Lol, I wish. I tried to import the Karate Kid video (that is the original sound track).
Try to be best
‘Cause you’re only a man
And a man’s gotta learn to take it
Try to believe
Though the going gets rough
That you gotta hang tough to make it
History repeats itself
Try and you’ll succeed
Never doubt that you’re the one
And you can have your dreams!
You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
@Kip_McSmithers Probably not. They like the Drama. They can talk about that instead of us being...
@Kip_McSmithers I agreed with this thought until I saw the replay. IT looked like the baylor player drove his elbow into Taylors face while rolling off.
Salud!
Now the only question is when will they present the trophy?
welp, that's it. season is dead. good bye.
Have they even mentioned this guarantees KU at minimum a share of #11 in a row?
Nobody but Kansas fans want to see #11 go to the Hawks
Nice...I've worked in Chicago, Madison/Milwaukee/Appleton, & Baton Rouge & enjoyed each place for different reasons. Thanks for dedicating your career to kids. It's hard to grasp how much influence one person can have on an individuals life. It just takes one positive influence to turn a life around. Nice job.
@Jesse-Newell Would it be bad journalism etiquette to just ask him the question, point blank?
"Bill, it seems like the team strength is shooting the three pointer, yet you continue to force it inside. Can you talk about why it doesn't seem that the team is playing to it's strength this year."
And don't settle for "because it's fool's gold."
Use your strong statistical analysis. But I bet you want to stay on Self's good side :)
@wissoxfan83 ahhh, I was thinking that you were from Chicago, or at least taught there, and are on the Bayou now. I forgot you were a Badger fan momentarily. Sox, Badgers, and Kansas! How the hell did that happen!
@JayHawkFanToo Might double check that...pull up a time zone map. That's what I was going off of. I have not had to travel to Madison since 2012 so I cannot recall the time zone I was in at that time.
Hell, I'm a fence jumper!! More than seeing somebody else take care of business, I'd like to see some progress from this team.
@JayhawkRock78 John Wooden was a statistical anomaly so I cooked my data--admittedly :)
No problem. I would market to the biggest audience if that were my business, too.
Well I intentionally stopped at 40 years, because it was a round number, and because it predated the rise of ESPN.
Since espn formation in 1979, 30/35 were from the east coast.
EDIT:
Prior to ESPN formation 15/40 National Champions Hailed from the Eastern Time Zone
32 of the last 40 National Champions are from the Eastern Time Zone.
Those that were not:
Kansas (2)
UCLA (2)
UNLV
Arkansas
Marquette
Arizona
I don't see it has happenstance.
Also, there is a possibility that this team does not even have the mental capacity or BB IQ to learn these offensive sets to get them open threes. They can't even run the chop without getting in each others way.
Using your standard, the 2008 team was a Davidson three from not being great. I just refuse to follow that logic.
@Crimsonorblue22 I manage complex multimillion dollar losses and settlements. Have done it my entire career. I witness what money does to behavior on a daily basis. Its sad, even the "goodguys" have their flaws revealed through money and greed.
@BeddieKU23 he's talking to an agent which I believe is the most likely situation.
This is exactly what I think is going on. Complete conjecture on my behalf, which isn't really fair to Cliff. So I'll slap my own hand here, but judging that this came out as the season wraps up my thoughts would be that if an individual were not happy in his current role, he might want to know how $green$ the grass might be in another pasture.
I agree with your sentiments, too about the uneven distribution of talents. In fact, I don't know if my opinion of the game is changing because I am aging, or if I am really just becoming quite bitter with the way it has been Incorporated, for lack of a better term.
My love of basketball goes back as far as I can recall being able to walk and run. It was the game I could play, even alone, regardless of financial limitations. I could get better at it alone, or with a team. I didn't have to have certain shoes, or a uniform. I could play because of my 'God-given' talents and my desire to out run and jump the person in front of me.
The game has changed. There is too much money on the line now. The game is officiated differently, now. Style points are more important than team work. One and Done is more important than collecting and developing talent over a period of time. Even at the risk of Jeopardizing seasons....ie...the Big Red Dog.
The NBA is a poor product in my opinion, but Kids are growing up wanting to be like them because of the Celebrity Factor. When I grew up wanting to be like Mike, or Larry, or Adonis Jordan it was purely because of the way they played the game. Jordan's competitiveness. Birds Fire. Hell, I don't really know why I loved Adonis, probably just his name and that he shot a high % from 3. I never cared about those guys being millionaires. But that is the change I'm seeing in today's game. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!
@jaybate-1.0 Actually, by way of accident I've discovered the coffee-flavored omelet. Goes great with Mozzarella and Egg Whites.
@Lulufulu but If drafts were held kids would have no choice in their colleges. That wouldn't be fair.
It seems like the ball is sticky as of late. And while Frank is a tough sob, his decisions are regressing to shoot first past second. He needs to grasp that he can lead as a facilitator and doesn't have to lead as a scorer.
@jaybate-1.0 "Hunter plays 10 seconds"=coffee in breakfast. Thanks for a good start.
@wissoxfan83 You may be right, but if the situation were reversed there would be entire thread and post dedicated to that non call on KU Buckets!
This morning I was listening to ESPN and one of the analysts said:
"Will Texas' big win over Kansas tonight get them into the tournament. I mean, they haven't played yet, but if they happen to win."
I think the entire ESPN cast is ready to see Kansas go down.
I'm out of town and cannot access the dvr. I got to see the play live, and then the few replays. I saw a hip check from Mason that I couldn't decide if I thought was a foul:; but Perry reached back with his right hand, cupped Thomas's shoulder and that is the foul I saw.
Also-- I am biased to liking Bilas because he is the only one I hear stand up to the butcher ball that basketball is becoming.
Many times i have thought about stopping watching the game of basketball altogether because of the contact they allow now. If I wanted to watch a contact sport I'd watch a contact sport.
cmon! Perry reached over and grabbed Taylors shoulder and completely changed his direction. It was a foul.
Yes, lots of other calls were blown all day, but if we are going to debate that specific play, it was clearly a foul.
Okay, so your comment was really just geared to his remarks today? I had to turn the volume up and down during the game. His comments were definitely not Pro KU today. But I respect his thoughts because I think he really does try to call it like he sees it. He said it was a BS foul call on Lucas prior to the 3 pt shot off the inbound play. He then said it should have been a foul called on Thomas drive at the end. I agreed with him. He was fouled. Jay has a very good eye for the game, imo.
@nuleafjhawk I'm surprised to read that comment. I've always thought Jay has been respectful of KU. He is respectful of the game imho, and he seems to be one of the few that has decency and respect for the way the game should be played and officiated. Why do you think he dislikes Kansas?
Gunman thank you for sharing this.
Stuck in Columbus on an unexpected business trip, I've been pacing in my room as I came to the realization that for the first time since 2001-2002 I won't make it to a home game in AFH. Should be at the Texas and WVU games, but now have to settle with a Purdue /Ohio State fix. All the while knowing there is no cure for the phog withdrawal shakes even with the excitement of seeing another college bb venue. Even worse, ISU started pulling away so I shut the game off, then on, then off, then back on. I knew I'f Baylor lost the streak was all but dead. Now I can rest easy knowing the worst that can happen this week is seeing Thad Matta whine like a crybaby.
Not that I wouldn't love to see it. But being the realist that I am, I see a team that doesn't have enough left in the tank to give the effort.
Instead of running them downhill, with the wind, all season, HCBS decided to run them up hill, against the wind, all season. I do feel Self should have made adjustments to fit his personnel this year, and it is going to cost him #11.
Self's achilles heel and bread and butter is that he plays to the percentages. This year it's just not working out his way. We can only hope that he evolves and becomes better because of this season.
If Baylor wins, we'll tie for #11. If not, unfortunately, the streak ends.
I am of the opinion this game will decide the conference race for us.
@Lulufulu venting is good . So is having good board rat virtual friends to reign us in.
Self has earned at least a couple down years, has he not? Doesn't he have the highest winning percentage ever at Kansas? He just came off a five year streak of 30 plus wins. Last I checked we passed UNC as the second winningest program under his tenure and Kansas has close to or more Tourney wins in the last 10 years than most schools. Buying into the concept that it is national championship or bust is the only thing that really Pisses me off on this forum.
Legislation needs passed to make this a crime. It's a matter of time before something very bad happens. Schools should be fined 50k for court storming
This team has expended all of the energy in the reservoir, and it has been noticeable to me the last 5 games. Frank Mason's improved shot form has regressed to last previous years where he lacks balance in his lift. He is all arms with his shots now because of his dead legs. The gunny is what has held this team together all year. He has been the leader and the glue. But the gunny is dunny. The team is running on vapors. The offensive sets have slowed down. The mental focus is gone (See ridiculous turnovers). Soon the belief will be gone.
At this point I hope the kids can use this adversity to build on their character for next year.
I got the sense that Bill thought he could grind this out in the hi/lo, get some reps in those sets and pull it off against a far inferior opponent.
He definitely bet on the fart and lost on this one.
Without negativity, can there be positivity?
I'm surprised to see such a low winning percentage at LSU as I regularly hear pundits talk about how he turned that program around and thus was hired to do the same at TCU. That's why they are pundits and I apparently A sheeple on that subject.
Wonderful pictures. Re-read the same and saw different ones. Reminds me of when I was first turned on to Kerouac. Thanks for writing.
Dang I thought Trent was a decent coach. Shows what I know.
Reminds me of when I used to play the part of Hacksaw Jim Duggin!
Eeeeeeehhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
@Crimsonorblue22 started her schooling of board rats at a young age...
