other Blue Bloods, including the Blue Devils of Duke.

I listened as Keitzman brought this up chuckling because he couldn't help himself. He pointed out that listeners should tune in to T.J.'s evening show and check out this unbelievable story. @jesse newell was in the conversation as well.

I turned off Keitzman, and resumed my Jamming with Charlie Parker until T.J.s evening show started. He started the show by saying that didn't care "one way or another about Kansas" and then proceeded to present his biased presentation based on one-sided data. The nuts and bolts of his monologue and point was that he wanted Kansas to admit that they have home court advantage like no other team in America, and that it was simply unfair. He leaned on the statistic that Kansas has had ONE player in FIVE years foul out at home. The next closest was Duke with 12 players in the same five year period. Caller after caller brought up good points, but T.J. refused to anecdotally address them. His response to each caller was "You keep moving the goal posts." He simply wanted Kansas fans to admit that we have the best home court advantage in America.

I wonder why T.J. so surprised that Kansas has such an advantage? Is he truly unaware of the Legend of the Phog and the living legend and Myth that is Kansas Basketball? Does he not know we have the most rabid fan base in all of College Basketball to go along with the finest Venue in all of Sports? The games inventor came here, basketball as we know spawned in Lawrence, Kansas.

T.J. & Keitzman, of course we get all of the calls. Are you happy now?

It's funny how we categorize professionals, especially Attorneys & Agents. Here's a fact: I work with incredible attorneys on a regular basis. I work with shady attorneys on a regular basis. It's the people, not the profession.

I've observed the last few days as agents are referred to as sleeze balls. Sure some of them are. And I personally know a lot of them are good ones, too. It's the people, not the profession.

There are incredibly talented scientists and researchers. Some of them do legitimate, bonafide research. Some of them cook their data to gain the support they need. It's the people, not the profession.

Some basketball coaches cheat, and some don't.

Some referees cheat, and some don't.

You will always have the Mark McGuires, Sammy Sosa's, Lance Armstrongs, Jose Conseco's, Sleezeball Attorneys and Sleezeball agents. It's the people, not the profession.

For those who cannot obtain their competitive advantage through ability, work ethic, commitment to continuous improvement, and luck (luck=preparation meeting opportunity) their competitive advantage is relegated to underhanded dealings.

Its the people, not the profession. When you classify an entire group of people because of their profession, you sound uninformed.

@Crimsonorblue22 Turgeon has too many years on Danny of in-game coaching. Danny is superior at specializing in big men, but I don't see him becoming as well-rounded of a coach that Turgeon has become in almost 30 years of coaching and recruiting.

As much as I respect Danny, the clear choice is Turgeon, if the hire were to happen this offseason.

Unreal - The Power of Self. • Mar 04, 2015 10:47 PM

Of course @HighEliteMajor loves Self. But someone has to be the antithesis to the Bill Self is God brigade. Even if he takes it a bit far sometimes :)

Unreal - The Power of Self. • Mar 04, 2015 10:43 PM

Eleven Straight (Seasons of) perfection Nuff said.

Didn't like the perfection piece much but still a nice sign.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:29 AM

This might be the best ft% team Self has had @ 71%. Tea shot 45 ft tonight. That is the strength it appears to be playing to of late.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:25 AM

Do they phone it in against OU? These guys are obviously exhausted. They are losing all the dead leg statistics: Rebounds, turnovers, jump shots.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:24 AM

0-15 3pt%. That is how we lost games to UNI, VCU, etc. Pulled it off in this one.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:23 AM

There is a possibility that Self saw in practices what the team's 3 pt shooting was really like, and we happened to catch aberrations on tv. It's hard to understand the data if you don't have access to all of it.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:17 AM

@VailHawk my comment is a generalization toward the poor officiating I've seen over the last 5-6 years. But yes, I thought it was poor and inconsistent on both sides of the ball. The play where the point guard for WvU reached out and slapped Mason's hand down and no call was made took it to an entire new level for me.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:15 AM

@brooksmd and understand their role; they are not part of the show even though that may be hard for them to believe or accept.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:12 AM

I'd like to see NCAA go to 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 refs per game. Whatever it takes so they can actually call a consistent game, the way it is supposed to be played, though.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:12 AM

@truehawk93 He definitely coaches bruise ball, which I hate. But if it helps Kansas prepare, then great.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:09 AM

Huggy is a Hardass. I bet he respected Kansas' toughness. He can also walk away knowing he really got the better of Kansas for most of the game, without his two ball handlers. I'm glad we have him in the big 12

I refused to quit watching this team. They've given me 25 years of great memories and lots of winning. If I have to go down with them in flames for a season or a game, then dammit I'm going down!! They've earned my watchful eye to the very end.

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 05:01 AM

Me too, but now my bladder is killing me, lol. Dammit, I'm not this old.

I'm trapped in a hotel in Columbus,Ohio, where Ohio St had to beg to give their seats away against purdue because it snowed ($6 tix). Somebody drink something for me. I'm going all Jack Nicholson in here. Red Rum. Red rum :) This game was a nice energy release!

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 04:56 AM

The fact that he's walking on it is good news. Strain is my guess. Probably not a major tear, but wouldn't they need an MRI to know for sure?

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 04:54 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 what is the scoop on Perry?

WVU vs Kansas Chat - It's payback time! • Mar 04, 2015 04:52 AM

@jaybate-1.0 was incredibly prophetic on this game. @jaybate-1.0 do you have a statistical modeling system??!! Even down to needing the free throws.

Where did the money go in 2008 and where has it gone when Nike teams win. How much is it costing and who is it costing when a non Nike team from lower populous makes it to the dance. Maybe it's time to start chasing rabbits down holes.
