Again, niggling a bit, but Dot could have dished back on both of those breakaways and had easy slams....
Speaking of hair - and splitting it - Braun is much more aggressive. But, he still hesitated on two open 3s - they just weren't WIDE open. I hope continues to develop confidence to let those fly in the flow...
The court is so much more open when we go 4-1...

@DCHawker today they said he was their #1 scorer til conference and now, #2.
That is true - was their leading scoring at 13 ppg and just behind in second now - and averaging 30 mpg. But something is clearly amiss given that he is no longer starting and in his last 5 games his scoring totals are 10, 5, 5, 4 and 10.
BShark said:
@DCHawker who was Bill going to play, Teahan? I guess Charlie Moore or KJ Lawson. All options sucked last year after Doke got hurt and Vick was told to pound sand.
Fair enough - although he was keeping him as a starter before the Vick implosion. Bigger issue is what does it say about our depth and recruiting when the almighty Houston Cougars can relegate him to the bench and be better off as a result...
BShark said:
@Crimsonorblue22 Wonder if his camp is still blaming Bill for his performance when he was given every opportunity here, never benched.
Telling that HCBS wouldn't bench him, but Kelvin Sampson has. Grimes averaging 6-7 points over his last 5 games. Don't wish ill of the kid. Just ridiculous that he isn't close to one of the best players for Houston in the AAC, yet somehow HCBS was convinced that he deserved to play 30 minutes a game for the Jayhawks - all visual and statistical evidence to the contrary...

Defense was solid again today, just wish we could hit a wide open 3, think dot and Ochai missed 3 of those a piece.
2-10 from 3. Ochai 0-3; Dot 1-4; Marcus 0-2; Moss 1-1.
40 points in the second half - and give up fewer than 30...
Just thankful their execution is just as bad as ours...
We've struggled all year executing in the last 2-3 minutes of games...
Why give the ball to Dave 30 ft out with under 10 on the clock???
Finally !!!
BShark said:
@Woodrow Would hope Bill would pull him for Dave after the first.
Silvio actually the best FT shooter of the 3, by far...
Albeit with better defense, Ochai risks turning into Grimes. 4 pts, 1-6 from the field, 0-3 from 3, 2 rebounds and zero assists...
Overruled - he is in the circle???
If we can't win this one, I don't think there is much hope of getting the conference crown back. Tough to see wins at WVU and TTU. Could lose one between OSU, TCU and KSU.
Yeah, I jinxed it...
We still can't make an outside shot - Moss' 6-8 footer only one of the half outside the paint - but we avoided TOs this half (hope I don't jinx) and we're doing a much better job of defending the 3 pt line...

Doke getting a nice rest here
Dave playing pretty well in this stretch too. I have my answer from earlier in regards to Bill taking this game seriously. No Tristan or Silvio in sight.
Also no Braun...

When was the last time Dotson made a jump
Shot??
And they aren't close to going in...
Doke has made 7 of 9 shots. The rest of the team is 9 for 27....
BeddieKU23 said:
Fuck you ref
Could you repeat that...
Other than the layup off the turnover, Doke is our entire offense. 3 dunks and short hook/jumper.
I don't know what Self is doing with this offense. Unless we shoot and make a few 3s, we are going to struggle to score points. We need to run set plays to get Moss and Braun (maybe Ochai) some open looks from the corner and wing.
kjayhawks said:
That was ugly, we missed a ton of chances with Doke at the line. We just need to work the ball. Defense has been decent.
Defense maybe gets to the decent level. UT has only hit 70 once against a real opponent (OSU). Couldn't get to 50 against Baylor or Providence...
Well, we scored 2 more points in the half than we did against Baylor...
Have made one basket in 10 minutes...
This is just bad basketball....
We run plays out of timeouts - why can't we regularly run set plays???
They've outscored us 13-1 since the 11:40 mark...

My god we suck
Lucky that Texas has cooled off a bit...

They haven't scored lately
More than 6 minutes without a point...
@BShark Not saying a whole lot right now...
We haven't scored in 4 minutes - 5 TOs and 2 missed shots since we hit 17....
I think HCBS is looking to get T'd up...
HCBS not very happy right now.... ;(
I thought UT had one of the slower tempos in the country and struggles to score???
Tried one there...
Ochai very passive again. 4 starters have taken at least 2 shots each - none for Ochai. Self should run a couple of plays for him to get him going...
How do they leave someone that wide open???
Baylor down 9 at half to OSU. 'Pokes put up 36 in the first stanza - more than we did in either half against the Bears.
And UNC down 20! to Pitt at half. Not sure they will make the NIT.

Isnβt +/- everything?
We know what we see. 4/1.
Actually, it's even more stark with individual +-. McCormack is dead last among the rotation players, and it's not even close. He is +48 on the year. In contrast, Moss is +200 (with ~70 more minutes). Interestingly, Moss' +- is ahead of Ochai - and with 200 fewer minutes.
Yes, DE is down some with Moss in the line-up compared to another big, but the OE is significantly higher, more than compensating...
No question that Moss can be streaky - most shooters are - but he HAS to play starter minutes. He is the only player that opposing defenses really have to respect from deep. When he is in - even if he just makes a couple of 3s - it stretches the defense and opens up things in the middle for Doke or for drives to the bucket by Dot or Marcus. Worth noting that he has played 20+ minutes in just 8 games. In those games, he is 20-46 from 3 - 43%! And the takes and makes are trending upward.
On the season, Ochai leads the team with 30 made 3s. Moss is second with 28 - in 200 fewer minutes - effectively 7+ fewer games. For our offense to be reasonably effective we need to be taking ~20 3s a game and hitting 7-8 of them. On most nights, Moss would account for about half of that himself -- which means you just need Ochai and Dot to hit one or two each with the bonus of an occasional one from Marcus, Braun or Enaruna....

No more 3s, move the ball and get it inside.
Except that one...
@Hawk8086 Difference from earlier is that we got decent looks, albeit settling a bit with too quick outside shots...
They're shooting ~30% from the field and 3 and we have a 40-28 RB advantage - seems like we should be leading by a lot more than 9...
Dave has really stone hands...
