TGIF in Hell • Feb 19, 2015 11:33 PM

Well Maybe just a few recent ones. I could be mistaken.

TGIF in Hell • Feb 19, 2015 11:31 PM

@wissoxfan83 go into your profile on a cpu and you should see your older posts.

Love for our JNewell! • Feb 19, 2015 04:01 PM

@Jesse-Newell Nice work, Jesse. WE knew you were what held that other site together :)

@wrwlumpy Thanks for sharing. I'm very proud to see this.

@Crimsonorblue22 Hey, I like the way you coach :) Done. They are winning out by double digits. I see all opposition held to 35 efg%. In my crystal ball I am now visualizing the TreyBombs dropping with an accuracy rate of 42%.

I feel better!

Am I the only one concerned that Kansas is going to drop two more games, Iowa State isn't going to lose again?

Time to show some love • Feb 19, 2015 12:05 PM

What are all you bums doing up this early anyway ? :)

Time to show some love • Feb 19, 2015 11:08 AM

A lot of players could not have dunked that ball in those circumstances. If Perry was aware that he had 2.5 seconds left, he could have slipped a jump stop in and at least been fouled or slammed it home. As it were, he didn't have the center of gravity or balance & the necessary hops to make that play. That is a play Wiggins & McLemore can make, but I'm having a hard time thinking of any other KU players (in recent memory) that could have flushed that home on pure athleticism. Unfortunately, Perry is the type of player that is in his own head battling more than he should be on this. Hopefully, he let's it go. I go back to my favorite Nolan Ryan quote:

"Never let the success or failure of your last pitch affect the success of your next one."

It teaches both humility and recovery. Don't get too high or too low on yourself.

I considered Wiggy, too based on talent. But after thinking about it I believe he would just sit in the 3pt line and do nothing :)

I have a feeling our opinions will be strongly persuaded by the era in which we grew up.

My history only goes back 20-30 years. I was going to say Jo Jo because that's what history tells me, but I never did get to see him.

I'd go with Hinrich & Chalmers

@Blown Adonis, didn't you lose a tooth or teeth last year? I think you must be still working on your dreams!!!

Yes, fortunately they were saved !

The Boys of Summer • Feb 17, 2015 06:30 PM

In my asphalt hoops days, I ran around saying "Adonis Jordan for Three."

I never quite lived up to my own expectations, there!!

@wissoxfan83 now that is what I call win-win negotiating :)

Maybe my opinion is that I can't understand why mistakes made by 18 and 19 year old amateurs (throwing balls into stands) would irk you so much.

Baylor post-game comments • Feb 15, 2015 01:27 PM

I manage a team of 5. As their leader, their results are my results.

I have three very high performers. (Three point shots)

I have two very low performers. (inside/out game)

If I want my TEAM to be the best that it can be, wouldn't I spend more time working on the deficient low performers?

Some say, 20% of your customers will take 80% of your time.

This year, the inside/out game is taking 80% of the coaching. That is what Self does. He pushes the buttons that need pushed the most.

I understand that you should coach to your strengths, but there is also an importance to lifting your floor up, too.

I love Purple! • Feb 15, 2015 01:23 PM

As I watch the Big 12 season unfold, the mountaineers have seemed to slowly regress or wear down. I cannot help but feel like the Jayhawks are benefitting from playing both games against them very late in the season.

I did not read that to say exactly what you are insinuating, Crimson. I think @ralster comment on that was slightly mis-stated because of exactly what is going on here. Now the 'rumor mill' is churning that CF got kicked off because of Marijuana.

I believe Ralster said something like (paraphrasing) "very recently a player was kicked off for transgressions less." I was thinking that he was referring to Tharpe and his expose photographs, but you interpreted it to be CF because of the "very recently" remark.

Probably not the right thing to do to get rumors like this started.

Yesterday, I thought I was possibly just irritable because the announcers were getting under my skin with about every comment. It was so bad, I thought about starting a KUbuckets topic on it. Then I thought: what a silly thing to start a topic on when it was probably just me that the announcers were annoying the hell out of.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 09:51 PM

@wrwlumpy thought this headline was clever. Nice work.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 08:32 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I agree he should have known better. I just don't believe this will be easy for Self. I liked someone else's idea that JH should consider stepping down.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 08:30 PM

I enjoy all the different points of view. Thinking is healthy and my favorite thing to do.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 05:07 PM

@ralster No apology needed. I don't take any of this as a personal jab. We have different opinions. Reasonable minds may differ.

FYI, I live in Kansas, not Colorado. I don't use marijuana, I simply condone having an open mind.

And my father has suffered from PTSD (though he refuses to try cannabis) since 1972 upon his return from Vietnam. And I've watched as the VA prescribes pill after pill for him to no avail. Yes, his violence and sensitivity to loud noises and crowds has been lessened, but his true personality has been subdued as well. All of these medicines that are supposed to help him have turned him into a zombie. Sometimes I wish I had the old Jarhead back. Would you want my dad landing his CH53 Sea Stallion in a cross wind on Barbituates and Depressants? Your medical field prescribes them.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 03:40 PM

@HawksWin I appreciate your comments, and I respect what you are saying.

I agree that sometimes we have to find ourselves in another environment, and can become better people because of our shortcomings.

I am no William James, but I am trained in Research Methods and Psychology to some extent, and it is always my goal to evaluate facts without bias. I don't care what the truth is, I simply want to know it. The point of my post is to make sure we look at things from as many sides as we can, and to remember "let he without sin cast the first stone."

And as child, my family was so poor the only meals I ate were at school, and I did have to steal day old food from a trash can behind the grocery store during the summer time. Should I have starved or should I steal? It doesn't sound like you've really ever come face to face with true hunger if you cannot justify stealing for it. That was my only option. I was arrested at 9, 14, 16, 17, 18, and 19. Giving up on me would have been easy, but I'm glad they didn't. I was given second chances countless times, and 12 years later I'm sitting here with two college degrees, an expunged criminal record and I am a pillar of hope for the young children & adults that I interact with daily.

Things are rarely as they seem. I will not judge Snacks, but I do not envy the business decision that Self must make.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 01:25 PM

@RedRooster If Self got a DUI would you be saying the same thing?

Don't change my hypothetical by saying "Self wouldn't do that"

Self has made some pretty terrible decisions himself the last couple of years that were not made public, and he was forgiven by many.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 01:22 PM

Good question, crimson. I hope so. It will make the decision making process easier.

If this was Danny Manning while here, would there be the same sentiment to fire on thenl first offense or would we want to see a second chance ?

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 01:04 PM

I don't think whether we lose, or do not lose recruits should be part of the decision. It should come down to what Self & Co feel is the best "right' thing to do.

But since this is big business, it will come down to recruiting as well.

My three boys give me a lot of advice that I don't heed :)

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 12:33 PM

Also, Self is well known for giving second chances. As a father, I would want my kid to play for a coach that gives second chances. While some will be concerned if Self does not boot him, others might praise him for the compassion it must take to forgive and try to heal and help Jerrance.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY CALL HIM SNACKS? • Feb 12, 2015 12:30 PM

A considerable percentage of successful people use the substance.. Drs, Lawyers, Teachers, Scientists, Presidents. I've seen countless vets find their best treatment for Post traumatic stress disorder through cannabis. I've witnessed children with severe seizures find their only hope in the plant that was a gift of nature. I've watched tumors shrink when the only medicine taken was oil with high CBD content. Its illegality has more to do with Politics and less to do with its side effects.

Now that being said; when a person is entrusted with responsibility to uphold as Jerrance was and fails to do so, there needs to be consequences. I simply have a bigger issue with the fact that he was not trustworthy enough to man up and give Self notice. Mistakes are what make us stronger in life, but trust & loyalty are incredibly hard to earn back once lost.

Svi Elephant in the room?? • Feb 10, 2015 01:39 AM

Maybe I've missed comments as most of my browsing is done on a small mobile device, and somewhat limited. But I'm curious if anyone else might be of the opinion that Svi may have possibly told Self of plans to return to Europe after this season. That's the vibe I'm getting.

Frank's Number.... • Feb 09, 2015 04:47 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I didn't see those, Crimson. I wouldn't be surprised if his testing is still close to par without the pressure of a game situation.

Frank's Number.... • Feb 08, 2015 10:01 PM

He's mentally exhausted and it's showing through his play. You can fight through fatigue if your mind is still strong. He has held this team together for 20 games and likely the most pressure he is had on him for an extended period of time in his life. It's similar to baseball where high stress innings are more taxing and those are the ones that require close monitoring.

WTF? • Feb 08, 2015 01:06 AM

The team is exhausted. Mason has been rode into the ground.

What to expect tonight.... • Feb 02, 2015 04:00 PM

P.S. Whatever happened to Franks minutes going down with the return of Devonte? That is not holding true.

What to expect tonight.... • Feb 02, 2015 03:58 PM

75-65, good guys.

Speaking of Brannen--is there a site out there that tracks 'first shot field goal percentage?'

I don't know if its just that I remember his first shot more than others, but it seems to me like he has been money on his first 3 of every game except a just a couple of times. This dates back to last year.

The Big Red Dog needs more minutes! • Jan 30, 2015 01:56 PM

@jaybate-1.0 I did not think of that angle. Nice approach.

The Big Red Dog needs more minutes! • Jan 30, 2015 12:11 AM

Why could Cal only recruit a few draft choices for Memphis and UMass, but 10 OADs/TADs for one UK roster?

Could it be simply that the merger made the sum better than the parts?

I assume Self also was able to increase Toad's (See I combined tad/oad) with more success at Illinois than Tulsa, and Kansas than Illinois. I have not checked on that though.

All the southeast has is College football and Kentucky Basketball so with the massive media exposure, and the ego maniacal conditioning many of these kids receive by 18, it's only natural to go to where they will continue to get that conditioned response.

A Horn Is A Horn Is A Horn... • Jan 28, 2015 01:10 AM

@drgnslayr The passing displayed in that game was phenomenal.--meaning, that for one time, the first time all year that each and every kid at all time on the court did not care who was going to shoot. They just knew to keep the ball moving until it found the right guy and all fit together so naturally. Was very nice to watch. Thanks for the reply, I always enjoy the insight from a guy with a little more than what I provide...

A Horn Is A Horn Is A Horn... • Jan 26, 2015 04:50 PM

Why the hell did Barnes play a zone. M2m would have caused this team more trouble wouldn't it ?

WSU-show time • Jan 26, 2015 04:47 PM

Let's wager on the arresting officers favorite school :)

@jaybate-1.0 And then there are those such as Perry who over think, and those such as B.G. who don't think. I prefer to be a thinker myself, but all too often get caught up in over analyzing and find it difficult to cease and modify the behavior. Caused me a lot of trouble on the basketball court and negated my speed and athleticism.

@jaybate-1.0 @Lulufulu ...looking forward to that read. But Roy doesn't have any part of the tree, does he,Lulu?

@Dylans I second that...I've felt more of a disconnect the last couple of years. I am attributing it to 1)OAD's because I don't 'buy into them' like I did previous 4 year guys. 2). Can't watch the games because Sheahon sucks. 3) Professional life growing so less time to expend energy on College Hoops.

In 25 hours we play the OKLAHOMA SOONERS • Jan 19, 2015 03:07 PM

I find it peculiar when I see NFL offensive players playing without knee & thigh pads but College Basketball players needing them. Says a lot about the game and in my opinion the rigors of basketball aren't as evident on television as they are in reality.

Prediction: Self about to Switch Ellis On • Jan 16, 2015 05:20 AM

Love it. Reminds me of Hunter. Can I call it gonzo!

So much for Devonte's return spelling rest for Mason. Cannot believe a word Self says!! His tendencies override him.

I thought last nights game was going to be a good indicator of how the rest of conference will play out. They won by 10, but the PHOG brings 10 so I call last nights game a wash. I'm predicting 5 losses for this group in conference play, but that will still be enough to win or tie it.

OSU • Jan 13, 2015 12:10 PM

@ cragar I was thinking the same thing. I'd like to see how Traylor & Alexander play together for an extended period of time. If Perry cannot score down low, what is he bringing to the table that Brannen Greene isn't.

I do feel bad for Perry because he believes he should be playing the 3 but he's forced out of position. His shuffles are obviously not good enough to guard any 3 though. He's about like Greene in that regard except at least Perry doesn't get out over his skis when he guards like Greene does. I'm hoping Hudy can improve Greene's defensive slides the way Tyrel Reed did over time.
