It is still a mystery to me how we are winning these games.........

@KUSTEVE Owens was a mediocre coach (as was Harp). Owens had a few all time great KU players, but he also had four losing seasons. Interestingly, two of them (including an 8-18!) were book-ended by his two Final Four teams (advanced to the Elite Eight one other time, but that's about it in terms of NCAA tourney success in 19 years).
Why is KU universally considered a "blue blood"? It isn't NCAA titles - six schools have more titles than KU, some of which, as noted by others, don't really warrant the approbation. Rather it is the depth, breadth and richness of KU's basketball history...
It is the inventor of the game; it is Phog Allen; it is Allen Field House; it is the connections to Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp, Roy Smith and others; it is Wilt Chamberlain, Clyde Lovellette, Danny Manning and many others; it is the sustained success over many decades; it is the second most wins of all time; it is the most conference titles of any school; indeed, a top 5 ranking (most top 3) in almost all all-time team categories; and, it is Rock Chalk Jayhawk....

@KirkIsMyHinrich Exceeding expectations is relative. OU and TTU have a couple of decent wins each, but other than KU's wins over MSU and Tennesses and UT's over UNC, the B12 is lacking top 20 types of victories. B10 and ACC are way ahead in quality wins at this point...
@Woodrow Bad loss for KSU and the B12. Tulsa lost to SIU, Nevada and Utah. Their only decent wins are against Okie State and now KSU. B12 has taken it on the chin since Thanksgiving. Virtually no quality wins since and a few bad losses.
@BeddieKU23 And, with regard to Vilanova, perhaps the coaching staff can watch the Michigan - Villanova game with the boys to see how to effectively guard the perimeter. Nova only got off 15 3pt shots and made just 3....
@BeddieKU23 Yes, coaching can change it. Michigan under Beilein has always been efficient offensively, but never used to be much of a defensive team - that is, until he brought on a new assistant implemented new scheme and now they are one of the best defensive teams in the country,
@Woodrow That does seem to be at least part of the problem. I wonder if we run any plays for him??? His game is not suited to running a weave just to feed the post every time down the court. The coaching staff needs to help create opportunities for him to see shots go down and build confidence.
