@Big-Clyde52 That wouldn't be the same Shockers who have already lost to La Tech, Davidson and Alabama, would it???
@jayhawkcsg Where to start..... Others will have their own views, but while offense was putrid at least in the first half, I think the biggest problem was defense - or lack thereof. Stanford couldn't break 50 against Wisconsin or Florida, but lights us up at home for 75 in regulation. Dedric kept us in shouting distance for a good portion of the game, then Vick bailed us out. Missed his first 3 3 pointers, then was 7-8 after that. Dotson was really solid, Doke okay, Grimes was a no show.
Dedric 5-9 - rest of team 5-17....
Stanford has one of the highest turnover rates in the country, but we're even in TOs in this game - not applying any real pressure...
@stoptheflop Really unfathomable that one can play basketball their whole life at fairly high level and be that bad shooting the rock...
This is the first game Vick....
@stoptheflop I'm traveling across the country for the game on Tuesday v. Wofford - hope we look better than this.....
@BeddieKU23 Right now we're at a pace for a game in the 40s....
This is some ugliness....
Refs have missed at least 3 Stanford travels...
@tundrahok You think..... ;)
A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week for the B12 - mostly anyway. Texas losing at home to Radford. K State getting whipped by Marquette (albeit on the road). OSU loses to Minnesota. No quality wins. At least TTU came back to avoid the upset to Memphis. Trust the Hawks will hold serve, but beating Stanford would not really qualify at a QW. Lost week for the B12.....
Well, one result of the B10-ACC challenge is that the ACC is down to one undefeated team - UVA - and the B10 two - Iowa and Michigan (pending the outcome of the UNC game). Interesting results - the erstwhile top B10 teams have lost - but they have several second tier wins. Both conferences benefit as a whole from a strength of schedule standpoint - same will hold true to a lesser extent when the B12-SEC challenge takes place.
I thought it might be interesting to see how the major conferences stack up through Feast Week (games through Sunday night). It's really a 3 horse race at this point between the ACC, B10 and B12. A case can be made for each, but I would suggest it is, somewhat surprisingly, neck and neck between the B10 and B12, with perhaps a slight edge to the good guys based on the having the best wins. All have a few bad losses and several solid to very good wins.
ACC record is 71-14. 4 undefeated teams - UVA, VT, NC State and Pitt - the latter two haven't played anyone. Best wins - UK, Auburn, Wisconsin, UCLA, LSU, Creighton, Stanford? and Georgia?.
B10 record is 67-13. 5 undefeated teams - one of which, MD, hasn't played anyone. A bunch of solid and good wins - Villanova, Washington, Texas, OU, UConn, Utah, TxA&M, UCLA, Marquette, Cinn, Creighton, Xavier, SHall, Oregon, Stanford?. Basically the B10 owns the P12 - will see how they fare against the ACC (split last night, which aren't included).
B12 record is 51-10. Three undefeated teams - KU, KSU and TTU. Best wins - UNC, Mich St, Tenn, Fla, Marquette, LSU, Ark, Dayton, Memphis, USC, Nebraska and Mizzou. Not as many quality wins overall as the B10 perhaps, but 3 top 10 type wins by the B12 are tough to match....
@KirkIsMyHinrich And, need to work on dealing with pressure - very sloppy the last few minutes, esp. with so many perimeter players...
Grimes has been mostly invisible this game - biggest number on stat sheet is fouls...
@KirkIsMyHinrich Happy that they erased a big deficit - not happy how they've defended the 3. And, won't feel secure until we have a double digit lead with less than 4 minutes or so...
@StLJhawk They weren't going to keep up the 1st half pace. Makes me nervous that they won't continue to bagel in the 2nd half - yep there it goes...
Got away with one there - clear on the replay that Doke walked...
@JayHawkFanToo May be a bit too early to really compare conferences. ACC has 5 losses total among 15 teams - only 2 of those probably rate as "bad" losses. B12 has 3 losses among its 10 teams, and all are bad losses. Very few quality wins by either conference. B12 has quality wins over MSU and... maybe Arkansas? ACC has wins over Kentucky and Florida and... maybe Stanford? Several big non-conference match-ups over the holidays that may provide a better gauge of relative strength. The problem for the B12, which has too often been the case, is not enough of our schools schedule many games against the Power 5 schools. KU has a tough schedule - really no cupcakes - and, probably to Kruger's regret, OU has a killer schedule. Some of the B12's ostensibly better teams don't play anyone of note until conference games start.
@Bwag Yeah, but 16 of our 25 - we're supposed to be deep and balanced. Need someone else to show up at some point - no one else has in the first half.
@BShark Very one dimensional offense right now...
@BShark Seems a simple concept. Vermont not going to beat us or come close with 2s....
Given that they made better than 50% from 3, we only made ~60% from the FT line, and Dedric couldn't find the bottom of the basket, it was a good win...
Bad coaching - don't care how much better his stroke is, Doke has no business being in at the end of tight games where we have the lead...
Don't really care - he will be fouled and I like him at the line a whole hell of a lot more...
Run that same play but with Dedric in the post, dammit...
Need to get Doke out now...
Get 2 more stops and we're done...
A little run and put this away....
Get Vick out of there...
Shots not dropping for DLaw, but he is contributing big time on the boards, FTs and assists. Most guys have played okay with exception of Vick - awful game from him...
Several sloppy TOs the past several minutes...
Not much of a blow for Dedric...
Amazing that's only the 3rd on Ward...
All they are doing is shooting 3s - just stay on the friggin' line and deny those - make them drive and make 2s...
Let's get a few stops...
Gotta guard the 3 ball - only way they can come back against us...
Effing transition defense....
All 10 guys that have played have scored...
Vick is completely discombobulated....
Big Dave!
Even with that TO, only 5 so far - a wee bit better than the exhibition games...
Vick has been invisible...
Pretty impressive we're scoring at this rate with only 4 pts from Dedric...
Charlie got bailed out on that one...
We need to have Dedric in the game for 36+ minutes every game!!!
@DanR Even with his added bulk, he seems to take up zero space in the paint...
@BeddieKU23 No lift, but nose for the ball - moves to rebounds - in stark contrast to Doke...
@DanR @KirkIsMyHinrich Sure, 77% is better than 45%, but reliance on shooting % can be a bit misleading in determining whether he had a good/efficient game. If Doke is 4-5 from the field, he betters his shooting %. But, that reflects shot attempts. If he turns it over 5 times, goes 3-8 from the FT line (with 2 missed front-ends), passes weakly and late in the shot clock out of double teams (leading to wasted possessions), and the other teams big can score from the perimeter on him - is that net net a productive performance??? What is also important is his usage rate and how efficient the Hawks are scoring when he has touches.
