@Kubie Can recall the name, but there is a very large sports bar/restaurant just off of the Circle. On the southwest side - either on 19th or New Hampshire.
So, shifting gears to Villanova. Really solid team. Not flashy or uber-talented. Not very big either. But just so fundamentally sound, esp. on defense...
Hogs still 1-1. So still have to make a FT...
That easily could have been a 4 pt play...
Still is going to come down to FTs...
If Hogs make their FTs...
Not shooting fouls but they reset the shot clock...
Actually, with this little time left, let Timme take his 2 pt shots and just don't foul him...
Hogs should double Timme every time and see if anyone else can beat them...
Timme and Holmgren have been the entire Zags offense and defense so far...
Wish CB would learn from that play - take it at the defender - initiate the contact instead of trying to lean away from it....
On the other hand, maybe the 4th on Holmgren this early will be....
Zags in the bonus with almost 10 minutes left - could end up being the difference in the game...
Folks are dumping all over Timme, but would love to have him as a Jayhawk. Heckuva college ballplayer...
Game definitely at Hogs tempo. Will see if that can sustain in the second half...
Gonzaga has a lot of weapons - a lot of ways to score. Pressure and physicality can disrupt them, but that likely leads to a foul differential, which is what's happening here...

So yes, teams do seem to get hot from 3 against Kansas more than other teams.
It’s also interesting to me that the programs at the top of this list are traditionally very successful programs. Obviously playing more tournament games provides more opportunity for this type of thing to happen but wonder if there’s something to less successful teams applying the chuck threes and pray strategy.
Interesting. The obvious questions is whether those teams are just getting "hot" against us - we're just that unlucky - or that our defensive scheme is the issue. That we don't put as much emphasis on defending the arc or ball pressure or denial for the opponents best shooters? Strikes me that is has to be a least some of the latter - too long a timeframe and too many instances to just be bad luck...

Defense is our Achilles... That is never proven more than the Bluejay game. We could have shot better from the field but otherwise, we can't expect to do better. We dominated boards, we shot the lights out from the line, we had almost no TOs... we dominated possessions!
Teams like the Zags feast on teams like ours. Turning the game into a game where we try just to outscore our poor defense will not get it done versus the Zags.
Yes, I sound negative... but listen to Self. We need that gear we haven't hit yet. And though Remy brings us a big punch... the real secret weapon we have is that gear we need to reach. I don't think the Zags have the personnel to stop us from hitting that gear... it is all within our guys to find it. It means we play totally free from overthinking and we just go out there and run hard on both sides of the ball.
If this happens... we can win a National Championship, no problemo. And we will all be blessed with watching some of the all-time best Hawk ball ever to be played... and it comes from a group of guys not at the personal level of other teams we've had.
No matter what, I'm proud of these guys for achieving what they have... and I'm hopeful having a week to prepare and a healthy Remy, we find that gear Self is talking about. Wow!
RCJH!
You are spot on. We haven't played badly, but we haven't played particularly well. We barely got passed a Creighton team that was down to 5-1/2 guys and without arguable their two best players throughout the season. We might be able to win the next two games the same way - winning ugly - but not 4 games as the quality of competition ratchets up. Because we can't consistently get stops on possessions, we are going to have to start making shots. I don't know if that's what HCBS means by another gear. We simply haven't shot the ball well, esp. Ochai. If we do start making shots - even just 8-20 from 3 - we are capable of beating anyone and running the table...

TCU AZ game... really rooting for TCU in this one.
AZ missing their point guard - think TCU has a chance to pull the upset...
UT making a run. 13 more shot attempts. But Purdue has 17! FTAs in the 1st half...

Absolutely have to take advantage of this. We never get the easy path.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Need to win the next one first...

Texas 5-22 from the field so far. Purdue 8-12...
Make that 5-24 and 9-13...
Texas 5-22 from the field so far. Purdue 8-12...
TTU was 3-7 from the stripe in the first half - 10-10 in the second...
Tech going to win with making just 1 of last 11 shots - and that a breakaway at the end...
Shannon has been a no show in this game...
@Crimsonorblue22 said in Non-KU Games:
@DCHawker but isn't that their strength? Switching 5?
Usually, but they are exposing Williams on the perimeter...
@BShark said in Non-KU Games:
Sometimes you just miss good shots.
That may be, but ND is also playing really smart basketball - taking great advantages of TTU's switching on defense...
ND definitely not known for defense, but TTU making just 37% of shots and just 3-7 from FT line. And, just 1 RB advantage against smaller team...
ND slicing up TTU's D right now - great spacing - really spreading the floor - have a bunch of guys that can hit from 3

Iowa State winning makes the Big 12 - -8 - - -1 in the Tourney so far
Need at least one of TTU, TX or TCU to win. 3 in Sweet 16 would be solid. 4 even better...
Shockingly, Kalscheur the entire offense for ISU. Has almost half their points. 9-17. Rest of team is 8-30.
Pretty remarkable that ISU has the lead with their 2 best players 4-17 from the field...
19 fouls on ISU to 11 on UW. But, the Badgers historically don't foul that much...
TTU better damn well win this game. Would really suck for the ACC to get 3-4 teams in the Sweet 16 - and the B12 with maybe just 1...
ISU lighting it up as usual - 2 points in 5 minutes+. But, usual good D, so just down 3...
Hard to judge Providence on this game. Historically bad shooting night for Richmond. 1-22 from 3 - not a typo. And, just 8-21 from the stripe.
@Crimsonorblue22 said in KU vs Creighton Barrels:
@DCHawker they have a big? Been watching post game
Yes - about the same size as Dave. Plus a couple of good sized forwards...
@Gorilla72 said in KU vs Creighton Barrels:
Geez! Providence is shooting one 3 per minute, average. Looks like the Hawks will have defend 3’s like they did in the 2nd half.
Providence 7-12 from 3 right now. We're definitely going to have to do a much better job of guarding the arc...
Creighton 12-28 from 3, but just 9-31 from 2…
We shot like crap, but were lights out at the stripe. Very un-KU…
We need to get a stop without fouling. And we’re still not in the double bonus
Can’t we run a play????
Geez Dave - just go straight up and dunk the damn thing!
Stupid foul - esp when they’d shoot FTs so well
Blowing this with bad shot selection. Got the lead and should have gone down hill every time
A constant issue with CB - shies away from the contact
Ochai you have to take that to the basket - not settle for a jump shot
